I'm playing Prey right now. It's a pretty good shooter, the "portals" and "spirit walking" make for some cool firefights. Give it a try!....

Say what you will, but the gameplay is second to none. It's only one of, if not the most popular online FPS...beats the sh*t out of CS:S.

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
While not a shooter, Condemned: Criminal Origins is a fun game,
Prey is also a fun game

So I guess that Madden games must be some of the best games ever created, since it is one of the most played franchise in history, AMIRITE?

1.6 suffers from huge bullet sticky and from crappy graphics. Bullet sticky is about the most annoying thing I have ever encountered in an FPS.

I was always under the assumption that graphics werent the main focus of a video game.
When did it all change? People seem to rant about graphics and the likes now but some of the best games ever released had ****** graphics but you werent moaning before

when you go from half life engine to sorce it a big difference, lol. Oh and I already have Oblivion, I am pondering getting Prey but all the reviews say it mediocore, oh and I'm going to get GRAW when I get my 360 later. :P

I'm a PC FPS noob, what is "bullet sticky"? My guess would be that it's a glitch where bullets just sorta stick in midair (a-la matrix), and do damage if you run into them.

Bullet sticky is when you slow down when you are being shot at. Many FPS have bullet sticky but different degrees on how much you slow down. I usually don't mind some bullet sticky, but 1.6 has so much of it that it really drags the entire FPS down.

I'm not sure if many people call it "bullet sticky", but that just the term me and my friends use.

Prey was alright. But it didn't fully cash in on its innovations. The spirit walking was cool, but when ever you came to a dead end, the solution was always the same. Visually, it was great. With the enhanced graphics turned up, it was one of the best looking games I've seen in a long time. Still worth a recommendation from me.

While I enjoyed playing through Prey, I can't agree that it's one of the "best looking games."

I absolutely detest the Doom3 engine. Everything looks shrink wrapped, it's terrible.

The selling point of 1.6 is its realism. I don't think anyone would be able to retain the same speed while taking bullets. Except Superman. As for the graphics, well, the game is old. Besides, they really don't bother me. It's not as if they completely suck. They don't affect the gameplay at all.

Well, you either love the 1.6 engine or you hate it. To everyone their own, but enough people love it to make it one the most popular competitive FPS games ever.

It's old, but pick up System Shock 1 & 2 if you haven't already.

I second that!!

I third that. By the way, be sure to get the brilliant Deus Ex. It's over 6 years old, but the experience of it is still amazing. It's a FPS-RPG that employs a great degree of narrative, excellent story, cool weapons and gadgets, and complexity to create a truly immersive experience. It's my favorite RPG of all time and one of my favorite games of all time.

If you'd like a game more focused on strategy and precision, I highly recommend the Thief series, especially Thief Gold. It is a first-person stealth game and provides a highly immersive experience. There's nothing more satisfying than entering a place, looting everything, completing your objective, and then leaving without killing a single enemy. Of course, you are forbidden to kill on Expert difficulty but you can also play it on a lower difficulty if you'd like to stealthily cap a few guys. This happens to be one of my favorite games of all time.
