Here it is. I changed the logo so you can play with your friends who haven't seen whose death we're investigating For obvious reasons, you'll want to print this onto thick paper, especially the cards. Hopefully the little monolith peices are self-explanatory enough, just cut them out, fold them, and glue the tab to the inside. They should stand up by themselves, but you might want to glue them onto some kind of flat round thing to weigh them down so they balance better.
http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/6697/lefthalf2mw.th.jpg (http://img164.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lefthalf2mw.jpg)http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/8282/righthalf4si.th.jpg (http://img164.imageshack.us/my.php?image=righthalf4si.jpg)
There's some overlap between the two halves so it shouldn't be too hard to glue them together. Just make sure you print both halves the same way, and they should match up. It'll come out pretty small on 8.5x11 paper so maybe you'll want to take it to Kinko's or whatever and have them print it poster size.
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/1068/printit3jn.th.jpg (http://img81.imageshack.us/my.php?image=printit3jn.jpg)
Use that one if you have some way to print it as one big poster, or if for some reason you want it reeeeally really tiny.
Annnnd, the cards:
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/8500/cards27xd.th.jpg (http://img100.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cards27xd.jpg)
If you don't have any thick paper to print the cards on, maybe glue some construction paper or something to the back before you cut them out; it's important that you can't see through the cards. Also, make sure they're close to the same size and shape, again, so you can't tell which is which from behind.
And I think that's it! I'm going to make a PDF file with built-in instructions, but I figure you guys can handle it as-is. Thanks for the support!
If anybody has the means to either program this as a computer game, or a site online that lets you sell... custom board games, let me know.

Edit: PDF Version is up!
no pdfs! (includes the OMG spoiler that nobody here cares about.) Share this link with everyone, please.
Includes:
-Both halves of the board, with spoiler-free logo
-Weapon tokens
-Suspect Pawns
-All cards
-"Case File" folder
-Alternate spoiler-version logo
-2 Alternate Keel monoliths
-Eva Clue Die
-Notepads
-Assembly Instructions
-Gameplay Instructions

Update again: Extra Large Version (no pdfs!)
I'm done now, I swear!

Edit: Know what? Screw PDFs. Let me know if you want the zip (http://rapidshare.de/files/18544467/EvaClue-final.zip.html) of all necessary images.
*likely to not be as final as I'd hope, given the trend.

If anybody has the means to either program this as a computer game
I can probably make a multiplayer web-driven version (not promising anything!) but it'll probably be crappy and full of bugs.

Edit: Also, I dunno if you can sell this, since the characters and stuff are licensed by Gainax. But it looks awesome tho.

What's with the little numbers/letters on the monoliths. Shouldn't Keel's say 01 instead of 08?
But this is amazing, you've put a lot of work into this thing and it looks great. Now I want Evagelion Candy Land!

Wow, this has all come together really nicely. I can see people playing this before/after conventions with their friends. How many hours do you think you needed to make this?

That's just great, and impressive that you got it done so quickly.

Three things:
1) I like it better when it was "Who Killed *SPOILER CENSOR*?"... gives it a bit more flavor, IMO- plus the only people I'll probably play with know the series frontwards and back.
2) So, anyone know where those of us who haven't played Clue in ages can find an online copy of the rules? :embarrassed:
3) Is anyone else curious why Gendo has a secret passage in his office to get to Misato's apartment? >.>

Yeah, I mentioned that in the other thread. I figure I might be able to get away with a cafepress type printing where I sell like, 7 of them, though. :P
Shouldn't Keel's say 01 instead of 08?
Dangit! You and your misleading name... Which one is 08, then? I knew I should have just left him as KL...

SEELE08 hasn't been assigned to any of the visible SEELE members which is why I picked it.
Keel is SEELE 01
and the manga has the commiteemen shown as
"Teddy"=SEELE 09
"Vlad"=SEELE 11
"Peirre"=SEELE 06
"Nigel"=SEELE 04

A PDF version is a good idea. Even though I usually dislike PDFs (Purdue really loves them and doesn't know when they are appropriate and when they aren't) but this would be an ideal form to "market" it as such.

Yeah, agreed on point number one. I mean, after all, why would you be playing Evangelion clue if you weren't already something of a fan? Plus, it definitely adds humor to have the "Who killed *GAAHSPOILER*?", rather than just "Clue, Evangelion Edition." It's gotta be mentioned at least somewhere that this game is about said dead person... I mean, that's how this all started, isn't it?

Though, honestly, I'm not complaining. This is really, really awesome. I actually really want to play this game. Oh, which reminds me... In normal Clue, the box comes with a bunch of little sheets of paper with all the locations, weapons, and suspects in boxes so you can cross them out when you figure out they are no longer suspect. It's a little bit hard to describe, but if you've played Clue, you might know what I'm talking about. I'll scan one if people are confused. Well, anyway, is there any chance of you making one of those, or are we just going to have to fend for ourselves in that department if we ever want to play this game, as I plan to? It's not too important, just a nice little detail. Oh, and that reminds me, there's also a little pouch where you put the actual murderer, weapon, and room in the center of the board; it's got "Case File, COnfidential" written on it. Will that also be included, or should we just make one of our own? That's also kind of a small detail, but it would be cool.

And one last question (sorry for baraging you with them): Are the two pieces of the board printable in two separate sheets of paper, as in, are they the right size?

EDIT: Gaaah, I'm sorry, one last thing: So, are the backs of the cards just blank?

Ornette
April 20th, 2006, 09:53 AM
You could buy the real clue game and print out the board (correct sizing it possibly) and just paste it to the back of the existing board. Then you'll have all the pieces plus the little confidential pouch!

Where can I easily upload a PDF file?

You can upload PDFs here: http://www.rapidshare.de/

You should be able to make a free account and upload to a certain limit (unless they changed that recently).

EDIT: Never mind, got it. Great work on the additional content- I love some of the humorous comments in the rules. ("Just like on the forums!")

LuigiHann
April 20th, 2006, 01:44 PM
Yeah, I think there is some kind of concurrent download limit, so if it doesn't work, wait and try again.
But the fact that people are downloading is a good sign.
And I had a feeling people might like the rules. :) If I weren't so lazy I'd have rewritten them from scratch instread of just replacing words and adding comments, but it's all good.

The Opinionator

Are the images in the PDF file really high enough resolution to print out on a board so that it doesn't look pixelated?

LuigiHann
April 20th, 2006, 02:22 PM
I haven't gotten to print it yet. I think it's more likely to look slightly fuzzy rather than pixelated, but in any case that depends on how big you print it (and how sensitive your eyes are to such things). If you print it at 100% size, there shouldn't be a problem, I don't think. If anyone's tried it, let us know. I think it should be okay.

Okay, so I had somebody print it out, and it came out, like, super tiny. Like, Travel-Size. It works, I suppose, but the tiny pawns were very hard to assemble, and I imagine it'll be tricky to play with a board that size that isn't magnetic or anything. So I made an Xtra Large version, which uses 4 pages for the board, to waste even more of your ink and paper, hooray. Perhaps I'll be able to take it to Kinko's or something to print it... Anyway, here you go:
no pdfs! Same spoiler warning again.
I'm done now, I swear. I may get a chance to play it saturday (multi-club dork convention happening at my college) so I'll let you know how it works.
Edit: Screw PDFs.
It comes out a million percent better if you print it as individual jpegs and let the computer scale it. This zip is the end of it, so help me.
http://rapidshare.de/files/18544467/EvaClue-final.zip.html
No idea how it'll look in color, but I did a test page in B&W and it seems to look exactly like it should, no pixellation, clean lines, clear textures, all good. So do me a favor and throw all the pdf versions onto a pile and burn them. Zips and jpegs are where it's at, yo. Accept no imitations.

You have any place you plan to host this permanently? I could put it in the omake section of my poor, neglected FGC site*, if you like. ;)

I actually wish I had been paying more attention while you were putting it together -- instead of staring into space like Osaka -- since my image archives are ... uhhhh ... http://www.evacommentary.org/forums/images/smiles/lookaround.gif ... well, I probably could have helped. If nothing else, I insist that you let me provide a replacement image for the N2 Mine! Onegai! (Was the JPEG compression on the original that extreme, out of curiosity?)

Yes, by all means, put up that .zip I just posted. (or wait until it's done, as apparently it isn't... :crybaby: ) I'd actually very much appreciate a permanent host for the thing.
Yeah, it would have been nice to have a decent n2 mine image. If I hadn't been so lazy, I could have gotten one myself from the DVD, but instead I went with the quick route of google image search. (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/tomsite/NGE/weaponry_n2.jpg&imgrefurl=http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/tomsite/NGE/Eyclopedia/n2.html&h=170&w=250&sz=11&hl=en&start=3&tbnid=lPmGzzOrmGa6-M:&tbnh=72&tbnw=106&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dn2%2Bmine%26svnum%3D10%26hl %3Den%26lr%3D%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DN)
It's a shame you had to make that offer just as I was cursing the name of this project and swearing I wouldn't touch it again XD
How are your graphics skills? Feel like fixing the card and token yourself? :D
Otherwise, just post a couple replacement pics for the n2 mine, and anything else you have that might help (got any top-views of potted plants? :P ), and against my better judgement I'll update yet another incarnation of this cursed game tomorrow.
Don't take my tone to seriously, it's just the .psd business has me quite irritated at the project.

Okay, I got it printed at Staples, so therefore, it's now officially done. Therefore, you're welcome to host it on your websites if you want, as long as you don't modify the .zip (it's a couple posts up from this one), and you give me credit. Hope everybody likes it, I'll post pictures of the printed board once I ... get some pictures of it.
It did come out a little bit pixelly, but mostly because it's like 17x17, which is a bit bigger than it will be if you print it on your regular printer, I think.

I got caught up trying to fix a DVD frame-nabbing problem that's been annoying me for eons. Of course, the solution I found has a problem that my old program didn't. http://www.evacommentary.org/forums/images/smiles/headbash.gif

But, uhhh, irrelevent. If you're done and you never, ever want to touch the thing again, you can PM me or something, and work out the final details, 'n stuff.

Aw, geez. I appreciate it, but yeah, I had them print it (and laminate and mount it :D), and on paper, the N2 mine really doesn't look any worse than the other cards (they all came out a bit grainy, but the lamination makes up for it by making the colors look really vivid and professional). Thanks, though. I'd have waited longer but there was a games night earlier that I wanted to have the game finished by. I got to play it with a bunch of people, it was quite fun, actually.
I need to get somebody with a nice digital camera to give a better sense of how good it looks, but here's a couple crappy webcame pics just for fun:
http://img2.imagepile.net/images/27068461.jpg
Also, when I say "It's done" what I probably mean is, "the files I'm realeasing to the internet are done." The fact is, this summer I'll probably make unique tokens out of clay, because I'm that kind of dork. :P
But yeah, this zip (http://rapidshare.de/files/18544467/EvaClue-final.zip.html) is the final incarnation that I'm uploading, so go ahead and put that on the FGC site (and anywhere else that Eva/Clue fans will be likely to find it), I'd appreciate that very much ^_^

I wouldn't be too had on yourself. I mean, the Chibi-Rei was a little hard to identify at first but all things considered, it turned out far more badass than I expected. But then again, I have little faith in humanity.

If I had to rate Eva Clue on a scale with 1 being not-so-extreme and 10 being extremely-extreme, I'd give it a 9.5.
