View Full Version : MirKz's Art Thread

Hey all,

been a long while since I have come on here and posted something. Been a little preoccupied and not very motivated. Oh well I guess it happens, anyhow, its been about 2-3 months since I have drawn anything halfway decent. I figured I would make a new thread for my art as my last one was a little long, and I want to start afresh...

Here is one I did up last night, as I figured I had gone long enough without drawing..
hope you all like.

That looks really good, MirKz. I love how the shadows play around in the cell. Good job, I hope to see more of your work

Hey, good to see your stuff here again ^_^ Sometimes, it seems easier to keep up with others in a forum than on DA...

Anywho, Cloud looks kinda kiddy here, I guess that's how the original is? I kinda like it that way, though ^_^

And nice work having the extra shadows from the gates play along his leg! It wouldn't hurt for the whole thing to have a bit more contrast, but that's not a huge concern at the moment.

You see more confident drawing this body than before, and it's always good to see art with a background ^_^ Hope you get back into the groove soon! Sayos for now.

I think you did a great job, its simple and clean. Nice pose!

Thanks everyone! glad you all seem to like it!

Here is one I did reasonably quickly... not too much effort went into it, just a quick sketchy outline followed by a harder line.

http://www.members.westnet.com.au/mirks/MIRKZ/Bikini.jpg

again this is not original, but a copy from an image I found on the web.

Heres my own design of a dragon from the front.. nothing special by any means

http://www.members.westnet.com.au/mirks/MIRKZ/Dragonfront.jpg

here is another one I did from a side view... I know his chest is out, the centre line shouldnt be straight down it should be closer to the edge...

For your bikini pic, the armpit is very thin. There is also something wrong with her face. One of them happens to be that her eyes are two noticeably different sizes, and the other is that it just doesn't look "right." Can't place my finger on it. The rest is pretty good though, especially since you say it was only a quickie sketch.

Your dragon is great, even better than the stuff you had references for.

Still very nice...but the bikini girl has a big lump coming out of her breast. MY GOD...those dragons look similar to mine lol.

Thanks everyone!
Yeah I know the bikini one has a few problems with it... Im not too fussed, was just something to pass the time, never intended for it to be fantastic! haha.
the lump in the breast was supposed to be there, its in the original... i figured it was some sort of nipple lump perhaps ??

again, thankyou all for taking the time to have a look and comment!
will post more up when I get around to doing more!! (glad you like the dragons)!

Okay here's a new one that I did up today... did a pretty quick job on the shading.. got a little bored with it. I have a bad habbit of starting drawings and getting a lil bored, or wanting to do something else half way through... :(

Misato: I think I commented on this one back on DA a while back, sooo... I'll just say, here, errr... Yay, it's Misato!

The Full Metal: Not bad at all! You picked a dynamic pic to emulate, and even though his body looks a bit funny in the chest area (for reasons I can't define ATM), it's overall a cool pic with nice shades ^_^

Samurai: Samurai Deeper Kyo, ain't it? I know I've seen the base for this one before... anywho, very nice! It might just be that this is a better photo (a scan?) than normal, but the shades and lines look especially good here.

Thanks SAB!!
Yeah the one with the Samurai, not sure where he is from etc... but yeah I spent about 6 hours on it, so took my time with EVERYTHING on this picture to make it right! Very happy with the way it turned out.

Good God! You draw very, VERY well!!! Are these free hand, or do you look off of something while you draw? They look very nice, very professional ^_^.

The only issue I have with it (and it isn't even a big deal, but I thought I'd say something anyways :P), is his left hand--the pinky looks a little odd. I think if you would have drawn a 'skin wrinkle' where the smooth line connects the top of the pinky and the rest of the hand (the outside edge of the pinky), it would have looked a little more 'natural'. Otherwise, very nice!!

Great work hun!!

Thankyou both for your kind words!
Most of my pics I use a reference (pic of what Im drawing) to do them and then just draw them. I have done a few that aren't copied from anything, but I find them difficult to do. There was a reference (original pic), that was used to draw my picture.

Hello everyone!

I know its been quite a while since I've posted anything new in here. I've been a little preoccupied with other things, so I hadn't gotten around to uploading anything (I still drew a few different things though).

Anyway, here is one I did about 2-3 weeks ago. Not an original picture, I used a reference.

Hope you like it!
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g237/Mirkz/Darkman.jpg

Also here is one I drew for a very close friend of mine (I also framed it for her so she has it sitting on her desk). It's a picture of her bike. Took me a while to do this cause I wanted it to be a good job. I'm reasonably happy with the outcome. Hope you all like! This was also done sometime back in september.

Um...I do like the dragons. Maybe you'll have to design my Long-Zhanshi's dragon armor. LOL

I love the most recent pic too...though his left hand doesn't quite seem to fit in with the rest of the pic. It seems just a wee bit too sharp, where everything else is more faded into the heavy shadow. I love the expression on his face though.

The motorcycle is pretty sweet too, with one minor thing...the tires look free hand while most of the rest look like you used edges. It looks like it might be a bit of a rough ride. LOL

MirKz
December 13th, 2006, 12:17 AM
Yeah tyres were done freehand (well the whole drawing was, didn't use a rule at all).

Thanks for the comment & crit :)

I think I know what it is with chests...most of your figures are turned in various ways so their hips are a different direction than their chests...this seems to be throwing off the sight lines, where you might be showing a bit too much of the chest for the angle that it's at. I'm not sure if that makes sense...but I'm not sure how else to describe it. Anyone else see that?

Here's one I finished up today, Unsure who the original artist is and whom the character is, found the pic from this website in the Cute Guys/Girls Anime section.

Very nice, though I think we're seeing a bit too much of the girl's face. It makes it look like she has no nose, and her lips must be attached to the other side.

Okay, I know the pic is the best quality, had to use my phone cause my digital camera likes to use up battery power when it's sitting here in front of me doing NOTHING!...
Anyway...
Here's a new one I did up over the past 2 days, probably took me about an hour or two in total...
I know its not the best but I thought it wasn't a bad effort after 8-9 months of nothing...

Ejinathan, yep it's Cloud, pic is from Advent Children.

Haha it was a one off I think Shiroiyuki ;)
However, if I get the urge to again, I will most likely do more :D

His eyes didn't come out the way I wanted them too, I feel it lets the pic down..

Okay so I finished the line art for this pic that has been sitting around for about 2-3 months now.
Not overly happy with it myself, think it needs a bit of work still, I'm having a hard time sleeping lately, so I did this last night for a few hours to wind down when I couldn't sleep. Unsure if I'll look into shading it or not...

Apologise for the lacking of quality of the photo (no scanner).

Motorcycle image: cool.

I think that image of the kissing couple looks cool too.

The 'Cloud' image, and your newest image are your best yet, MirKz. A little help from Photoshop to bring out the images:

By the way, while cleaning up the images I got a closer look at the girl's hands. you did a great job on her hands. Hands are very hard to do, but you did those very well.

Mirkz!!!!!!! I love to see you drawing again ^_^.

The newest one of that girl (the one that looks like Yakumo from School Rumble) is neat. I really like the linework on her chest (yes, I know how that sounded V_V, but it is purely from an artistic standpoint! :P). It's very straight and clean.

You should draw more, Mirkz! Get yourself a scanner :D

MirKz
March 14th, 2009, 11:58 PM
Thanks bella!

I'm thinking if my sleeping patterns remain as they have been lately, I'll be drawing more :)
hehe.
Scanner... hmm.. got some other things that need alot of $$ poured into before I can get that :(
And you're right, she's supposed to be Yakumo :) (first anime girl I've come across that's really struck me as the 'elegant/gorgeous' type)

Mavin Maverick
March 15th, 2009, 07:57 AM
Scanners aren't that expensive...we even got an all-in-one printer/copier/fax/scanner for only a couple hundred bucks. You can get a plan flat scanner for much less than that, and it should do a decent job. (Though, the photos you took weren't that bad compared to some I've seen!)

MirKz
March 15th, 2009, 03:41 PM
I know they're not 'expensive', but I'd rather put the money towards other things at this point in time.

Well after taking some time away from drawing (due to laziness/lack of motivation/time), I've finally got a fresh one. Thanks to Shiroiyuki for urging me to post it, otherwise I probably wouldn't have bothered.

I've only done the outline and I know I have to fix up the hand due to the proportions, but I'm reluctant to redo it because I think it looks well done, and if the rest of the pic was the right size to match, it'd look great :P

I'll hopefully get a chance this weekend to do it and then shade it perhaps.
I also think I should get back to drawing on an A4 page, so that I can scan my pics at decent resolution rather than taking a stupid picture.

Please feel free to comment/share advice etc.

YAY! Mirkz, you really are a great artist! You don't give yourself credit ^_^.

I think you should leave the hand there and use it for reference when drawing a more proportionally correct one. That way you still get the same shape and finger placement and feel good about the new one, too.

Then go over the whole thing in ink (I know, I know, you don't like to do this, but you should. It makes such a difference visually. Even in a picture taken with your phone, the details would be seen so much easier -- and you'd have a new skillset to brag about :P.) and erase the old one underneath. Voila, new hand .

I have a ton of experience using pens (ball point and pen and ink nib sets), so if you want to go this route, just ask ^_^. I'd be happy to help you!

MirKz
January 20th, 2012, 02:09 PM
I've never drawn over existing work like that.
I kind of know what you mean, but I don't know if I'd be able to do a good job of it if the existing one is there and in my way :P

I hope when I do get to do it (might try today/tonight after work), I'm able to do it well..

Have you ever considered or done like any all digital design maybe like working for EA or something like that.

Try reversing the image over a light source (like a window) and drawing the hand on the opposite side (clean side) of the paper, flipping, putting it BACK over the light source and redrawing on the correct side.

Flipping any drawing will help you see the mistakes and how to correct them. I'm serious :P. Don't ask me why but it's like getting a fresh perspective on your art.

This might help you, Mirkz ^_^

MirKz
January 20th, 2012, 03:10 PM
Dokuro-chan, never considered anything like that, no.. I wished when I was 17 and finished school I went into something graphic/art related and continued to study.
I regret not doing that so much these days.

EDIT: Certainly would be interesting though and I think I'd get a real buzz out of it if I were able to get into it.

Shiroiyuki, I might have to try it. It's very hot over here at the moment, so I don't know how enjoyable it'll be for me to draw with the picture up against a window or something haha :P

MirKz
January 21st, 2012, 11:55 PM
Okay, fixed the hand up.. the new one still came up alright I think?

Trying to decide whether to shade it, can't colour... never had colour pencils.
Don't think I can go over it with pen...well maybe just the outlines.. but I think that'll look stupid when I can't go over the rest of it in pen (only have one type of pen) and I can't scan it in because the pic is too big.

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g237/Mirkz/7cb042c7.jpg

The thumb is a little light, I've just gone back over it.
Might try shade it tonight.

EDIT: I've decided to go down the route of shading, being it's something I'm used to doing from when I used to draw. My gf suggested I finish the pic this way, because if I try a way I'm not used to doing and I don't get a result I'd hope for, it might not motivate me to do more. I figured she has a point.

Half shaded now.. I think it's looking ok so far, but you guys will be the end judge.
MAY be up later tonight, see how it goes.

I LOVE IT! You have gotten so good at drawing and shading ^_^.

The hand's size looks a lot better too (did you try my trick? :P) but his thumb looks a little awkward. I think if you put a little shadow beneath his fingers and shade the flesh of his hand so that the palm is thinner it would look better. Hold on...I'll try and show you what I mean with Gimp.
http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/2354/handsuggestion.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/39/handsuggestion.jpg/)

See? Put a little shadow beneath the tips of his finger and create that "depth" in the palm to help make the thumb pop more ^_^. I also erased the line you had on the thumb to make it look like it was sitting on the outside of the fingers. I also added a little more thickness to the pinky to balance out the whole hand. Hope you don't mind me fixing your drawing.

I'm glad you went back and darkened in the lineart. It makes everything look a lot neater and stand out. It really did improve the whole picture. :D

MirKz
January 25th, 2012, 07:49 PM
Thanks Shiroiyuki :)
You're too kind, I didn't think I had gotten any better seeing I hadn't drawn for so long.
I used a 2B and 4B this time, they're usually the only ones I use if I use anything other than a 2B.

I was going to try your tip, but when held up the paper to the window it was really hard to see through, it's quite thick paper, so I just had to try it from scratch.
What you've done with the thumb and the hand does look good and I might have to adjust my picture a little I think, thanks for the input was trying to work out how to create more depth with it, but I ended up just shading as per the pic I was looking at because I couldn't figure it out.

I was hoping to do another picture this weekend, but I'm not sure who/what to draw and I think this weather is going to make it too unpleasant to sit in this room for a number of hours... so we'll see.. might get SOMETHING started at least perhaps.
