So, anybody else watching? The first episode was pretty good, and laid the grounds for an excellent plot. Not having another episode for fouteen days is a little annoying, but seems as though it will be worthwhile.

Oh, and the first person to ask if this is like WHR gets kicked.

The 25th is the official air date, but the first episode was already shown.

As for the Op, it is by Radio Head. A track they did in '97 called Crazy Proxy.

i checked and yes, they have shown the 1st episode. im getting it now. and another good thing -MANGLOBE. anybody who's seen samurai champloo knows that manglobe means business when it comes to animation.

I'll start with this as soon as I'm done with Shakugan no Shana. It looks interesting enough, almost like a certain witch hunting anime I know about...

Crazy Proxy? What the hell, it's supposed to be Paranoid Android.

I'm going to be disappointed if it isn't.

Also apparently this was a promotional airing, so don't expect episode 2 anytime soon.

it is Paranoid Android. There was some kind of wire cross with the anouncer.

And I already said the official styart is the 25th. -_-;

Is it like Texhnolyze?

Edit: Is it not subbed yet, or is Animesuki listening it as something else, or is it licensed or what?

It's licensed by Geneon.

Don't expect it any time soon. Shakugan no Shana was also licensed by Geneon, and it is on its 18th episode with absolutely no dvd release in sight. This show hasn't even officially started yet, so you might be waiting upwards of a year to see it on region 1 dvd. I say get the torrents fansubbed and then buy them when they are released, but don't wait if you really want to see this.

That picture almost looks CGI, doesn't it? I'm not overly big a fan of CGI but I do appreciate CGI especially in Macross Zero and Last Exile, both of which were spectacular. That person in the picture looks....gothic. Hmmm, I'm going to see it someday.

I can't wait to see this, I really love the way manglobe does animation, and this series looks particularly pretty, judging from the preview I saw. Ha, I only wish they could release it on DVD sooner, but I guess I'll have to be patient. :/

Episode 1

The advertising blurb of this series says, "Ergo Proxy, The Agent of the Death, it's a malicious plan plotted by the Creator -- sci fi psycho-suspense anime with a HDTV (Hi-Vision) format and 5.1 surround soundtracks". This anime requires a HDTV digital-tuner/display and 5.1 surround audio system. The picture of episode 1 in high resolution mode is really sharp, clear and beautiful. The sound using 5.1 surround audio makes the scene alive. Some Japanese anime fans, that may or may not be true, bought HDTV hardwares, audio instruments for 5.1 surround system and signed up for satellite TV broadcaster WOWOW in order to watch this show. Anime is an expensive hobby. The first episode was aired on 5th of the current month to promote the show, but its official start date is scheduled on 25th. This series will be 23 episodes in total.

I was satisfied with the high quality animation and sound in episode 1, though there're a bit too many dark scenes in it. The animation style is strongly colored with Naoyuki Onda. I'm curious how long the current quality is going to be kept. The character design and art design are stylish and elaborate.

It's rather hard to understand what is going on in ep.1. I couldn't figure out that both of two humanoids at the last scene were Proxy until I heard a comment on it. I have some concerns about the scenario by Dai Sato, a chief writer of the series. It seems to me that he's a very erratic writer. In one instance, he makes a really good job and then in the next, he hideously botches up it. Watching ep.1, I have a bit bad feeling about it. I just hope that he makes out with his job.

There are some flaws in staging several scenes of ep.1, I mean, I didn't see what the screen-director was getting at in some scenes. Or maybe I'm weak in the head? BTW, I wondered why Iggy was using female speech in spite of his manlike appearance. As it turned out, Iggy is an autoslave that woman-type AI was installed on its system.

Likewise, I mentioned in "Viewing Journal" last week that the character models are poorly drawn in some scenes, and especially the first half of the episode really feels like it's more disjointed, chaotic style than substance. Too early to call, but I hope this show turns out well.

I read on atease (http://ateaseweb.com) yesterday that they were using a Radiohead song as the OP, so I decided to check this out. I couldn't get the trailer on the site to work, but from what I've seen/read it looks interesting. I'll keep my eye on this.

I'd need to watch it in a better setting to make a good judgement. I like hooking the fansubs up to my television to view them because the picture comes out clearer. I do remember liking the character designs for the autoslaves, not because they look good or flashy, but because they look real. If humans designed robots to act as assistants, it would make sense for them to design them in their own image but distinguish them enough so that nobody would treat them as humans. Then of course you would have another market for people who use autoslaves as companions, giving them more human-like features. It's well thought out and doesn't suffer from the "it's anime so we'll draw the robots like humans to give them sex appeal" (Chobits, Solty Rei).

And yes, watching the first episode I got the impression of implied storytelling. You're supposed to assume a lot of things. Maybe it's because a lot of us don't speak Japanese that we don't pick up everything. I also think we're not supposed to know everything. It seems intentionally ambiguous, perhaps to a fault, but you can't really say that until you give it a chance.

As for that, it's Paranoid Android (!!!) but we don't get to see it until the official airing on the 25th. The fact that it's Paranoid Android really intrigues me. It really fits the theme of the show. I'm curious to see how they edit it though, because it's a 6 minute song that was originally 2 songs until Thom mashed them together into its frantic brilliance. Will they use the opening guitar, will they mix in the rain down bridge, will they use the insane solo at the end? I'm probably more interested in that than anything else.

Watched ep.1. The series has a GITS and WHR feel to it. The fighting scenes looks really good. But not as amazing as Samurai Champloo. But maybe I'm just expecting too much. Ril (Lil, Liru, Rilu or however her name is translated :P) looks really cool. But I wish he assistance Iggy would look better. The setting is interesting, but need to watch a few more eps before saying anything about the story.

I've been waiting for this show since I first heard about it several months ago. Since it's done by Manglobe, I have very high hopes for it.

Could someone by any chance PM the link for the fansub of the first episode? I couldn't seem to find it anywhere. Also, anyone got a clue as to which subber(s) will be picking the show up when it goes into regular airing? It'll probably be a while before Geneon releases it over here, and I really want to watch a few episodes to tide me over until the R1 DVD gets released.

For me, there's been kind of a drought of good stuff lately - I've been waiting for another fantastic title to come and kick my in the head, and it looks like Ergo Proxy could be it. I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode. Futuristic dystopias never get old, at least for me, and it seems that we're getting set up for a deep and layered story. Can't wait to find out more. And the visuals are stunning.

Are there major differences between the episode aired a month ago and the official episode 1? I don't want to download the same thing again, if the only difference is an OP.

Caught ep.2, it was pretty good.
Starting to feel Jil's frustration, as cool as that city looks it just seems dull. Some of those autoraves are annoying, Iggy's cool. Even though he's being somewhat controlled.
That mall scene was crazy.
I'm really into the proxy.
Whats Vincent's connection with them, could he be one? Final scene left me wondering.

^That person could be the one we see in the very beginning of ep.1 in the tunnel, never see his face though. Just my guess. Whoever he was, he was on that train while Vincent was dreaming.

What I'd like to know is what happened at the end of 2. Vincent was cornered by the other Proxy, but he didn't seem all that worried.
Is there a connection to the larger one, the big one was the one who fell into the tub where his necklace was found. It would seem so.

Anyway, looks like a bunch of fs groups are getting on the band wagon and rightfully so. Might check out the Shinsen version.

Can't wait for ep.4

Like where the show is going so far. The commune episodes were kinda depressing but thats probably the mood they were trying to convey.Vincent is finally going to where he was born, get some answers. I still find him an intriguing character, even though Pino is with him he still considers himself alone. I'm looking forward to him revealing himself completely. ^Glad to see I wasn't the only one.

Ep.13 was very amusing & a little sad.
This was a good ep in Real's development, it showed how dependant she really is while highlighting her ''princess'' complex. Needing someone to comb her hair, wtf was that all about -_-; The way she treated Pino was pissing me off too, let the girl read her book dammit. Iggy's death was sad even though it won't really affect the story but I thought it was significant for Real's character. For an Autorave Iggy gave a pretty good death scene, very dramatic.
What happened to Iggy was also a good example of how the Cogito(Latin:I think) virus works, giving androids a scary sense of awareness.
This is a rather interesting relation(lack there of) thats developing between Vincent & Real. Agree with Iggy, the Proxy is inside him is more apt to kill her than vice versa. He's not even sweating that gun considering how fast he took it from Iggy.
Anyway this show has yet to disappoint, when are they getting to Moscow >_<

Yeah, that scene cracked me up. She doesn't seem to have much respect for autoraves in general - in fact, this episode brought out several of the more unpleasant parts of her personality, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I love flawed characters. I also love shows whose stories are so kickass that I honestly have no idea what the hell is going to happen next. Ergo Proxy is first-rate entertainment.

quick question, Iggy's eyes and the cogito virus:
Iggy had red eyes starting from the point he locked Real in that capsule. How exactly does this have to do with the Cogito virus? There were a few other instances of auto-raves having red eyes when they were flippin out, but Iggy had the virus for a long time, why the red eyes now? And Pino has the virus but doesn't have red eyes. Also near the end, when Iggy's head was on Real's lap, his eyes kept fading to and from red.
