Has anyone picked this up? It's an anthology of stories by different artists, including Range Murata and Yoshito A.B.e. It's 25 bucks...but I couldn't resist Murata and A.B.e in the same book.....

wtf vol 2 is out? goddamn my local borders, guess I'll just have to order it online =/
Oh and an note for anyone living in humid areas, MAKE SURE to keep vol 1 in as dry an area as possible, the glue binding the book is very weak and a single hot day can unbind the pages quickly.

I've been getting Robot as they come out. Good stuff. Definitely worth the money.
@Gasaraki: Are you speaking from experience or from things you've heard? Because I heard that the ones they first printed as promotional items had weak binding but the retail ones had that fixed. Or something like that.

I have ROBOT #1 Domestic, and #2 through #7 Japanese. The domestic one I bought was one of the first pressings, and the thing was put together horribly. After looking through it a total of 2 times, the thing fell into pieces. Humorously enough, the first section to fall out was the 2 page section that I've dubbed the "Pillow Rape" comic, where some girl has this semi-orgasmic experience with her pillows. A few other sections fell out as well. I've heard they fixed the binding issue in later reprints.
Anyway onto ROBOT, I absolutely love them.
I discovered quite possibly my favorite artist from the ROBOT books, Imperial Boy.
I put a page about him on my website:
http://www.otakuwiki.com/index.php/Imperial_Boy
He draws the most incredible background images I've ever seen.
If he ever released an artbook of his background illustrations, I would pay almost any amount of money for it, even over $100.
Here are a couple of Imperial Boy illustrations for the curious.

He had a larger version of this above image on his website at one point, but I don't know if it's there anymore. I can upload it if somebody wants. I've been using this image as my work wallpaper for the last year or so.
Here's another couple goodins:

edit:
Here's a link to the Japanese website which contains information and images for the ROBOT volumes.
http://www.wani.com/robot.php
Last time I checked this site it had no information about Volume 8, but now it has a list of the artists.
edit2:
As sort of a fun trivia fact, there is actually a picture of me in ROBOT #7. Near the back there is a section that talks about when Yoshitoshi ABe went to Dallas, TX for AnimeFEST. There are a few pictures of the convention, and I'm in one of them :P

Does he have any artbooks? I might save up money for one this summer.

Not that I know of. In Comic Artists Asia it says he sold digital prints through "IPM Art Shop" in 2002, but google searches turn up empty for such a site.
Looks like ROBOT #8 has more Imperial Boy in it, yay. Unfortunately volume 7 seemed to focus a lot on his human artwork, which I don't find nearly as impressive as his cityscapes. His people drawings look.... well they're kind of weird..

At a gallery downtown and at Kinokuniya they sell the Japanese volumes, and I later discovered the English ones at the Borders nearby and started getting them. Some nice writing and art. I also especially like Imperial boy's work. That, Haccan's fairy tales, Miggy's world of light and prismic shadows, ... Cute, elegant, gruesome, whatever charm you want, it wafts from the pages like glowing sunshine...or mysterious stains on the back of an old book of poems.

I know all about Kinokuniya. It´s right near the Nintendo store and B&N, right?
Anyway, I got 3 today. I already can´t wait for 4.

As a small update, no more Robot volumes will be released in the US due to licensing issues. Weak, but there's always the internet or bookstores specializing in imports.

You´re kidding. WHAT? ARE YOU SERIOUS? You just ruined my day, Axl. I could just go to Kinkuniya and get it, but I want it IN ENGLISH.

I gave up on the domestic releases because the 2nd one took nearly a year to come out after the first one. I have 1 through 8 Japanese versions and I'll continue to collect them until they're done. ^__^

Did you ever go to Yoshitaka Amano's installation in Downtown Dallas? He had some awesome one off original pieces as well as the Final Fantasy prints he was selling for awhile.

I'm such an artwork nut, but something about Amano's style just doesn't work for me. I appreciate his style, yet I really dislike it. One of my friends is a huge fan however, and he would have killed to know about that.

This was way back in 1997, and he's coming back for another installation next year.

I'm looking for the email right now. It's going to be held in the W at Victory Plaza. The last one was held near the Book Depository.

Just received ROBOT #10 in the mail a couple weeks ago. I'm disappointed the Imperial Boy section is really small, but then again it usually is. The Range Murata section is incredible.
