Wow, it's been a while since I've been here (again). Looking around, I notice that the constructive crit corner seems to be building back up strength again. This is nice, this is how I first knew ANforums ^_^ Unfortunately, tonight, I simply have finished pieces to show ya, lol... maybe next time, depending on how this goes, I'll post some W.I.Ps for ya to see!
Picture 1: Commission for m'friend SpasticMouse for website:

Picture 2: Fanart for Jubei-Chan, secret of the Lovely Eyepatch! *Edit* Fixed her upper calf (left one) to make it fuller than it was previously, thanks to a friends keen eyes ^_^

Question to ya guys: Here in NORTH CAROLINA, Animazement 2006 Takes place at the end of this week? Anyone plan to be attending there? I plan to be selling prints and Commissions for the first time at a convention there, so if anyone is going to be there, please stop by! XD

AnimeNation will be there! Stop by our booth and say "hi!"
I always appreciate good Jubei art. Great job! Not much to crit on that, nor the first image. ^_~

Ah man, Jubei-Chan rocks so hard. I love it.
w00t, awesome! I just started watching parts of it again, and I had to do art, it's just so great! Glad ya enjoyed the show and m'art ^_^
nice, you've gotten much better since the last time i saw your drawings
Now that's always encouraging to hear! (pushes aside crappy sketches) Oh, those? Shhh, pay no attention to them! XD Remind me to pay more attention to your sexy "boobified" pics next I'm on DA, lol. I had a manage on my gallery for a while... then one guy posted like 20 images at once.. and that was overwhelming.....
Alright! Jubei-chan fan art is so rare.
Ain't it though? While looking for references for this, I saw my first negative reviews for the series... most of it is positive acclaim for it, it's such a fun series! I'd love to do some more fanarts for it too... I've covered the "-chan", now I need to cover the "Jubei"... XD

Ahhh, always an honor to hear from our overseers XD -bow-
Ahhhh, I'll definately have to stop on by... I remember the Miami Guns Premiere from a bit back... That was so fun to sit in on! A great show to enjoy with con-goers, that was.
 Glad ya enjoyed the pieces too ^_^ It, and Spasticmouse where great images to work on (and my first cel-shadings in months).

Thanks to ya all ^_^ Animazement starts tomorrow, so I'll see ya guys after the con!!

Bah, at Animazement, I got so caught up with selling and self-promotion, I didn't get a chance to do ANYTHING else besides play A few rounds of Melty Blood! (Didn't even see cosplay... GAH!) T_T At any rate, it was a great experience. I figure I might as well show ya guys a few more pieces I've made for commissions and at the Con since then:
----------

Fanart Commission of Lucretia: From Suikoden 5 -Approved by client-
----------

Disney Related Commission: Shego of "Kim Possible" turned into a "Sprite-kin"!
-approved by client-
----------

A piece of Naruto Fanart made during Animazement to respond to the "You don't have any Naruto art!" comments.
-Approved by... wait, this wasn't a commish! xD-
----------
The Naruto one is my least fav linewise, though I like Kakashi in the pic. :) Anywho... Enjoy! (I hope XD)

Thanks Shin! Haha, it's always great when our returns cross paths; how have you been as of late?
Lets see if I have anything new to show here soon... too many of my works have been going direct to -final- after client approval, so I never have any "W.I.P" art to show ya guys! Think it's time for me to do some more personal SNK fanarts...

Hey, thanks a lot Katsuma! I have a hard time seeing my OWN progress sometimes, so if someone else sees it... rock on! XD
Well, here's just a W.I.P, everyone... since there are a few of you here who like to crit, I'll post this and let ya run on with it:) Crits I've gotten so far at other sites have been to pronounce her left side (her direction) shoulder blade more, and the fact that the shoes might not be big enough for her feet? SO... yeah... have fun, and tell me what you think!
http://www.sabworks.com/critique/Krystinavgfgpre.jpg
Description of pic (Lifted from other places I posted it...):
So, anywho, you've seen this character here, Krystina, a few times throughout my galleries. Here I've basically got her dressed up with a visual collage of video game references!
Hat: A Visor-Style Version of Mario's Hat (With a "K" rather than an "M")
Left hand Glove: Kyo Kusanagi's Glove (King of Fighters Fame)
Shirt: Blue Mary's Shirt (King of Fighters and Fatal Fury Fame) with an SNK logo for fun.
Right hand glove: Mario/Sonic style "rimmed end" glove.
Controllers in hands: A Neo Geo Controller, and a Sega Genesis one.
Jacket around waist: Probably gonna end up as Terry Bogard's Bomber jacket from Mark of the Wolves.
Pants: Errr... nothing ATM. Maybe I'll add something to them later.. I just like ripped pants...
Shoes: Sonic the hedgehogs shoes, made into heels! And with little "Rings" on the end, just as sonic collects.
ANYWHO, I plan to Digitally ink, and then color this. but before I do that, I figured I'd let you guys attack it first with your ideas and attentive eyes. Note that Krystina is suppose to have somewhat big hips overall, and fairly humble breast size. You can see her afro-puff hair in the back, and a perm'd (hair extention?) bang hangs out in front of her face, under her uplifted arm.

Blanket-THANKS to everyone who has looked and commented and such!
shin_gyokakuran: Hehe, I love to over-complicate my linearts generally, but knowing this was going to photoshop and compu-inks, I decided to leave it more bare... and give the colors a chance to do some definition! I'm on the way there, as W.I.P 2 hopefully shows! Thanks, for here and for on MR! XD
Tidusauron12: Yeah, it has been a while, eh? I haven't been on AIM much... been on MSN lately... but we'll talk about that somewhere else, lol. Glad you can see some improvements ^_^
Kenshin X: You make it sound like common sense! And maybe it is... Mentally, I was trying to go for the deftly-twisted bodies I see models and dynamic art have... but I figure I went about it the wrong way. Only one other artist has directly mentioned that, though... so most people must not see it as odd either, kinda suprising. Anywho, as you can see in the W.I.P below, thanks to comments like yours, I'm redoing her lower half! Does this look better to ya?
soulreaper: Le w00t, thanks soulreaper :) I'll try to keep beinging ya good stuffs to see ^_^
----------
Well, here's the W.I.P at stage... 2.. or... 3.. something! I'm gonna digitally ink the whole thing (WITH A MOUSE!) so... here are some digital inks with the path tool, colors/shadows/highlights with CS2's wonderful flow and opacity options with brushes, and big, ugly red lines that show where I'm plotting changes, based on the comments I've got from friends and people of various art communities.

kiyomi - thanks ya! Haha, I like the "SAB-Casan", sounds like like a title or something that way... ;)
MirKz - Why can't I draw as good as that ALL the time? XD Better yet, why can't I draw BETTER! ;) Anywho, Yay, she wins a "Kawaii"!! -does a victory dance- And you're getting better all the time, so fret not!
shin_gyokakuran - Well, if you want one, I'll be happy to make a T-shirt for ya and sell it to you...! Hehe. Heck, I might just do that anywho, I already plan to at least make this into a print or something, once I finish the background...
-----------------------------
And hey, lookie, I finally finished the char art! After re-drawing the legs and controller cords about 3 times each, with you guys helpful critiques, here, and on MangaRevolution (which is CLOSING! DOH!) and Deviantart, I now give you the preliminary final: Video Game Girl Krystina: character work: Complete!

kiyomi - -w00t- Thanks ya much ^_^ Continually encouraging, I can always use such kind words! -thanks ya-
Tidusauron12 - N... Never stop? But I wanna do other things, too! LoL. But seriously, thanks man! ^_^
Sam Lee - Aye aye! I'm really gonna miss MR, but with Des forum, maybe I'll be able to balance being here better than I have in recent months... Oh, and your Avvie is cute, lol. Bah, blast my glasses-weakness! She makes me expect inquisitive, deep answers, so you have to make sure to live up to that! -nodnod-
MirKz - I still feel so weak in overall consistency, though, lol... So much need for practice, at times, I only feel half as accomplished as you make me sound, lol.
tickled_pink - A well appreciated comment, thanks ya much! ^_^ And yes, after all the redrawings, almost 50% of the picture was really "Designed" on the computer, but it started off as a pencil drawing. And yes, it's paths, as you surmised. Even if I get a tablet, now... I still might prefer this method. Your "by-hand" lines are so nice and clean anywho, so you're not missing too much from not doing this on computer! Just a bit of ease-of-changing/modification, if ya need it.
Suki - But Suki, I've been making lame half-come-backs for ages, now! XD Thanks ya much for the kind words, I just have to make sure to keep riding this momentum up, and not get bogged down with silly internal conflicts... already contemplating what to do next!
Now to figure out what's next... hmmmm....
--- Thank you all! ---

The arm on the left bothers me...the hand seems painfully twisted the wrong way.
However, I remember someone telling me one of my drawings had a foot twisted the wrong way. My answer: "Yeah, but that's how I wanted it." So I guess Sab-Ca will undoubtedly give me the same answer. :)
Looking good, Sab-Ca.
(Btw, my drawing that you painted is now up in my gallery at the website. At some point in the future I'm also going to try to make room and put your drawing with my colors up in the same gallery.)

Jiyuu: Thanks for the kind words ^_^ I can't even imagine what gioconda is ATM (The closest thing that comes to mind is Conte...) so I envy the fact you can use something that I'm not even sure I've heard of! ;)
Skylark: Been a while since I've seen YOU here, and perfect time to Necro this thread, as I now have stuff to post! lol. The hand to our left (her right hand, right?).... yeah, both of her hands leave one to wonder if they'd perfectly go that way. I can succede in doing both hand motions/positions, but I also thought about wheither they'd be ones she could reasonably end up in. I came to the conclusion... sure, it's possible, and no other motion I could come up with fit the way I wanted the controller cords to trail, so thus... viola!
I remember seeing your pencils with my colors up on your site before, I think, so good to hear your colors to my pencils will be there, too ^_^ I've had them both up on SABworks.com (http://www.sabworks.com) since I redesigned that site.

MirKz: Must keep up the creativity bandwagon! XD I felt so silly with the presentation of this one... I wanted to go for some kinda angle or something with it... but from the direct side seemed to be the best way, and also seemed to be the strongest composition. Thanks as always, MirKz!
Shin_gyokakuran: Surrealism! XD Much better termanology than "That thing they do in alot of anime opening, like in Magic Knight Rayearth 2!" lol. Yeah, yeah, lets go with what you said! LoL. Always good to see ya, Shin.
Anime_Empress: ....And gone again! LoL. It's so hard to keep up with multiple forums and such... but I know you, or all people, know how hard it can be to keep up with such things. Oh, I wonder if you've seen Tube's pic of you yet... XD Make sure to check out Anotha, if you haven't yet! ^_^

Might as well post this here, while I'm at it:
http://www.sabworks.com/quick/millymeryl002.jpg
Workin on a commission starring Milly and Meryl from Trigun, and thus, I decided I needed to give them a bit of study and development before attempting the real thing. Which also gave me an excuse to work on my pencil shading skillz. Next time (hopefully), you'll either be seeing more sketches towards other things, a long dead picture, now completed, or the finals of this Trigun-related Commish! So, one way of the other, stay tuned!
.... Milly is a hard girl to draw.

Well, I really wish I knew more about this series--that way I could tell you if you 'captured' the characters well or not. But, just going off of the sketch, I'll try my best to comment and critique ^_^.
The individual little heads down in the bottom left corner are pretty cute! I especially like the 'ehhhh' face (the one closest to edge of the corner). That one has a lot of emotion in it--and you can really see what the character is feeling!
For the two detailed character sketches on the right side, I think you did a good job shading--especially around the bust area of the..um...bigger of the two girls.
However, I think that the volume you created through your (very nice) shading of her chest is lost as you look down and see the flatness of her hips and legs. Right now, it looks as if a 3 dimensional torso was placed on a 2 dimensional lower half. I think that if you went back and added some volume (shading around the hips and legs to give it 'depth' and 'weight') to her lower half, she would look more put together and natural.
Both of the girl's faces are slightly off (biased lines of the face--especially in the eye area), but they are well done regardless. You have very strong, confident lines in your art work--and I really like that about your drawings. Even if things are slightly off, the lines are still confident--and that shows you are not afraid to go 'dark' and 'bold'. A lot of times, I see line work which is really light--really 'timid looking', and it takes away from the overall look and feel of the work. Your boldness in line work is great--keep it up!! ^_^.

However I'd probably try to shape up the various anatomy and proportion a bit more. Especially their faces.
SAB-CA
September 7th, 2006, 12:19 PM
Shiroiyuki: First of all, thanks much for the in depth commentary! Generally, the only time I see comments of such depth.. are my own, lol. Anywho. Yeah, the pants on Milly (the big girl) are kinda flat looking compared to her body, eh? Business style pants like this confuse me... They're so fine cut, and don't really adhere to the leg shape at all... I tried adding some wrinkles to them, through shades (which I normally DON'T do, so this was new)... and it still seems I failed to make them look really good, lol. I'd have to try realising them again, I was looking at SNK's artwork while shading them, so maybe I need to take another look...
And the dreaded "off" faces, lol. Yeah, this one gets to me. At first, I figured it was because I often drew with my head over to the side... which threw off my view slightly. If I set up straight afterwards, I would see that everything was very slightly off (but enough to notice). Now, since I know this, I still try to lay out the faces... but the chin/cheek area still seems to come out "off" more often than not. -- And with the eyes! Oy. When 3/4ths a view, my foreshortening seems to often come out wrong, and when a straight on view, once side often comes up larger than the other... -eyes spin-
ALL stuff I really need to get out of my system... you pull off those things so well in your work, one of the reasons I like your art!
And glad ya like m'line art, BTW, Confident, BOLD lines are a fav of mine, though at times, I feel they're almost an enemy of mine too... but I'l stop ranting here. Thanks for the thought-provoking comments!
Malchiel: First off, thanks ^_^ Now you interest me; in this case, what would you do to the faces, given it's a cell-shaded anime thing? If I was going to do anything, it'd probably be to add more depth with more shape-suggestive shading, and maybe tighten up some of the forms on the limbs. Otherwise... cel-shading often does have simplier lineart with complexity added with colors, and my biggest personal gripe with this one, is that the lines are less emotive than I'd like them to be, in a perfect world.
In the real world, it's a commission, and I ended up spending more time than the money suggested I should, lol. One enjoyable thing about commissions to me is trying to figure out how much work truly seperates a 10, 20, or 40 dollar work... I get a bit better at gauging it with each one...

The first picture with a mouse , it might just be me but the line that the pencil drew is off, it is suposed to be thicker where it writes, after seeing the picture it looks that it wrote on the paper and on the midair, but when looking into the line it looks that only mid air was written on, if tha was really the onriginal idea i dont understand the purpose of paper then, but if it wasnt, then you shouldnt make the line thiner between paper and that sign.
No offence, just saying what on my mind , keep up working ;)

September 14th, 2006, 08:46 PM
shin_gyokakuran: Now how would Milly feel if she heard you say that! XD How indeed... O well, at least you can see her feminine charms more in this next pic...
Akro: I'm glad you can see improvements! I still remember many of those comments, now from years ago... and hey, I've even finished this picture now, to boot! lol. Thanks, Akro.
Animas: Wow, you took that serious and deeply! What you see on the pic.. it's purpose is more just to look cool, than to be 100% sensible, lol. The purpose of the paper and line and whatnot is that the person the image was done for, is a Writer. The idea in my mind was that he was dramatically crossing a T, or something. The change in width in the line he writes in the air is simply to suggest depth to the pic. Wider line is closer and the point of impact, skinnier where it's further away. So thus, a dynamic element! Hope that answers your question somewhat!

So, all that sketching of Milly and Meryl lead up to this!
A commission for Jkrolak. (http://jkrolak.deviantart.com)
He wanted Milly and Meryl (Of Trigun fame, for the 10 of you who don't know! ;) ) to be presented as centuars, after the unfortunate accident of falling into an old genetic research lab in one of the Ruined plants that crashed onto the planet Gunsmoke.
Why Centuars? Ask him! lol. I just draw it, people...
Text Link: (It's an 11 in by 11 in Pic!)
Milly and Meryl: Centuars (http://www.sabworks.com/commissions/milly&meryl_centuar_public02.jpg)
Note that this pic contains a lot of first/rarities for me...
- First time inking such freakin skinny lines (done digitally). You know I normally like bolder, more emotive lines...
- First time drawing Centuars! Or is that Centaurs? I found google search pics under BOTH names! lol.
- First time I've done any little things I'd kinda consider fanservicey... (And no, I don't plan to make this a trend! "Oh no, braw strap!" -feels pervy-)
- First and last time I spend this much time on a commish that doesn't pay more... lol. I spent a huge amount of time on this one!
-First time I've drawn Kuroneko! YAY! The only cat I like!
...I leave the rest.. to you!

So.... thanks in advanced, guys, hope ya enjoy!
