Two questions about VIZ's Hikaru no Go DVD Releases:
What is the release rate and why is it so low?

Seems to be every 3 months. Not sure why, though.

I like it a lot, but I guess it doesn't have such great ratings, because in the last SJ, they only had 1 Chapter!

Hikaru no Go looks to shift from a quarterly to bi-monthly release with a new release due in November

It was posted in another thread a few weeks ago. Great news, huh? :)

It's going bi-monthly!?!?! Ooohhh, I like that. Much better than quarterly. Makes me happy inside.

The dub is one of the worst I have ever heard. In the Japanese version, two of the main characters (Hikaru and Akira) are both voiced by women, giving them the voices of very young boys. In the dub, it sounds like they got two 30 year-old loser men to do the voices. They are very off. I would stick to the subs with this one. This is coming from someone who is a major dub fan.

I think I know why the dub is worst. You see the dudes that did the english dub voice is:

Michael Adamthwaite .... Ogata
Mike Coleman .... Mitsura Mashiba
Paul Dobson .... Toya Meijin
Keith William Miller .... Kimihiro
Kirby Morrow .... Ito
Scott Perrie .... Akira
Kelly Sheridan .... Ms. Ichikawa
Chantal Strand .... Akari
Brad Swaile .... Sai
Sam Vincent .... Hikaru
Cathy Weseluck .... Yuki

I'm that you guys heard and already know that there's 2 OAVs of the show (Hikaru No Go!) which is called Hikaru no Go - Jump Festa 2001 and Hikaru no Go Special - Hokuto Hai eno Michi. Say does anybody know when will the 2 OAVs be out on DvD? & Why?

There hasn't been any word on those yet. We can only assume that the continuation special will be on a separate disk when it's all said and done. Speaking of which... I really wish another special or two would come out just to finish off the series. There really wasn't a whole lot more to go. It's been a few years since the last special so I'm starting to lose all hope.

i just had the pleasure (displeasure?) of watching the dub. man oh man, it seemed like viz hired some fanboys off the street to do its dubbing. the only semi-decent voice out of the whole lot is akari, done by chantel strand. the rest?

hikaru: the main character, but he sounds like he's continuously reading off a script
akira: sounds like a 25 year-old guy who makes no attempt to sound younger
touya meijin: old man voiced by someone 20 years younger, who makes no attempt to sound older
ogata: giddy va, playing the role of a laid-back character?
sai: plain ridiculous in every way

the whole production is ridiculous. in cases like these - where the studio doesn't even seem to care about quality - why not default the main audio to japanese? otherwise unsuspecting region 1 buyers would be totally put off if they hadn't experienced it before.

^I'm not sure if you can do it with yours, but I'm able to preset my DVD player to pick up the Japanese audio track and English subs.

And I have to agree on the dub. I'm not too thrilled with it either.
