Anyone have any ideas when this series might be fansubbed..I know it came out this week as part of the new season but I can't seem to find a subbed version as of yet. :anxiety attack: I'm really looking forward to watching this show along with some other spring selections of 2006 :)

My general rule is that if it comes out this week, then I'd look out for a torrent sometime next week or the week after. With a lot more groups taking on so many projects as of late, I've not seen as many Zero-Day subs as was in the past. Plus, if you give it some time, if the show is subbed by mulitple groups (or anyone in that case), then you might actually run across some real quality translation, again, as opposed to zero day subs.

I've got a couple things on my list that were supposed to air yesterday (Thurs, 04.06) in Japan, so I'll probably start looking this weekend or next week for the first episodes to be up and ready to go.

^ thanks for advice..after reading some animeblogs I began getting impatient to see the few series that I'm looking out for that are out this week. I'll keep on the lookout and hope for the best since I noticed Kashimashi sorta experienced a fansub slowdown which now seems to be taken care of. :P

I dove into the series with no background information at all. From the title, I assumed it was a harem anime or something. I was pleasantly surprised when it started. Not only are the men beautiful, but the story has quite a twist to it. God, I love those twins too.

I saw this show on a whim last week and was surprised on how good it was.
Of course I knew who Haruhi was already but I still enjoyed it.

Just watched ep. 2. Tamaki is too funny.

My favorite Haruhi moment of the episode.

Haruhi: This is going to far.

Haruhi: Oh well, it's just a kiss on the cheek.

And then she ends up kissing Kyoka on the lips. :)

Episode 3 was truely great, lots of moments that had me laughin in this one:

*Tamaki moaping after finding out how much less time he spends with Haruhi vs Kaorou and Hikaru
*Tamaki calling all the others "gay side characters"
*Tamaki dressing up as Haruhi

Kaoru and Hikaru's performance was also funny, like usual.

I've just watched the fansub of Ouran Host Fan Club episode 1. It was such an awesome first episode. Great and humorous start. I fell in love with this anime from the start. All the bishies in the anime are cool on the outside and inside. I cheered that the Host Club came to the defense of Fujioka Haruhi when that bratty princess accused her of being a violent.

This is really a reverse harem anime, like Fushigi Yuugi and Fruits Basket, but a lot more promising than either of the two.

Why is it in many anime there are two characters with the names Hikaru and Kaoru?
Hikaru and Kaoru- the sisters from Moon Phase
Hikaru and Kaoru- the brothers from Ouran Host Club

Lunar has great subs but they can be slow at times. And there are some series from over a year ago that they haven't finished yet (AIR, Uta Kata, though the latter is due to translator issues). Lunar is more concerned with quality than with getting their releases out the soonest.

I believe two other groups are subbing it as well. Doremi is one, and I don't remember the name of the other. However, they aren't any farther than Lunar yet.

EDIT: The other group is Solar.

I think it aired because Random_Ray (Lunar's translator for that series) said something about "this weeks episode of Ouran" in his blog a few days ago.

The tears just come out from laughing so hard each time I see a new episode and Tamaki makes a total idiot of himself particularly where his ego is involved. I really wanted to die in ep 4 when you see his expression after the twins get him all riled up after closing in on Haruhi with the whole cookie scene. That moment along with some others like when he thought Haruhi had gotten hurt by those to thugs but instead her contacts had slipped out was priceless!

Yeah I think Tamaki is probably my favorite character in the series so far, he always takes things way too far. Love all his pouting moments. His moments in episode 4, already mentioned above were great. Love how the twins antagonized him in that episode, that was definatly my favorite part of 4.

Lostyears..the scene you mentioned was great! I have to say that this series is very uplifting since I always end up laughing. I'm really looking forward to ep. 5...I also like Kyouya's (probably butchered the spelling) business sense...somehow he always finds a way to make sure the club is well funded. The "father" "mother" thing him and Tamaki have is hysterical especially when Tamaki gets shot down with some realistic comment Kyouya makes.

As much as Im a fan of Tamaki I always found the twins equally interesting. The classroom (http://img324.imageshack.us/img324/4773/ohs52ni.gif) and cafeteria had me rolling. The twins are pretty slick too, I was convinced.

Madame De Blurb

I completely agree..the "fight" scenes are hysterical along with the changing hair color. I liked this as much as when Haruhi received the fake love letter in one of the latter episodes and it was being read with a fangirl intonation. The twins are totally in synch and very conniving..loved how it was all a ploy to trick Haruhi into inviting them to her home. This could end up being an amazing love triangle with Hikaru,Tamaki, and Haruhi. I can't wait to see the next one *bites lip*

(The comedy just seems to work better in animated format.)

Anyway...episode 10...ah, the clash between a father and a would-be boyfriend. And, of course, the would-be boyfriend just happens to be a popular ladies' man in a host club! Yes, I definitely want to see how this works out...

I have to admit, though...Tamaki and Haruhi's father do act a lot alike, so it wasn't too surprising to see that these two eccentric personalities would clash. ^_^

Yes. I'm a straight male and I love this show. Plenty of straight guys are watching this show. Heck, most of the posters on the Lunar forums that are watching this are guys.

You need to realize that this show makes fun of a lot of things, particularly shonen-ai/yaoi. The twins' little gay incest thing is just an act.

Yes, the key to this show is that it's a PARODY. :P Any and all BL, implied or otherwise, is used for humorous purposes. That said, this show is extremely funny...probably one of the funniest anime I've seen. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

So far, the anime has left out the Halloween story arc (from volume 3, chapter 11)...though I don't know if that story arc will shown later. The manga, however, basically has the same storyline as the anime (though the events are becoming a little jumbled now that a story arc has been passed by). I think you should sample some of the manga since it's entertaining (though...I must admit, the anime seems more comedic; the jokes just seem to work better in animated format).

So...you should give the manga a try (if only to see what story arcs will happen in the anime before they occur).

FURUBA4EVER
June 12th, 2006, 03:36 PM
I don't find it to be too shoujo (though...I may not be the one to ask XD). Just like the anime, all the shounen-ai hints are fake and used for comedy. Also...I found that the manga had interesting developments between Haruhi and the Hitachiin twins (since those story arcs have not been animated yet...or might never be), so that's a pro for the manga version.

Though...I must admit, the character designs for the anime are much less shoujo-ish than the manga. ^_^

Not any more than the anime is.

The manga is certainly good and worth picking up, but I will say that this is a rare case where I think the anime surpasses the manga. You may be a bit disappointed in the manga some of the time.

No, story-wise it is fine. Its just not quite as funny as the anime. It lacks some of those seemingly random things like the lightbulbs in episode 1 or the monkey and banana peels in episode 10. And some of the jokes just seem to work a bit better animated.

That's not to say it's not funny though. There were plenty of humorous moments and I LOLed several times (which is rather rare for me).

I finished watching episode 11 yesterday and was a bit disappointed with it. I loved the Nekozawa parts, but the way the anime handled his entrance was very off.

I mean really, if Nekozawa is afraid of light so much he has to wear a robe and wig for "protection", then why is he walking around the school without it on? o.O I know they were squeezing this scene in from the manga (the "surprise" this is what Nekozawa-sempai really looks like scene), but still. In the manga it happened at night, at his own home, so it made sense that he would come running to see what was going on unknowingly without his garb. It was a funny scene in the manga, but the anime made it seem out of place.

Other than that, much much LOVE for Ouran~!

I started watching episode 12 raw tonight (the first part) and it's very good. Can't wait to find out what they were actually saying. XD

FURUBA4EVER
June 21st, 2006, 10:12 AM
I agree with everything you said about episode 11, Veradi. While it was still a very nice and funny episode, the Nekozawa scenario could have been handled a bit better. In that respect, though, it's nice that the anime is a bit different from the manga. It's always fun to see different sides of the same story. ^_^

Anyway...I just finished watching episode 12 raw. Cute episode. XD

Finally, we have an episode devoted to Honey (and, to a lesser extent, Mori!). I was happy to see that the bonus chapter from the manga ("Honey's Bun-Bun" from volume 1) was the opener for this episode! Even though it lasted for only about 5 minutes, it was still nice to see animated! Also...the bunny-shaped explosions from Honey's anger were a nice effect. XD

So...the main focus of this episode is Honey getting a cavity and having to refrain from eating sweets until it's fixed. Poor Mori has a lot to deal with in this episode (since he's Honey's unofficial guardian). While having to make sure that Honey doesn't sneak any sweets, Mori also has to face Honey's wrath! It was funny to see that Honey kept going to such lengths just to get sweets! I thought it was so cute...and I couldn't help but feel sorry for him! XD

And now I'm rambling...but this was one of my favorite chapters from the manga. So...I was really happy to see it animated. :P

And the next episode is "Haruhi in Wonderland"! :w00t: Next week can't come quickly enough. ^_^

(Also...I was wondering if anyone had any idea what episode 14 would be about? The title for the episode is "Collect Information on the Rumored Host Club"...but I'm not sure if it will be based on a manga chapter or not. It could be the adaption of chapter 16 [which comes next in the timeline], but I'm not positive.)

If this anime ever goes into filler episodes (or possibly a second season)...I really hope they'll focus a bit more on Mori. And Kyoya. Those two need more spotlight time (especially when compared with how much Tamaki and the Hitachiin brothers have the spotlight).

And who doesn't love Honey and Mori?
I don't much care for Honey-senpai...I'm not a fan of the whole "loli-shota" character and I think he gets really annoying. Mori is pretty cool, though. We definitely need to see more of him since, as you said, the guy hardly says a thing.

Anyway, yeah, since the loli-shota character annoys me, I wasn't a big fan of this episode (12). The beginning was pretty funny though. I might not like Honey's personality, but the fact that despite his size he's a martial artist is awesome. I laughed out loud (which I don't do much) when he responded "I'm still sleepy" to the American.

FURUBA4EVER
June 26th, 2006, 07:57 PM
Well...while I agree that Honey can be annoying sometimes, I suppose that I like him more because of something that was brought up in the original manga. The author (Bisco Hatori) commented about Honey possibly having a split personality or something...so I always thought that element would be nice if it was implemented into Honey's character. XD I doubt it will happen...but you never know. ^_^

Also...when Honey's angry (or I suppose you could say dark) side emerges...he's a force to be reckoned with. :P

I just finished watching it; needless to say, it was an interesting episode. (I've been waiting for Haruhi in Wonderland ever since I saw the episode title a few weeks ago!) It diverged from the manga's version, but, somehow, that made it even more of a fun episode. The ending was quite good as well. ^_^

And the ongoing banana peel gag appears yet again!

Btw, I'd like to see more images of Haruhi with long hair... ^_^

She's definitely levelheaded and got it together in order to not fall for such hot guys...who could have such willpower....not I...I'm one of the screaming fangirls they would be hosting. ;)

^what happened to Lunar...they were so consistent with their releases...has this happened before cause it would seem to be the case from your statement. Granted that I always consider personal issues and lives to take precendence so I figured maybe something of that nature came up.

The translator was moving so that caused some delay. In addition, a lot of the Lunar team is/was on vacation. And yes, this has happened before. There were a few occasions where Bleach was delayed by a couple weeks (namely right after the Soul Society arc ended). Coyote Ragtime Show was also behind, but they released all of the current episodes a few days ago, so we should see more Ouran soon.

But a couple weeks isn't a big deal. Lunar has been releasing episodes of Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch roughly once every 5-6 weeks. Some of us are still waiting for the rest of AIR and Uta~Kata, both of which are 13 episode series that haven't had an episode released in over a year.

I love Tamaki too! He's so dang cute! I like how he is so enthusiastic when it comes to Haruhi, then gets into a total drama queen slump when things don't go his way with her.
I always end up liking the blond boys the best. That's a pattern that's been developing for a while now....

True :/ I'm hoping that Kasanoda wasn't just made up for the TV series so that it can end more quickly. I love the guy and want him to be a recurring character in the manga. *crosses fingers*

I THINK IM GONNA CRY ....OURAN IS OVER! hmmm... how mean, the ending didnt really finish it off completely but then in a way it did as i cant imagine what the next season would b based on now that Haruhi has cleared her debt... but who knows!

It goes up to 27 actually, then it ends :'( Waaaa! As for you lost cause id say give it another try but it may not make a difference, my boyfriend couldnt handle one ep before he fell asleep, the humour is a lil different which is why i think most people like it.

I'm sad that it's over too :( It's going to be hard to find another series like this, unless of course they make a second season. But even if they are, it's going to be a while since the first season covered up to around volume 8/9 of the manga already. Not much material for another season, so I guess we'll have to wait until there's more manga material for them to work with >_<

Don't worry I've seen people like you. People have their own preferences when it comes to anime so if you didn't like it move on to a different one. ;)

Maybe it was the whole rich vs poor structure in the anime. The anime does go a little too far with the exaggeration of the gap between economic classes(Sometimes a bit freaky-like the poor people coffee -_-) and I've seen serious people who criticize this anime saying that it spreads about an unconscious but rather blatant message of beautifying the rich and looking down on the poor.

Anyways I downloaded the last episode today. It's gonna be hard for me to part with this series~!

Maybe it's just me, but Ouran seemed to make fun of the rich as much as it beautified them. True, it did glamorize the lifestyles of the wealthy and put too much emphasis on Haruhi's lack of luxury, but there were also many situations in which the wealthy - not just the host club, but other characters - just looked like complete fools. I guess what I was looking at was the fact that the most sensible character in the entire series was none other than Haruhi herself.

What do you think the chances are of this getting licensed? I was thinking about getting the R2s if it doesn't seem likely. I am not sure whether to hold off or not.

Blue_Bull
September 29th, 2006, 11:38 PM
^I think the chances are quite good. It's a shoujo anime, but goes well beyond that category. It can appeal both genders because of the comedy and its not-so-ordinary style. Even people looking for something more complex would be able to appreciate the ingenuity of the narrative in Ouran.

You should wait, at least for a while.

I am sure this one will get licenced. It IS pretty popular. It may take some time though.
Haruhi Suzumiya will go on the licencing cutting board first.

Mikadzuki Tatsu
September 30th, 2006, 08:35 AM
Besides, the manga was licensed, wasn't it? I'm sure at some point someone will decide to license the anime, as well, especially if the manga turns out to be rather popular.

HitokiriShadow
September 30th, 2006, 09:06 AM
The odds for this getting licensed are pretty high. Sadly, it will almost certainly be by Viz, who recently started a Shojo Beat dvd line and are in need of more titles for it (they only have Full Moon so far) and the only titles they have to choose from (unless they get the anime to something they don't have the manga of) are Ouran, Nana, Aishiteruze Baby (which will probably never be licensed), and La Corda d'Oro which starts airing in a few weeks.
