Wow, I'm glad there's a single thread like this now! Thanks miyakarayne, and thanks also for all the great banners. The Full Moon wo Sagashite banner during the winter was one of my favorites so far, too bad it didn't stick around for long.

As for the current banner, I'm not really sure what I think of it... I like Mai-HiME a lot, but that particular piece of artwork has never been one of my favorites. In any case, the banner itself looks great, I like seeing it on top of AN.

Any chance of seeing a Card Captor Sakura banner sometime in the near future? :)

I never realized it, but this actually is a great place to hear all your requests for future banners! While I cannot guarantee that each and every request will be honored, your suggestions will be taken into consideration.

I don't think there has been a Berserk banner at AN, not that I recall of anyway. I notice the banners at AN are often of anime that are not too violent like berserk. Still, I think a Berserk banner would be nice when a new volume of the manga becomes available for pre-order or something. I know Berserk has its hardcore fans.

You can hover above the banner with your clicker, a little window will pop up, although this does not work with my ibook. I tend to click on the banner, the link will direct me to the sale or preorder. In this case, it's a preorder for Gunsword. I've actually never heard of Gunsword. That's probably because I never watched a fansub or downloaded one.

I don't know if your statement was positive or negative, but... I've got to say that, even if they are "American animation icons", the Japanese paid very good tribute to them (as well as the rest of the Disney franchise) in Kingdom Hearts. I'm sure people do a double-take when they see Donald and Goofy in the header.. It probably makes some think, "I didn't type disney.com, did I?"

On a side note: I have yet to break open my copy of Kingdom Hearts II...

Neutral. I wasn't really commenting on the quality of the banner - they're all good artistically, from what I've seen. I think the harshest criticism I've ever made of one of AN's banners was that Skuld looked a little dark in one of them. If that's the harshest thing I can say, then you're doing pretty well. ;)

As for the content of the banner, I think it's good to see icons of American animation held in high enough esteem to get banner time on AN. I know you can't put up characters from every show you're promoting, so the choice of Donald and Goofy for the AN banner is significant to me. It sends the message that quality animation is quality animation, regardless of its country of origin. That's a good message, in my opinion, and one with which the makers of Kingdom Hearts would likely agree.

I am actually very intrigued by the responses that have been received about this banner. I appreciate any response, whether it be positive or negative.

Kingdom Hearts is a Japanese produced video game that includes merchandise such as sound tracks, art books and a manga that we carry here at AnimeNation (see header link). Some of our customers happen to play video games (such as Kingdom Hearts). So, while it may not target your tastes, those people will likely appreciate the banner and/or the merchandise it links to. We are AnimeNation, but due to the diversity of the art form, and the people who like it, we may occasionally provide merchandise (or graphics, in this case) that may not appear to be directed to our purpose, when in fact they actually are. You may have noticed that in addition to our plentiful anime related products, we do carry an abundance of video game related products.

We are, first and foremost, a store. Overall, we want to satisfy our full range of customers, and not just one small group. I do hope you understand, and look forward to whatever surprises the banner may bring in the future.

As a side note: As an anime fan, I'd be happy with Lum all day, every day on the top banner! But sometimes, you just gotta put Goofy up there, you know? ^_~

Not to talk this topic to death, but Kingdom Hearts is also a Square Enix game, and was created by the very men who made the Final Fantasy VII, VIII and X games, Tetsuya Nomura and Kazushige Nojima. :-)

It's not just looks, and if it was, it wouldn't just be about her being 'hot'. Lum has that mixture of sexy/cute/funny that just endears her to me, I guess. She's naive and innocent on a number of points, but she's not a pushover. She's just... Lum. I don't know that I could explain what else it is.

Why does everyone like Shampoo in Ranma 1/2? Because she's... Shampoo. Can't really explain it more than that.

I'm a huge Takahashi fan, Lum is one of her foundational characters, and to me, a character like Lum screams 'anime' more than a lot of other characters I've seen in the AN banner. I just know that if I've got a choice between viewing Lum and that Gravitation banner that never seemed to go away, I'd rather stare into Lum's baby blues. That's all I'm saying. ^_^

At the very least it's a big improvement over the Gundam SEED banner. Hisoka will be glad that he can stop eating 400 tums a day. The banner will help to remind me to watch Naruto since it will be coming out of the filler arc very soon. My interest in Naruto completely died around episode 150, having almost nothing to do with Naruto and more to do with the awful filler. In any case, it's a good change. :thumbsup:

And like Hisoka said, shounen? Good stuff. Not nearly enough of it makes it to the AN banners. :naughty:
