I was wondering if anyone could recommend some manga that I might like? I haven't been able to find many titles I'm interested in. I don't like hentai or manga with a lot of perverted scenes. I usually read shonen manga, but I've wanted to start reading more shoujo manga lately. I like serious manga that's a bit dark, and sci-fi, fantasy, action, and adventure manga.

Some manga that I've liked so far are Hunter x Hunter, Wolf's Rain, Fruits Basket, Yu Yu Hakusho, +Anima, Ouran High School Host Club, and Juvenile Orion.

I've thought about reading Godchild, but I don't know much about it yet.

Beserk, Fullmetal Alchemist, BLAME!, Death Note, GTO and some more I can't think of off the top of my head.

Nodame Cantabile is a wonderfully accessible shoujo manga. Its not getting the loving it deserves.

Action sci-fi? Battle Angel Alita all the way.

Well...I have an idea of what you might like...so I'll list a few titles.

-Black Cat (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=3070) - You might like this one because of the characters. Sometimes, it reminds me a bit of Hunter x Hunter (somehow), so you might like it.
-BLEACH (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=2468) - I just thought I would throw this title out there. I'm not sure if you would like it, but it is a bit like Yu Yu Hakusho (in some ways). If you do decide to read it, be aware that the major plot doesn't really start until volume 7...and that's all I'm going to say. :)
-Elemental Gelade (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=4213) - Volume 1 was recently released...and, so far, it's quite good. It has a bit of a shonen feel to it, and it has fun and likeable characters.
-Rozen Maiden (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=4708) - If you're thinking about getting the gothic Godchild, you might also want to consider this title.
-The Wallflower (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=4120) - This series has a nice mixture of a fun plot, cool characters (most of which are bishounen :O), and sometimes complete wackiness. It's a lot of fun seeing Sunako try her hardest to thwart the boys' plans of making her into a lady...without really meaning to. XD

Also...Death Note is basically a must-read...so you may want to read that in the future too. ;)

I think Godchild is something you may be looking for. The storylines go from dark to very bizzare.

Descendants of Darkness sounds like something else you would enjoy. It's very depressing at times, and it has lots of angsty bishounen. The bad thing is, it was never finished, and volume 4 has an edit that may bother some.

Diabolo you may also like. Bad thing is, it's rather short, and the ending was utter crap.

Full Moon o Sagashite. At first glance, it looks quite cutesy and light-hearted. In later volumes, the story takes a turn that makes it quite dark and a little depressing.

Hopefully one of these will be to your liking.

Here's one I don't see mentioned a lot, but I happen to really like, Blood Alone (not to be confused with Blood The Last Vampire although they do have a few things in common). It's a little dark but a little more lighthearted than your average horror manga. I think the first 2 volumes are out now in the US.

Just be careful with Berserk. I noticed it's been mentioned here a few times already. It's very graphic and there are sexual situations in it. The anime is pretty tame in comparison (but that's really only because the series gets more disturbing as it goes and the anime doesn't get that far into the story.)

Anyway, I keep recommending this manga over and over again becuase I think it deserves a lot more attention than it gets: Mahoraba ~Heartful Days~ (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=5419). It's a shonen romantic comedy that stays well away from the pitfalls that plague much of the genre (such as improbable harems, comedy that revolves around slapstick that isn't actually *funny*, and a protagonist who is an idiot and/or a jerk).

You may have seen or heard of the anime, which aired in 2005. The manga story is somewhat similar, but there are many differences--particularly the length, at 11 volumes and counting--but also some significant plot differences that greatly increased my enjoyment of the story, but happen to be huge spoilers, so I can't really go into them. ;)

It's a very sweet and funny story, and is probably my favorite romantic comedy manga of all time. It's currently not licensed and is quite easy to find on the internet, with 10 volumes translated so far. Give it a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

X/1999 (violent, but not sexual. Very well done work by Clamp) Of course, not finished, as isn't Lawful Drug. =/
Want something fluffier?(you did say Shoujo) Marmalade Boy.
Little Petshop of Horrors.
I've read parts of Godchild, it was quite interesting at times. A bit dark as well. But I stopped because I only cared enough for it in Shoujo beat, which I stopped buying.

Evafan, let's not resort to name-calling. Not everything is for everyone.
I'd like to take this opportunity to recommend... Naoki Urasawa's Monster. I'm amazed it hasn't been recommended in this thread yet.

Eden: It's an Endless World and Angel Sanctuary. Both of them are dark and pretty serious. No real fanservice, some nudity, medium to alot of violence. Great storylines.
