I just finished Mai Otome. While not nearly as good as Mai HiME, it was still enjoyable. And the ending is actually better since it doesn't revive everyone who was killed off.

Gungrave-Just finished. WOW! This show took me by surprise, although I shouldn't be since its from those who gave us Trigun.
Characters were well developed, dramatic plot(especially the 1st half), I was satisfied with the ending too. Brandon Heat is one of my favorite bad @sses.
Mai Otome- It was OK, enjoyed the few high points. Liked the last episode more than Hime's, but not close to that series.

That reminds me of oil and water. They just don't mix. Glad you liked Gungrave. It's seriously one of the best series I've ever seen. Talk about addicting right? I just couldn't put it down from start to finish. Is it even possible to watch it slowly? Anyway, there are key scenes that I think about all the time. The plot and characters left a lasting impression on me. Gungrave is as powerful as they come.

Gungrave is as powerful as they come.No kidding, after the first episode I was watching 2-3 even 4 ep. at a time(kind of like how I did with Monster). Started it last week, in fact this is the fastest I've ever finished a 26 ep series.
There were alot of strong moments that stuck with you throughout the show.
Next one I'll finish will be Gunslinger Girl(put it on the back burner for a while), a quarter of the way through with Planetes, and I'm thinking about starting School Rumble.

I just finished the Saint Seiya Asgard arc eps 74-99. Don't ask me how I'm watching these either. :P It was damn awesome and some of the best filler I've ever seen. If I didn't know it was filler ahead of time I probably wouldn't of been able to guess. The continuity was great and perfectly leads back into the canon. Seriously though, why isn't this series called Saint Shiryu? If it's meaningful and awesome it's because Shiryu is doing something! The guy is just that damn cool. Too bad he looks so much like Kaifun... *cringe* (Macross).

One of my top favorites^_^ Yeah Hiltz was an insane ancient Zoidian, he goes on a huge killing spree & blowing up entire cities.
He was unstoppable, nothing could defeat him in the Death Stinger. Not a fall from space, not magma/lava and not even the gravity gun which is like a black hole that crushes everything could stop Hiltz. It was nice to see the good guys struggle so badly.
"How wonderful to see them all together, unwittingly gathered in their own coffin. Lets turn this little party into a funeral. Nobody's getting out of that grave alive!" - Hiltz

The style of comedy was very much to my liking and I got a huge kick out of Harima. The whole cast was great and complimented each other nicely. Now I have to watch the OVA and be thankful that there is a 2nd season. OP/ED are both great btw.

Ditto with the School Rumble. It's such a great anime. When I first watched the first two episodes, I found it annoying because I'm not used to such romance-orientated storylines. But the comedy and the characters grew on me, and now I can't wait until the 2nd season. The OVA is great too.

If this is a bad anime compared to the game, then the game must be the culmination of all things holy.

Last Exile is the most recent one I've finished. Good but not wow-wow for the first 13 eps, and excellent and gripping in the next 12. As for the finale, I found it to be a +/- ending. Yesterday I watched the last two volumes of Saikano. Show was very strange. Better than a lot of Gonzo crap (Trinity Blood, Bakaretsu Tenshi) but worse than some of their best titles (Last Exile, Kaleido Star).
Unlike some shows, this one didn't get to me. Maybe it was because I didn't really like one particular character or maybe its just the way the show played out.
Either way, I'm glad that I just rented the title from Anime Takeout and didn't buy it. Not something I wanna own.
If you want a much better, war time anime drama, check out Now and Then, Here and There. If you want a better Gonzo title then get Last Exile. Saikano as a whole is just a very average series.

Similiar reaction here.
I enjoyed Eva the first time around, definitely, but the second time through about a year and a half later, concluding with The End of Evangelion was a much great[er] experience all-together than in my first run through. Dude, is GTO live action better than the anime?
No, GTO Live-action isn't as good as the anime or manga. It has many major differences from its manga and counterparts. Urumi Kanzaki never existed in the live-action version, Nanako was made a part of Class 2-4, Yoshikawa was tormented by Miyabi instead of the other girl, etc. but the live-action certainly captures the spirit of GTO.

I found it to be very enjoyable, with a nice emotional ending. A bit of a surprise since it's a Gainax title, but they didn't try to get all weird with the end. Oh sure, there were some twists put in there, but they weren't the type that left you thinking "wtf?". They fit with the tone of the show. I'd certainly recommend watching it.

The music just being the old soundtrack blew me away. I wasn't expecting that at all and it was pleasant surprise. I'm not a huge fan of digicel and probably never will be, but this show was beautiful. The backgrounds were darkly shaded and it wasn't too bright. School Rumble- One of the best school comedies I've seen in a while.
Harima was great. Such a conflicted character I couldn't help but root for him, Tenma was equally awkward and hilarious. Karasuma was a very peculiar character, a believable alien(if that were the case).
Like how the show didn't just focus on 1 or 2 love interest but was pretty much everywhere when it came to the triangles that were going on. Kept you interested and guessing. I actually wouldn't mind Harima and Yakumo or Eri, that whole misunderstanding was funny btw.
Very weird ending -_-; that left me wanting more and I'm glad that there is.

As for me it would be Gun Frontier just a little while ago. Another solid installment in the Matsumoto universe. The DVDs cost me nearly nothing for the whole collection and it's well worth it. The best part of this series was the small cast of only three. They meshed really well together. I have a question: How many projects on Type-MOON company have?
So far, for anime, they just have Lunar Legend Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night. And if you mean the games, there is also Fate/Hollow Ataraxia, which is a spin-off/sequal of some sort to Stay Night.
There is also a game called Melty Blood but I don't know if that is from Type Moon or if someone else made it.

School Rumble and School Rumble OVA
This show was, in a word, awesome. One of those shows that took a bunch of pieces and put them together in the best possible way. Harima and Eri are some of the more entertaining characters that I've seen lately, not to say that the rest of the cast was lacking in any way. Even the random members of the cast, many of whom ended up being of little long term importance, were given a lot of focus. The music was great and the style was perfect for the show. Certainly a show that I had high expectations for based on word of mouth, it constantly suprised me.
Knowing I have a 2nd season ahead of me certainly makes me very happy as well. I can't wait to see more. (Man, that was a lot longer post than I intended to make)

We just finished watching Dai Guard today, which I picked up at the ADV valentine day sale for like $10. I had some high hopes for this series, and at the same time was deathly afraid it would end up a complete flop. But for the price, I took the chance, and I'm not sorry I did.
A great story, lots of action and comedy, we were rather sad to see it end. The only complaint I have is I would've like to see more closure to the story, but it was still great and is among my list of favourites.

The Rose of Versailles
I adored this show beyond any words that I could possibly come up with to describe it. Right now, there exist for me two categories of anime.
1) Shows that are The Rose of Versailles
2) Shows that are not The Rose of Versailles
Honestly, it isn't fair for me to compare it to other shows, because it is not like other shows. RoV is in a leagure all of its own. The show has one of the most unique paces to it of anything I have ever watched. Characters are carefully developed over 40 episodes that span more than two decades of history. Some characters grow and learn while others are slowly drawn into hopeless spirals of fate. The music is beautiful, at times calming and others sorrowful. One of the more impressive soundtracks I've had the pleasure of hearing to be sure. The art just blows me away. How I wish that this style had lived on until today... The hair and eyes are without a doubt the most beautiful I've ever seen in anime. Besides all of the things mentioned above, the directing on this show was awe inspiring. The use of light, and mirrors, along with beautiful still frames and amazing backdrops are only a few of the things that stand out in my mind.
I could very easily go on all day about it, though I doubt that many would care to read it. In any case, here is my final opinion: This show is a true Masterpiece in every sense of the word.

Planetes- Pretty good title, it was very different from your typical formulatic shows or space anime's for that matter. Its alot more than just about space age garbage men as you would get from the premise.
The world feels very real and you can connect with most of the characters, nothings really exaggerated. Liked how it doesn't entirely revolve around Hachimaki but a multiple of characters all with their own agenda and problems. The plot does throw up alot of real world issues along with some moral ones, because the characters are fleshed out very well we get many different insights and messages from it. The constant character development was great along with the 2nd half and the slice of life moments are the strengths of the show, comedy is mostly hit or miss. The finale wasn't as philosophical as I thought it would be and it was a good one, nothing really spectacular.
Won't go into to detail but this is something different thats worth checking out.

Well, after a nearly two year long absense of Evangelion from my life, I finally decided to go back and watch it in it's original Japanese (The first two times I watched Eva was before I watched Subs). Well, the Japanese version is incredibly better, and it's amazing how much I'd forgotten about all the things I loved in Evangelion, and after watching it in Japanese, I can say a like those things about it a lot more than I did before. As of today, I finished Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny.
And I hate to admit it, but most of the time, I enjoyed it. :censored:
It had, of course, some major flaws; The neglection of Shinn, Luna and the other main characters in favor of Kira, Athrun and Lacus was the one that irked me the most, followed by the feeling that the producers didn't seem to know themselves where the series was going. The Plot Shields of Unbelievable Invincibility annoyed me, too, not to mention that the Gundams were far too overpowered. The ending was a dissapointment, but I'll watch Final Plus later. Hopefully, they didn't just include more recycled action scenes... The constant recycling of animation, along with the flashbacks and recaps, suprisingly, didn't annoy me nearly as much. I guess that watching SEED and lately, Fate/Stay Night has made me immune or something to that effect.
Still, it had its good sides, too. I found Shinn to be (even though he was handled quite badly) a good main character, and I have to admit that he's one of the main characters in Gundam that I can relate to the most, possibly save for Camille. The Shinn/Lunamaria thingy was a pleasant suprise to me (actually, I had been hoping for it since Ep 10-ish), even though it was a bit forced. Yzak was, as always, awesome.
In short, it's really not my favorite series, but it wasn't the steaming pile of crap that I expected it to be. Far from the best Gundam out there (in fact, one of the worst), but I thought that it was mostly enjoyable.
I never thought that I'd be saying this, but if Shinn were given a new chance as a main character, I don't think that I'd really mind a third SEED.
...
Please, someone kill me now. :crybaby:

And I hate to admit it, but most of the time, I enjoyed it. :censored:
Most of the time, everyone enjoyed it. That's why it was so much of a let-down that it should be so meh in parts.
I've been in the middle of about a dozen things for weeks now. The last thing I actually finished was Zeta for the third time.

It's addictive though, as I'm starting to realise. This time, as soon as I saw the last episode I was already thinking... "I could fancy seeing that (much earlier) bit again..." :D

I finished Aria the other day and It's nice to know the second season is already airing. The faces the characters make are all priceless and the tone of the show is just very nice for a change. I liked the story and how everything was pulled off. The character development was nice since everyone had their moment in the spotlight. It's a good show.

Initial D 4th Stage was damn good. It started up right where 3rd Stage left off and got right to the point. The more episodes I watch the more I realize that I really like Initial D. The music was amazing as always and I really like the duo of Takumi, Ryousuke & Keisuke being the main characters. 4th Stage really cut to the chase and was all about great races one after another. I highly recommend the whole series and hope more is eventually on the way.

Watched the platinum version of End of Evangelion for the first time yesterday.
Do you mean Japanese Renwal? Or the newer boxset of the movie(s)? There's no "Platinum" titled version of the movie.
Unless they distributed diffrently where you are...
I wish to see it, probabaly won't for ages.

Another series comes to a close. That being Orphen Revenge. Not as good as the first season, yet good enough. The change in pace was fine, though I prefered the more seriousness of the first show. The more I think about it the less sense of there being a second season to begin with makes. It didn't really need one.

I really liked Orphen Revenge, its just the first episodes that are filler & the poor animation quality in the first episodes is when the show was lacking the most. But yeah, not as good as season 1.

Heat Guy J- A great show, there wasn't an episode that wasn't entertaining. The characters including the sides were very interesting and the force driving the show. Animation & music were top notch. The only negative thing about it were the vague explainations on some of the details, like the different cities, the organizations too name a few. The ending was satisfying. Other than that I wouldn't mind seeing more. J is one of the coolest androids in anime. Recommend this to anyone.
Karin- Finished this about a week ago, the beginning through the half was meh. The later half towards the end were the best parts IMO. Comedy was either hit or miss, but when the show became serious it was really good. Think it could of been better if it was a little bit more dark, but the cutness was tolerable. The concept of an Unvampire and prefrences was very interesting. Satisfying ending as well, alot better than I expected. Especially Karin's semi transformation ;)

I just finished up Monster for the 2nd time. The replay value was fantastic and I was addicted all over again. It only took me a few days to watch once again and it simply doesn't get much better then this. There isn't a whole lot to say about it that I haven't a bunch of times already. Recommended more then almost anything.

Finished my... I dunno, nth rewatch of Elfen Lied not too long ago. I've started to read the manga, too... While the art did put me off a bit at first, the manga is, indeed, even better than the anime. But the anime's got Lilium, so I guess it's somewhat of a tie...
Levon
May 26th, 2006, 03:07 PM
Yeah the manga is better because it really goes into details about Diclonius & Kakuzawa's actions. In the anime I wasn't really sure if he & his son were Diclonius or not because they don't really talk about it but in the manga its explained. It also went more into detail about how the Diclonius affect humans, why Bando needed his balls cut off:lol:

 The scene with Kouta & Yuka durring that raining scene where he holds her. That was very funny in the manga but in the anime its not really funny since that scene was changed to be more serious.

No, but knowing me and the fact that you mentioned it I probably will soon. What's your thoughts on it?
As for me, I finished Kidou Shinsengumi Moeyo Ken TV last night which didn't really appeal to me one bit. It tried far too hard to be funny and turned out to be anything but that. As for the plot... oh that's right, it didn't have much of one. :P On a good note, the OP/ED very some good songs.

^ It's funny you say that because I just finished Dirty Pair Flash. While it was pretty good I couldn't help but compare it to the original and felt it was no where near as good. It was missing the classic Dirty Pair feel and I wasn't as fan of the changes the character underwent. Thought I only paid a ridiculously cheap $11 for the collection and recently bought the OVA & Movie boxsets which should do the trick.
