With the popularity of the new Ah! My Goddess television series and the resurgence of previous DVD's from this anime series I'm curious why no one has licensed the second season of You're Under Arrest.

AnimEigo, while they did fans a huge favor by licensing and producing the first season of 51 episodes (four OVA episodes and 46 episodes of the first season), the OVA special that ended the first season and giving ADV Films production of the YUA movie and the Mini Specials I'm curious why no one has come forth to license and release the second season of this hit series.

I think it all comes down to how well the first series sold. I look around on this forum and other places and there is definitely a lack of YUR discussion. Add in the fact that the first series costs around $200 at the cheapest is another factor. I'd love to see the second season get released. I'm a fan of YUR and it's very deserving of a completed DVD release.

I can understand that but the individual DVD's are on sale all of the time for about $15-20. I was lucky enough and purchased all four boxed sets for about $225. Just wish AnimEigo would release the second season with the voice actors they used for the first season episodes. I'm hoping that some company grabs the license for the second season.

Just because no one discusses the series doens't mean that there isn't any interest for it.

AnimEigo isn't the kind of company that really does a lot;) They arn't that active as other companies of course so I wouldn't wait for them to do anything.

ADV could get the 2nd season, they released the movie & mini special. They even used the same dub cast which was great. However if they got the 2nd season I don't think they'd get the same cast again, I don't think that dub company or the VA's are even dubbing anime anymore. Its a shame, they havn't done a lot of dubs but they were one of the best.

It's a good indication, isnt't it? I would think so. A good amount of people who are interested were probably scared off by the AnimEigo prices. $200+ is considered way too much for lots of people to spend on only part of a series. The market has changed. A second season isn't going to be licensed if the first series didn't do well enough. I don't have any proof that it didn't do well, but I can only imagine.

I would agree that ADV at this point would be the most likely to release it.

Coastal Sound STudios handled the work done on the YUA TV DVD's and while Coastal Sound Studios closed operations they reopened as Phoenix Sound somewhere, I don't have the address on me but I have it posted on my site. As as the VA for Miyuki is concerned, I knjow she's still active with appearing on various television shows.

I had emailed ADV Films about this fact and I don't think they have plans for getting the second season. As far as AnimEigo goes, they used to do a lot of anime but they don't really make a lot of money off the anime venture and they produce mostly live action samurai films, which don't interest me at all. I'd really like to see nimEigo get back into the business of anime again. All they do now is re-release their previous released titles to DVD and then only sporadically.

With the ending of their Urusei Yatsura series I doubt they'll be getting back into anime. I think it's a crime that they still name their site as strill being in the anime business when they really aren't. It would be nice if someone licensed the second season but I think it would be a toss up between ADV Films and Media Blasters if anyone did grab the license.

You lost me. Just because a distributor hasn't been licensing new titles doesn't mean that aren't still in business. They're making good use of what they do have. There is a new Oh My Goddess! Collecters Edition coming out really soon as well as the last few volumes of Urusei Yatsura. They also somewhat recently re-released Kimagure Orange Road and the Bubblegum Crisis OVA. I wish they had more money. They are by far one of the best companies out there and you can just sense their passion for anime and the business. So what's a crime? Just like individual people, companies have money issue. Losing the license to Macross was a pretty big blow as well.

It wasn't that I was trying to lose anyone with my post. I just think that ANimEigo made the wrong decision in getting out of the business for acquiring new anime titles. While the live action licensing has been more profitable for AnimEigo it would have been nice if they tried to acquire new anime titles that are more for the young adults and not kiddie anime titles like Pokemon and Yu Gi Oh.

The one thing I've been looking for is that wonderful song that appears on Episode 23, The Virgin Road song, the English version. I'm just curious why it was never released on a soundtrack CD.

I really want to see the Bubblegum Crisis OVA remastered set. Was the Japanese audio improved in any way? Would be so cool to have that in 5.1 audio.

The audio is still 2.0 on both tracks. One good point about the re-release is that it isn't ultra ugly like the first set that I have. It's all pink and glitterly... :x

I, for one, bought the YUA series. $150 (or thereabouts) well spent.

Well, let's just say that I ended paying a pretty penny for my collection. Three of the sets I bought at Borders at Full Price before I realized that I could have ordered them through Best Buy. The fourth set I purchased through eBay for around $50. While I ended up spending $250 for the DVD's I don't complain about it. I really enjoy the DVD's and I wouldn't part with them for anything ... unless they released them to HD-DVD. :P

So, does anyone hope that the second season is going to get licensed eventually?

Its actually entirely possible ADV already has it. For whatever reason (I have my theories) ADV recently only announced Kono Minikuku mo Utsukushii Sekai 3 months before their first release of it. Someone could very well be sitting on it and be more focused on other, more urgent projects.
