Let me just answer your question with one simple word: no. It's cheap, but there's a reason for that. Unless you're interested in pretty men or shonen-ai, do not pick it up. The plot was extremely dull. They took so much time to explain what was going on, there wasn't any action. It was as boring as having someone go through their life's history step by step. The only thing that kept me going was the men.

The plot of Mirage of Blaze was confusing and boring. I don't really have much else to say about it. Very slow paced and I couldn't remember anyone's name. I'd only recommend this to those who don't care about plot and character development and pretty faces are enough to please them.

Even though you decided, I'll give my input.
No, I wouldn't recommend it unless you are a shounen-ai or bishounen fan. Even then, it's not good. It's based on novels that haven't been translated, and the viewer was supposed to have knowledge of them in order to completely understand the anime. The names were so confusing that I can't remember who anyone is half the time (except the two main characters, but all the others....nope).

Definitely no. I tried to get into it but quit after two episodes. It was so boring.

Heck yes, get it if you want a complex plot that allows you to read between the lines and draw conclusions. But the thing is you have to watch it in order and you have to pay attention.
Since I really like the shounen-ai genre, it'd recommend it because there is an incredibly complicated relationship between the two main characters. They have a history together that's not fully explained in the anime, which causes you to wonder just what in h_ll happened between those two.
You also wonder why Kagetora (from the Hojo clan 400 years ago) was essentially loaned out to various clans in order to secure alliances. Then you'll wonder what the crap happened 30 years ago, what did Naoe do to Kagetora's soul, and why is Naoe obsessed with Kagetora. Like I said...it's complicated.
However, if you're into regular shounen / sports/ comedy / 'dumb girls giggling with big boobs' type of anime, then you probably won't enjoy it.

If you ever just want to CHECK out an episode, it was on Movieplex on Sundays. I agree though, that one episode alone was a sleeper.

Well, I'd recommend it...as a sleep aid. Seriously, it's real mellow, put you right to sleep. And, I really like the OP and ED.
Anywho, I think the events within the story were easy enough to follow, but if you were to ask me about it now, I probably wouldn't be able to recall a lot. It was just so darned forgettable.
It's like, people are after X character, and the plot mainly involves characters recounting the past to explain why X character is being pursued.
The show was listed on this Shounen-ai/Yaoi forum I belong to, that's why I started watching it. I was looking for a good shounen-ai relationship...there isn't one. The two main characters, Takaya and Naoe, get nowhere. It's all about what happened between them in the past(s). And that's no fun, right?

I've watched it about 3 times and there's no way it could be condensed into something that simple.

They also show it on WAM everyday at 4:30p. I've seen a couple of episodes and it's not my cup of tea.

Hmmm, personally I love Mirage of Blaze. I thought the dub VAs did a great job, especially James Lyon as Naoe. The music is beautiful and moody, just like mostly subdued pacing of the show, and the plot - while complicated - is really intriguing. I love stories with reincarnation themes. It's 13 episodes long - and though it does at times seem like it's hard to keep up with all of the various names being thrown around (who was with what clan, who is reincarnated as who, who is allied with who, etc.), I think it ultimately is a worthwhile watch. The love story is really complex and beautiful. Just make sure if you check out the series that you also pick up the 3-part OVA that follows.

What I've seen of it, I enjoyed it. I do hope the novels get translated. I've been hearing rumors that a company might be licencing it. I think reading the novels will help the series make more sense.

I love Mirage of Blaze. .;_;
Naoe and Takaya have such a complicated relationship. I wish the novels would be translated and that all of them would be animated as an OVA. I believe the OVA from this series was just based on the 9th novel, or something. Gimmeh novel vol 20!!
PS Sub all the way! You gotta hear Hayami's uber sexy Naoe and SekiToshi's angsty Takaya. *nod* FYI, Hayami (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=724) is Aizen in BLEACH, and Seki Toshihiko (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=693) is Duo in Gundam W, among many other roles.
