lol I meant, what is your definition for a platform game?
and I want to play megaman all of a sudden
I define platform as obstacles in a game that you have to get through to reach the end of each level. For me, the best PS2 platformer was the Sly Cooper series. It set the tone for me in terms of platforming. Rather than being limited to just a simple jump Sly had his cane to help him get from point A to point B and he was also able to hang from wires and just about anything.
Granted it was a stealth platformer, but it still had the key elements of your typical platformer. Getting through a sh!tload of obstacles while quietly taking out the enemies on each stage without being noticed.
But yeah, jumping from one area to the next with the obvious death gap in between is what a platformer is to me. You can almost say Prince of Persia was a platform game as well. Thats just me though. Everyone has a different perspective to what a platformer should be.

after talking to other people what the platform game is, I can understand why you guys consider it kirby canvas curse a platform game.
I guess I don't really recognize kirby as a true platform game, because you're navigating through the level by creating platforms, instead of jumping to platform to platform.
So I guess it really depends on what you think is a platform game. But kirby is still a new style of game, even if not everyone considers it a new genre. So you have to at least give credit to the ds for that. though a pda or other handheld consoles can probably handle a game like kirby canvas curse, I don't believe we've seen a game like kirby before.

psp, I hate nintendo, they exploit stupid people.
"here i our new DS, it's more expensive, can't play GBA games and is smaller but it has 4 LEVELS OF LIGHTING, WEEEEE!!"
It's the same price.
It can play GBA games
It is smaller
It does have 4 levels of brightness, which cause it to kick the already awesome Original DS' ***.
...You know absolutely nothing about the DS Lite, please stop talking about it as if though you hold an inkling of a clue. ...You do not.
For unique gaming that simply is not possible with any other form of gaming system, go with the DS.
Most good PSP games get released onto the PS2, anyways,... so why bother? Just get yourself a PS2 or hold out for a PS3 (if you think the system will succeed or that the system is worth the cost).

Old school 2D Megaman. There is NOTHING else that can define platforming(2D at least) as well as Megaman. And the only game that comes close to me is Gunstar Heroes.
And as for 3D platforming, theres a sh!tload of them. Crash Bandicoot, Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank, and Mario Sunshine.

Yes that Operation, its not a realistic simulation game but if you wana consider Turma Center one then why not the board game.
Yes Kirby is a platfromer with inovative features. Seriously people all these DS games have inovative things but they are not genres on to themself.
Show me a single game like Elektroplankton.

Its a platfromer with a uniqe control dude. Insted of jumping you use the stylus. What would you call the game?Atleast is has SOMETHING new...
What about the platformers on PSP? Some new coins? Or maybe fruit? A new weapon? Oh yawn...
The basic idea behind Operation and Trauma Center is the same ( Not enough dexterity and accuracy? Youre fired! ) but operation isn't anywhere as serious as Trauma Center. Also, the realism factor is totally different.
And I wouldn't even wan't Trauma Center to be an accurate surgery simulation. That wouldn't be anywhere near as fun as it is now.
Too much realism is a double-edged sword: sometimes it creates a very good game, while sometimes it just ruins it.
It's still impossible to argue, that DS doesn't have innovation. The PSP is a very conventional and familiar system and has more familiar games. The DS is fiddling around with new ideas, and produces a lot of new, interesting gameplay.

I'm not arguing the fact that the DS has inovative games. I just said I dont think any of the games have created new genres.
As for Elektroplankton, from what I read about it its a music game. Since thats what I got form what I read, I had no intrest in playing it as I dont like music games.

Calling it a game at all is pushing it. It's the prime example of how the DS can and has created new genres, and until you actually play it, your point is moot.

Elektroplankton is more like a sound mixing program. You mix the sounds, melodies and even your own recordings to make "music" or just noise.
You could get some fun tunes from the game, but I'm not sure how long it would interest me, unless I could get Master of Orion-like "space music" from it. I have a weird affection for that kind of music...
And so what, if Phoenix Wright wasn't on the DS first. DS has Phoenix Wright, and I, for one, love the game. I haven't had as much fun in years with any other game.
Propably the main appeal of the game is it's characters. A spiky-haired defensive attorney, a silly spirit medium, a serious prosecutor and a judge, who doesn't know what a DJ is. These are the main characters in the game. A simple detective & courtroom game has characters, that equal that of RPG characters, easily.
Some jumping furball with a gun just isn't a decent character...

I wasent trying to say that the game was bad are anything. You said that the DS has brought new genres such as court room drama. That kinda implyed that you thought the DS version was the first game. I was mearly correcting that.

Yeah, well, tell me a new genre, and I'll give you a similiar game, that has some similiarity to that "new" genre.
I think it would be better to say, that the DS refreshen old genres and even mixes them together, instead of creating completely new ones.

Notice, two wholy different characters. I've always loved X, since he is more serious than ordinary Megaman and looks more... streamlined. But I wish they'd come up with more story between the Mavericks and X... Still, even as simple as it is, the Megaman X series has my vote instantly over Dexter. Or even Mario!
And what about Alucard in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night? DO NOT tell me, that you think Dexter is a better platformer than CSotN?

As it has been stated earlier a few times in this conversation, DS is region-free, like GBA.
I've gotten hands-on expirience with DS Lite. I don't fully understand, what the amazing craze about the Lite is. It weights practicly the same, and feels more clinical, almost like a hospital DS... It's the shape and whiteness that gives that impression.
I didn't get enough expirience to test it's ergonomicality, but I reckon it might be a little easier to hold in bigger hands over longer periods of time.
The screen brightness can be altered to three levels, but remember: more light means less play time. More light needs more energy.
And as I've said before, the choice goes down to taste. Neither of the consoles is better than the other.
Unless you claim that. In that case, I got two words for you: sales charts.

I beg to differ. :D A real gamer chick would be more impressed with a DS and something cool and nostalgic like Tetris DS or the New Super Mario Bros. Stupid chicks dig guys with a PSP, and smart chicks dig a guy with a DS and Brain Age. :D The DS is far superior gaming-wise to the PSP with its piss-poor games. Heck, even kids aren't playing games on the PSP, they're watching or looking at porn.

Areith reminds me of Aerith, which is from final fantasy 7 on the playstation. So I suggest you name your Dslite, Cremia from Zelda. Cremia and aerith, sort of remind me of eachother..

I personally think you should get a PSP. The DS may have better games as of now but the PSP games were rushed due to how early the DS was released. Currently, better games are in production. Also, audio and video features are really awesome to have on a handheld videogame system. The DS has better internet browsing as of now, but once the PSP keyboard comes out, it'll be better. So yeah, the PSP, in my opinion, is the better buy. But it's all your preference.

I'm seeing several interesting DS releases upcoming, and DS links up with Wii. Does the PSP link up with PS3? Atleast I haven't heard anything... >_>
You can propably link up the DS with Wii this easily:
Choose download play from the DS main menu and wait a little. Then play. DS is capable of storing downloaded wireless information, after all.
And why use a DS for a controller? What if, for an example, an RPG doesn't really use the Wii's own controllers functions? I'd rather have a DS as a controller "tool" instead of the normal controller. The screens on the DS could display two times useful information, and the touch-screen feature could work wonders on an RPG. ^^

The PSP indeed DOES hook up to the PS3 and can do some pretty cool things.
1)use it as a rear view mirror in Ridge Racer... ok that sucks
BUT!!
2)use the PS3 as a server and streamvideo/audio to your PSP ina remote location... Thats awesome.

FPS games could make use of the DS as a 2nd controller. Use ti to lok at remote cemeras you've placed, etc. The ideas for FPS uses with handhelds as an actuall tool for the game have been arround for years (Think first serious talk about it was with Perfect Dark back on N64).

I have both a DS (Now a DSL) and a PSP and I must say both are great but not with out flaws.
The DS is a great handheld system, Sexy (well the DS lite anyway), great library and as someone said an alarm clock :P, but Even though the games are fun, their not GBA games. What I mean is, DS games are fun but after a while you put it up and let them sit for a while. I have like 10 games for the DS and I only play 2 religiously (Mario Kart DS and Advance Wars DS) but the others lost fire quick IMO. Still better games than the PSP, but lose longevity quick. Also if you like your GBA games (and who doesn't) there's another reason to get it if you haven't done so already, My only gripe with it is the GBA games stick out awkwardly at the end (Only for the DSL not DS fat). It's a great buy, cheap system, cheaper games and a better, albeit not for longevity, library.
If your a tech ***** like me, you have to get a PSP. It's a sexy, sexy system. MP3, Video, Internet and games on one handheld system for so cheap (It's expensive in a gaming spectrum, but relativity cheap when your interested in the other functions). But the games...unless you like ports, I'll be frank, they suck. When the DS lite came out I trade my old DS and like 4 PSP games without hesitation to get my DSL. But I will say one thing, When a PSP game is good, It's fuking good. I've only played two "great" games on the DS (Daxter and Syphon Filter) and they were great and I'm not really a graphics person but It sure does help. I've never bought a UMD (and never will) but when I'm not playing games on it (which is a lot) I usually watch some anime I put on it and listen to some music since my MP3 player is on the fritz. If it wasn't for that I would have maybe sold my PSP, also to get the full capabilities you "HAVE" to get a 1 gig or higher (Which isn't to expensive but when your buying the system, it's a hit in the wallet).
Bottom line, It's up to you. But I see owning either a DSL or a PSP is like holding one piece of a missing puzzle, but when put together, it's like Yin and Yang :P .
