Why not just go as him from the OVAs. Do you have a hakama? They're pretty expensive. If you have curly hair then just straighten it with an iron.

well i ordered a new hakama, i do kendo and my old one is getting too short for me. ive had that one since i was a freshman in highschool im a freshman in college now. ill take ur advice on that straightening ironing thing and get some dye. but i was gonna go to joanne fabrics tomorrow and try to find a pattern for a keiogi. if not i might be able to wing it or maybe do a converrt of sorts. and no the hakama wasnt that expensive it was on clearance so i got it for $20. now i just need to worry about making the scar on my cheek. and what are the OAVs ive heard that 2 times now. what are they? ive seen a good majoirty of kenshin episodes and samauri x but that doenst ring a bell to me.

Original Anime Videos-OVA
Samurai X is the ADV version of Rurouni Kenshin: Tsukiohen and Seishousen. But most people like to call it the OAVs.
Wow, $20s?? I got mine for atleast $80 because fitting and customization. I'm also a Kendoka.
Well, just get a blue Keikogi, and get a Haori to put over it. It'll look alot nicer.

the 20$ hakama was propbably just a cheap polyester one, cotton ones got for more. if the one you got (for 80$) is any good then that's a steal. I also do kendo (haven't been do the dojo in forever tho.... that could be bad) and the one I have always wanted for kendo costs 200$, no custom fitting either. high grade cotton that doesn't shrink or lose it's color, made in japan. I still just have my polyester one I bought for 45$. I may be wrong, but isn't it spelled Kigogi? anyways, you're going to have a fun (ie. hard) time finding one in the color from the series. you could always go as kenshin from the first 2 OVAs, you could either do the 0, 1, or 2 scar Kenshin. also: OVA reffers to anime that went directly to DVD. as in it never made it to TV, and it's not just used in the US but also in japan, I saw the word "OVA" just sitting in a sentance of japanese when I went to japan. and I also think that you are cutting it too close in order to make this costume for Otakon. I have been working on my costumes for a while now, they are still not down but they have to be done for Nan Desu Kan (Oct.).
