Have you cosplayed as a person of opposite gender?

I was just wondering.

I often thought about cosplaying the female Hibiki Amawa. He doth not look bad in his womanly disguise. Too bad I do not have sufficient materials for a cosplay.

I have cosplayed as Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho and Kojiro from Pokemon. Kurama was much easier to cosplay, seeing as he is somewhat feminine. It was fun cosplaing males, but I prefer to cosplay females. It's much easier for me to act like a woman than a man, heh.

All the time.
3/4 of all cosplay outfits I have done are male.

Ranma, from Ranma 1/2. I didnt specify, but I was aiming towards male, cauuse I didnt have hair dye for girl-typre Ranmas hair.

Mana (x2): Mana ish Jrocker. He's a man, but tops all in femininity. He looks like a woman, but cosplaying as Mana counts as crossplay.

and the las one was the only non-male character I did; a catgirl.
although.. many of my costumes in planning are female now. Lulu from FFX, Sen/CHihiro from Spirited Away and Stela from Interstella 5555. Although, Count D is male. from PetsShop of Horrors

I do majority male characters. But, I cosplay female characters sometimes too. It all depends on how much I like any character, and often times its a male.

Crossplay = Win

I've crossplayed a lot... let's see...

Sakura-Con 2001- Sailor Cosmos (0 crossplay, 1 regular)
Sakura-Con 2002- Ryoko, Supi-chan, Amiboshi (1 crossplay, 2 regular)
Sakura-Con 2003- Hope/Void, Onpu, Jiemi (1 crossplay, 2 regular) (and three costumes that were cheap and not being listed)
Sakura-Con 2004- Hakkai, Sarah, Tsukasa (1 crossplay, 1 regular, and 1 still in debate)
Sakura-Con 2005- Pikachuu, Kabuto, Hawkeye, Yuki, Hakkai, Sarah (2 crossplay, 1 regular, 2 repeat, and 1 probable crossplay)
Sakura-Con 2006- Hawkeye, Kabuto, Sarah, Eisen, Hinamori, Hisoka (2 crossplay, 1 regular, 3 repeat)

Okay, so that's 7 crossplay, 8 non-crossplay, 1 probable crossplay (is the gender of Pikachuu really definable?), and 1 in debate.

I mean... can you really call Tsukasa crossplay?

I think they stated Pikachu is a female pokemon. Tsukasa in my opinion would be crossplay because it was the PC who was male class, not the RL character (a girl).

Btw, awesome character choices. What anime would Hisoka be from?? YnM or HxH??

I've done a bit of crossplay... only a bit though, as I've only cosplayed a few times.

I've done: Kurama (YYH), Hakkai (Saiyuki), and Sanzo (Saiyuki).

YnM... and I am very frightened, because I know that there will be a Tsuzuki and a Muraki at con... and I DON'T like yaoi (don't ask why I'm cosplaying as Hisoka when I don't like yaoi).

As for Tsukasa... this has been long debated on the Sakura-Con board in OUR crossplay topic... because am I a girl crossplaying as the male character, or am I a girl regularly cosplaying a girl playing as a male character?

wasabigirl1000
January 3rd, 2006, 09:48 AM
If you are Tsukasa as we see him in the World, then I think that you'd be a girl crossplaying as a male.
We tend to refer to Tsukasa as 'he' and his player as 'she'.
so unless your cosplaying Tukasa's player, I'd think it was crossplay

YaoiItsumoZutto
January 3rd, 2006, 10:34 AM
The crossplays I've done so far:
Seta Soujiro (RK)
Kurosaki Hisoka (YnM)
Sasame (Pre-tear) [The prob with this one was that because I was doing Sasame civilian, almost no one knew I was cosplaying!]

To come:
Edward Elric (FMA)
Sakuma Ryuichi (Gravi)
Katan (AS)
Yuuri demon form (KKM)
Soma Yuki (Furuba)

And, even more later, but undecided as of now.

I was Malik from Yugioh, but that was easy since I'm a girl and he's rather feminine looking.

Anyways, YOU ARE SO MY HERO FOR COSPLAYING HIBIKI!! I've always wanted to see someone cosplaying him ^___^

I have done no crossplaying (yet) but alot of my friends are like "do it, if you have the balls then I repect you for it since I'm not doing it" and then al my friends who are girls say "I would respect you soo much if you took it seriously" so there's a definite crossplay in the future. until then tho the closeset I'm gonna get to crossplay is Wallmarket Cloud (when cloud put on a dress to get into that brothel in FFVII) so yea, you can definitly expect pictures of that once it's done.

if you want to, and you're afraid of just getting there dressed as a woman, (IE you wouldnt have a problem at the con), you can take your costume in a bag, or wear non-female looking parts with the rest in the bag, and change when you get to the con.

Yukito Kunisaki
January 31st, 2006, 09:29 AM
Yea, true, but even if i consider it, female costumes tend to be ALOT harder to get financially and skillfully. But this is coming from someone who wants to do Tasuki from Fushigi Yuugi and hopes to come through >.>. Plus, I think I'd be just another Man-(Insert anime girl name here), It would never work out, heh...

wasabigirl1000

there are simple female character costumes. I promise!
but a lot of the good ones are difficult.

it depends on who you want to cosplay as.

Yukito Kunisaki
January 31st, 2006, 09:46 AM
Oh, i know there are simple ones O.o (Azumanga Girls for one) but if i went too too simple, I would look more like Man-Faye XD Not that I am dissing him, He is cool, he is a myspace chum =D. See, I love experimenting with stuff, as long as it isn't new food ><. So, I wouldn't mind who I went as, whether it be Tomo from Azumanga, to Sakura from CCS. I feel if I can't make it good, it isn't worth trying, so I probably never will attempt. Who knows, maybe something will happen in the future for me and all will be cool to try.

wasabigirl1000
January 31st, 2006, 02:58 PM
actually, you can crossplay without REALLY crossplaying.
dress up like a man who dresses like a woman!
like Nuriko from Fushigi Yuugi.
He's a dude, but lived as a woman for a long time

Yukito Kunisaki
January 31st, 2006, 07:52 PM
See, still FY costumes are pretty difficult to do O.o. Trust me, I think J-rockers all the time too, but somehow, if i dressed like Mana, or Aya or someone, I still don't feel it crossplaying, seeing its a male I am still cosplaying as. But, don't let it bother ya, I'll just forget about it XD. My friend I went there with last year, he totally thinks I am against it, the way I talk and all, but I'm not. Still, I wouldn't like wearing a dress or something infront of him, be weird after that. Be better one year that I could have; a companion that could help me get the stuff, money, and possibly go to the con with that companion or friend. See, if I was to go with a girl, It would be hella easy from what I hear online, seeing they all know how to go about it, but the only girl I know or hang with is my friends girlfriend XD. She isn't into the anime stuff however. I possibly will try one year, but not to AB most likely.

hey, I cosplay as Mana!
I was Mana on saturday last year!
and my friend coincidentally dressed up like Gackt on the SAME day. it was SO cool.

i was suggesting that to get you into it, and then maybe you'd feel more comfortable going as an ALL female character.

oh! I just remembered: Millie THompson from Trigun!

Omg o.o I think I saw you XD I was with my friend and we got your pics O.o But I thought it was a sunday O.o But I must say, I did only see one Gackt and Mana and they said "Wow, someone knew us" or something to that extent In front of some escalators :P. Either way, as I said, I wouldn't fit the look, even for Millie, and ya, an all female character, I wouldn't mind as I said, but if i was to, I'd want to not put that character down. None I could pull off in the least bit o.o and as I said, my friend goes with me, and me going like that around him alot of the time, would be hella weird.

I agree that people seem to be a lot more accepting about girls cosplaying as guys than the other way around. Probably because, well, you see girls in pants and and suits all the time in real life, but it's far, faaaar more uncommon to see a guy walking around in an everyday situation wearing a dress. I say go for it either way. But I do appreciate guys who shave for their costumes. I'm not a fan of excessive body hair.

That said, I've almost always cosplayed as a guy, because...well, I just like so many of the male characters out there. So far I've been:
AnimeIowa 2002 (My first con! Oh, my goodness, the memories!): Okita from Rurouni Kenshin
AnimeIowa 2003: Hiei from Yu Yu Haksuho
Animecentral 2004: Raenef from Demon Diary
Animedetour 2005: Hige from Wolf's Rain
AnimeIowa 2005: Shuichi from Gravitation (which was a crossplay in the loosest sense of the word, as I was dressed in his schoolgirl outfit)

I only dressed as a girl once, when I was Asuka from Eva at Detour 05. I am being a girl at this AI, though. I've been wanting to cosplay as Amelia from Slayers for YEARS, and this year I'm finally doing it^-^.
I just cosplay as whatever character I like and who's outfit strikes me, without worrying about gender. If you're dressing as someone you enjoy, who cares?
Also, I have never seen ANYONE dress as Hibiki. You'll be my hero if you do^-^.

Oh my....well, I haven't ACTUALLY done this yet but, I could really, really pull off D from Vampire Hunter D. I don't know if that makes me sad or what. I have that kind of dark, wavy butt length hair...and I'm pretty pale. I think I could pull it off...

The only problem is my boobs. D wears a [very] tight body suit, and that would look mighty strange with 'woman features' attached.......

Last year at animeboston, I went as Sousuke Sagara (And I AM a guy). I WANT to Crossplay Himeko from Kannazuki No Miko this next Anime Boston, in her school uniform, but I never have costumes ready in time, so chances are, I will have a very last second costume YET again. Someone I know online wants me to sing Karaoke with her too, doing an all girl song (Zone - True Blue) and I am TRYING to get a more feminine voice FOR that xD. I am practicing, but its hard, and I got it to work once or twice perfectly. All I really need is the costume and the guts and hell, I would do it next year ^_^.

Yeah, same here. Aside from that, for me, crossplaying lets me be who i really am without my parents constant annoyance and worring.
