So, I've desided since I'll be going to college soon, one thing that will impress people is if I have somewhat an advid anime and manga collection. And since I'm sure there are a lot of crazed fangirls at colleges, I've desided to go ahead and buy some anime. Something I havent done since SakuraCon.
Here are some ideas for the Box Sets. I find all of thise are quite old, but I'm a pretty big fan of the more classic anime, like the old ones that used to be on Toonami some time ago. Here's what I was thinking.
Ok, so I'm gonna get this.
Slayers Movie Box Set: 5 Movies ($50)
Dragonball: Tournament Saga: 2 Disc, 15 Episode ($40) ((It's my favorite saga out of Dragonball))
Super Gals: Iron Clad Collection: 1-26 ($50)
Outlaw Star: Complete Collection ($50)
$100 worth of Manga.
Good? Any ideas if not? I might replace the Slayers Movie Box set with something else. But the store doesn't have many Slayers stuff, and I'm a big fan of Slayers.

Who are you looking to impress with an anime collection...?
If it's the other people in the anime club, great. But something tells me few other people would be thrilled. (And for the record, I haven't even met one crazed fangirl at college. In fact, the people I've met that even really know anything about anime I can count on one hand).
Good choices though.

Oh okay. I get to move in my dorm 2 weeks beofre school starts, and I wanna have a few anime parties to get to know people. If I have a cool collection, I might be able to get a little anime group going. Although I dont want to become the anime library or whatever.
And thanks. I'm glad I finally have an income where I can buy anime...and manga.

I've seen them, though fangirls are few and far between compared to the number of fanboys I've met (myself included at times).

Not a bad plan at all, just make sure that if you are in a dorm, you have a way of securing your stuff - not just your anime, but pretty much anything. I actually had one of my Ranma boxsets jacked from my dorm my freshmen/sophmore year.
If you can find people who are interested in anime, your collection might impress them and it might be good to try and set up your own group. You never know; I just wouldn't bank on impressing everyone with your collection, which is how it kinda sounds; however, I know you're smarter than that. Don't prove me wrong.

Those are really expensive, you don't need to impress people with your anime because you can just tell them you like anime.

Well, no, I mean, I do wanna have a good anime collection ANYWAY. I'm a fan, and the only series I have all of is Battle Athletes, the rest are burned or just a few volumes here and there.
Also, I'm buying these becuase of birthday money, and a really big paycheck. I wouldn't otherwise.
I just kinda wanna still have the circle of cool friends that like anime. Then we can have anime parties and stuff. I'm sure there will be people there who have better collections than me, I think I worded my intentions wrong.

Get Azumanga Daioh. It ranges from 35.99 at Best Buy to 49.99 everywhere else.
Don't know what it is at AN.

The ones you have listed are pretty good I guess. Try finding some cheap full series. One i recommend is Real Bout High School. I tihnk its like 60 USD on here. It has four dvds and it is pretty good. But if you look around, sometimes you can find it real cheap. i found mine at a book store for only 25 dollars. It was worth the money IMO. The series isnt all that great but for the price its a good buy.

Buying online will save you a lot of money. Paying retail is crazy.
You can get them for these prices online:
Slayers Movie Box Set: 5 Movies ($29)
Dragonball: Tournament Saga: 2 Disc, 15 Episode ($25)
Super Gals: Iron Clad Collection: 1-26 ($29)
Outlaw Star: Complete Collection ($29)

Even retail, that Outlaw Star box set is expensive. Online is cheaper, but I've seen the full box set at retailers for around $30-$35. It's a great choice, though - Outlaw Star is the sort of show that other folks in your dorm (not necessarily anime fans) will enjoy.
Of course, Slayers is a good choice no matter what.

You should use your good looks and natural charm to impress people. But that's just what I think.
Slayers is fun. Even though the first print boxset I have is the one with the faulty Japanese audio.

Its better to wait for FUNi's re-release of the Slayers. They will be the same price too. No other details.

That's a lot of money just to impress people. If I were you I would pick out titles that were really of interest to me and had a high level of rewatch value. As the others have said, running across a lot of other fans on campus may leave you somewhat disappointed, especially among incoming freshmen. And after the first week your "collection to impress" will just be for you to look at in your room. Again, get something that you will look forward to watching during those down times (which are few and far between in college). If these titles are it, you're good to go.

Speaking from experience you might not even have time to watch anime while your in college because other things might take up more of your time.

The impressing people okay, forget that, that's totally not the way I meant it, but whatever.
I'll go online and buy them, since that seems like a much better deal. I want them new though, not really used. It's not like I haven't done the used anime though. If anyone has any good sites I suppose, post them and I'll check it out. I'll check around Amazon and Ebay first.

DVDaficionado.com (http://www.dvdaficionado.com/) is your friend when it comes to comparing various DVD prices on the web. :-" I've found it to be very useful. ^_^
(Also, the sites on there are very reliable...from what I've seen, anyway. You won't have the fear of bootlegs like you would with sites like Amazon and Ebay.)
Of course...there's always the option of AN... *coughs* :P

So, so wrong (at least in my experience). Because college is a lot less homework and a lot more research paper/test oriented than high school, you get a ton more free time than in high school.
Since starting college I've watched so much more anime than I did in high school...

I'll probably end up using that. I've had no problems with Amazon or Ebay before, but in case I might just do with DVDaficionado. Man, why does buying anime gotta be so hard?
Deep Discount DVD....good place or not? I might buy all my stuff from there?

I hear Deep Discount also sells bootlegs.
At least with amazon, you've got a higher authority you can go to if there's a problem, and they're pretty clear and strict about rules and returns (customer's always right, that sort of thing.) I've unknowingly bought bootlegs from amazon sellers before, but they've always taken them back and given a refund, thus far.
Ebay's not so helpful (at all) in that realm.

No, that's another one who's name sounds similar to Deep Discount DVD. A common misunderstanding. I've been using them for years and never had a single problem. They're the real deal.

Well, that's where I'm gonna get most of my anime from. You guys were right, I just might as well buy online.
So, most of my stuff is comming from Deep, and Overstock. Thaks a lot everyone. Also, if you have any ideas on some good tittles to get, I'm happy to hear ideas.

Well, I would very much post the list of the anime I'm getting, but IE is crapping up. Stupid work computers. I'll try. Most of these I've seen some of, but not all. Except for Samurai Girl and Abenobashi. I've seen few episodes of the rest.
Samurai Girl: Real Bout High School - Complete Box Set
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi - Complete Collection
Noir - Complete Collection
Outlaw Star - Complete Collection
Super Gals - The Iron Clad Collection
Peacemaker - Complete Collection
Slayers - Movie Box Set
Total: 253.76
Thanks to most of you too. I'm glad I'm buying online, I would have been a sucker to do otherwise. Also, Hosoka, your anime list also helps me with a lot of titles. You rock. Furuba too.

Well, after browsing Hisoka series completed and Furuba and _jwb388_ collections, I have made quite an impresive wish list. Now if only I had started a long time ago...but my wish list is really something...I bet it'l take me about a year to get all this.
For any of you who may care. The wish list is here. (http://www.dvdaficionado.com/dvds.html?cat=3&id=videlcoolgirl) Although I only have so many DVD's I've actually bought. The rest are burned, so I didn't put them on the list. Bout time I start acting like a real anime fan. Seen so many, bought so few. So one day, far from now. I WILL have all the anime tittles listed. Ho Ha.
EDIT: Updated my list of anime, here's cememnted of what I'm going to buy this week.
Animation Runner Kuromi 2

Peacemaker - Complete Collection
Samurai Girl: Real Bout High School - Complete Box Set

Yeah, you were a big help. Your list of finished series is amazing, and also gave me a good idea of what series would probably be best to watch. A lot of the anime I've enjoyed, you seem to have enjoyed to, so some tittles, I went ahead and got. I'm sure I'll like them. I gotta get at least one Volume Of City Hunter...

Well, with College, it'l take me a while to probably get even halways down that list. I plan to buy at least a couple DVD's everytime I get paid, and If I have extra money left over from college.
Also, for my dorm, I'm buying an all region DVD player, using your PS2 all teh time sucks.
