Those pc vs mac commercials it's just like the pepsi vs coke commercials the newer company is trying to make the older one look bad. Or like a campaign commercial. I'm not denying that pc's have problems but those commercials are a cheap shot.
Haro!

The parody is quite not funny. I think the only mildly funny part was the trust fund line.
On a side note, if anyone's seen the trailer for that movie where some dudes invent their own college (SH Institute of Technology). Is that guy in the movie the same guy on the Mac commercials?

I like the gameing on a mac (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2B-ekl_cEWk&search=mac%20gameing) one, they should put that up as an answer to "fun". Did you know that OS 10.5 will have a new version of minesweeper?! That is fun and you only pay three times as much! They should also do the upgrade thing.
Anyone else catch the mac guy in there got some teeth missing from his grill?

I wanted to do one like on how Macs never tell you what the hell is wrong with your computer, and one on how both of them are cleaning out folders, and the PC one accedentally throws away his term paper, so does the mac guy. The PC just goes into a recyclin bin thats next to him and pulls it out, the Mac looks around but nothing is to be found. That would be great!
Although this will turn into another MAc/PC war, so we gots to keep it cool.

Though all the parodies may be funny, Apple still kicks Microsofts' ***. Maybe not in profits, but in quality of products all the way. Apple had nearly the equivalent of modern Windows when Microsoft machines were still running DOS. The only reason Microsoft got all the money is because Bill Gates was a much better business man and got all business standardized to the PC.

 As if PC's do. "Windows has encountered an error and will now shut down." Windows assumes you're too dumb to solve your own problems. Not to mention the better security and video editing software present on Macs. And, to even further screw over Windows, the many security flaws present in XP and IE are widely known on hacker forums across the internet. If I remember correctly, without any virus protection at all, the average Windows computer would have a virus or a trojan on it in 10 minutes or less.
Even if it is because "no one cares" (as that one Ctrl Alt Del comic said), or the security is simply better, there really are no (or very, very few) viruses for Macs.

PC/Windows still has the edge in price, but Mac wins in every other way. I'm not buying another Windows PC, personally. I've decided to bite the bullet and wait until I can afford to move up to a Mac that runs OS X.
The only thing I really hate about Apple computers is the keyboard and mouse. Those are going in the bin.

If people would just take care of their computers, they wouldnt get any viruses.

It's a different tool for a different job. Whenever I go to the animation department at my school all you see are macs. But in the Architecture department we use pcs. Most rational people will agree that neither one is better overall just suited for different tasks. Unfortunately in situations like this Videl may be right. Some die-hard fans come along and complicate the discussion ignoring the shortcomings of their desired os. But for the record long live the right click!!!
I have had problems with macs and pc. People seem to equate all pc's with dell and well dell's suck. Actually PC's that are custom made run soooooo much smoother. When I get enough money I will get one.

If people would just take care of their computers, they wouldnt get any viruses. You can either buy a boat full of holes, patch them all up with extreme care, and run the risk that one day you'll be out sailing and the boat will sink... or, you can buy a boat without any holes.

Most people condemn Macs without ever really giving them a try, though, because Windows by far dominates the home computer market.

No it was because Gates was smart enough to market his product to IBM as a work machine instead of a garbage niche toy. They are no better than a PC never have been except to the Mac cult who think the rainbow apple can do no wrong. I have serious problems with their products all the time at work. They are much harder to fix namely because apple buys into their lie of infallibility.

Wrong. Gates stole Apple's OS and marketed it as Windows. Apple wrote the original OS.

No. They are better than PCs. They have always been more advanced. Macs had the original GUI interface. Gates, pretending to work in a partnership with Apple, manipulated Steve Jobs and got him to show him the prototype Macs (yes, Jobs was an idiot for letting him do this). Gates essentially copied it and marketed it as Windows. But, of course, the copy is never as good as the original.

I love how everyone uses their anecdotal "Well, I never get viruses" as an argument. I'm a Computer Science major; I took immaculate care of my Windows laptop. It was always upgraded, scanned regularly, I took care in downloading files, and I still got a virus that has, for the time being, made it unusable. There are, however, no viruses for Macs, so one does not need to worry about what they download, or where they go. Everywhere is safe.

1) You assume they will grow popular.
2) Currently there are no viruses for Macs and tons for PCs. That alone tips the scale towards Apple.
3) If one is not a huge computer gamer, as there aren't many computer games compatible with the Mac, then they're the better option because of the increased security.
Don't get me wrong. There are people much better off with PCs. Those would include gamers, uh... gamers... and... gamers. But for people like me, who value security, video editing ability, and only really play Blizzard games on the computer, the Mac is the better choice.

Hey that is business. He had the connections and he used them. Gates has been in the computer business since 1975. He saw that people were board with MS-Dos and moved on. Stuff like this is why he is infamous

People say that Mac’s don't crash or freeze and they do. It has happened to me many times and I have lost work because of it. I get mad after working the entire night just to find my stuff gone but I don't let my bad experiences turn me away. Yes pc's have viruses why wouldn't they? People not only use them more often in their homes but at their jobs. Making a virus for a pc negatively affects more people and businesses. Why would someone make a virus if they did not want to mess with people?

You do know that people use computers for other things than listening to music and playing games. People do work on computers. In my case I need to use Auto Cad for some of my Architecture homework. Auto Cad does not run on Macs. If you are not pursuing a career in something like animation or graphic design and you need to run a special program on your computer to do your job then a pc will work fine. Now I am not all praise the pc or anything but saying that one is better than the other is an opinion. No matter how many statistics or bad blood between Microsoft and Macs someone brings up. It all depends on which operating system has the program that someone needs or the os that someone is used to.

I've tried both Macs and PC and I still favor PCs because of gaming, upgradability, the fact that I have never gotten a serious virus for my PC, and the ever godly right-click.
Here is another Mac sucks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgZQ_It0weI&search=mac%20sucks) video that I found particuarly funny. It's a bit old, but funny nonetheless.

Actually Gates wanted to license Apple's OS they refused, he wrote his own OS and then proceeded to beat the snot out of them in the market. Of course IBM rolled out the first serious PC in 1981 with MS-DOS 1.0 as an OS. The bad blood between Apple and microsoft did not really kick off for another 3 or 4 years.

How are viruses spread? You claim to be a "Computer Science Major" then you should know how they are spread. Very few virusis are proactive and they usually depend on the ignorence or the stupidity of the end user to propagate. If people did not click on the attached .pif file that says "nekkid wimmin" then there would be no viruses.

1. Apple hopes they will
2. There are viruses for mac, not a lot. 5% of the total PC market is not a tempting target. Let them get up to 25% plus then you will see more.
3. This may be true if you are a graphic designer it is the one thing mac does well
Don't get me wrong. There are people much better off with PCs. Those would include gamers, uh... gamers... and... gamers. But for people like me, who value security, video editing ability, and only really play Blizzard games on the computer, the Mac is the better choice.
You would do better to use Citrix or Linux for security. PC's for gameing and word processing and internet browseing. Macs for running Quark and In Design.

It's not just the commercials, but some persons on this thread. It seems to me, Linux (and the various "flavors" thereof) has both win & mac beat hands down. Fewer viruses, runs faster, and I'm sure the leet linux haxxors can find a way to make PC/windows games run on their platform. Linux, of course, has the great failing of not being too widely supported in terms of one single company that maintains it (versus Microsoft's windows or Mac's OS's). I'd probably be a linux user if I wasn't such a ***** to windows
Also, PC's have the "ever godly" right-click that Joeshie was talking about. I absolutely hate using mac's mice. And as everyone's been saying, PC's are upgradable, and cheaper to assemble, to boot. As far as playing games is concerned, there's a reason I own a PS2 and Gamecube. It seems to me that a macintosh is the PC equivalent of a console, except without the games :P. It's not designed for hardware upgrades, and everything in the OS assumes the user can't navigate an OS except to get around and click things.

Usually, yes. However Trojans (I'm not sure which my computer got, since it deleted my definition files), are installed (usually via an attachment, but sometimes from a vulnerable port) as backdoors to systems. From there they can do whatever the hell they want to your computer. If you are anywhere on the internet where someone skilled can track down your IP address, then they can use a port scanner on you, find open ports, install a Trojan, and use your PC to store their LOL L33T WOW HAX, or delete your files, or even remote control your computer to telnet to another one. That's probably the best way of covering your tracks when hacking, is to telnet from one computer to the next, to the next, across a few countries.
The point is there are lots of other ways for your system to get a virus or trojan than opening that "nekkid wimmin" attachment.
Anyway, not much of a computer gamer, have little attachment to the right click, and I value graphic design. The Mac is for me, but it is not for everyone.
And that's the last post I'll make in this argument. :O

The one were they say it is compatible with windows is too, Bootcamp will only be supported by OS 10.5. I had some stupid IT people here try to modernize and we discovered that half the programs and hardware do not work. Called Apple and Shri Shri Ravi Shankar told me it is not supported until 10.5. Also, didn't Mac & Windows derive their OS's from one developed by Xerox? I'd heard Xerox developed the first GUI, and didn't know what to do with it, and so sold it to either Gates or Jobs (or both). It was then modified, and sold to the general public as a different application.

They actually have started to make mouses with right clicks that are compatable with macs but you have to buy one it isnt a part of the normal package. There is a key on the mac keyboard that one can press while using a mac mouse that brings up a right click like menu. (can't remeber which one it is at the moment.) See, this is what the problem is with a lot of Windows users bashing the Mac. If you're going to bash something, be sure you know what you're talking about first. The Mac has supported context menus (often ambiguously referred to as "right click") since the '80s, even though it didn't originally have 2 buttons. Many 3rd party manufacturers developed and sold 2 and 3-button ADB mice for Macs, and with a 1-button mouse the context menu could be pulled up with a click-hold, or a ctrl-click. Everyone agrees, one button is stupid. Blame that on Steve Jobs, who was voraciously against using a mouse that was similar to the one Microsoft was making at the time.

Stupid and inane.. it just spreads more OS Evangelism... the parodys are nice, but still...
The one thing that sucks in all of this is the fanboyism i'll invariably see...
Wrong. Gates stole Apple's OS and marketed it as Windows. Apple wrote the original OS.
*proceeds to beat Samurai Drifer, with the sledgehammer used in the "1984" commercial, back to 1973*
Wrong
Xerox wrote the original GUI interface for their Alto computer (yes, back in 1973 which means *gasp* it predates not only the Mac, but the Lisa and the Apple II). Apple stole off them (he got their idea when he visited the PARC, against the wishes of a lot of the staff there, i might add) then complained that Microsoft stole ideas off them
Sorry but Apple isn't blameless in stealing either. In fact, since he toured the PARC against the explicit wishes of the staff there (but with the approval of upper management, which we all know are incompentent turds), i think Apple could have more blame than MS...
He also pinched more than the GUI idea... You think Appletalk was something Woz thought up?
Given that Aqua is based directly on the NeXTSTEP interface with tweaks to make it feel like the System/MOS GUIs, it's not like pinching stuff from non-apple products has finished. Bonjour and Front row? please, that ain't new either.. we've had MythTV for freaking ages.
Oh, and Bernard's right. Microsoft wanted to Licence it (as part of either DOS2 or DOS 3.3, i can't remember which one), which, given the spread of the Windows platform, could have made Apple as big as MS is now (possibly bigger)...
But, of course, the copy is never as good as the original.
fanboy alert.
the funny thing about that last paragraph is if you replace "Gates" with "Jobs" and replace "Apple" with "Xerox", then that's what happened at PARC.
As i said before, Apple ain't blameless either....
Being a CS major holds no sway with an ex SysAdmin... My 14yo sister maintains a better computer than a lot of the CS majors i've met (and got suckered in to cleaning their computers). The fact that you got a virus inspite of your education shows that...
And, for a CS student, you're forgetting your computer history...
They actually have started to make mouses with right clicks that are compatable with macs but you have to buy one it isnt a part of the normal package.
No they don't have a right click. they simulate and guess a right click.
I would take a cheapy Microsoft USB intellimouse over the apple's Mighty mouse anyday. At least the right click is actually a right click microswitch...
There is a key on the mac keyboard that one can press while using a mac mouse that brings up a right click like menu. (can't remeber which one it is at the moment.)
See the button between the right ALT and the Right CTRL buttons on a standard 104 key keyboard? That's the windows version
Everyone agrees, one button is stupid. Blame that on Steve Jobs, who was voraciously against using a mouse that was similar to the one Microsoft was making at the time.
Can we also add that using 1 button to emulate 2 is also very retarted?

Yes, and that's the only thing I don't like about my new MacBook. :naughty: Running OS X and un-emulated Windows side by side is quite convenient, however. Well, at least until I need to pull up a context menu...

You forgot the fact that they added BSD code and extensions on top of Mach. The biggest consumers of the Mac platform besides publishers have been musicians and producers. Never seen realtime audio on Windows without expensive, unreliable third party cards.

I was thinking more the Mighty mouse than the macbook's touchpad though
The macbook's touchpad is nice, with it's 2 finger scrolling and all that...
the mighty mouse, however, is teh suxxor...

There's also the vid editing market. with iMovie HD and FCP, it's a better platform than Windows and Premiere pro

I love the 2 finger scrolling, and I've gotten used to reaching for ctrl with my pinky for a right click (being left-handed), but I still kind of wish I could saw the last third of that button off and make it a right-click.
Also, I do think it'd be nice if more manufacturers adopted the 4-direction scrolling that the Mighty mouse does. Granted left to right isn't as necessary as up to down, but a scroll ball (or pointing stick?) would be a godsend in image editing.

Both my logitech mice can do 4 directional scrolling
that being said, driverless 4 directional scrolling would be nice. cause i need to install the drivers for that. same with the MS sideway scrolling mouse too...

What models are they? I'd like to get my hands on one or two of them. (Forgive the unintended pun there)

That was awsome Bernard!

Did anyone post the Apple Switch parody "Crash Differently" yet? It's a million times better than this, and this is pretty good.
EDIT: found it!

My main desktop's mouse (and keyboard and remote control)
Sad bit is that the sideways scrolling requires drivers, which affect the way i use my center button in firefox

I'll settle the argument really quick: they both suck. There.
I've used both PC and Mac, and I plan on getting a Mac laptop to accomodate my desktop PC. OH NOES. That or I could get Linux and run both. XD
