Shounen Jump discussion thread...Nice idea. ^_^
I got the latest issue...a few weeks ago, I think (since I subscribe). :) Nowadays, I only read the Naruto and Hikaru no Go chapters, though...and they were great, as usual (especially since I love both manga).
I really loved the preview chapter of Black Cat. It's definitely a manga I'm looking forward to reading. :)

The preview chapter for Black Cat definitely piqued my interest (and got a friend of mine, who is a fan of the series, overly excited). :) (Does anyone know if Black Cat is going to be serialized in JUMP? I'm just curious.)

it's sad for me, because I had subscribed since issue #0 (yes, it exists.)
It came to the point
I only read naruto, And since I am way ahead of them in naruto, I stopped.

No, it won't be serialized in Shounen Jump; it's a straight-to-graphic-novel release. The first volume will be released on March 7, 2006. ^_^ (I'm happy that way, actually...since the GNs will most likely come out bimonthly! :P)

I was reading Naruto, Hikaru no Go, and One Piece
Also, I was reading the preview chapter of Black Cat and I loved it.
I have about maybe 38 shonen jump books so far. I bought it every month.

No, The first manga will arrive on March 6, 2006.
*March 7, 2006* And that's where I correct you. :P
Also...I've been reading the U.S. Shounen Jump since the first "unoffical" issue, #0 (which was just had previews of all the initial SJ series). I'm starting to wonder why I still subscribe to it (especially since I only read Naruto and Hikaru no Go each issue). (I guess I don't like the idea of quarterly GN releases. :P)

Finally, someone started this thread (I was going to later).
I'm a little annoyed because I missed the last two issues (I wanted the so-called "biggest issue ever" from a couple months ago, just to see the conclusion of tthe fight between Naruto and Kiba. I don't know why Shonen Jump advertised that one as the biggest SJ ever, since issue 16 really is the biggest.
The last issue I got was the one with a preview of one of the much later chapters of Kenshin in it, and Kenshin is on the cover.
I own almost all the issues except 2 and 4 and the last two that came out (I gave 2 to a friend, and 4 to a nephew).
In my opinion, SJ is nowhere near as good as it was when it first came out, due to all the editing and the fact that they run previews in place of DBZ; why can't they serialize another manga in its place? Plus, One Piece and Yu-Gi-Oh have just gotten incredibly boring, but those two series have the most chapters translated for them each issue! What the heck?! :P Translate more YYH and Hikaru, dammit!
Of course, with all this complaining, I might not seem like a true SJ fan. But trust me on this, I am. Especially since Viz decided to let go of DBZ (at least in SJ). That was a pretty brave thing to do....
My favorite SJ manga are Yu Yu Hakusho, Shaman King, and Naruto (in that order). Each one of those three manga have gotten even more interesting since a few months ago. I still read HnG, but it hasn't piqued my interest that much in a while.
And forget about One Piece and YGO. xD

I think the manga in shonen jump moves too slowly. I can watch the anime of the same series or download unlicensed parts of them off the Internet just the same.

I agree. I liked the first few issues of SJ best...especially because of the articles about Japanese traditions and the better coverage of things in Japan (such as manga reviews and Jump Festa info); now, the magazine's more "Americanized," IMO. I want more info on things in Japan (and more articles too)! T_T
I'm also wondering why they aren't putting another manga in its place...I think a series like Yamato Gensouki (by creator of Black Cat) or Wild Half would probably fit in the U.S. version of SJ. (I would like to read them, anyway...:P) So...I'm hoping Viz will make a decision for another manga to put in SJ (even though I doubt it will happen anytime soon).

I'm glad SJ is no longer serializing DBZ, to be honest...I didn't really care for it much (even though I know Akira Toriyama is a great manga-ka). It was a brave thing to do on Viz's part, though, since many people are fans of DBZ.

They recently had a preview of Gintama. Now, Viz has not officially licensed this manga yet, but in one of their surveys, they asked if we would like to have it serialized in the magazine. I responded to the survey, but I would much rather have them serialize Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (and from the BEGINNING--as in the REAL chapter one). One of their surveys even asked if we would like to see any of their direct to trade paperback titles in the magazine...even if it meant starting in the middle of the series. I, of course responded "no" because it has to be either serialized with the GN's coming later, or straight to GN. That same survey also asked if we would like to see any special one-shot manga and/or limited run manga in the magazine. I guess I might like to see that.
I considered cancelling my subscription, but I decided to stick around a little while longer, to see if anything exciting happens.

Well, we're completely on the same page, then!
There were only a select couple parts I liked a lot of DBZ, the rest of the time it was just....there :P You know? I think there are a lot better Toriyama manga out there....
I loved how the older issues had a lot of previews and coverage of Jump Festa. Issue 2 had the ideal amount of previews and screenshots, IMO. They also covered anime-based games (but now they'll cover any old game, which sort of ruins the purpose) a lot of the time.
Then there's another thing I noticed: how the SJ issues have gotten thinner! Maybe they're using different paper because most of the new issues are still over 300 pages, but that threw me off at first =/

I just reupped for another year. Its good but takes up a lot of room, I can only put 38 in a long comic box. BTW, I made a purchase from Right Stuf and received Shonen Jump #00. I've noticed that in the last two volumes of Shonen JUMP, Rurouni Kenshin was missing. Is it because of the preview chapters for upcoming manga releases that were included in the last two issues, or has the serialization of Rurouni Kenshin been completed? I'm just wondering...
Mr. Referee
March 5th, 2006, 09:54 PM
Umm... Rurouni Kenshin wasn't a set regular for the magazine. I remember they had a preview for it in one of the very first issues (volume 11 - November 2003), but it wasn't actually serialized in the magazine, but just used to say "here's a sneak peak, buy the graphic novels". Right now the only regular series are Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, Shaman King, Hikaru no Go, Naruto and Yu Yu Hakusho. Sometimes they show more later on (like this month there's a chapter of Prince of Tennis again), but other than those 6 series there aren't any more which go into the magazine regularly.

Oh, I see. I saw a chapter of Rurouni Kenshin in one of the more recent volumes (I think it was the December issue), and I assumed that it was serialized in JUMP. Thanks for clearing that up.

Yeah, the same goes for me, except I actually enjoy reading Millenium World. It has more substance than Yu-Gi-Oh! and Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist. The storyline is a bit darker as well. Still nothing extravagant, but I find it better.

Well, for Shonen Jump. I mostly buy titles in their G.N form rather than get the magazine each month. Because you can get more of the story when they release on a bi-monthly basis. Like with Black Cat, Eyeshield 21, Whistle!. And now the manga by Nobuhiro Watsuki: Buso Renkin.

I dont want this thread to turn into a SJ magazine bashing thread, but I think the quality of the paper has decreased because, the very first issue of SJ I got was really really thick and it surely wasnt the biggest issue yet. But I noticed that the pages are really thick. Im just saying that the newer SJ's pages are getting thinner and thinner.

It's almost always cheaper to suscribe to a magazine (or anthology, in the case of JUMP) than it is to buy each issue individually. There are also usually benefits to subscribing. I don't know if it's possible to buy back issues, though, and that's something I've been wondering myself. (I'm curious to know if there's a way to get the back issues of Shojo BEAT.)

Hm...I haven't gotten the latest issue of Shonen Jump yet...even though I saw that it was already out on store shelves. :| I guess it's either Viz shipping them out late or my local post office...Hopefully, I'll be getting the latest issue in the mail tomorrow (since I know that my subsciption doesn't expire for another few months).
I'd say it's cheaper to subscribe. The price for a whole year of issues by subscribing is $29.95 (last I checked) and around $60 if you buy off the newsstand. So, there is a major price difference if you look at it that way. -_-;

Isn't it also true that subscribers get something extra with their issues of JUMP, a special Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card or something? That's what I've heard, but I keep forgetting to look in the back of the library's issues to see if there's a trading card there.

Hm...well, subscribers mostly receive tradings cards (from Yu-Gi-Oh to newer ones like Naruto), but we've also gotten game demos too. If the cards aren't in the issues at your library, then someone must have taken them, since they're usually located inside the magazine.

Oh, they're there, I think. I noticed a YGO! trading card in one issue, but I keep forgetting to look in the backs of the other issues to see if there are trading cards in those issues, too. I was just wondering if including trading cards in the magazine was something temporary and special, and if the perk for subscribers ever changed.

Because some you might hate and some you might love.
Than you can just by the GN's for those series.

You can buy back issues off of the official viz store. I'm not subscribed, and if your like me, I see no point in subscribing....by like me, I mean follow the GN. I occasionally buy an SJ, but since I'm in the GN, SJ is some 5-7 chapters ahead of the GN releases. Unless you want to pay 30 bucks for the extras that are occasionally(?) enclosed.

Shonen jump was pretty good this month. I'm pissed though> The previews are starting to peave me because when they are 10-15 pages, i don't care, but this month, the preview was around 40 pages (roughly) and then there was a preview for a Kenshin novel in the back that was 3 pages. 43 pages is like 2 chapters. I really don't want to pay for 50 pages off adds they put in there once you count in all the plugs they ahve around the magazine. ANd for next month they advertised they are having 2 previews. Well thank god your gracing me with a c hapter of manga that i have no interest in and would only chekc out ina book store.
Kind of a rant, but they waste color pages on it to.

depends. How many of the the stories do you actually want to read? If the answer is one or two, I'd just go for the single volumes. Those come out faster too, I think. I'm personally just letting my subscription run out because the only thing I'm interested in anymore is Hikaru no Go : /. And I'm pretty sure the Gintama run was only temperary, if that makes a difference.

I think this is it.
Naruto - chapters 124, 125, & 126
Gin Tama - chapter 6
One Piece - chapters 130 & 131
Hikaru No Go - chapter 83
I don't know about Yu Yu Hakusho....they don't give you numbers...but there are 3 chapters called "Full Power One Last Time!!", "The Most Fervent Wish!!", and "Toguro's Repentance!!". So many exclamation points!
Shaman King - chapters 108 & 109
Yu-Gi-Oh! Millennium World - chapter 51
Yu-Gi-Oh! GX - chapter 5

Hope it helps!

Is Bo Bo-Bo in Shonen Jump now? Will his stories be collected in tankoban format? Because Viz only released one volume of Bo Bo-Bo manga, and it seemed to take place in the middle of a storyline and then not have any real conclusion. IIRC, Gasser wasn't even with the other characters at the end of the story, so no idea what happened to him. I don't really wanna buy Shonen Jump since I don't care about the other series they showcase, but I dig Bo Bo-Bo.

Question! What does Gin Tama chapter 5 mean?
I have found a place where they have 1-41, which 1 is it?
I am trying to download this whole shonen jump magazine, so far only suceeded in One Piece, but I know how to get the rest except for Gin Tama and Yu-Gi-Yoh

Also, I am having trouble finding a download for the Yu Gi Yoh, and do you know what volume of Yu Yu Hakusho it is from?

I just got my August issue recently and I'm really ticked that they are ending Shaman King in the magazine. It's all about Naruto and Yu-Gi-Oh! now. I really don't mind Naruto but the Yu-Gi-Oh! craze is driving me nuts.
Anybody else feel the same way?

Yeh!
I don't really like Yu Gi Oh!
It is annoying...
And a little cliche

Okay, does anyone know where I can download full Shonen Jump Magazines?
(I don't mean the japanese one, that you can get via torrents...)

Why don't you just track down the issue you missed? Does AN sell it? If so, buy it from them. I bet you can ge it off of Viz's website. Or check ebay. I mean, if you have all of the issues, wouldn't you rather have the actual mag and not some download?

Not the one in America. It was the cancellation of the Japan Monthly Jump due to poor sales. It's in the thread if you took the time to read it.

Hey y'all! I'm thinking of collecting Shoenen Jump USA, starting with last month's issue (in which Bleach began serialisation). So, I want to know is its worth collecting? How much of the Bleach manga do you get in each volume of SJ?

Personally, that's the only reason I buy SJ...
As for collecting, if you're into Bleach or Naruto, I suppose it is....
