View Full Version : My first drift video (GT4)

Ok, here's my first drift video.
BP Falken RX-7 (http://www.youtube.com/?v=p5knKh3ruJI)
I used my crappy webcam to capture it, so the quality is kinda bad, I will get a better digicam soon. This is the first time I edited a video digitally, so I still don't know how do fade out the video/audio yet, that's why it's suddenly cut at the end. Hope it doesn't suck too much, any comments suggestions/criticisms welcome (other than about the crappy video quality ^_^ )
Edit: Here's my 2nd drift video, Mazda RX-7 Spirit R

What are your car settings? I want to know because I've been very curious on the settings for drifting.

Rear end hard, no camber... front end soft, lotsa' camber. Tweak it from there.

I didnt actually know you could drift in GT4 -_-;
I really want to know how, anyone know any walkthroughs cos i really am that much of a n00b :P
Pretty good to watch though, good going

GT4 isn't exactly the best thing for drifting... the physics engine employed doesn't accurately convey the feel IMO. I'm not particularly good at RWD drifting to begin with (gimme' an AWD and I'll school most people in sideways action though), but most people I've chatted with agree.
TougeSil80
November 10th, 2005, 05:59 PM
My current settings are
410hp
Tires (f/r): S3/S3
Suspension: Semi-Racing
Spring Rate: 11.0/8.5
Ride Height: 116/116
Shock Absorbers: 8/8
Camber: 2.0/0.5
Downforce: 13/18
Driving Aids: Off
Everything else is default.
GT4 is harder to drift than GT2-3, but it's still possible.

Stiffen up the rear and soften up the front and you'll see the back end will step out far easier. :)
I don't have any vids, but here's a couple of pics I found on my work comp:

Yea, this is only in Gran Turismo 4, I own an AWD car in real life (Eagle Talon), it can't really drift (without crazy mods anyways).
KVN
November 16th, 2005, 04:15 AM
Drifting an AWD in real life isn't that hard... I used to do it when I had my Impreza. It just requires a lot more power, or a lot less traction.

Those WRC cars probably have AYC and all kinds of electronic aids to make them go sideways tho.
KVN
November 17th, 2005, 04:31 AM
AYC prevents drifting, not helps it.
All WRC cars have is variable diffs, of which only the center is driver-adjustable. You don't really need that to drift one anyways. My Impreza (an old 95) had about one third the power of a WRC, no adjustable center diff, and no limited slip diffs either... and the torque slit was about 70/30 to the front. I couldn't drift on asphalt of course cause the car was way underpowered, yet I could still drift on loose surfaces.

November 17th, 2005, 04:44 AM
Wow, you really need to work on your drifting. A D1 car and you STILL couldn't make it round the big loop in Autumn Ring...I can do it in an underpowered AE86...

http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=72878 this is a guide for settings that work well for a lot of different cars.
just remember drifting in GT4 is pretty difficult, so don't expect to pull 100mph huge angle drifts in the first hour of trying or you will be sadly disappointed.

I agree with Takumi you need some more practice, I suggest trying something with more stability and less power (like the miata mentioned in the first link). Drifting the high powered cars is fun but they're just a huge irritation if you try to use them from the start.
KVN
November 17th, 2005, 12:20 PM
Yep... start with something a little more tame.
Low-power drifting:

I can't really drift anything lower than 300hp. I have a Driving Force (not Pro) wheel, but I can't really drift with that. I can drift ok with DS2 tho.

Nice pictures. I usually drift rwd cars only, but this week's GTP DPC's requirement is a Civic, so I have a go in the Civic, that's a surprisingly good drift car.

Civics work surprisngly well... short wheel-base with no weight out back = good drifting when you stiffen up the rear.

I went around the outer circle 1 full round in a 97 NSX Type S Zero last night. I have some light power mods, around 330hp, N3 tires, semi-race suspension (stock settings). But I still couldn't do in between both circles, the best I did was a little more than half round. Anyone tried this? This idea is from an episode of Fifth Gear. Where they drifted a GT(40) a full round between two circles.

ARGH, I can't get anywhere in this game LOL
I've attempted drifting in the Falken Rx-7 FC.
Can never do anything that great with it :( maybe I just dont know how to do it.
And I can't get past the Pro series Gran Tourismo tournament I think it is. They all have **** quick cars, and I can't even get one that is nearly as quick as them!!!
TougeSil80
April 22nd, 2006, 08:34 PM
One of the important factor in winning those tournament is choosing the right tires. I usually use R2 tires for those 5-10 laps races and R1 for the endurance, the AI usually use R3's so you change tire less often that them, that's how you can get 15-25 sec advantage out of it.
Also, a ez way to make money fast is to buy a Opel Calibra DTM race car, max tune it, participate in the DTM race in the Euro Hall in B Spec mode, set the time to 3X, you get a prize car that's worth $700K.
MirKz
April 25th, 2006, 03:43 AM
quicker one is the capri rally I think it is?? (about 3rd one down on rally list).
You get a hot fast car (for me I used R34 GTR NUR or something full tune at about 800+hp) and just completely own the 2 races... win the car and sell it for about 200,000, And just repeat, found that to be the easiest for me thus far.
Its not a factor of changing tires... its a fact I don't have a car that is fast enough to keep up and corners well enough etc. I can go and spend heaps on a zonda race car etc, mod it, and its still not all that great compared to these others I'm racing... it's really odd.
TougeSil80
April 26th, 2006, 01:33 AM
But you can't use B-spec with Rally races, with the DTM race you can just sit back, and let the B-spec driver do it's thing, and then you'll just collect the earnings.
One things you can do in those harder races is see which car is the fastest, there's usually one car that you just can't beat. So find out which car it is, then just keep entering and quitting the race if that car is present. If you keep doing that for a while there will be a few times that car is not present, then you can win the race that way.
