View Full Version : Are there designs for scrapped angels which didn't appear in the series?

I was reading the translation of a file about Eva's original storyline, and it mentions angels(well... Apostolos, actually) like Raziel, "shatieru" and "tureru". Are there any known files with the designs of those scrapped guys?

There are two extra angels that appeared in the pencil-and-paper Evangelion RPG; there's the one that was part of a design an angel competition; there's one from IIRC the Second Impressions game, gestating inside Mayumi, the new pilot girl who's also possible romatic interest for Shinji. Possibly there is at least a fifth.
I don't have images to hand, but I should imagine Google might well help.

Those are "Baraqijal" and "Iblis", according to some images. They aren't any of the known scrapped angels.

Do you know the name of that one? I have the image.

Hm... I had heard about that game, but I know nothing about the angels in that one.
Edit: And couldn't find screens of those guys doing a quick google search, however, I did find something that looks like production artwork of several scrapped angels and an Eva-01...

Does anyone know where I could find more pictures in that style?

Hey, thanks! That site also had the old designs of several characters.

I was reading the translation of a file about Eva's original storyline
It comes from the "Proposal" (Kikakusho), a 33-page long scenario that was apparently shipped around to attract sponsors, with all of the pages printed really tiny-like in Newtype 100%. I'm not clear on the basic details; haven't translated the intro blurb.
and it mentions angels(well... Apostolos, actually)
One of the pages has shito with, in parentheses, katakana "APOSUTORO". This is, technically, just "Apostolo", not "Apostolos"; this nifty page (http://www.tekiro.main.jp/?cid=22463) has the former as Italian, and the latter as Greek.
Random: On the same page, it says that the Japanese word for "Genesis" (like, Genesis Genesis) is souseiki, which is "start/originate" + "century". Sound familiar? Shinseiki is "new" + "century". Well, I guess "Neon Genesis" makes a bit more sense now...
like Raziel, "shatieru" and "tureru".
I wish I knew where the latter two were mentioned...
The Proposal contains prelimary designs of Ramiel (who is quite recognizable) and Sahaquiel (who is basically two long ribbons resembling Zeruel's arms and a floating core).
Ikuto Yamashita designed an Angel for the first Sega Saturn game. The white, winged Angel depicted fighting EVA-01 is the Diemay Angel (do a forum search for "Diemay").

That Arael is virtually identical to the finished one from what I can see, but the Sachiel is quite different... pretty cool, in a way. The design looks more obviously amphibious than the final. I wonder if the head down in the corner is what would have happened after the N2-ing, instead of the face swap thing our final Sachi does? (Text is too small for me to identify...)

Asari's design has a lot more charisma and sex appeal. ;) This one just gives me that... "Monster of the Week" feeling.
Bigger version (http://www.evacommentary.org/images_production/der-mond_068.jpg). It says, "Kappa-type?" (As in the Japanese river critters.) It's suggesting an alternate head.

Is that an early designs of Sho?

33 pages?! The translation only has 3 pages... It must be missing too much info...

Ok, so, that's the name of that yellow sphere angel? Thanks.

Yes.

They only did the plot synopses (and rather poorly, at that), which is actually 4 pages.

Yellow sphere angel...?

Watched Hercules lately or is it unrelated to James Woods' awesomeness?

It's in "Hercules"? (You mean the Disney one?) I'm thinking of "ReDeath".
Hyuga: OH MY GOD! They just killed the entire cast of "Tenchi Muyou"!
Maya: You bastards!
Aoba: What are we going to do? I'm scared!
Misato: We should launch the Evas immediately.
Ritsuko: We can't. None of the pilots are here.
Misato: What options are we left with?
(Ritsuko staring)
(Aoba and Hyuga staring)
(Misato staring)
Gendo: Why is everybody looking at me?
YES! PI-KA-CHU!!
Our only hope is to take it down... with the power of song.
Ed (Fuyutsuki): YOU ARE CORRECT SIR.
Gendo: Shut up, Ed.
Ed: HA-YOOOOOOO!
You know, I need to ask the Sokodei boys about Ed's second line. <_<

You know, I need to ask the Sokodei boys about Ed's second line. <_<Um, that's Ed as in Ed McMahon, Johnny Carson's sidekick on the 'Tonight Show'. His two catch phrases were "YOU ARE CORRECT, SIR!" and "HA-YOOOOO!!"

Whoa, so I actually got the second one right? I was steeped in debilitating self-doubt there.

That is the aforementioned Diemay Angel. (Which is supposed to be in the Geektionary. Crap.)

Yes, the Disney Hercules. When Hades has unleashed the Titans and brings the Rock, Ice, Magma, and Wind Titans to help him conquer Olympus, he has them encase Zeus in a giant mountain (using the magma + ice). The following is the dialogue (and the only place I'd ever heard it before, so it could just as well have come from the Johnny Carson Ed guy).
Hades: Zeusy, I'm hoooome!
Zeus: Hades...you're behind this?!
Hades: YOU ARE CORRECT SIR!
I like James Woods and Disney, so I automatically lurve Hercules.

Titans: "Zeeeuuuusss! Crush Zeus! Freeze him! Melt Zeus! Rarrgghh!" &c.
Hades: "Uhh, guys?"
Titans: "Uh?"
Hades: "Olympus would be that way."
*awkward pause*
Titans, turning about-face: "Zeeeuuusss! Crush! Destroy!"
Hee hee. Though in all honesty, from what little I've seen of it, I think the TV spinoff of the movie did a better job spoofing the Greek mythology, sprinkled with other stupid jokes as well ("Dang, I need a prophet...ah, how convenient, the new Seers catalog's here.").

You know, I'm still waiting for a DVD release of a lot of TV series - that's one of them (I never got to enjoy it on a regular basis). I still say Hades is one of the best Disney villains in existence, though. :P

I remember seeing a bit of an interview with James Woods about doing the movie, and he mentioned that during auditions for Hades just about everyone else was using their best booming, intimidating voices, while when it was his turn he went more for the "used car salesman" vibe, and it ended up scoring him the part. "Last time I was this choked up I had a hunk of moussaka caught in my throat!"
Though as far as neglected TV series go which deserve a DVD release, I still pine for Rocko's Modern Life above all others.

Oh, really? I'll have to find said interview. As for Rocko, a lot of old series are being released on DVD nowadays (Batman Beyond, Animaniacs, Warner Bros. mentioned a possible Freakazoid! release, etc), so it might be possible. ;)
Wow, this got off topic. XD

Yeah, I forget where the heck I saw that thing, otherwise I'd point you to it...it might've even been a section of a general "making of" kind of thing about the movie, I honestly forget. And yeah, I hope and pine for Rocko, but the old cartoons you mentioned above are (IIRC) all Warner Bros. stuff, while Rocko's Nickelodeon, and I don't know what (if anything) they're doing with their old stuff...
And indeed, this thread's been pretty well-hijacked...but then again, that's what I'm here for. :D
