I downloaded it yesterday. The high-quality version link didn't work, so I was waiting to post a thread. If you want my comments:

1) It's not a 'trailer'. A trailer, as I pointed out in the other thread, is a carefully scripted storyboard that compresses the attractive points of a story into a ~minute long clip. What you have is a clip that combines a model test, a tiny amount of model animation (the door), a POV test and a test to determine whether you can add a sound track. All minimally successful, but not a trailer at all.

2) Nothing in your clip demonstrates your ability to combine live action with CG. As I said in the other thread, a person in street clothes walking in front of a window with a CG landscape outside would accomplish this (or anything containing similar elements). Once again I'll ask: what have you done to prove this concept? Please post that test.

3) The clip ends with someone (I assume you) badly voicing Shinji over an animation clip from the show. You had originally said you were using no animation from the show. Once again, you have blatantly lied.

4) The moment GAINAX sees their name/logo in that clip, you will be sued. Ask your legal friend why. Not that he'll know, but at least it'll give him something to do since you clearly haven't consulted him in a while.

5) I notice that Eva Rosen's name has mysteriously disappeared from any and all writing credits. Interesting how fast you dropped that hot potato once the lie was discovered, innit?

That's all I have to say. Bravo. You've demonstrated the ability to stick other peoples' models into video. You haven't demonstrated the ability to pull off this project at all. I'm not being negative, that's an objective evaluation.

Also - please don't use my name as a claimed inspiration source if you're not going to do what I request. I requested that you demonstrate that this wasn't a hoax. You haven't done that. I requested that you show the other forms of test to indicate that you know how to combine CG and live action (the Captain Picard example in the previous thread) - you haven't done that. You haven't done a lot of things you'd have to have done if this was legit.

Now - before THIS thread turns into a 30+ page long flame fest with no purpose, why don't you just go away and do what we all asked you to do in the previous thread? Repeatedly. Incessantly. There is no purpose served by you returning to AN as a punching bag until you're willing to put in some kind of effort on this project.

ahaha Oh desslock, desslock desslock. Please carefully read my posts on the site and any other places before you post. That is NOT the trailer and will not be a clip either. It is there for public veiwing but the Purpose of that clip was to point out a visual of the script I have thrown togather with my head 3D Artist which will help point out the events in which the trailer will take place. I am sorry avout the large version not working, I will get that back on in a little bit.

The forums are there to discuss anything you want.
The Clip You saw did not have anyones voice overs at all. The Shinji clip at the end is showing the exact scene that we are using and everymotion for the real trailer. The movie "Again" is not going to be using any of the original animation.

Thank You.

We have the roughdraft for the tailer doene and It Shows what and where things will go and which events take place when. It is nothing compared to the full trailer. The music isthe right music but there are alot of things to be done.

Sorry, i believe you said trailor. Maybe you're just handicapped, like when you stole those pictures and said they were yours.

Ok There is no point in posting if you are not going to read my posts. the Spanish 3D site Like I have mentioned twice already has made the Evangelion and has added new texture and updated detail. The model is being sold to us "Again I am repeating myself which is irritating" for $500.00 USD.

Now please read my posts carefully before you look at pictures and say something stupid.

I stole no pictures at all. Every one of those pictures you cannot find anywhere else. The only picture there that isn't ours is the CCBC.it/3D artists ppicture of the Evangelion. I am not repeating myself again but I find myself doing it once again.

The clip shown was not the Trailer. It was the "ROUGH DRAFT" of the trailer to show in placement in which objects of events will take place.

I am sorry you don' understand my English. I am American. If you are from a differnt country and cannot read my posts please let me know on the forums and I will translate for you.

Yes good work. THAT is the eva that is being sold to us from CCBC.it/3d You have brung it up alot. Its like I say hey this is called a car and then you would come up and say no your rong its a car! And thien I say Its a car I know I just said that and then you would restate it again yes and you found the car here!

I am glad that you like the model and you have taken the time to go and chekc out the site. I have given three links to it already like when I say "The eva model is from CCBC" and when I say that i mean that the EVA Picture model is from CCBC.it/3d Please read my posts.

ahaha Oh desslock, desslock desslock. Please carefully read my posts on the site and any other places before you post. That is NOT the trailer and will not be a clip either.
You utterly ignore 30+ pages of feedback and specific requests, and you have the nerve to tell someone on this forum to carefully read YOUR posts? I take it back, you've just shown your first directorial trait: blind arrogance.

From your site: Our 3D Artist (Not the CG Artists) has put togather a roughdraft of our trailer and it is perfect! You can download it here!

Okay. Let's assume that it's no longer a 'rough draft' - say the scene is fully flushed out. Let's assume it's 100% generated at full detail, it has an accompanying voice over and live action spliced in, the right score - the whole nine yards. Would it then be a trailer?

No.

I put that word in it's own paragraph hoping I might be able to keep your attention for the 24 bits it took to represent the truth.

Why is that the truth? Think back on the 30+ pages of feedback you received and maybe you'll find your answers. You ain't the only one who's tired of talking to a brick wall, kid.

"Oh, but Desslock - I totally know what's gonna happen here."

Fine. Prove it. Post your storyboards. Post your script for the trailer voice over. Post some kind of proof that this is a real project and that you've actually put some work into something other than a website.

Ah, but there's a good excuse, I'm sure. Absolutely. There's always an excuse WHY you haven't got any of the preparatory work you'd need to make this work. It couldn't POSSIBLY be expected that you'd have any of that stuff lying around. What am I thinking?

What is it you hope to accomplish by standing up to be the AN punching bag? Why would you stand up to be flamed until you at least have a tiny amount to show that this might not be a badly executed hoax? I don't get your motives, and I don't care about them. I simply wish you well in court, because I've run out of any sympathetic notions of you receiving any other fate.

Edit: I sent them an email in the universal language of Pronsanese. I asume if they can talk to Shinji, they can talk to Prons.

Yes you are correct Tenou.

If we are to go at this it is in a fun environment.
Yes, Go Ahead and email the 3D and CG artists at CCBC.it and they will tell you that they are selling us this model. I am working on the money and may have it in a week hopefully.
Leader Desslock. I have told you that I have a script for the trailer. Yes, I call it a trailer.
It is a clip promoting the movie and I am the director and called it a trailer.

If it is not a trailer than I am not sure what to call it.
A promotional clip mabey? You give me a name you think fits and I will change it.
As for showing you the script I didn't think it was a good idea as a director to be releasing all of that information to the public. I have shown you the rough draft mockup of the "Promotional Clip" and isnt' that enough for now?

I will be working with some more things tonight.
Thank You.

Off topic -ignoring.

So here I am I had a discussion with a fan about a week ago. here is the discussion to hold you over for a while.
strobelight_epileptic: Hey.
strobelight_epileptic: You Joshua Pelkala, bro?
strobelight_epileptic: Evangelion movie director?
josh_sg16: hello
josh_sg16: sorry i am back now
josh_sg16: Yes, I am Joshua Pelkala
josh_sg16: Hi, who are you?
strobelight_epileptic: I'm Carl.
strobelight_epileptic: I can't give you a username, but I often surf the EVA live action movie forums. I'm a bit of a lurker, haha. =P
strobelight_epileptic: I can't remember if I registered at one point because I never used it, if ever.
josh_sg16: ok
josh_sg16: So you go around and post in the Eva Live ACtion forums?
josh_sg16: Is that at Trivial Being?
strobelight_epileptic: I don't post. I lurk, remember? :p
strobelight_epileptic: Yeah.
strobelight_epileptic: FofR's site, bro.
josh_sg16: Ok that is cool.
josh_sg16: Well, since your a fan, I will let you see a picture of the evangelion. Its not finished but this is a pic of what it looked like 2 weeks ago. It is getting new textures now.
strobelight_epileptic: Anyway, how's the project going, man?
strobelight_epileptic: Oh, really? Sweet.
josh_sg16: There is a chance you have already seen this picture. It has been provided by ccbc.it/3d (Our Eva Modeler)
josh_sg16: ok
josh_sg16: here is the link, sorry for the wait
josh_sg16: http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/3313/fullimg2yv.jpg
josh_sg16: I love the choice in avatar
josh_sg16: Chuck Noris fan?
strobelight_epileptic: Chuck Norris made me do it.
josh_sg16: Ha.
strobelight_epileptic: 'cause I phear the roundhouse kick, bro.
strobelight_epileptic: I mean, he could be all the way in Alaska.
strobelight_epileptic: And it'd still be enough to incapacitate ten men.
strobelight_epileptic: =P
strobelight_epileptic: That, is one sweet-lookin' EVA.
strobelight_epileptic: You sure you didn't cop that from Weta Workshop? That thing is sweeet.
josh_sg16: hahaWeta Workshop hasnt even started on a model yet.
strobelight_epileptic: I know.
strobelight_epileptic: =P
josh_sg16: No this is made from Weta :P
strobelight_epileptic: So anyway, when do you plan to start filming?
strobelight_epileptic: as in the actual movie, bro.
josh_sg16: well we have to get our camera's in and then we can start shooting some quick scenes and do a few "behind the scenes' Shots for fans and post them on the site but this shouldnt be too much longer.
josh_sg16: Our budget is going to skyrocket next week. now that I am working.
strobelight_epileptic: How old are you, man?
josh_sg16: I am 17.
josh_sg16: Most of the crew are teenagers.
strobelight_epileptic: so you'll get a teenager to play Gendo and Fuyutsuki? :o
josh_sg16: no apsolutely not
josh_sg16: Gendou and Fuyutsuki are a must-Relate Character, they HAVE to look exactly as they do on the show. The basis of Gendous character is a strict mean man/ father
josh_sg16: I can show you a picture of Gendous Actor if you want but Gendous Actor is working on finding a way to make the trip up here for the shoot.
josh_sg16: he is around 35 yrs old and he is almost perfect for the part.
strobelight_epileptic: You're still going to name a Caucasian man Gendou?
josh_sg16: yes
strobelight_epileptic: Because I was wondering, with such cultural differences, how is that going to make sense?
strobelight_epileptic: I'm an Asian guy, man. We're selfish with our names here. :))
strobelight_epileptic: We like to steal western names but when it comes to ours, sorry, Akane's a Japanese name and it'll stay that way, haha.
strobelight_epileptic: Anyway, go on. Just playin', man.
josh_sg16: There is where we fell into problems. In the movie the characters are from the UN and Gendou is a world traveling person. Yes, there parents may be looking american but the culture will still resemble Japan although Tokyo 3 will be american.
strobelight_epileptic: I was wondering why you didn't consider making an adaptation for American actors, because it seems that some may find difficulty relating to Japanese actors played by Americans.
josh_sg16: Throughout the Movie you will definatly see Japanese running around but mostly as a mix. I am trying to make sure that no one looks TOO american or TOO japanese because the more plain anime they look the better
strobelight_epileptic: Furthermore, regardless of culture, the different aspects of each character can still be explored, like Shinji's introvertedness or Aska's hostility.
josh_sg16: An addaption?
strobelight_epileptic: *Asuka
strobelight_epileptic: Like, tell the story in a way that would make cultural sense in terms of its audience and personnel. I was just wondering why you went for pretty much a straight translation from the animated media to live-action.
strobelight_epileptic: I ask out of curiosity, bro.
strobelight_epileptic: That's what I meant by adaptation.
josh_sg16: Yep, GAINAX in Neon Genesis Evangelion completly changed the origanal story of evangelion for the american version of the anime. They have added American talking and actions into it. I want to keep the Origanal Japanese Version but use the Funny interaction and talking with the origanal expression and depth of the Japanese version.
strobelight_epileptic: How'd they change the story?
strobelight_epileptic: I presume more than just "little details".
josh_sg16: They added some different scenes and speech was expressed in a different manner, while in the Japanese version speech was more serious and emotional. The difference is that the American version of speech and communication between the characters was more on an entertainment (Funny) Basis.
strobelight_epileptic: dubbing does have its problems.
strobelight_epileptic: Anyway, let's move from that.
strobelight_epileptic: Who's playing Shinji Ikari?
josh_sg16: Some of the scenes included this - Japanese next to end of series (Shinji and karou were talking in there beds.) In the american version (Shinji and Karou talked in there beds and then Shinji wason top of karou.)
strobelight_epileptic: So you want a homoerotic scene?
strobelight_epileptic: :p
josh_sg16: ok We were looking for some peope in the school and found 5 people. The most look alike couldnt stop laughing and was very immature, the second had some kind of problem and couldnt show up for 3 days and then we didnt hear from him.
strobelight_epileptic: So there's no actor for Shinji yet?
josh_sg16: The third was Interviewd and then tested on a couple of voice checks. Josh Barnard commented on his accent. The accent could be tweeked but his movements could not. He was never able to do it.
josh_sg16: The fourth was almost perfect.
strobelight_epileptic: You're not going to make the guy sound like Spike Spencer, are you?
strobelight_epileptic: Some seem kinda partial to that guy's voice.
josh_sg16: He looked half decent, spoke lines alright and was always availible but he looked at the script and he doesnt like showing emotions on screen, tha is a big part of it. Well we sat down with our crew and had a discussion.
josh_sg16: Jason comments and says "Dude we need to pick someone for sizes so hurry it up", Anythony regarded the same way but he looked at me and said "What do we do now?"
josh_sg16: I looked up one source Talent to make a meeting in Detroit but I was never able to make it and they had to individually email me. We found Misato trying out for Rei!
josh_sg16: Misato is way under our recommended age limit but she looks alot like misato.

josh_sg16: it.
josh_sg16: Barnard segusted this guy.
strobelight_epileptic: Hm.
strobelight_epileptic: You could cast someone like Toji to be black, or Hyuga.
strobelight_epileptic: But me personally, I'd prefer an Asian Rei.
josh_sg16: nah toji has to be white because his character is. We have a guy for toji already but not for hyuga
strobelight_epileptic: The fanboys will squirm in their pants.

strobelight_epileptic: just wondering.
josh_sg16: Exactly
strobelight_epileptic: So you'll be plaing Shinji, I see.
josh_sg16: You are now on the list of people that ask "Why?".
strobelight_epileptic: Enlighten me, bro.
josh_sg16: We are going to shoot the Trailer which will be featuring 2 scenes from the movie and One of them is this telephone booth
josh_sg16: http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/1976/image012ed.jpg\
josh_sg16: http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/1976/image012ed.jpg
josh_sg16: Once that is shot then the background can be fully shaded and lighting generated for use but after that we will know if it will work or not.
josh_sg16: FreePlayMusic.com has given us there music to use on the trailer but once it hits movie then we have to bump up the licecsing pay. That will go up becaue of the distributed diskets.
strobelight_epileptic: So why are you playing Shinji again?
josh_sg16: We haven't found anyone else yet.
strobelight_epileptic: Okay, so you'll play him for the pilot trailer? alright then.
strobelight_epileptic: Speaking of music, who do you plan to score the movie?
strobelight_epileptic: And what kind of soundtrack will you use?
josh_sg16: Yes. Once the Pilot trialer is released then it will be reviewed and we will have suport. If our fans like it then we will move on to the movie with it but if not we will reshoot 7 more scenes with different actors to get the feel going.
josh_sg16: The sound track took some discussing. It must be instrumental.
josh_sg16: The origanal Evangelin songs fit perfectly but they have to be remade into new music. The Cruel Angel Thesis" I am thinking" should be Rock.
strobelight_epileptic: Ahh, like what kind of rock?
strobelight_epileptic: Being a rock musician I'm curious about the soundtrack.
strobelight_epileptic: Especially for a movie such as Evangelion.
josh_sg16: Rock as in heavier drums and alot or guitar. One Base in the backround and a touch up synthesizer.
strobelight_epileptic: Ahh.
strobelight_epileptic: Hm, I think I have a song that might fit that.
strobelight_epileptic: It's instrumental though.
strobelight_epileptic: Wanna hear?
strobelight_epileptic: This is blatant self-advertising, but hell!=P
josh_sg16: Sure why not.
strobelight_epileptic: I recorded the guitars with a ****** multi-fx box, so it sounds kinda thin. Everything is direct though, all bass/guitar is done by me. The synths and drums were programmed.
strobelight_epileptic: How fast is your connection?
josh_sg16: fast? I have High Speed cable
strobelight_epileptic: Ahh. DSL here, buddy.
josh_sg16: ok cool
strobelight_epileptic: So this should go pretty fast. :)
josh_sg16: :D
josh_sg16: I have to work at 7:00 am and its 11:21 pm right now so I can't stay too much longer.
strobelight_epileptic: I'm working on a second song, inspired by Evangelion, but my guitar's tuning system got ****ed up.
josh_sg16: I can tlak for another 10-20 minutes but then I gotta get in bbed.
strobelight_epileptic: I tune down for these heavy songs.
strobelight_epileptic: Okay.
josh_sg16: So you made these yourself?
strobelight_epileptic: Yeah, man.
josh_sg16: Thats exellent.
strobelight_epileptic: I have recordings with a full band, but I don't think they'll be fitting for any movie project.
josh_sg16: can't wait to hear them.
strobelight_epileptic: I'm sending this because I think it might fit, though it wasn't written to be in any production, just as a piece of heavy symphonic music.
josh_sg16: ok
strobelight_epileptic: Ahh, by the way. Do you have pictures of the actors for Misato and Rei?
josh_sg16: Yes and No,Rei will be chosen on the spot when we need her, Misato remember is way under the age limit so Here is her pictures
strobelight_epileptic: How old is she?
strobelight_epileptic: you know she'll have to participate in a sex scene sooner or later. =\
josh_sg16: i think around 16-18
strobelight_epileptic: The fans would kill you otherwise.
strobelight_epileptic: :p
josh_sg16: Yep, thats when Wanda comes in with the makup
strobelight_epileptic: Who's Wanda?

Leader Desslock

Leader Desslock. I have told you that I have a script for the trailer. Yes, I call it a trailer.
It is a clip promoting the movie and I am the director and called it a trailer.

If it is not a trailer than I am not sure what to call it.
A promotional clip mabey? You give me a name you think fits and I will change it.
A theatrical trailer is like a synopsis of the film being previewed. It says, "this is what you can expect from this title." It's an audio/visual version of the text blurb you find on the back of a DVD case. It's a marketing tool, and as such, it is very cleverly crafted to tease a potential audience into seeing the finished work. It has to show enough to look interesting, but still leave enough to the imagination that it leaves the prospective viewer begging for more.

It's the theatrical equivalent of seductive lingerie, in that regard.

What do you have? A test. You have achieved Proof of Concept that you can do the following things:
1. Model a CG world of a given size (even though it's almost empty)
2. Position objects in that world
3. Move the "camera" POV in that world
4. Move small virtual objects in that world (the door, anyway)
5. Capture the above as "film"
6. Add an audio soundtrack to that "film"
7. Splice that CG "film" with outside footage. Note: you haven't shown that you can blend the two. You've only shown that at Frame #X, you can switch from your 100% CG world to the 100% outside footage.
8. Add text frames into the "film"

Remember in my last post in the other thread? Remember how I said that I could give you literally hundreds of tests that you should have performed prior to investing a dime in the project or a minute into the mental self-stimulation of a website? Yeah. Well those are 8 things you've just shown out of the several hundred. You've got a few more to go, ALL of which should've been done before now. Let's see 'em.

So now - let's put the shoe on the other foot for a minute. Why don't YOU tell US what you think that trailer shows us? What did you set out to show, how do you think it shows it, how someone watching it is supposed to know anything about your project, etc. You're the DIRECTOR, as you're fond of repeating, so why not dazzle us with your expertise? Now that you've posted a "trailer" that you've deemed "perfect", NOW why don't you use it to sell us on your project?

josh_sg16: ha thats not in the Japanese version
strobelight_epileptic: Really?
josh_sg16: apsolutely not the end has to change. I dont even like the idea of the mind **** they have put on it. the story needs it at the end but not such a long one.

strobelight_epileptic: (well, it was sparsely animated anyway)
strobelight_epileptic: So it's believable, just to provide fanservice.

strobelight_epileptic: I'm no piano player, so the keyboards and **** were done with a piano roll.

Okay, so the chat log just shows that you're trying to pull the wool over the eyes of a bunch of other people, as well as us. I don't see the relevance...

As quite a lot of us have said quite a large number of times, we have full confidence that a live action Evangelion movie CAN be done. Just not by you. You haven't even shown us evidence that you're really doing it. Just TALKING about it. Oh - and for a while there, collecting money. I'd tend to bet that you still are, you're just hiding it better.

As I did try to point out in my last post in the previous thread, NONE OF THIS STUFF MATTERS if you haven't done the testing to prove you can pull it all together.

Where are those test results?

I'll elaborate for a second. The previous thread(s) consisted of Shinji_Ikari trying to perpetrate a hoax about a live action Evangelion film. Several of us got tired of hearing about this hoax, so we took it upon ourselves to ask him lots of the questions to which he should have a ready answer IF it's a real project. He should have all sorts of preparatory work done IF it's a real project, and we asked to see it. All we got in response was a series of excuses and evasions. The kid's done no real work on the project, outright lied on a number of very specific points, and it's the group concensus that it's a hoax. So we like to keep asking those questions. It's not that we like turning the knife in the wound, it's that he won't let us let GO of the knife while he writhes around on it, really.

As such, it's not a chat thread nor a flame thread, and it'll be useful if we all remember that. Technically all chat threads are supposed to be in PB&G, so if we could limit this thread to Shinji's outrageous claims and the subsequent debunkings, that'd be best. Thanks.

Wow that line just made my day, and quite possibly the thread.

I don't think your location would really work for the movie though Shinji. That one picture didn't impress me. (Not to sound like I'm hating on where you live or anything). Also if I'm not mistaken, doesn't Eva have a lot of scenes in urban environments? ^ According to what he wrote in the other thread, he'll make the first episode, and then the fans will shower him with accolades until he agrees to make the rest of the series.

Gee, Shinji - you're bored and have nothing to do? Would you like us to start listing the hundreds of tests you could do to make sure that you actually have the technical expertise to pull this off? Because we certainly can find plenty of things for you to do that you evidently haven't done - oh! Wait! That's right - we've already told you some of those things. That's right, I keep forgetting.

Those results are where?

I mean - okay. You don't have the models, so you can't do full CG fight scenes yet. But have you ever even taken stick figures and, you know, made them walk believably? Why, I'll bet a person with your talent and equipment can whip out a stick-figure-esque model in no time and have them walk through a city of nondescript boxes, just to make sure you've got the concept of believable bipedal locomotion down pat, right? Of course! I mean, you'd OBVIOUSLY want to do that before you pay for a model that's going to be far more difficult to move around. I mean, the human eye is hard to convince when it comes to natural movements (as any beginning animator knows) so I'm sure you've done this already. Silly me.

You, um, HAVE done this test already, right Shinji?

<crickets chirp>

Well?

No, we're waiting for all sorts of things. You're the one that keeps telling us we're waiting for the trailer. We've repeatedly told you that the trailer is irrelevant. I mean, you do realize that a movie trailer is made AFTER filming is complete, right? You know that?

In the case of stickmen, all I'm saying is that of course you'd have tried to animate a simple model realistically PRIOR to paying several hundred dollars for a very complex and stylistic model you don't even know whether you'll be able to use. Where are the results of those animation tests?

So how are you going to make the Eva capsule? Obviously you can't CGI the whole seat and controls.

I'm also curious how you're going to make the plug suits. You're gonna have to visit kinky rubber stores and order "special" suits.

I'd pay Shinji for the suit if he got you to wear it.. kinky rubber ^_^

Agh! Just when I thought you had an epiphany... I knew there had to be an excuse.

Did we ever ASK for finished product? No. We asked for tests. Proof Of Concept Tests. Proof that you can do all of the technical tasks that will be required in the finished product. We aren't asking for the finished product, just for a demonstration of all the concepts that will be required. You know, all of the things that you would have to prove to yourself and others before anyone put a single dime into this project, yourself included.

I could ask you a hundred relevant questions, but thus far you haven't even been able to understand what I've been asking, much less been willing to answer me directly. So I'll go back to my earlier question:

Have your hands touched a keyboard and mouse on this project for anything other than putting up a (fake) website? If so, FOR WHAT?! *

* If self-gratification over your casting choice for Misato was involved, please do NOT answer this question. Forget I asked.

And no, I don't wanna see more pics of you or whoever, I wanna see results to maybe prove that you are even capable of comprehending everything that has been asked of you for the past... like, 40 pages of posts.

Yes! SEE? Was that so hard? Finally, we have some idea of your level of technical expertise! Bloody HELL, man. Why did this take so long? This is WORLDS better than that sad little smudge effect you did earlier.

Constructive Feedback I Can Now Give You:

1) Your effects have no depth in your world. When you cough out the little fireball, the efect appears IN FRONT of your hand, rather than behind it. If you can't place that effect behind your hand, you will not be able to effectively do a mixed CG / live action scene. That is important to know. But at least you have a start, and you know what to work on.

2) Your effects aren't part of your world in any other way, either. The light from the fireballs does light up nearby objects (your hands, wrists, and face, for example) nor do they create shadows for the objects in the room. The flittering leaves/butterflies thing didn't appear to interact with the real world at all - they didn't land on the table, nor did they appear to be affected by air currents. When the lamp got scorched, the laser didn't make anything glow (even thought the light was scattered enough for us to see the beam), and the smoke didn't affect the atmosphere in the shot. Your hands reflect on the table finish, but none of the effects do. Stuff like that.

3) Not a big deal, but the flitting leaves thing looked like it was at a better resolution than the film itself. Your effects / CG stuff has to match the live action, or it won't work. Just a note. I could tell you more if I saw a full resolution shot.

I'd like to see the same thing with sound, if you can find that version. I could give you feedback on your audio work. I'm willing to bet you haven't worked the sound into the room space, either. It can be done, but if you did the sound the same way you did the image effects, you might not have thought about it.

Still - successful tests of many concepts. Kudos!

.....It looks like you filmed it on a cheap digital camera. I hope if you're making a whole movie, you can format it better.

Leader Desslock
May 8th, 2006, 07:50 PM
Here's an example of what I'm talking about from one of my all-time favorite films, Big Trouble In Little China. If you haven't seen it, you should. Not only is it a great film, but it shows what you can do with a very, very small budget.

In this clip, Egg Shen is demonstrating some Chinese Sorcery:

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i91/AlycWafiago/EggSorcery.jpg

Notice that the blue light from the sparks is lighting up the surrounding objects. It's not PERFECT, though - the extra light is coming from behind the camera and to the left, but that misses the cup of Egg's right palm (frame left), which is in shadow. If the continuity editor had picked up on it, they'd have reflected some of the blue light from a mirror on the right into his palm to make up for it. Then it would've matched the flickering from the main light being shone in his face.

Still - the effect is a PART of the scene, rather than just a superimposed drawing. You'll need this level of ability to place actors on a virtual stage, or else you won't be able to get your lighting right, their positions and shadows right - none of it. They'll be superimposed on a graphic, rather than part of a CG scene.

Do yourself another favor and rent the movie Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow. The movie is fun, but watch the extra features on the disc, specifically the Making of Sky Captain stuff and his original short concept film. He did exactly what you're trying to do now, so you'll have to master the same techniques he used to do his short film. Make a note of them.

And God did smite Shinji for stealing that bandwidth which was his.

Leader Desslock
May 9th, 2006, 11:45 AM
@kiyomichan - Not "Father Gregory"? Ah, well. If it helps you can call me Ishmael. That was my nickname for a while. As for what I looked like growing up? Pale, very skinny, crooked eyes - not much to look at, really.

ANYHOO - if I had to guess what's going on with Shinji, it's a combination of two factors:

1) With direct feedback on his effects, he's finally realized how hard this will be and is quitting, just like he did his Trigun game. I doubt this is the primary factor, however.

2) His church probably read him the riot act for hosting his forums and his file downloads on their website. This, I think, is more immediately relevant. ^_^

There may be other factors involved (ADV finally sending a C&D, actors wondering when they're supposed to start, etc.), but I expect he'll fill us in on the details when he gets time. Or not. Doesn't much matter now, does it?

So yes, I did get involved. I did not call "the government". There is no way to call "the government". This is a civil matter, so there's nobody in "the government" who would care. The only people who would care would be the North American licensor, in this case ADV.

Remember back in the other thread where I gave Shinji one week to produce evidence that this was not a hoax? Actually, I gave him a week and a half. And he didn't produce any sort of evidence, so I operated based on that assumption and called ADV directly. Dumber than a box of rocks, I can tell you - one of the most painful calls I've ever had to suffer through. When I *finally* managed to get it through their heads what was going on, they were fairly well irritated.

Long story short: they thought Shinji's little project might make waves for the REAL live action project (which has already had its share of problems), and they didn't want to risk that. They wanted to send in the national guard (darn near), but instead they agreed to a Cease And Desist.

Why did I call the licensor? Well, I thought this was a hoax. Even after seeing Shinji's little effects clip he just posted (the first proof he's done ANYTHING), I still give it a > 50% chance of being a hoax. But on the off chance I was wrong, I still: a) called the licensor so not to start a paper trail on Shinji, and b) I stressed heavily that this was a high school kid and a fan project, so harsh legal action wasn't necessary.

But again, why did I call? Well, if the kid was a hoax, it needed to be shut down. If not, then an idealistic kid was talking about spending a whole lot of money he didn't have for something he obviously couldn't do, and which might eventually get him sued if he distributed it. Rapping him with a C&D was the least of his worries, and it might actually get him to start thinking about a real project in a real manner.

SO - after that, I let it go. I do have a whole collection of info on Shinji, including archives of his web updates, his personal info, and pretty much all the evidence anyone would need to put together a court case and send him to jail. I've never given this to ADV, but I kept it around, just in case it was ever PROVEN that this was a scam. In which case I'd have turned the entire case file over to ADV and let Shinji fry.

I didn't do that, however. I nearly did when he started lying to us outright, but if truth be told, that was just too entertaining to stop. And it turned up some additional info on him, which was handy to have.

As soon as I noticed that he'd hosted his forum and his downloads on the Trail Blazer Missions site, I did contact their director to warn her. If this did become a legal issue, then the involvement of his church organization would've gotten him in some SERIOUS hot water (with the church protecting its image), so I thought it was best they kicked those files off their website. I sent them an FYI, and it appears the offending files have now been removed. I'm sure Shinji got a stern dressing-down from the folks at Trail Blazer, and if he was formerly doing any web design for them, I'd guess that's ended.

All in all, it sounds like Shinji's finally reaping what he had sown. A good lesson in how NOT to run a hoax, in my opinion. It could've been a lot worse. I could've gotten him expelled, for example - contemplated it, in fact. But it was always that 1% chance that I might be wrong that made me limit my actions to scaring him straight, rather than smiting him with the Wave Motion Gun. That 1% also obligated me to give him warning of every single action I took, along with a way to prevent me from taking that action. He chose his consequences deliberately, and with foreknowledge of them. You can't save a fool from himself.

I'll be interested to hear what's happening on his end. ^_^

Of course, Shinji - if you actually DID want to make a film, there's nothing stopping you at all. You've got everything assembled to make Any Other Science Fiction / Mecha Film you might want. All you have to do is get a script and start. And you could even sell it.

...that's if you were ever serious, which the safe money still says you weren't.

I think that strobelight guy would let him use it... since he willingly sent it to him. I donno at what price though.

Oh and thanks for that topless shot Shinji, really, thanks dude.

...
I'm the strobelight guy. Funny what happens when you look yourself up on the Internet, huh?

Personally, I don't mind if he's using the song I sent him (if ever that movie ever goes underway). If ever, I'd just like to be on the credits or something.

It's kind of outdated anyway and I've got newer music to focus my energies on.

Can he top the pic? I'm kind of curious how he out does himself next.
Reeked of sexy, didn't it?

Oh I meant the Freeplaymusic.com thing he mentioned. Not to mention the possibility he's probably conning the guy into giving him music. Or trying to get us to believe him. If it is the latter, he sure must spend alot of time coming up with ways to keep this thing going.
That was a real conversation. I was curious about that EVA project because I used to attempt to program video games and film movies and my ambitions would get way ahead of what I was capable of doing. Hence, I'd eat my hat if he could pull off something as large scale as he'd envisioned.

He asked me to do some music for the trailer. I agreed to do it if he could show me a trailer (or some results). I never got a follow-up though. =/

Oh yeah, I still think any adaptation of EVA needs Misato fanservice, live-action or otherwise. ;)

Looked pretty epic to me too. I just scrolled through it and damn. He never told me his project was shut down by ADV. Guess I can stop waiting for that footage now.

As for me, I'm getting ready to hit the studio for an instrumental progressive metal demo. Mostly for potential singers to reference vocal parts to. It's overrated.

It seems like every forum he's promoted his fan project on has turned him into a whipping boy. I didn't know people from Animenation would take those kinda measures though - honestly, how likely was it that anything would have come out of a limited budget and an oversized ambition?

Personally I thought calling ADV was kind of harsh on Desslock's part, but going over his reasoning I guess he did what he had to do for what most people knew was an ill-fated project. Then again, he was just a high school kid with an unrealistic proposal.

Talking to him, he seemed pretty serious about making the movie. I can relate - I had oversized ambitions kinda like his in middle school and high school and talked about them as if they were gonna be pro-quality. Having that kind of experience, I wouldn't be so hasty to call it a hoax if it was one.

Just an outsider's $0.02. Cheers.

He was trying to get us to write\donate\whatever for his movie, all that really came out of it was a clip of the Eva naime with explosions super imposed over it. If I remember right, ADV and the church (he was bumming off his church's dedicated server for webspace) both double kicked his ***

We did take to him in the beginning, we gave him suggestions and tried to point him in the right direction. He became a whipping boy when it became clear that he was either trying to con us or just a retarded puppy.
When he started claiming other's work as his own, that's when we got mean. When he tried to solicite donations based on other's hard work, that's when more than a few of us contacted ADV.

Nope, he really did ask for everything he got.

I'm guessing that means donations.

Good grief, not this again.

Talking to him, he seemed pretty serious about making the movie.

So serious, in fact, that he never even bothered to put up a storyboard or anything of that ilk - the entire focus of the project (besides the paypal thingymajig) seemed to be on making a 'trailer' and not a movie.

Where are my previous posts here? As I certainly remember posting in this thread. Were they deleted or removed in a Back to The Future-type way - either way I have to wonder what the intention behind that was.

Haha! That reminds me of one of the old Rocky trailers where they have a glove with the American flag and another glove with the Communist hammer and sickle colliding against each other...and EXPLODING!

Ahh...the 80's.

Ahh, the blunders of using your church's technology. That's how the BTK killer got caught...he gave himself away by delivering a floppy disk with a letter to the police in Word format. The information on the file and floppy disk led back to his church's PC and his personal account.

Would you believe, he was president of the congregation council. =\

I said he seemed serious. I never said he was capable. He spoke to me about his plans and what he wanted to do, and I listened, because I was curious how a high school student with a budget less than $100 would pull something like this off. Truth be told, I was willing to help him if he could produce evidence that he was capable of making this happen. Specifically, I asked him for footage to inspire me to write music.

I never got that footage, or even a follow up. I guess we share sentiments then.

That makes sense, Desslock - there may have been multiple threads. Can't escape the feeling that I posted in this one, too.

I'll have to check what else might have been changed - hang on, the search function - even for registered members - doesn't actually search the entire stretch of subforums at all, which means I can't do that. What a waste!

Edit: I like the sound of this live action Pokemon thing, for the Pokeball all you need is one of those spherical hamster treadballs with various household pets crushed together inside - then when you throw it against the ground it cracks open and they all pop out... just like in the show! Animal Welfare might get onto your case with this plan, however.

There were numerous threads, the first where he announced his project, the second where he announced that he couldn't do what he wanted on the budget he had, then this one. And I'm thinking a couple of others in the Eva forum.
Some were locked, but I don't think they were deleted.

Either way, OT isn't included in the search, but if you really want to find what you posted, go to google advanced search, search animenation.net for your name. You'll find the archived threads.

Copyright infringment?
Desslock NO LIKE.
Seriously, don't bring it up. :uhh:
To be fair, that has nothing to do with why I contacted ADV. His lies had merely gotten to the point of ridiculousness, so I called his bluff. If I remember correctly, the progression was like this:

1) He claimed to have [studio x] working on his 3-d models
2) Someone contacted said studio to debunk that claim
3) He claimed to have the eva-r team working on his script (which conflicted with previous claims that he was working verbatim from the show script, down to "every gesture and every nuance".
4) Someone contacted eva-r to debunk that claim

...detect the pattern here?...

5) He said that the moment he received a C&D, he'd shut down immediately.
6) I knew he wouldn't do that, so I'm the one who called his bluff. But knowing that debunking this claim could land him in hot water, I gave him an ultimatum. I told him that unless he posted proof of his work by the end of one week, I would contact the licensor.
7) He failed to produce proof, despite several reminders (in posts and PMs)
8) I let an additional week or so pass, then contacted ADV Films.

This was not a case of Desslock No Like Copyright Infringement. This was a case of calling a fraud on his claims. He could have avoided it by either: a) admitting the deception, or b) posting proof of his work. He chose to do neither, so the licensor was contacted.
