I apologize in advance if there is already a thread like this ...
Anyway, there is a DVD collection thread, so I figured a manga collection thread was a good idea.
We have how much manga do you have, who has a crazy amount of manga etc ...
But how about a picture of everyone's collection?
Here's mine:

Ya. It's a lot easier than having to list what's in your collection^^
It's good to see people's collection nicely displayed. I hope nobody sees this as "my collection is bigger than yours" contest.
PS: I've just uploaded my pic, it's in my previous post^^

Well mine is purple... I don't know, I've never seen a green one, but when I look on listerX or the Tokyopop site the cover is sort of green... so I guess it's something Tokyopop changed, I bet I have a later version of the manga.

Carmel, bebopxblues; Heheh, I've been collecting for a while and the Japanese versions are a few dollars cheaper than the US versions^^ So...
Ollin; Wow, you have School Rumble vol 10 already O_o I need to check the bookstore again. I see that you have Shuffle comic a la carte anthologies; are they consistently good? I have doubts about any anthologies because the quality often isn't consistent between artists.

Yeah that came out in Sept. I forgot to pre-order the special edition before it sold out. >_< The artwork for the Shuffle anthologies aren't always consistent but if your a fan of Shuffle in general it's a good read. If you want the official manga get Days in the Bloom. BTW Vol. 5 of the anthologies and Vol. 4 of Days of the Bloom comes out in December. :)

Thanks for the info^^
As I recall, School Rumble vol. 7 has the limited edition mobile phone strap with figure (I bought the regular edition btw). What comes with vol. 10?
Ah yes, Days In the Bloom is nice. I missed vol 1 & 2, so I might have to order them if they don't restock. It takes about a month after the release date before Sydney Kinokuniya have the book in stock.

Well, I didn't know Japanese either until I started learning it^^ My parents didn't let me learn Japanese until I became fluent in English T_T
It's worth learning^^ You'll have access to the latest releases, all titles, cheaper books (more manga for you^^), and no need to rely on fansubs/scanlations where some expressions are lost in the translation.

You bet I do. Both 40k and Fantasy. I've got an 8,000 point High Elf army in Fantasy and 4,000 points Dark Eldar. I have a couple of models from the Tau codex also.
Sweet! So other people like Immortal Rain too. Yeesh, people in my area stare at me like a cow at an oncoming train when I mention that title... like... "Naniiiii?" Glad to hear it does have a following.

OMG!! O_o and I thought my 3,000pt Dark Eldar army was way too big. I got too many DE warrior models (80), I'm thinking of using them as if they were Termagants XD
Back to topic: I've just got School Rumble vol.10 limited edition. It has a pamphlet for class 2-C's Sleeping Beauty play and alternative cover for School Rumble vol.1 (it has a zoomed out picture of Tenma, making it consistent with the other books)

A lot of people seem to be reading/watching School Rumble. I know it hasn't been licensed by an American company (as far as I know at least), but is it any good?

I'm loving it to bits^^ It's a love comedy (and not harem), but some people might get annoyed by the side stories in between which has little to do with the romantic side of the story. I guess I'm also starting to get used to School Rumble's unpredictability (who'd thought they would have a pool hockey and BB gun war just to decide what the class will do for the school festival). I'm starting to wonder what'll happen to the original plot of Tenma having to confess her love to Karasuma before he goes overseas in one year time. Seems like it's not mentioned anymore.
If you enjoyed Azumanga Daioh and love stories, I think you'll enjoy this too^^

Del Rey just recently licensed School Rumble. :D I'm glad it's finally coming to America, since I really wanted to read it...XD I hope the anime comes over sometime soon as well. ^_^ It's good, from what I've seen and read. :)

Not likely. Manga is much cheaper in Japan than it is over here (it's about the only thing I can really think of that's cheaper). You can get brand new tankouban for only a few hundred yen.

That is probably one of the most amazing things I have seen in a long time. I am very impressed Shining Finger. If I had even a fraction of your collection I would be so happy...
@Nyarlathotep: Your excuse for stealing is lame. I don't think I've ever heard someone try to justify theft like that. Things that other people put hard work into making are not your birthright. If you don't feel guilty for stealing all of those I feel quite sorry for you. This is about as kindly as I can put it.

Yea, i really dont have any open bookshelves (theyre currently occupied by concert memorabilia and stuff), so i used an empty drawer for my manga. I think its better than a shelf, as it provides protection from dust/air/rain/etc. Of course, i think i may have to expand to two drawers once those books arrive...

Seriously...:P If I didn't buy manga...I would probably spend a lot more on anime. I've spent a lot on my manga collection...-_-; (Many of you have too, I'm sure. ;))

Absolutely not me, and I'm a Catholic too O_o;
Don't worry about the Christmas/Holiday thingy, you were just being specific^^ It's not like you're asking someone's Christian name when you meant to say given name.
e.g.
A: What's your Christian name?
B: Uhhh, Muhammad... ^^;;;;

I don't understand this large over throwing of the word Christmas and it being offensive, until a few years ago it was fine and now there's all these people that act like it's a dirty word <_< It's a habit to say "Merry Christmas", even if you're not Christian or have anything to do with Christmas I don't see why it should be that offensive, it's basically just meaning have a good time during the holidays. If someone was to tell me "Happy Hanukkah!", for example, I wouldn't go "OMG! You're offending me!", people are over reactioning to the point of changing Christmas song lyrics ... K, that was my rant for the day ^_^ And yes, I think I'll be getting a few manga for Christmas.

I have a couple domestic manga but don't feel like taking pics of them. A list of what I own is in the link below.
I think I saw Shakugan no Shana novels in your collection (they can't be Char's Counterattack novels eh?). Are they good? I'm in the mood for novels right now^^
The last time I was at the bookstore, I saw 6 volumes of Shakugan no Shana novels (0-5) which seemed overwhelming.

I only wish I had more room in my room...I think I'll have to invent some sort of shelf that utilizes ceiling space -_-;
use your dresser drawers. Stack clean cloths next to your bed, this way, you can roll out of bed, look at your feet, and decide what to wear that day. Or you could take plastic bins like these: http://www.creativespacesusa.com/ProductImages/storage%20solutions/IDX4modulon.gif, and bolt them to your ceiling, but bolt a side to the ceiling so the opening in it, is facing outward, not upward.

I could ask for some manga for christmas, but I'd rather just buy it myself online where I don't have to pay retail or feel bad about making others spend too much.

Yes it is cheaper. A regular volume would cost about $4 USD brand new ($8 AUD after shipping here, which is about $6 USD)
Translated to English? Hell no^^; but some series are available in bilingual version (which cost more) to help Japanese people learn English.
Some might think that the language tuition cost before one's able to read them isn't worth it though... but being able to read books which are not licenced yet: priceless :D

I keep my manga in my dresser as i really dont have any bookshelf space. I think ive gotten a decent collection, for someone who's only been in it for 2 months.

Yea, the one im talking about is the display that animenation has, and since they're closing the walk-in store, i was told that they'd be getting rid of the displays. Most of the employees have taken dibs on the other displays (DBZ, Gungrave, a really cool FMA one i want...)i am the first (and only, so far) person to ask about the Tokyopop one, so come January 28th, as long as one of the employees doesnt ask for it, it should hopefully be mine.

Beserker - Is Animenation closing the store or just moving to another location?
Basically, theyre turning the walk-in store, into a showcase of their action figures/statues. There will be computer access so that you can buy stuff off the website, and a register for checking out. But there wont be any actual "physical" browsing of items. Also they are getting rid of the walk-ins for Rentanime, so that means that some ppl gotta wait a day(at least) for things to be mailed the distance that i could drive in 20 minutes...
Im kinda hoping for a "store floor" blowout clearance, but most likely they'll just move all the merch on the floor to the warehouse ><.

January 19th, 2006, 08:05 AM
That's ridiculous. What's their reason for closing for doing all of that? I thought the store did really well?
Bezerker
January 19th, 2006, 09:40 AM
Heres everything that Gene/12string (the owner of AN) said:
The walk-in store is closing at the end of this month. We understand it's an issue for customers who are used to walking in and selecting from their list, but it's in the interest of increasing the efficiency of the overall system as it grows, and the efficiency of our overall online operation. The store is only about 5-10% of our sales, and from a cost/benefit view, it's just time to close it for the good of the bigger picture. The store in it's current form is closing, and with it the walk-in availability of the RentAnime service. It will be more of a 'display area' for our figure collection, cels, etc.
All stock will be moved back into the warehouse, but you'll still be able to come in and buy. It's just that you won't be able to 'browse' physical items in the store, (there will still be website access though), you'll need to check out the website and the merchandise will need to be rung up and retrieved from the warehouse.
Honestly, i dont see how it will make that much of a difference, someone will have to be in the store to work the register, so they'll still have to pay someone to sit there, they still gotta put electricity into the room, also its not like they are going to be leasing the area of the walkin store, so they're not really making any more money by just having empty space. Plus the load of incoming mail will increase greatly with all the Rentanime walk-ins having to mail their dvd's, slowing down the turn around time (to my guess).
Oh well, thats my rant. Maybe we'll get lucky and after a month or so, the walk-in store will open up again. Sorry to anyone who's actually viewing this thread to see manga collection pictures, ill hopefully be getting my manga in a few days so ill take some new pics.

What burglar, in their right minds, would steal someone's manga (unless he was a fan, which is highly unlikely)? O_o I'd think things like jewelry and electronics would come first...Also, the anime collection would go before the manga since we all know most burglars don't like to read. :P

Thanks. I've been collecting since about 2002 or so, but I used to go to bookstores and just read the mangas. I always made sure I was careful as to not damage them. As a kid I never had the money to pay for them (who's pay 17 dollars+tax for manga?). Now I'm in college and I'm taking Japanese courses. I'm having that weird feeling that once I learn Japanese, should I still buy translated manga?
I picked up a few raw mangas in Chicago for really cheap, and if that's the case I can save myself money that way.

That's okay. Maybe one day you will have a spur of the moment kind of thing and decide to post! It's no big deal though, don't worry about it! :)

Great collections, new and updated! I always get so happy when this thread gets new updates, lol.
My dad is taking me on a date to the bookstore tonight and I am really hoping I'll get around to posting an updated picture. I've just been so busy with school and birthday preparations, so hopefully this weekend I will get around to it! In the meantime, keep up with the great pictures! It puts a smile on my face. Haha. :D

Its totally awsome! Give me until next december and I will problebly post another picture than :p. You could stack your books sideways and that would use up any extra spaces you have on your shelves. Its a good idea but it looks better sideways if you have accually LOT LOT LOTS of manga.. which you do. So yea try it out and tell me how you like it.
