Learning a whole bunch of Pillows' songs. Started trying to play Naked Shuffle seriously rather than just looking at it in passing. Someone posted part of it live which got me inspired to learn it.
It's one of my favourite songs, it will just take alot of time to learn. I'll have to improve my speed a bit. Oh, and if you can't tell by my signature, Xavier is also one of my favourite songs and I really wish someone would tab that. Good Dreams is such an epic album.

So... is IM down right now for you guys too?
Also, Tidus, just wanted to say I just finished listening to your cover of No Substance and I really, really enjoyed it.
That's cool. I made some mistakes but it was for the most part pretty good. The solo is kinda annoying. Glad you liked it.
AND YES, IM has been down since yesterday.

Yeah, epic pillows songs are so high in abundance... they really know how to crank out the tunes.

Yeah this time it was closer to my house than in 08. 30 minutes and I can take either the highway or street, plus no LA traffic.

You flew to Japan to see them didn't you. LOL
Gray
March 20th, 2010, 02:10 PM
That was for Budokan... when they play in the states it's primarily stuff from thier Little Busters - Happy Bivouac years that people reconize, and one or two newer songs.
Though i've always wanted to go to a stateside show and ask them to play Naked Shuffle.

This is true. But that was their 20th anniversary show in Tokyo! This is going to be a short show in a small venue with three other bands along with them. Plus I don't wanna be part of the FLCL MADNESS.
New York is far from me too, but there would've been tons of IM members there.
DarkNataku
March 21st, 2010, 08:18 PM
I was just messing with him plus I know that its going to be a bunch of FLCL people there. Hey that is how I got into the pillows but like other bands I like I branch out and listen to there older stuff. But flying in to see a 3 hour show in which they will only play about 45 minutes or so is just a waste.

I recently got ahold of Keitaro and he gave me a ton of his tablature. I am knee-deep in Living Fields and Kool Spices.

Man, Good Dreams is such an amazing album, I can't imagine anyone not liking it. One of the tabs Keitaro gave me was for New Years Eve, having a ton of fun with this song. Such an enjoyable tune to play.

Well, I took the plunge and finnaly got around to putting a Cover on YouTube. I seriously need better recording software, but I was jamming and felt like putting this up. It's not a Pillows song, but i'll get to them eventually!
I absolutely love this song, I need to pull one of my friends over to play the acoustic section. It's like one giant solo and sooo much fun to play. I got a bit anxious though and ****ed up some parts near the end.

I can't go, too busy and the shows don't look all that attractive given the price I'd have to pay to go...
But I hope you have fun dude! There's a site I've been to that lists the goods they'll be selling at the California shows. Check Delicious Label website.

Just a random update to bump the thread.
A post over on IM got me hooked on this band Sambomaster, and i'm currently busy working on learning some of thier stuff. They're quickly becoming one of my favourites, here's a couple songs i'd reccomend by them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQO8XQiVymY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6APv3ZbVpg
Also, I have a new camera now and I plan to get back to working on getting some covers up on Youtube. I'm going to do Mighty Lovers some time this week, get that recorded and put up. I will be in glorious Widescreen HD, and i'll also be recording audio independantly with the studio mic.

I have big respect for the guy, thier live shows are great, he always has a ton of energy and improvises solos and even lyrics on the spot for each song to mix it up. He just has fun.

I had their discography at one point, but a lot of their songs sound too similar and over-bearing for me.
I liked the song they had used as a Naruto OP, as well as this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPtIivzu4JQ&feature=related
That's probably my favorite song by them... Still, I can't help but feel they're just an over energetic, more positive version of Number Girl or Blood Thirsty Butchers or something.
Gray
June 6th, 2010, 04:48 PM
They're certainly not for everyone, almost all of thier music is very upbeat, they don't have alot of the brooding melodramatic slow rock that normally inhabits 2 or 3 tracks per album for other bands, Pillows included. Yamaguchi's singing style is also not going to appeal to everyone. As a guitarist I can connect with that energy he has on stage, when he just starts rocking out and having fun, regardless of wether it goes along with the song they're actaully playing or not.

So hello to my new girl. An absolutely beautiful and incredibly rare 1980 Rickenbacker 480 in Walnut. This is truely a one of a kind guitar, you will almost NEVER see one of these in Walnut going for auction. It's stunningly beautiful. The planets aligned and I was able to buy it for an incredible deal.
I'll get some pictures of my own once the guitar arrives, and she'll be getting her first use in my cover of Bye Bye Sweet Pain.

This single is much better than Rodeo Star Mate. As a matter of fact, I'd say it's the best single since New Animal and The Third Eye... which is saying a lot, since I love those singles.
Split Emotion and Gloomy Night are really good b-sides.
Let's hope the album keeps up the pace.

Pretty good album! Better than Ooparts, and I think it's working better than Pied Piper in a lot of places.
Don't know if I can say it's above Wake Up! or anything prior, though.
Still, we've got some rocking songs on here. "Nobody Knows what Blooms" for the win!

Within random searches of google for The Pillows I came across this thread a few times, but didn't feel like signing up for the forums... Well... Now I did... Not sure if you're on the pirouzu forums but...
Merch was the 4 shirts on the website (Nap, pillows, noodles, all ages) some more random all ages crap, and a 10 dollar buster-kun pen. >_> I think there might have been a noodles album in there, too. But that was about it.
Not sure if that's all the merch they'll have for every show but that's what he said... Also, it sucks about Jun... I guess it's better than missing Shin, Sawao, or Manabe but geez, it's Jun! Here's a pic as well (from some site the pillows post images to I guess)

the shirts that are on page 121, the pillows one is $20 and the other two are $15. All Ages also had their own shirts for $15, along with their cds $5 and $10. The noodles had two cds both $15 I think, our first noodles and the music moves me.

So I just got back home!!!! Here's a report:
My girlfriend and I got to the venue around quarter of 5, doors opened at 7. That meant 2+ hours of sitting in line, not that I'm complaining. I made some friends with the group in front of me and for the most time, the time passed pretty quickly. As door time got closer, the camera crew came out and started taking pics/vids of the line and stuff, and the All Ages bassist came out and did the same, pumping everyone up.
Around 7 they opened the doors, letting the Fast Pass ticket people in first, which I neglected to pay the 10 extra dollars for since I already had 10 dollars of Ticketmaster service fees (F YOU TICKETMASTER). Anyway, next time I definitely will splurge for the fast pass, as those guys got prime spots. I was not unhappy with my spot by any means, however. I ran right in and posted up pretty mucch right in front of Manabe, about 2 people behind the gate. My girlfriend went to get my T-shirts (I was going to get the 5 dollar noodles cd but I guess it was just a single?) So I just got the japanese/american buster T-shirt, and one for my brother.
All Ages came out about quarter to 8, and I was expecting the worse after reading the reviews on here, but I have to say I really enjoyed them. The songs weren't awesome, pretty punky for my tastes, vocals especially, but there were definitely 1 or 2 songs I really got into! The bassist, as mentioned multiple times was super fun to watch, him and the singer would switch sides of the stage constantly. The bassist jumped down into the crowd on my side and ran around in the crowd, and the singer stage dived into my side, so I got to touch both of them. The singer also splashed us with his water bottle, which was welcomed at that point. Anyway, it was a good set, aside from the annoying weeaboo's who were being really rude to them. Needless to say, by the end of their set, the bassist was naked save for his red/orange underwear.
Around 8:30, quarter of 9, the noodles came out. As always, Yoko was the only one really worth watching, the bassist was completely blah and the drummer was behind the drums...they played She, Her, Love My Life, Grease, Cover Me Shakespeare, and Ingrid Said, which was enough to make me happy since I'm really not a huge fan/don't know too much of their stuff. Another good set; by then I was pretty deaf and extremely hot.
Around 9:30 the pillows started coming out, it got 40x louder and more compact in the crowd....they just set up and went back in for a bit. Then around quarter of 10 they came out for good. They were met with a roar from the crowd and Sawao did his intro into Dance with God. They went on into the setlist Tidus posted. As a side note, I really don't understand the bashing of the bassist, he was really nice, he moved around a lot, he was fun to watch, he fit in pretty well. So what if his technical skill prohibited a few things? We're lucky we got him at all...
Highlights:
-Sawao pointing his guitar at the crowd like a gun/jumping around like crazy/overall being Sawao
-Mother****ing Swanky Street! That made my whole night, I read it on the setlist when they were setting up and just waiting eagerly, it literally made me swell up
-Manabe's solo in Swanky Street
-Sawao's vocals in Swanky Street
-Sawao's earthquake speech leading into One Life, and then the feel good-ness of One Life
-Manabe smiling at me during Little Busters
-Mr. Droopy (It was just really great to hear that tonight, it hit the spot)
-Rookie Jet was awesomeee
After it ended I waited around as long as possible inside, but the ***** security pushed me out with no pick or setlist...
I was pretty disappointed, but luckily my GF was really tolerant of my super-fan-ness and waited around for an hour outside of the place. We ran back and forth from the side exit to the main exit waiting for them, and after about an hour, we caught them at the main exit. By the time I got there, Shin, the bassist, and the noodles made it into the van. Manabe and Sawao were swamped, but I got Kool Spice signed by both of them (they both gave a very happy approval) and a picture with Manabe, plus one of me and my girlfriend and Sawao (thanks if one of you guys were the one that took the shot). I didn't want to bother Shin since he was all the way in the back of the van, but now it is my mission to complete the tri-fecta.
On top of that, I got a pic with the All Ages bassist, who took his pants down for the pic. Epic.
I got parts of Swanky Street on video, and a few other vids, and a bunch of pics (200+) but I don't have a cable to get them on my comp so I'll put some up as soon as I get them on a disc at the store.
Overall, definitely one of the best nights of my life, such a great time, such a great night!!!

New single coming out soon. I hit up the sample a couple of times. Sounds like it could be pretty great.
