Ok! I recently watched Love Hina on TV... and every single episode some Monks always appears and say weird things to main character! What's the meaning of that? Are they some kind of spirits or something like that? by the way... Love Hina is of the best series ever!

They are just elders....nothing special:huh: They sure as hell arn't spirits:lol: I don't remember if they are monks or not, can't remember & don't care.
Love Hina is of the best series ever!

They're kinda the Greek Chorus of the series, making pithy observations about characters' emotions and mental states. I always found it interesting the way Mutsumi's (Reality) entrance usually drove them away, but Naru's (Dreams) didn't.

The "three old men" thing happens in a lot of series. Ever seen Cowboy Bebop?
And read the Love Hina manga. It's excellent, but very different from the anime. The anime kind of sucks in comparison.

I only read a tiny part of the manga, but I don't recall these 3 geezers ever appearing in them. Only in the anime (so far I've watched the first 2 eps, it barely premiered in Latin-america a few days ago).
So far I think Love Hina is a decent show, but nothing spectacular. The manga is so superior. My predictions about it were right but I'll keep on watching it anyways. I remember when I recently joined AN and how half of the members treated this anime as if it were the gift of god to all horny men just so that when the Inuyasha craze appeared everyone wanted to shoot themselves for saying they loved Love Hina so much without understanding why and that they now hate it.

I highly disagree. I diddn't hate Love Hina, I enjoyed it a little but its pretty stupid sex comedy with tame fanservice is all. Its ironic the word "love" in the title when there really isn't any. I never read the manga but I hear it actually has romance....
The music & animation was great at least.

i believe that those elders were representations of Keitaro's inability to progress and his worries. remember that at the end of one of the last eps, when he and Naru finally hook up, the elders kind of fade away, and you never see them again.
and yes, the manga is about a thousand times better than the anime.
so says the forum's authority on LH :P

I heard the music described as "a monkey banging a Casio keyboard against the wall", and some of that definitely fits..

I guess I'm one of the very few that prefer the anime over the manga. I found the manga to be much more repetitious in regard to much of the storyline. When the anime first came out the most complaints I heard delt with the fact that the fanservice (while some was there) was not as predominant. I took the anime on it's own merits and found it had it's own particular charm that I never found in the manga.

Love Hina being or not being a good anime is just a matter of opinion, really. Sure, it's not groundbreaking at all, but for what it was, it was good in my opinion. I should note that I never took in the manga at all, just the anime TV series and its respective OAVs and movies.
I think I'm the only one that enjoyed the English dub also. So many people think otherwise of this one. I 'do' agree that a couple voices were off, in particular, Kitsune. I've seen other anime...Azumanga Daioh for example....with characters from the 'Osaka' region (where Kitsune hails from in this series), and the dubs of those anime are more relaxed with the whole 'Southern' accent thing people gripe about. In LH, they just laid it on a little 'too' thick, even for my ears.
I can't place it too high on my favorites list. I've seen many other titles that beat out Love Hina in terms of quality in story and characters.

I'm fine with most of the voices besides a few. The problem I had was the dub was toned down.

I don't want to turn this into an arguement but how can you disagree?
It's quantative not qualative.
Love Hina had more romance in it.
For goodness sake in Tenchi there isn't even a mutual attraction between two characters.

And yes, there is romance in it. Muuuuch more than the anime series.

Manga > Anime.
FACT.
I hated the LH anime with utmost passion. The drawing style of the anime is an eyesore compared to the manga by Akamatsu, and aside from a very select few, the filler episodes were crap. Not to mention, there isn't even a definite ending. How lame.
I did like the OVA, simply because of Kanako and that it actually kept Akamatsus style in tact.

I thought Love Hina (I'm talking about the anime here, not manga) had hardly any romance, just a little bits of hints & bad sex jokes if you count that as romance. Tenchi does have romance, I'd say its at the same level as Love Hina, they both don't really have much romance.
What I mostly disagreed about wasn't Tenchi but this anime your talking about, "a certain other show that won't be named?". Ah! My Goddess I assume. The OVA & movie(which I think you said you never seen ethier) is all about romance. The first season of the TV series isn't all deep in romance because it doesn't get deep in romance until later(season 2 I'm hoping). Its a slow start & the anime isn't over yet.

Well there's certainly more "romantic tension" in Love Hina than Tenchi. Like I said one of the reasons I slightly preferred TiT is because there's actually a mutual attraction between two characters in that series.

Look in my opinion Keichi is more boring than Shinji and Beldandy is more of a robot than R-Dorothy.
I'm not actually joking. In Big O Roger and Dorothy actually have a much more believable and interesting relationship and it's not even a romantic anime. She gets jealous of Angel and actually shows romantic interest in him. Roger's interaction with her is also more interesting than Keichi's constant blubbering.

Tenchi is a pimp. P.I.M.P. Pimp's don't love them hoes.
And as for Love Hina: Just because the manga is superior than the anime, doesn't mean the anime is bad. I thought it was pretty decent actually, especially compared to other Tenchi clones out there.

What ignorance, you havn't even seen all of Ah! My Goddess, the TV series isn't complete yet(it will get much more romantic) & you never saw the movie or OVA(which is very romantic). Theres a scene in the movie where Belldandy gets jealous & runs off crying when she sees another girl kiss Keiichi, but of course you never watched it so you wouldn't know. But you did say you saw the TV series right? I guess you didn't watch it all like when Keiichi & Sayoko were flirting & it breaks Belldandy's heart & she runs away & was about to go back to heaven until Keiichi stops her.

Thank you Gannon..............I'm glad I'm not the only on this board who thinks it's LH is not as bad. Tenchi was all right the first two series.....
However, while we're on the subject of Akamatsu? I saw an episode of Negima on youtube.com and it suuuuuuuuuccccccccccks.

^ Negima is the same as Love Hina in that respect. Don't judge it based on the anime. And read at least several volumes of Negima as the first volume or two aren't as good in comparison to the rest of the series.
I don't think it's the best series ever but it's certainly better than Tenchi and other Tenchi like series (hint hint).
Sorry, but you are flat out wrong on this. Tenchi is vastly superior to Love Hina. Don't get me wrong, I found the Love Hina anime mildly entertaining and I like the manga, but Tenchi is far, far better.
The exception is Tenchi in Tokyo, which is worse than Love Hina. I can't comment on GXP as I haven't seen it.
I'm not talking about romance. I'm talking about overall quality of the series.
Tenchi had better story, character development, animation (which isn't quite fair as it was an OVA), music, humor... pretty much everything.

I'd agree with you. I tried the manga, but had a hard time getting through the first volume. Got the second to see if it would improve, but couldn't even finish it for lack of interest. The anime, OTOH, kept me interested and amused through it's entire run, movies and all. And when I want some silly, mindless fun, I'll pull out a random episode. I don't think it's the best series I've ever seen, and Tenchi is better (including Tokyo, though I know I'm one of very few who enjoys it as much as the rest of the series), but for what LH the anime is, it is a good series.

:P We're 3! Anyway... Ok I got another question... How come only one of the characters have powers and the other ones does not have any... that's something pretty weird... another thing.. What the hell happened to keitaro's grandma?
Another point -- I rather watch Dragon Ball GT than Tenchi! .... :D

You know, I heard that the english dub version of Love Hina sucks because Mitsune 'Kitsune' Konno sounds like a cowgirl, Shinobu Maehara sounds like an old lady, Kaolla Su soulds like a german accent. check these video clips out

Boredom with the first two volumes may have been due to the fact that you'd already seen the series; the first three-or-so proceed nearly exactly as the anime, so it's reasonable that you'd lose interest in reading something you already saw on TV. The payoff for taking the time to read the manga, if not already apparent in the more palatable visuals, takes a little while to become apparent. By the time you're past the middle, it's almost like you've become involved in a completely different story.

People love to bash this dub it seems.
I suppose, compared to stuff like the Tenchi OAVs and movies (all dubbed in the 1990s),
Love Hina (dubbed in 2002....which now that I think of it, is shocking, as many consider Tenchi's dub one of the best in its time), Tenchi is going to be the anime everyone compares other-like series to.
I would have to disagree with Shinobu's voice being horrible. For me, it was definitly 'Kitsune'.
So be it. I still feel it was 'okay'. As I said before, I've heard other, better dubs before LH, and since then.
Ah! My Goddess takes time to grow on you, especially the TV series. The OAVs and movie, as stated, are straight-up romance with hints of comedy. I am prefering the TV series more as it goes on. (I do hope a license for the second season is secured soon). There's more sub-plots and misunderstandings, but they all effect Keiichi and Belldandy's lives in some way, and in turn, helps to bring them a little closer. I do think Season 2 will bear more romantic leanings. Season 1 really just seems to set things up, and it's a slow start. Give it a chance, if you're into this sort of anime.

Well i hated the Dub job of LH, but the series still has a place on my top 10 list despite the fact i've seen much better series. For some reason...and i cant really explain it, but Love Hina is one series I could watch and re-watch and still enjoy.
PS: DieBuster is threatening its "top 10" position.... more then likely Diebuster will be there as soon as ep6 is subbed.
