I myself am reading Homunculus. This is one genre Japan does great, psychological horror drama.

I don't get where everyone decided there was gonna be a volume 7.

It seems like it ended, especially if you read the scanlation group's linear notes that it says they were serialized in 2003.. unless they'd really wait three years for a volume.

Probably because it is licensed. The groups that subbed it originally probably stopped when it was licensed and no one else felt like starting it. And the legit releases are way, WAY past ch. 29 at this point. Up to volume 13 or so has been released in the U.S.

Fruits Basket scanlations make more sense because it takes so long for the manga to come out.

Is it anywhere near as good as the TV series? I've been eyeing it becuase I loved the show vehemently and the first volume just got released, but as the show is done by Gonzo, who knows if its story I loved was actually a faithful adaptation -_-;

Oh, on that note, last scanlation I read was Viewfinder no Sekiyoku (volume 3 of the Viewfinder series) because I'm tired of waiting for it to at least be solicited for its domestic release. Such an amazing series it is :wub:

I have no idea, I haven't seen the TV series. It's a pretty straight-forward story, I don't know if the two versions are vastly different. I picked up the first volume at AB and liked it, so I downloaded the whole series. Pretty entertaining.

xxxHolic volumes 1 & 2... I'm really surprised by the differences between the anime and manga, I think I like the anime more for the sake of Doumeki coming into it sooner and all the extra references about him that are included, but I don't agree with the total switching of all these events around just because they can... and why leave out all of the Tsubasa reference from the anime?

Just got done reading the first 3 chapters of Battle Royale 2. This one is only done by Kousun Takami (No Mayasugi Taguchi). The artwork seems to have taken a huge downfall compared to the first series. The storyline is also a bit slow (though at the end of the 3rd chapter they finally get the collars on them).

For anyone wondering, this doesnt seem to have anything to do with the movie Battle Royale 2.

I'm normally not really big on scanlations, as I prefer to read hardcopies, and also to give my money to the creators of manga I enjoy. In this case, though, after spending 2-3 frustrating weeks after reading Volume 13 of the Negima! manga, I couldn't take the waiting any more and so I downloaded and read volumes 14-17.

I'll still be buying the books when they come out, as the quality of both the graphics and traslations of the scanlations is not as good as the Del Rey hardcopies.
However, having reached the end of the "festival" story arc now, I think I can wait a while before I have to get more Negima!

I was just checking out a couple of new titles this weekend that look fairly promising.

IO - A manga by Minato Koio about a young man who travels to Okinawa for sun, girls and to visit the site of his father's disappearance. Once there he meets three sisters who seem to know him, and gets involved with their scuba diving buisness. A bit confusing to start, but the mystery aspect of the story has me interested all ready.

Rosario+Vampire - A manga by Akihisa Ikeda, I ran across this one while researching upcoming anime titles (the manga is being adapted into an anime for next year). It's about a boy named Tsukune who fails his high school entrance exams and ends up unknowingly attending a school for monsters. He meets a beautiful vampire girl named Moka and ends up making friends with several other monsters. The first few chapters are kind of repetative (monster-of-the-week attacks Tsukune, Moka vamps out and saves him, and repeat). Later on, as new characters and plot elements are introduced it gets a bit more interesting, though.

Nothing groundbreaking, perhaps, but a fun read. I'll probably be keeping an eye on these for now, and be looking forward to the R+V anime next year. :)

I've read the first volume, and the first couple chapters of the second volume, and I'm really enjoying it. The manga definetly shares the harem and fanservice aspects of Ai Yori Aoshi, but also includes some mystery and (possibly) supernatural elements, too.

Definety worth checking out. I hope someone decides to licence this in the US, as I would definetly buy it. ^_^

I just read the first three volumes of a series called Toshiue no Hito (An Older Woman). Its about a college student who meets a somewhat mysterious 26 year old woman who is returning to college.

Supprisingly, the girl on the this cover is the "older woman". :naughty:

This romantic comedy really pushes the boundaries between mainstream manga and hentai (some might argue it crosses the line), but except for some gratuitous fanservice in the early chapters and the occasional bath scene, its all pretty tastefully done and consistent with the romantic developments of the series.

I feel compelled to comment on the artwork, too. Looking at the cover above you might think its some sort of lolicon fanservice manga, but the artist manages to make the lead look like what she is, a 25 year old who just happens to be short and small chested, rather than an underage girl.

I am liking it so far, and the romance is pretty interesting with a "loser" lead actually seems to be developing into a better guy as the series progresses.
