I just got back from Barnes and Noble and was reading PC Magazine and read a very interesting article about the top 10 under the radar technologies today(in their opinion anyway). A couple i thought were very interesting
1) Chaos Computing
Being created by William Ditto. Basically is a new approach to how pcs work. To put it simply he is making a chip that will function as RAM,CPU,GPU,etc all in one package. The way this can happen is the chip acts like a stem cell and can change to adapt to the needs of the user. Running an app that needs more ram? the logical gates inside the chip would change on the fly thus reconfiguring the chip. Playing a game the chip will rearange into a GPU type of chip.
2) Organics(my name for it)
There is a new way to develop photograpy, by using E coli bacteria. It takes a very long time to develop but is very Hi res when done, 100 megapixels per square inch. The pictures are not very pretty but they are working on mixing in of types of bacteria to enhance that aspect. Theorectically they are talking about microorganisms that can produce electricity, or cells that can find and attach to a brain tumor and release a drug.
3) Brain Creation
A couple dudes( dont remeber names or titles well) are using the IBM Blue Gene supercomputer to try to create a complete human brain, which they would then use to explain the use of logic and such. It would also be used to make robots reacts to things like humans and you can imagine what else. Also on a side note, apparently some people(scientists) are successfully connecting IC and transistor chips to nuerons in such a way that the chip can detect the nueron pulses and act accordingly, they plan to use it to make up for nuerological deficiencies in peoples brains.
Other things were strectchable transisters, clear transisters(screens like the ones in minoritie report would be a reality if combined with this>>), multitouch screens(can detect mulitple touches compared to the one-touch screens today), and afew others
I can type anymore, got to go. I plan to go read it again in a couple days if you have questions..
What do you all think?
