This show is just bizarre. It's like Excel Saga/Cromartie High/Abenobashi weird. I like off the wall, wacky stuff like this. Excel's still my favorite of this particular comedy sub-genre.

I know it's not supposed to make sense. I never said I expected it to make sense. And I know that trying to make sense of it is only going to frustrate me. I still think it's one of the stupidest and most senseless shows I have seen in a long time - so stupid and senseless that it's funny, in a very senselessly stupidly funny way.

It's just that I'm not always in the mood to watch senselessly stupidly funny shows.

when there's too much anime and drama that you just want to curl up and die, there's a show like bobobo that's one of a kind that keeps you watching it. It has an addiction to it. I watched TOONAMI and got sick of all the other shows (yes even Naruto *gasps in crowd*) and i thought that bobobo was going to be like the rest. But i watched hated and found myself watching it the next week. I soon got used to it and liked it!

That's the whole point. She looks like the only normal character, because that's how she was created to begin with. Heppokomaru (called "Gasser" in the dub) is actually another "normal" character.

The "sun character" is Don Patch ("Don Patchi" in the Japanese version), btw. Furthermore, he looks nothing like a sun. If he was, he would be a son of a sun (as opposed to a son of a gun).

I heard there's lots of cultural references and parodies involved in the show and that the dub looses most of it, but thats just what I heard. I haven't seen it subbed and I haven't paid much attention to the dub. What I have seen so far was really annoying but I also felt that way about Excel Saga until I figured it out.

And Shinjuku, yes, many of the jokes have had to be changed because of differences between the two languages. For this reason, I think this show, in terms of translation/interpretation/dubbing, may be a special case (Just like "Kyatto Ninden Teyande" or "Hare Tokidoki Buta" were "special cases"). That is, it would be unrealistic to expect a "faithful" dub, when many of the jokes, puns, and references don't translate very well to "eigo" (or Supein-go, or Itaria-go, or Furansu-go, or Chuugoku-go, or Kankoku-go, or sanshi-go, or Hikaruno-go, or Mahha-go, or Merry-go, or stopn-go, or readyset-go, any other kind of "go").

For instance, "Beauty", should really be called "Byuti", which in this case is a pun on the English word "beauty" ('Course, "Uikipidia" says, that Yoshio Sawai [who wrote the original...paper version with pictures that we read] got the idea for the name when he saw a video for the "beikoku-eiga" American Beauty).

BTW, Bo-bobo is a really strong looking guy, but whenever he "hits like a girl", there's a very good reason...

Seriously though, do you all really hate the show that much. Look, it's not supposed to make sense. It was made that way on purpose. If all you do is constantly try to "rationalize" everything you see, then I think your entertainment options must be very limited.

Both Yoshio Sawai (author of the original manga), and Toei just want you sit back relax and enjoy the ride. It doesn't make sense because it's not supposed to; that's the whole point. It's not meant to insult your intelligence.

Let me put it this way, people who take anime too seriously are....

(I'd say something here, but that would be considered flaming, plus it would sound elitist, and I don't want to get banned.)

It's not that hard to not focus on reality for 30 minutes.

I really think you should give this show another chance. Maybe it is dumb, but that's the whole point. It's all part of the show's artistic sense. Does all of "your" anime HAVE to be Shin Seiki Evangelion? You folks mention Excel Saga. Does humor in "your" anime HAVE to be "adult" oriented in order to "make sense" in your minds?

If you all hate this show because it "doesn't make sense", then I guess you hate Oban Star-Racers because it isn't "100%" Japanese (and because it airs on Jetix)...
