Equally horrible. The type of programming is different, thus it is hard to quanitify exactly which is better or worse.

Well from what I see japanese trash TV can be summed up as gameshows, While in the US it's sitcoms and reality based shows.

I would consider the sitcoms on American TV to be one of its highlights. The real trash of Japanese TV is the sheer number of variety shows.

I think Japanese television is wayyyyyy better than American television, but hey that's just me. The shows are much more interesting and it's a totally different style from American TV. The gameshows are sooooo funny, I think I scared my homestay in Japan lol. But, there is nothing wrong with American TV, its still good stuff.

Yeah, if I had Japanese TV here I'd totally dump the American TV in a second lol. But, thats not possible. Oh well, this summer I get to go to Japan, so wait for me TV in Japan.

I love j-dramas and I like some of the variety shows, but if I couldn't download shows from back home I'd go crazy. Ironically, the longer I'm here, the less tolerance I have for it. My tv is off far more than it's on. That's not to say that there aren't things worth watching (and in j-tv's defense I only have basic cable), but I'd trade Japanese tv for American any day of the week...provided I could still download th dramas. ;p

What GOODSTUFF Does television provide in the states?
Rehash of classic shows. (How manytimes have they give "Married with Children" or "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" or "Family Matters". Stupid Reality shows, and crime drama's. I admitt during the Ninety's There exsisted a Good amount of sitcoms (News Radio,Seinfeild,Fraiser, Wayans Bros, The simpsonsEtc) But now a day's it seems any no acting talentless celeberty can have their own show. (Anna nicloe smith, Reba, Paris hilton , you name it) or some stupid reality show. Please tell me what's Good about Television in the states "Flavor of Love"?

well technically the reality show was invented in europe america just picked up the lit cigarrette. when i went to england a few years back i saw wife swap before it made its way here in the most watered down way possible. it was acctually pretty funny.
i think every county has its little odd points. like in england and im guessing any non america country (stupid conservative county) will show full frontal nudity (aside from japan thats required by law to pixilate the genitalia) on television.

I like American TV. Of course 99% of what's on doesn't appeal to me, but even if it did, it's not like I could realistically watch it all anyways.
MXC and Jerry Springer are all I need.

From what I've heard from people living in Japan Japanese TV is horrible.

To name a few: The Daily Show, Mythbusters, The Amazing Race, Scrubs, Arrested Developement (ok, so it got cancelled...but not because it was bad), My Name is Earl, Numb3rs, The West Wing (though it JUST ended), Lost, Grey's Anatomy, Veronica Mars, The Office, etc.etc. Admittedly I don't watch each show with regularity (and goodness knows I missed quite a few) and there are PLENTY of shows that should be yanked from the airwaves...but I for one think all of these shows deserve to be called "good stuff".

I thought J-TV was great the first year I was here, but now I`m getting worn down by it. Even though I wasn`t a huge fan of reality TV, at least you saw different people on the shows. Most variety, drama, etc. have the same "tarento" (and 90% actually have "talent"). I haven`t been to interested in anime except for NANA and Ouran High School Host (from time to time). I`m also started to be turned off from drama series too (again, same tarento, same stories, and the 9-12 episode limit kills the potential of some shows). There are a few shows that I watch weekly (Trivia no Izumi, Music Fighter, Ryuha-R, Ainori, NepLeague and some other shows), but other than that I`m bored with J-TV. LOL but I like TV noise though so my TV is always on.

I hear that the gameshows over there are terrible. They have celebs compete on the gameshows. Why would celebrities need to win anything? They get paid some serious coin already, do they really need more?

Execpt for Anime and Weather News, (and maybe house) TV in Japan and the US sucks. Even though I'd be lying if I said I hadn't watched a few sitcoms or dramas before. (That goes for JP and US.)

Ouran HS Host is really pretty cool. I think it's pretty darn hilarious.

Depends on the genre of programms.
Variety/Comedy/Talk show - Japan hands down, although I love American standup comics also. Also that American TV has too many reruns of sitcoms is a big minus on its own. (some of sitcoms themselves are fine; the problem is with the reruns)
Quize -Japan
Sports - obviously U.S., although Japan has K-1 and PRIDE that I love to watch most, and Japanese baseball and sumo are good enough for the Japanese themselves.
Dramas - Maybe U.S., but I don't care much about dramas anyway. Some period/samurai dramas are ok.
News/documentary programs - U.S. Japanese news programs all suck badly, except asamana and sunday project.
Amen to that, sista-girl
God bless ya, sista!
Plannin' on gettin' your Jerry beads, too?

British television is the worst. On holidays, ITV broadcast the most unpopular films. The BBC are only good for sitcoms and sketch shows such as Little Britain (<3)
and that's pretty much it.
There's jack on television over here today and it's the beginning of the summer holidays.
We appear to have lost The Art of Entertainment long ago.
