Well, I just finished Gravitation today, and yea, the story was good I suppose, but that is the only Yaoi I ever gave a chance. I still didn't like the romances, heh... I couldn't stick to them...and the music was too much in my head, so I couldn't focus. I DID see what happened and all...but yea, Yuri is #1 in my eyes...always will be :) Girls are just....sexier to watch kiss than guys, haha.

Actually, what surprises me more, is that the numbers here are more balaned than seemingly everywhere else for yaoi fans. I figured it would be about 3-1 female, but I'm told that some other areas are as much as 7 or 8-1 female, which I suppose is more normal, but... I just have these rose-colored glasses. Many men are yuri fanboys, I heard someone's explanation that boys like to see a romance between girls because we don't get jealous of the man in the relationship obviously, and if a girl chooses romance with another girl it doesn't hurt our self preceived masculinity.

Male Yuri fanboy.

I don't subscribe to that explanation. Not every guy is that obssessed with his "masculenity." I like yuri pairings because they are cute, other wise aesthetically pleasing, and the best characters in shows are usually females anyways. Why would you want to ship your favorite character with some male douche-bag who annoys the hell out of you anyways? coughtenchicough. I also think females have more interesting emotions to play with when it comes to romance fiction. It adds entirely new dimensions to it. Guy/girl cliches on the other hand can get boring, especially after you've seen them in everything you have watched and read for your entire life.

You have a point. I also think it can be true for female yaoi fans. I believe it is something primal and originates from subconsciousness, can't be helped really. Not saying that its the case for everyone.

^Thats the problem people lump they hentai crowd in with the yuri crowd, and that asertion is just ignorant. They definitley need to be sepparated. I mean theres a lot of guy/girl romance shows, but does that imply that people watch them only because they like seeing guy/girl sex? It makes no sense.

Hentai....just freaks me out, I don't want to see an animated thingymawut...and like Matt, not a "hardcore" Yuri fan in THAT fashion. Jeyl
July 15th, 2006, 11:13 PM
But seriously. I understand how so many people like Yoai. I actually envy you all out there since you've got like 2-3 manga distributers selling Yoai manga in book stores. If only Yuri had that much attention. But the folks at ALC are sure doing a great job in getting the word out.

But generally, I prefer yuri over yoai simply because I love the female being so much when it comes to love stories. The way they smile, how they talk, how they look when they're together, ect. :huggles:

I'm certain these aspects can apply the same way to Yoai, and that's perfectly legitimate (Except for the "Superior" bit). When it comes down to it, It's all about preference. I just hope we're all happy with what we got.

ZoharContact

When it comes to Yuri, most localizers probably think that the male demographic cannot handle anime that focus on relationships, while they assume that the female demographic isn't interested. And who knows? They may be right (present company excluded), which would be quite unfortunate.

...I hope Kannadzuki no Miko sells well. Why have equal when you can have.... SUPERIOR!?Honestly, I'm not sure people would like me answering that question here. Here's the short version: people often put the female sex on a pedestal and revere it for a few reasons. For example, avoidance of violence, harmony with nature (that one's highly suspect), and being honest with their feelings (again, highly suspect).

It's good that many women have these traits, but it's not good that they're associated with the female sex rather than female enculturation. That's called "essentialism" (EDIT: Actually, I think it was "essentialization." Maybe both apply.) and it often prevents men from exhibiting those traits, lest they be censured as feminine. I think we can agree that problems arise from such a situation. That's one main reason I dislike the notion of "superior."

...Thank goodness, it was actually a short answer. Sorry for being off topic.

Jeyl
July 16th, 2006, 12:00 PM
I didn't mean that women are superior in a sense of story telling. I mean they superior in general. It is women after all who go through the greatest lengths and pains in persuit of life, while it's just a walk in the park for us guys.

It seems to me that among all kinds of anime fans(don't know about hentai though) we are the ones that cross the line between anime concepts and their real life counterparts most often, myself included. In the debates that is.
Genders are not meant to be equal, they compliment each other, and really are apples and oranges and shouldn't be measured with the same yardstick.
That said; Jeyl, please do go on about female greatness! :P
