Maybe its just me,but i do feel a bit nostalgic.I was posting another topic on another forum when i got into a discussion about Sega,no,not the DreamCast. But about the company in general, and its contributions of the gaming genre.
Im one of the older fans that can remember the Sega Genesis,The Sega Saturn,The 32x and the Game Gear.I still think that Sega could have surived the DreamCast and made a new system, instead of being a game maker.
Im sure there are others who feel the same way,i suppose you can talk about Sega in general here. The games, the consoles and other things relating to it.

Sega had a great run indeed. I disagree though I think Sega could not have survived and made another console... It's really funny that the dreamcast is most people's favorite Sega system and yet it did horribe...

I have always enjoyed Sega systems. I own every one of thier systems and to this day, still like to play them. Sega had a great run, but they couldnt keep up with Sony and other large corporations. Sega systems will always have a place on my shelves.

I played games on the Sega Genesis and the Dreamcast. I would say that Sega Genesis was the better of the two because I played more great games on that one. However, the Dreamcast had great games as well such as Jet Set Radio, Marvel vs. Capcom, and Sonic Adventure 2.

My friends and I busted out Goldenaxe last night. Talk about a trip down memory lane.
I'll always hold Sega in high regard, Genesis, Saturn and Dreamcast were all great systems with an nice library of classic games. Too bad they went the route of the dinosaur as far as creating another system. I have to be honest though,if they had continued making systems, I really couldnt see them competeing against the next gen systems, but probably going the same route as Nintendo.

I have to say the Sega Dreamcast was my favorite. Mainly because I thought it had a high ratio of great games in its library. Many of my favorite SNK and Capcom fighting game ports also happen to have been released on the DC. Another worthy mention would be the Sega Genesis. I literally grew up playing Sonic, and many other great games for what actually was Sega's only successful system during the 16-bit era. I'd love to get a Sega Saturn one day. It is known to have had many great games released for the system, especially in Japan.

Genesis or Dreamcast, not sure.
Gen was my favorite console until this gen really, then perhaps DC beat it out.
Sega was my fav console maker, but since they no longer make em that title falls to their old rival.
I'd much prefer they still make consoles and we ditch out the two newcomers. But whatever, stuff happens.
I think they could of survived last gen had they been better at marketing and certain other things hadn't happened. I question whether MS would of even bothered making a console though if the Sega had stayed in. Whichever. The gaming market is oversaturated with consoles now, unfortunately I doubt it will go back to Sega vs Nintendo ever again.

Sega Dreamcast, though I loved Genesis' early year games like: Revenge Of Shinobi, Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Valis III, etc. Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, and Grandia II were my fav Dreamcast games.

I picked dreamcast, but I also love my Saturn and wish I still had my Genesis.
Saturn may have come closer to being my pick if I had more games for it, unfortunately I bought mine from my best friend in 2000 and he had sold off many of his games before he offered the System to me. I'm still abit pissed at him about that, I would have gladly paid any price for all the games he had.

The Dreamcast is the favorite because it was lightyears ahead of the competition. Mainstream online gaming? GTFO. Unheard of. Xband didn't even last. They were giving us the things we wanted in a console and it had great games to back it up.
And the fact it did horrible was because of Sega of America. They fuked everything up by not marketing it over here. Dreamcast was HUGE in Japan. Still competed with the PS2 for a few years until they figured it was time to call it quits.
I can't vote because my love goes for both the Saturn and Dreamcast. Granted I'm a fan of the old school stuff as well. But, the Genesis only but so much to offer. Especially since I was fan of fighting games at the time the Genesis did little to nothing to satisfy me there. The Saturn and the DC on the other hand, those were two marvellous systems right there.

As for myself,i picked the Genesis,Saturn and Dreamcast. The last system, the Dreamcast will undoubtily go into legend as being before its time.Either that or if you actually read into it,it was plagued with little mistakes that actually added up.
The Saturn could have lived longer,if it did not faulter in the end.Fans know what i mean.As for Sega, does anyone really like the idea of its games on other systems..there are some who undoubtibly dont like it..

I honestly have no idea what killed them. No one wanted the consoles, I guess. They had a good run, though.

Whats mastersystem not doing on the list? I'm offended!
I own every Sega system exept 32x. I own every Sonic game on the Genesis and Dreamcast. The older Sonic games were the best but the ones there pumping out today are crap. Sega was one of my favorite game companys right up with Nintendo, until It died. Dreamcast was a wonderful system... regardless what the chances are I hope one day Sega starts making systems agian. The genesis was the best system because if its selection of great games and its quality. Old games can still be exilent games!

I'd also like to add to your explanation that Sega simply had too many consoles out at once. When the Dreamcast went down, they were still supporting the Genesis, Saturn, and another console in addition to the Dreamcast (maybe the Game Gear?). While they weren't seeing a lot of support state-side, they were still being supported in Japan.
While Sega of America might have been the primary reason Sega stopped making consoles, they'd also stretched themselves too thin.

The master system is technically a extension,it did not have any games.I checked Wikipedia.
As for Sega of America, when the Dreamcast came out, they had a short time before the PlayStation2 came out. Many people said that if the Dreamcast had a DVD feature, like the PS2,it could have surived.
Some say that Sega pulled the plug a bit too early, some wanted to see how the Dreamcast fared against the PS2.As for Sega dividing its forces,it did that when it was advertising the Genesis,32x and the Saturn.

I checked Wiki, too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Master_System
There was an adapter for the genesis to allow it to play master system games, but the master system WAS a system unto itself. There were a whole bunch of great games for it, like Alex Kidd, Wonder Boy in Monster Land, and the original Outrun. The master system is probably one of the most ignored consoles of all time, but it did exist as its own console, and it did have games.
Also, Wiki isn't the most accurate source out there, but in the case of the article I linked to, I was able to verify that it was true.

Oh yeah, I failed to mention those...how could I forget? I played it when I didnt know what it was, then I had to search a bit to find out what it was and I bought it. I'd say what hooked me was Wang-Tang. He's sweet.

I read a recent question posted on another forum asking if Sony did drop out of the console bussiness, and Sega announced it would come back.Would you consider buying a Sega console again? The possibility was interesting...

I'm fairly certain that ever since the merger, the only hardware Sega is interested in is for arcades.

After replaying Sonic 3 on my PSP (thank you homebrew emulators), I can honestly say that I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the Genesis.
But I'm going to vote for the Game Gear/Nomad. The Nomad was practically a portable Genesis and therefore = WIN, and the Game Gear, for the longest period of time, was my favorite handheld console (Although lack of games with save features, and the pitiful 3 buttons diminished its greatness)

I think Nintendo would be the first one to fall like that if any of them do fall.
Either way its hard to tell how things are going to go. All I know is MS is safe because, we all know why.
