With the recent demise of the Ranma forum I thought it would be a good idea to sticky a thread discussing her other works. This will help the older posters who miss their forum and introduce newer fans to some of her older series that are as good if not better than Inuyasha.

Here are a list of her anime (minus Inuyasha of course)

Urusei Yatsura
Maison Ikkoku
Ranma 1/2
Rumiko Takahashi Anthology
Mermaid Scar/Mermaid Forest
One Pound Gospel

Yeah, those "by the creator of Inu-Yasha!" stickers I've seen on the newer Ranma GNs kinda steams me- even though IY got all the TV glory, it's still almost a decade younger and the phrase should be the other way 'round. ;)

I am still waiting for someone to tell me Lum is a copy of Inuyasha because of her horns being placed in roughly the same spot.

Has anyone else watched Mermaid Forest? I was just curious for your thoughts since it is so diffrent from anything else she has done.

I've seen parts of it... it seemed pretty interesting, but when we had access it was at a time where I had a lot to do.

I'm not a fan of the horror genre but I enjoyed both Mermaid Scar and Mermaid Forest; they're definately not the typical Takahashi stuff, but for being short little one-shots, they weren't bad either. Definately not my favorite of her stuff, but again, far from horrible.

I haven't watched Mermaid Forest, but I've read Mermaid Saga (all of Takahashi's "Mermaid" stories under one title). I am usually not a fan of horror, but I thought of Mermaid Saga was excellent. :) I also think it's a great example of how far Takahashi's talent can reach. She doesn't always have to stick to comedy or action to write a really good story. :)

Speaking of a place to discuss Takahashi's other works... Someone a long time ago (I don't remember who, but it was someone who frequented the InuYasha forum) suggested asking the mods or admins about creating a thread to discuss all of Takahashi's works, not just individual works. Just thought I'd put that idea out there...

I'm a little disappointed by the anime version of Mermaid Saga. It frequently appears very stiff at times and, despite being such a short series, it has this "television show" quality to it whereas the original Mermaid Forest and Mermaid Scar animes had an OVA (OAV? I can never tell the difference) kind of touch.

I wasn't aware they made a Mermaid Forest TV series a couple of years ago. That's why there's a shift in quality from the original Mermaid Forrest anime, though - OAV have higher budgets than TV series do becuase there is a more relaxed release schedule and generally a smaller number of total episodes.

(As far as OAV/OVA goes; it doesn't really matter. Different companies in Japan use one of the two. Just so long as you not trying to spell cat d-o-g.)

Why did Viz rename the Ranma movies with those parody names & not use the original title?

Because that's Trish LeDuex and how Viz operated back in the mid 90s?

Honestly, I can't think of any good reason why they did this other than that the movies have longer, more complicated names translated to English than remembering the movie parodies. And I'm hesitent to call that a "good reason".

My Ratings:

Urusei Yatsura - Excellent
Maison Ikkoku - Excellent
Ranma 1/2 - Excellent
Rumiko Takahashi Anthology - You mean Rumic Theater? Very good.
Mermaid Scar/Mermaid Forest - Never Started
One Pound Gospel - Browsed through, looked good.

I've got to start and finish the last two.
