I just started to watch Inuyasha a couple weeks ago and I've enjoyed what I've seen so far. Could someone tell me who is a fan, how many episodes have they made of the series and a manga count? Did the story end for Inuyasha? If so, is the majority of Inuyasha arcs considered very well done, or does the show/manga dip in quality at any point?
Thanks

i think u r still at a very early stage in the anime so i don't wish to reveal ne spoilers for u. but the manga hasn't ended yet, altho it seems like its pretty near the climax. the anime has covered upto ep 167, and the ending isn't a proper ending. as for the series, the manga and the anime r two diff stories, almost, in terms of characterization and sequence of events. if u ask me, the manga dips a little beyond ep 167, in terms of the inuyasha-kagome relationship, but its picking up again in the recent chapters. the anime somewhat dips around ep 133-140 due to a large and unnecessary amount of filler episodes. but they've handled the last bit q well. if u r watching the anime on a regular basis, i'd recommend u not to miss an ep till 54, and then around 80, and 100-125 have been brilliantly done, and beyond that u must watch 166-167. those r my recommendations. however, if u want to understand things, u must regularly watch all eps. 'cos inuyasha is sth that starts as an enjoyment and then ends up in addiction. u've only started yet. mada mada da na...u still have a long way to go now.

Episode 167, the last episode in the anime, falls around chapter 356 (either at the end of or in the middle of the chapter; I don't quite remember). However, as marishaten pointed out, the anime doesn't have a resolved ending; it just sort of...ends. The manga, on the other hand, is still running in Japan's weekly Shonen Sunday, and although one can claim to see a sliver of light at the end of the tunnel that represents the end of the series, the manga is still going strong.
Personally, I recommend reading the manga, as well as watch the anime, if for no other reason than that the manga continues after the anime ends. Also, there are some differences between the anime and the manga, and I feel that, to get the best out of your InuYasha experience, it doesn't hurt to follow both.

Something else to note: in addition to having 167 episodes, Inuyasha had 4 feature-length films. ;)
