There's no thread on this one? The movie and ep1 is out (as of writing), both are pretty cool. The movie especially is a visual explosion (lots of eye-popping backgrounds by Hirata (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=377))

Both the flick and the show are from director Tsutomu Mizushima (Hare Nochi Guu, Dokurochan)... you might recognize the weird sense of humor, the insanely paced internal monologues and funky comic animation. What did you think of the original manga version of xxxHOLiC?
Mizushima: I thought it dealt with a very interesting worldview; for instance, its cynical portrayal of people in modern day society as well as the authors' views on how discourse has meanings and also how everything is predestined. I had spent most of my time in the comic anime world, so I was a little nervous. But since there were some comical elements within the overall horror tone, I decided to join the party. Personally, I think "laughs" and "scariness" have very much in common. They do not appeal to reason, but they overwhelm our minds directly. I can't explain it well, but I always felt that they had the same feel. Of course, it could be only me who thinks this way, haha.

I'm a pretty big fan of the manga already and the movie did a great job making an original story and keeping the original feel of the comic. I'm hoping the series will be as good consistently.

Just tried the TV series tonight. I was intrigued by the character designs so I thought I'd give it a look. I'm three episodes in now and it's a very interesting show; apparently it crosses over with some other universes that I've no familiarity with, such as Cardcaptor Sakura and Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle (both of which are rather far away from the stuff I usually watch). I imagine I'll stick with it. Haven't seen the movie yet.

Took me a bit to get used to the character designs, but I figured if I could get used to Gankutsuou then I could take anything. CLAMP's style is definitely growing on me.

Give me a break with the bootleg talk. I plan to buy the movie and the series when and if they ever come out on R1. I'm sure Funi, since they have the movie already will probaly have the series as well.

I figured out the title... it kind of has to do with bad habits consuming you.

thus the "xxx" is a wild card.

I'm up to 9 so far & I've enjoyed it. Love the use of folklores throughout some of the epsiodes.
Yuuko is by far my favorite characters in the show, followed by Watanuki and Domeki who make a funny pair.
The Clamp style design grew on me over time.

This is quickly becoming a bit of an obsession of mine! Bloody love xxxHolic... it's got the fantasy that I love CLAMP for, but has a very sexy darkness to it. Plus I love the voice actress for Yuuko, her manner of speaking is my favourite style of Japanese.
I havent seen the manga - but i'm looking forward to CLAMP releasing an Artbook or something, with their xxxHolic stuff in it. I'd also love to see their artwork for Lawful Drug... but it seems a lot of their books don't cover their work from the last couple of years.

Well, episode 23 just finished up, and judging from the download stats on Baka Updates, xxxHOLiC is enjoying some well-deserved online popularity. The adaptation from the manga has been just superb - not necessarily panel-for-panel accurate, but superb all the same.

There had better be a second season, because there are so many good arcs left to animate, most notably Spider-Chick.
