Anyone else collecting this? I highly recommend it to those who like guns, espionage, and overall badassedness.

In the first story, Saddam Hussein is a character. The U.S President looks very much like Bill Clinton, but is not referred to other than "Mr. President". This is in the Supergun story, which was written in '97.

Hit and Run, the second story in the first volume is really good and exemplary of the legacy of Golgo 13.

It seems there will be 13 volumes of this manga, and Viz is picking out various stories from 200(?) different G13 manga by Takao Saito. The info dossiers on Golgo 13 in the back are pretty damn cool. I hope if the 13 volumes do well, Viz will consider releasing at least another 13 volumes.

Overall, this has to be one of the coolest manga I have read. Golgo 13 has to be one of the baddest anime and manga characters ever.

Man you and I are really into Golgo 13. I think we are the only 2 fans in North America. I have volume 1+2 so far and I love it. The manga is really cool because of the set up of the stories. Heck some of the stories barley have Duke Togo in them at all but the political inrigue and drama makes it work. I cant wait for the rest. I did read the Viz ones years ago but these are much nicer in the small book format.

What's being released by Viz now are the best of golgo 13 volumes that came out in japan, hence why there are only 13 volumes. That and golgo 13 may not sell highly to release even close to 200+ volumes.

G 13 probably wouldn't even sell 50 volumes in america, but I am hoping the first 13 sell well enough for Viz to consider another 13.
It seems the stories picked for the stateside release sometimes are picked because of historical reference, or an american city reference. In the first story in manga #1, it is Iraq, Saddam Hussein, and a obivous Bill Clinton as President. In story 2, manga #1, it is San Francisco. I have yet to read manga #2, but from reading the description on the back, story one deals with Tinnamen (sp) square and the massacre there by the Chinese government, although it deals with Golgo who is contracted to kill someone in the square, which are easy historical references for an American reader.

I enjoy how little of Duke Togo is in the stories, because Duke does the dirty work.
Hisoka is another fan of Golgo 13. I think Golgo 13 is a niche manga and anime, and is not known or liked by most manga fans. G 13 also is extremely mature, which may turn off some, but I love it!

I'm interested in it, but I'm collecting too many series as it is (nearly 40) so I'm going to wait until some are finished.

As good as the Golgo stories are, the File 13 dossiers on Golgo in the back really grab my attention.

In other words, this is just a "best of" release featuring more recent material. Is that right?

Also, FYI, Golgo 13 has the honor of being Japan's longest running manga, having been made since the 1960's ("Kochi-Kame" is the second longest). The weird thing is, while it's still serialized in one of the "Big Comics" magazines by Shogakukan, the GNs are being published by a separate company (I forget which one).

Its got stories from all over the place. So far they have been from 70's,80's and 90's.

I dream of one day being able to watch a long, well wrought Golgo 13 OVA series....like Legend of the Galactic Heroes proportions.

The NES game rocked hard as well.

If I ever get into manga I'll surely pick up this release.

I've been a fan of G13 since the NES games, also (Mafat Conspiracy, woohoo! One of the BEST NES games ever.) but I can't find the manga anywhere. Not even on the internet.

Is it still being released?? I have vol. 1 and 2 (Tianenmen Square story = coolness) but I'm lost as to where to find 3.
