How Popular is Hinata?

Well, how popular is she? I've been thinking about her lately. Alot of people seem to like her character. (I mean anime fans, not the characters in the anime.) I wonder how she is when compared with people who haven't even seen Naruto before...

Personally, I love Hinata; she's a cute character with a cute personality. I like her a lot since I can relate to her personality...although she is a bit more shy than I am. -_-; She's one of my favorite characters in Naruto, and I can definitely see why she's a popular character (although she's probably more popular in Japan than in the U.S., from what I've seen). ^_^

I went with no, I don't mind Hinata as a character... love would be far too large a word to describe what I think, "tolerate" would be a better word -_-; I was really hoping she would mature into a different person, but the only thing I've seen recently of her (fainting) dropped my opinion of her greatly. Hinata is easily my favorite female character in the show. SHe is sweet and shy but more than capable of kicking ***. She was the one good part of the bug filler arc (the last on I really watched, I skimmed the next couple of episodes and then stopped; oh wait, I did watch the stupid curry arc -_-;).

I really hope she has bigger roles in the future 'real' story arcs.

How can you determine that something is a waste of space? If something is in your interest, then to you, it is not a waste of space. But if you aren't interested it, then you consider it a waste of space. It's all in the perspective.

ok, so sakura is a main character, but her involvement has been less than the others, as well as kind of display of skill besides smarts. i dont think i've ever seen her fight. She always has out a kunai when stuff goes down, but the only time she really did anything in terms of combat is when she threw one at Haku's ice mirrors. I mean, heck, even when iruka tested her before the chuunin exams, he didnt even fight her, he used an illusionary jutsu and left, he tested no combat skills just her preception of situations.

Someone like Hinata has no real place in an anime like Naruto.
If you like her story and watching her attemtps to get Naruto to notice her, you're watching the wrong anime- this is about Ninjas that break the fabric of reality to whip out sandstorms and giant fireballs out of their ***, not a schoolgirl crush story.

Actually, the only guy who actually pissed me off was the guy I linked to. His post wasn't just annoying, it was also just plain stupid, if you read it. I mean, the fans outnumber the haters in the poll, which must mean that she's way more popular than he thinks.

As for you, and the others... I'm glad you've started talking a bit more sensibly, but there's nothing in your posts to compare with his. You're right, though. All of us can benefit from trying to see the other guy's opinion, and to respect it. When I first came to this site, I was way too arrogant, but I've stopped doing that now. Mostly. :P

I can see why some people really aren't a fan of Hinata, because she doesn't really develop her ninja skills. She isn't even that skillful at using the byakugan, but what you should maybe look at is that the primary reason she's in the story is not her relationship with Naruto, but her relationship with Neiji. She exists, in my opinion, as an antagonist for him, to make the story of the Hyuuga clan that much more interesting. Personally, I love Hinata; she's a cute character with a cute personality. I like her a lot since I can relate to her personality...although she is a bit more shy than I am. -_-; She's one of my favorite characters in Naruto, and I can definitely see why she's a popular character (although she's probably more popular in Japan than in the U.S., from what I've seen). ^_^

Exactly. She is fluff. The extra on the side that doesn't mean anything. The crush was just thrown in there, not to be a major plot point, but to build up her confidence for the exams. Otherwise, she really has no purpose. She looks cute (although I think her eyes are freaky) and that's about it. Just another cute character for people to get obsessed about for no specific reason.

Exactly my point. My argument isn't if shes a main character. Read the title and the question on the poll. Understand the concept, then debate. I don't give a crap if Hinata's not 'part of the main plot'. It's like a Beethoven Symphony, sometimes, you want to listen to the secondary voices, and not just the main voices. Oh, I stopped watching the fillers back after the stupid Curry of Life arc (roughly 158). I skimmed a few eps after that and then stopped.

One fansub group even put "There is absolutely nothing worth watching in this episode" in the episode after the curry arc. Naruto and some others take the young ninjas-to-be camping or something. Yeah, it was stupid. I skipped to random points and watched about 5 seconds of that episode.

I skimmed the next 2-episode arc (Bounty Hunter arc) and then decided to wait for the new episodes.

The Bug arc was a good arc for Hinata fans though. That was the only reason I watched that arc.

EDIT: Saw the image. She just looks 'chubby' because she's wearing a loose fitting sweatshirt.

My argument isn't if shes a main character. Read the title and the question on the poll. Understand the concept, then debate. I don't give a crap if Hinata's not 'part of the main plot'. I said same personality, not same story or physical skills. I always liked Hinata becuse she is a flawed character who admits to her flaws and tries to improve upon them.

Alot of people fail to understand that in the LONG term Hinata is a pretty important character. Why? Becuse she's pretty much set to be the main characters love intrest down the road.

Sure she didn't do much in part 1 but they where like 12, 13 do you honestly expect kids that age to really start dating? *laughs* At the very least she severed her purpose in part one by setting up the fight between Naruto and Neji which would go on to impact the story in large ways.

I'm betting you right now that after 2 years of training she's pretty kick *** and alot more confident... Sure she fainted upon seeing Naruto again but he did suprise her and their's the fact that her feelings only intensified over time. They DO say absence makes the heart grow fonder...

People need to remember that the auther has said time and time again that he is set to take the story well into the future when the characters are adults. And as Naruto's possible eventual Girlfriend/Wife that means she'll have a larger role to play as time goes by.

In fact, she's up with my all time favorites hands down. ^^ I was completely taken in by her shy, sweet, kind personality, and because of the events of the anime that I've seen, I've stood with her all the more. Kawaisou, she hardly gets any attention at all, even when she nearly died. :'( Ganbatte, Hinata!!
