Press Release (http://www.animeondvd.com/news/pr.php?pr_view=714) found on AoD.

Titles licensed to FUNimation include Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO), Marmalade Boy, Initial D and others. FUNimation plans to rework these titles with new packaging, new pricing and new configurations. The first product to release from this agreement is Street Fury Remixed, which will street on June 27 at retailers nationwide.Sounds good to me, although the only thing from Tokyopop that I'm still collecting is Marmalade Boy, and I think I'll just get the Tokyopop sets. I really like what Tokyopop did with these sets. Really interested in what else they got from Tokyopop.

Definitely interesting news. I'm curious as to what they're going to do for GTO. Might have to get that.

I'm so glad I waited on GTO and Marmalade Boy now .
Now if only they let Funimation release Groove Adventure Rave uncut.

I agree wholeheartedly. GAR got a terrible release/introduction to R1. I missed GTO back when it was all the rage and hadn't gotten around to marmalade or the likes of brigadoon yet. Here's hoping this goes well.

*Sees vision of uncut Groove Adventure Rave* I'm happy about this because TP isn't a very good anime distributor in the first place.

I've bought 2 of the 4 Marmalade Boy Ultimate Sets. I can't afford to finish it off then buy them again >_<;

Actually, I think that this will be a good thing for some of the TokyoPop Marmalade Boy DVDs, they'll probably go on sale trying to liquidate the remaining stock. And I'm glad I've waited for them, I hope FUNimation will release a cheaper set as well.

So does "new configurations" mean we'll finally get an uncut/unaltered Initial D release?

I took new configurations to mean they're going to break things down differently (ex - the MB sets will now either be singles, two box sets, or one massive collection), not that they're going to do any work on the series. But who knows what the deal actually entails. Though until someone says differently, I'm just going to assume Funi is the new distributor only, and will just be releasing the finished product in new packaging at more retailers than TP initially hit.

This makes me glad I've waited for Marmalade Boy. I was never really interested in the rest of TokyoPop's titles.

Wait, wasn't Vampire Princess Miyu (TV) a TokyoPop title? Maybe they'll re-release that as well.

That would be correct.

Sorting out GTO and Initial D seem like interesting prospects......

Actually the Initial D dvds by tokyopop is uncut! They give you 2 versions to choose from, one that has all the uncut video, music, japanese audio with optional english subs, and finally a very cut video, audio, english dub. (not the original opening, ending, music, names,) Just like the DragonBall dvds that Funimation is putting out. You have 2 completely diffirent versions to choose from.

It's understandable because the little kids are buying this stuff mostly.

Now back to the subject

I'd love to buy some of TKP titles if Funimation bought the rights but I hope they come in thin packs because am running out of space.

I wouldn't mind getting Marmalade Boy. People have always commented that the original manga was a great shoujo romance/drama series; a personal theme in stories I have always enjoyed. It would be interesting what the anime is like. I would highly consider this in the future. The rest of the TokyoPop titles FUNimation is going to release really don't interest me.

TokyoPop also farked with the subtitles to tone down the teenage prostitute (and thus kinda screwed up a plot point if you don't they did it). It's minor compared to what they did to the dub and the manga, but still enough to keep someone like me away from the release. I expect accuracy in translation. Not watered down dialog to protect my innocent young soul from being corrupted.

Well crap. I've already bought the five disc set, and vol 6. Kinda pisses me off really, since I'm already into the series, and the current discs are only $12. I'm just too impatient to wait and see what Funimation does to the series. I guess I'll just keep buying the Tokyopop release. (I watch the sub anyway).

^I don't really think there's any reason to believe Funi's going to do anything to the series, other than distribute them. TokyoPop is still the R1 license holder for all these series, they just need a new distributor because their old one is going under (I believe this is what I read). This doesn't appear to be like the situation with Slayers, where Funi is the new license holder and is thus making some improvements before releasing it under their label. It's more like Toei and Geneon - one big name doing the distribution for another. Granted, we don't have any details, so I'm just speculating. But until Funi actually comes out and says they're making changes to more than just the packaging and pricing...

^ bumping an old thread. Any news on when these titles will be out yet? I didn't get an answer on the Funi Rep thread.

I've not heard a thing been waiting on these to pick up Marmalade Boy and GTO.

I'm kind of getting a little worried since the Initial D set was postponed in November to a later non announced yet date.

It seems every time anyone ask anyone at Funimation they get no real answer.

Yes I also want Marmalade Boy. I know many people are waiting for GTO, and Initial D as well.

Hopefully that delay was to fix some things. I just wish we could be informed on whats going on.

Yeah, I was going to wait for FUNi to re-release Marmalade Boy, but I just finished the first Tokyopop set and I don't think I can wait any longer. I'm very hooked on the series. TP did a fine job with what I saw, so I'm just going to get the rest of the TP sets while they're still around.

So, no word at all on Marmalade Boy? I've been waiting and waiting, but unless I hear something soon I'm just going to buy the last 2 sets.

I seem to remember recently hearing that Saint Tail will be one of these titles. That one I'd really like to try.

Going back to Inital D, I found this listing (http://www.aaaanime.com/dvds.asp?view=item&code=FN08640) at AAA Anime. Perhaps FUNimation is finally ready to release the first set.
