But yer, you got a nice collection.

Thanks Tzui. I've been fortunate that my local Borders has had them all.

So far, no one near me has the new Oishinbo. One of the Barnes and Nobles has vol. 1 and 3 and my local comic shop has vol.3, but everywhere seems to list the new Oishinbo as "on order", implying it will come one day, but they don't know when.

I want to get more of Pluto, as I loooooooooved vol.1

I saw some really interesting stuff at my local comic shop I had never even heard of, mostly dark horse or smaller press kinda stuff, like Scary Book, XS Hybrid, MPD PSycho, and The Kurosagi Corpse DElivery Service, but they didn't have vol.1 of ANY of them.

Some of them caught my eye due to the unique design, which would look nice on a shelf. ^_~

My manga collection is currently smaller than my amount of graphic novels and regular books.

And Tzui, if you enjoyed With The Light vol.1 I suggest you order the others, or see if your local bookstores will order it for you. They're worth the read. Really fascinating stuff.

Also, since some people are posting games, you can see my DS and PSP games to the right here. Not the best view, but I was just taking snap shots for fun the other night.

You guys all have awesome collections!

I really miss the days when I could actually take pictures of my collection. I am only 8 manga away from having 1600 GNs. They are all stacked on two bookshelves, some are in my closet, some in drawers, and I put my more disliked series out in the garage.

When I move out someday, I plan on having a huge room for manga. It'll be kinda like a manga study or something. :P I liked having easy access to all my volumes. My old bedroom in the house we used to live in was big enough to display them all. My room now is less than half the size, so I can't do that anymore.

Great collections, everyone!

Dazzle: Holy crap! Sixteen hundred?! Insanity! I hope you get your manga room one day! I always wanted a library. When I move out and get my own house, I'll make sure to have a spare room and convert it to one. ^_^

>kittynboi: Your welcome ^^ And I've been meaning to get them online though I only got the first one from RightStuf 'casue they had a Yen Press sale.
And I think everyone knows how that feels to be unable to go to a bookstore and find none of the volumes you want @_@ At least, I know how that feels.

My stuff could be organized way better, but to do that I require this specific ikea bookshelf and my local Ikea is perpetually sold out of it since it's so popular.

When I get that most all dvd's and games will be in my living room.

Most of our games are in drawers connected to the TV/console cabinet, though there's also some in my brothers' rooms.

It's definitely hard trying to follow a budget when it comes to entertainment, add in manga, anime and video games and it's like you have no chance! Am I the only one who goes through this?^_^

Just picked up some new stuff today for my collection, AND yesterday.

Yeah, I deal with that sort of, but not with the same stuff. I buy a decent amount of manga, usually one or two books a week if I can. I don't watch a LOT of anime these days, and DVD's don't cost me much since I got netflix and do most of my anime and other film and tv show viewing with that. Instant view has made it even easier. There are still some flicks and t shows I get on DVD. (I'm still working on my Star Trek collection, with only a few sets left to go.)

Same with games. Gamefly has ben a wonder for my finances, since I can get things like Soul Calibur and Prinny, try them out, and send them back.

nice stuff! why is your yugioh vol 1 shiny... I'm jealous.

Back in 2003 Shonen Jump re-released all their really popular series (YuYu Hakusho, Shaman King, Naruto and Yu-Gi-Oh!) with holographic covers. Besides the shinyness, there is no difference between the shiny version and regular. Only 5000 of each shiny cover was made. (mines labeled 4219 of 5000)

Its weird how the shiny cover releases went under the radar, I can't seem to find any information about it anymore except in really old issues of Shonen Jump.

Thanks guys. I am really fond of it myself.

i'm jealous, Iron Wok Jan and berserk in the same collection.
I don't think Jan compares to Berserk really. I just finished the whole thing yesterday and it didn't really go anywhere. the food just got weirder, Kirikos breast didn't stop to grow, the characters got zero development, Jan didn't stop being a jerk and it took like 2 volumes to finish the judging of the final tournament while the actual ending got a coverage of like 2 chapter. I am really disappointed at how this turned out. It was pretty entertaining at times but since it didn't go anywhere it kinda felt like a waste.

Surely Jan can't hold a candle to Berserk, but it's still a very entertaining manga, Berserk at another level you know. Now if that lazy son of a b*tch Kentaro miura would work a little faster, berserk would be an even better series.:naughty:

Sorry for the off-topic.

Each of these huge, 500 page volumes consists of a collection of short stories, ( one is a slightly longer story which begins in the first and ends in the second vol.) A lot of these shorts were very entertaining, especially in vol. 2, But some are a bit corny ( written more than 40 years ago see. :naughty: )
I certainly think they're worth the money and a great addition to anyones collection. I can also recommend 'The drifting classroom'.

Aha, thank you. :) Yes, I know some Japanese. I'm not very confident in my ability, though...I just like to read manga, that's about it lol, so I'm good at reading, but I can't actually speak it very well because I get all nervous around native speakers lolol.

Actually, I think one of the coolest things about the xxxHolic Japanese versions is the way they colored the paper on the sides of the book, like so:

http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv297/genetnet/xxxholicsidecolour.jpg

I was really shocked to see that as I thought they'd just be the regular colour, and the paper is extremely hi-quality, along with the colour illustrations inside. Underneath the dustcover is pretty neat, too:

http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv297/genetnet/xxxholicundercover.jpg

It blends in well, and I agree, totally beautiful cover designs. I just love the art, CLAMP did an amazing job with this series. :) (And I hope to buy the rest when I get mah Christmas money lol! )

i am in love with xxxholic covers. i have the entire series (manga. and am getting the anime for christmas. i've been snooping around my parents' room. lol.) and can just look at the covers for so long. maybe when i go to Japan Town in SanFran (very soon) i'll get a couple of japanese editions of xxxholic; just for the heck of it.

what they did w/ the sides of the books is awesome! i was never aware of that fact! *more jealousy*

Big picture of the full set of shelves+close-ups so you can actually see, ya know, what's on them. That's all of it, not counting the three volumes of Legal Drug and one volume of Excel Saga living on my floor and the 23 volumes of Tsubasa coming now. Getting new shelves soon, though, which should help with the manga/anime storage problem (I have a LOT of DVDs on my floor right now due to storage issues) not to mention helping remove some weight off that poor shelf in the lower-right that's starting to bend...

Inuyasha Volumes 1-38
Knights of the Zodiac (Saint Seiya) Volumes 2-19 - (I should be getting these in about a week or less)

While cleaning up, I got the inspiration to take some pictures.
They didn't fit in one picture, so I put them in piles (order is by who is the publisher) and took several photos.
Most of the mangas are in Finnish, but I'm catching up with my English ones too. :)

First pile (http://www.aijaa.com/v.php?i=6347801.jpg)
Mangas from Egmont, all in Finnish. The ones below Death Note are the Finnish edition of Princess Resurrection, Meikkikeiju (Make-up fairy) is a one shot from Haruka Fukushima and Power!! is Girl Got Game. I'm missing Ranma½ 3 and 4, and then I'd have the whole series. :(

Second pile (http://www.aijaa.com/v.php?i=6347803.jpg)
Mangas from Sangatsu Manga, all in Finnish. The .hacks are The Legend of the Twilight and Horoskooppimysteerit is Zodiac P.I.

Third pile (http://www.aijaa.com/v.php?i=6347804.jpg)
Mangas from Punainen Jättiläinen (up to Princess Ai) and Pauna Media Group (the rest).

Fourth pile (http://www.aijaa.com/v.php?i=6347805.jpg)
Mangas from Del Rey. I'm really waiting for the next Alive.

Fifth pile (http://www.aijaa.com/v.php?i=6347808.jpg)
Mangas from Tokyopop. Just how cool is that Hanako?

Sixth pile (http://www.aijaa.com/v.php?i=6347827.jpg)
Mangas from Yen Press. The Higurashi mangas are mah treasures now.

Seventh pile (http://www.aijaa.com/v.php?i=6347828.jpg)
Mangas from Viz. And a couple from June. I'm starting to like the Sig Ikki line.

Okay, that's it for now. I hope that someone else would be inspired by this and woud post some neat collection pictures. :P
And man, I hope these pictures work. I'm still learning to use Aijaa.com...

Yeah, I like Higurashi. I was hooked with the anime (which I still think is a little bit better) but the mangas are a joy too. Especially the colour pages. I'd say buy it, if you have some extra money. And the 2nd volumes are also very thick, so you'd get a lot of reading too.

(And ya noticed how I've bought some Negima? ;))

Alright! Finally getting around to it. Lost internet this weekend so I had some more time to clean up and finish taking photos. Many of the series you will see in my collection have gaps in them, either numerically or physically. If it's physical, it's because my friend is borrowing said spot's volumes. If it's numeric, for example Gintama 16, 18, the that would be because I buy my manga from a place where everything's first come first serve. If it's not there, there's a high chance that it won't ever be there again. Those missing volumes will be filled in when I go to Otakon this summer or any other cons i'm contemplating. Without further ado

Main Shelf (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b288/holangjai/manga%20album/DSC03624.jpg)
This is where I house all the manga still currently being released in America. They are currently in order from publishers. I change the order around alot out of shear boredom. It's a beautiful black bookshelf that's already packed. I'm expecting to buy another one sometime this year.

Here's a couple of close ups in case you were wondering what some series are:
The Front of the first 3 shelves (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b288/holangjai/manga%20album/DSC03626.jpg)
The Back of the first 3 shelves (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b288/holangjai/manga%20album/DSC03638.jpg)
The Front of the following 3 shelves (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b288/holangjai/manga%20album/DSC03629.jpg)
The Back of the following 3 shelves (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b288/holangjai/manga%20album/DSC03642.jpg)
The Front of the last 2 shelves (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b288/holangjai/manga%20album/DSC03637.jpg)
The Back of the last 2 shelves (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b288/holangjai/manga%20album/DSC03650.jpg)

Perpendicular to this bookcase is a smaller bookcase which house my small manga, VIZBIG Editions and novels

The back of the small bookcase (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b288/holangjai/manga%20album/DSC03618.jpg)
And some closeups for the curious:

back bottom (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b288/holangjai/manga%20album/DSC03619.jpg)

close these bookcases is my bed. I house most of my over-sized manga on the top of my bed's backboard and well as most novels:
Oversized manga top left (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b288/holangjai/manga%20album/DSC03598.jpg)
Oversized manga top middle (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b288/holangjai/manga%20album/DSC03599.jpg)

novels in the bottom right (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b288/holangjai/manga%20album/DSC03602.jpg)
novels currently on queue (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b288/holangjai/manga%20album/DSC03597.jpg)

This is the side shelf that's next to my computer. It used to house my manga collection when I first started 9 years ago. It's really just a DVD/VHS rack, but it works. It's currently housing my smaller print manga, my incomplete shojo manga, rave master and some incomplete oversized manga, by which i mean i'm missing a volume or more to finishing collecting what is available:
Side Shelf (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b288/holangjai/manga%20album/DSC03585.jpg)
Here are some pseudo closeups

Bottom 3 Shelves (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b288/holangjai/manga%20album/DSC03587.jpg)

There are a lot of manga stacked around my room simply because I haven't read some yet or they haven't found a space to really be put anywhere. Most of them are incomplete series, like the oversized on the side shelf, missing one of more volumes to be completed. Others, like Hana Yori Dango and Pet Shop of Horrors, are my sister's manga.

miscellaneous manga (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b288/holangjai/manga%20album/DSC03589.jpg)

I keep most of my complete series in the closet. It's gotten to the point where 60% of my closet space is used up for housing manga. For the time being, I have completed manga put into long comic book boxes which coincidentally fit the height of viz/tp books. They are put in order or publisher and alphabetically. What doesn't go into the boxes gets put into the overhead part in my closet.

Holy Carp! :O You weren't kidding when you said you had a lot of manga... [my collection feels puny compared to yours. xp]
Do you just go to a bookstore and buy any manga series that they have...? Honestly, and I thought some of the stores I frequent had a lot.

I have read everything except for the books that are missing volumes to continue and the VIZBIG Editions. I love how the vizbigs look, but I haven't sat down and read them yet.

No, I actually don't buy my books at retail stores. Mostly online. I've also visited a few used bookstores, which is why I have so many sporadic, noncontinuous series. It's also because I've got a lot of series that I want to collect, so whatever becomes available and and on hand i'll grab. So I guess you are sorta right, lol.

Wow Holangjai! Very impressive! Where did you get your Black bookcase at? I have a pretty huge wood bookcase that's about the same depth as yours I bought at best buy. I kinda flubbed up when I put it together as I installed some of the shelves backwards where the rough part is exposed. Oh well, it was my first time putting something together like that by myself, tee-hee. I will try and post pics sometime soon!

Figures (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b122/bloody_horizon/Collection/DSC03926.jpg)

Sorry for the slight blur of some of the photos. I wasn't really paying attention and didn't care to take them over again.

I think that's pretty much it. My backlog has two more volumes since I took the picture and I have a ton of manga (that I don't want) shoved in my closet somewhere as well as four plastic bins full of magazines, figures, and other random crap. At the rate I go of buying manga, this will probably be out of date in a few days. xD

Pictures of my anime collection are posted in the "DVD Collection" thread in the Blu-Ray & DVD section.

Been meaning to do this for quite a while, but I haven't done it till now because it's a little difficult to take pics of my manga collection. They are stored in these clear drawers, so I have to take each one out to take a pic of it. There are 12 drawers in the unit, with 8 of them totally filled and 1 that's half filled. The tenth one has a few volumes of Clamp no Kiseki, a few artbooks and some other books. I also have all issues of Shojo Beat and a few years worth of Shonen Jump that I store under my bed in a couple clear totes. A good chunk of my collection is in manga bags, but I only use them to keep track of what I've read as they are already well protected inside the drawers.

The List (http://www.home.earthlink.net/~tigeress0218/version02/id21.html) (Not Complete)

The Pics

I suppose I'm in line for the 'well-needed manga update':
http://i36.tinypic.com/16kxh0y.jpg
Currently, it is at 298 manga. I think the last time I posted I was at 232, so I sure have bought quite a bit since last year.

Right photo (http://i34.tinypic.com/j8dt8g.jpg.). My manga bookcases that I keep the majority of my manga in, and who are often rearranged. [I moved a few things around from normal, just to get everything in one nice shot.]
Left photo (http://i36.tinypic.com/fxuudd.jpg). These bookshelves are actually in the side of my closet. My dad and I built them a few months ago, and they are proving very useful :) Actually, all the books on the very top and half the ones in the middle belong in a cardboard box, but I didn't want to have three pictures [those are the cheap $1 ones I've found].
On another note, I had to remove most of my clothes in my closet to take the picture, and I was a bit disappointed I couldn't capture my books on my bottom as well.

Beautiful collections everyone! It seems these days that the only way to adequately store our overflow of manga and/or anime merchandise is to build shelves. Granted if I actually sat down and laid out a plan on how to build a shelf I could probably do it because i'm pretty crafty, but alas I am also lazy.

I just updated not too long ago and i've purchased a lot throughout July and August. I might need to take new photos soon. Mendokusai, nee?

at least you have your own room. My room is big, but I share it with my brother, so putting another shelf up is going to be an undertaking itself. i've got 1 big shelf, one small shelf and one medium shelf up in my room along with 2 beds, 2 computer tables, a tv stand and one drawer for clothes. I need to somehow get rid of the small and medium shelves and buy another large shelf to fit here

@DarkNataku - Hey I have the same exact bookcase you have! I got mine at Best Buy and I can relate about the Larger manga books only fitting in certain shelves. I have all 5 volumes of the Battle Royale Ultimate hardback editions that I keep on the very top of the bookcase. That way I'll have more room for future smaller manga, or anime dvds.

I will need another one by the end of this year. Best Buy site says it doesn't have any but I'm sure if I walk in I can find one. There is this sweet bookcase online that is 6ft 4in by 6ft 4in but I can't fit it in my room.

I apologize in advance if there is already a thread like this ...

Anyway, there is a DVD collection thread, so I figured a manga collection thread was a good idea.

We have how much manga do you have, who has a crazy amount of manga etc ...

But how about a picture of everyone's collection?

Here's mine:

Now, show me yours, please!

Probably because that was posted a long time ago, so the link may not work anymore ^^;

Ahhh, I resolve to post another picture soon! I actually sold off a significant amount of my tankoubans (Japanese ones) this year, most of them oneshot smutty shoujos, but I kept a few of those that I liked xD I think I'll check back by October after I've bought some more books :D

That's because I posted it FIVE YEARS AGO. So, I obviously deleted the picture. Besides, after FIVE YEARS, do you really think my collection would still look like that?

So I'm thinking of building my own bookcase. All I need to do is buy materials and a sander. I'm thinking of making it 5ft 5in long and about 6ft high I like the bookcase that I have now but having to rearrange my books because they don't fit in certain shelves bugs me. So when I build mine i want to start the shelves from the ground up making sure that all of them are the same height. I'm going to try to model it after the ones I have but I don't want to use a long board across because then after a while it will bend. Any suggestions would be much appreciated as well as what type of wood or finish. Thanks

Your going to need more then just a sander your going to need a hole bunch of tool and it will cost you 3 times as much as to buy one. But if you to do it you mite what to build it where your going to put it its going to be heavy

Well, hi. I've taken an interest in manga, not so long ago. I've not much manga, but I really love the titles that I own. I do not own a title that I do not love. (Maybe except for the Vampire Knight 4 whom I never read, because I want to start all fresh and at all, at volume 1)

Hello,

I'm french people, and as I've seen here nice collections, I decided to show mine, especially by the fact that in France, we have a good and wide choice in the "manga world" :) (with more than 30 different publishers)

I started my collection 16 years ago, but my collection is not entirely mine. Indeed, I share it with my wife (who has the same passion as me) since 5 years.

So, we manage our collection on a manga/DVD collection management site (the most important on the french web), where there are over 20 000 collectors people : http://www.manga-sanctuary.com/collection/

So, here are my photos stored on this site, hope you'll enjoy it :

Super Awesome collection. It sucks that in America we have less titles out, but I think it's because of the economy and how niche manga is. Not to mention didn't French manga have like 10-20 years of a head start compared to the US?

Anyways that's amazing that you and your spouse both collect together. Hopefully I can do something like that in the future too.

The first manga title published in France was in 1979, but until 1990, less than 10 books have been published !
The success of manga in France really began in the early 90's with Akira and Dragonball, but the main point that had make difference is probably the fact that japanimation was very very popular since 1978 (beginning with and including Grendizer, captain herlock, Candy candy etc...). For example, all the megahit of Toei animation (saint seiya/DB/ hokuto no Ken...) were released in 1988. So, together with such interest and importance with the old market of French/Belgium comics (and their many publishers), everything came for the success. (it seems that recent years, the French market has become the second largest market in the world of manga after Japan.)

Currently in France, we have almost 150 volumes published per month (and we bought only half) and it represents 40% of the comics market. The most interesting is perhaps also the publication of titles from the underground and heritage titles : even if it does not sell very well, fans are served (but on the other side only 9 (shônen) titles make 50% of the sales : naruto alone make 15%...)

Anyways that's amazing that you and your spouse both collect together. Hopefully I can do something like that in the future too.

I wish for you too (more than that, like me, she is a big fan of video games, especially RPG : geek's dream  )
In fact, we met on a manga/anime forum, then IRL, then...:P

Our collection is 2400 volumes for her (400 series) and 3500 for me (600 series) : we'll reach soon the 6000 mark (and the 1000 series! )

The list (http://www.manga-sanctuary.com/collection.php?id=27539&page=liste&filtre_support=livres&type_collec=ms)

The stats (http://www.manga-sanctuary.com/collection.php?id=27539&page=stats&type_collec=ms)

to complete my last post, here is the photo of our (too big) "non-read-yet" volumes :

non-read mangas (http://www.manga-sanctuary.com/collection/photos/27539/0011.jpg)

it is very sad, we do not have enough time to read everything... :(

And last point, I have also almost 400 volumes and 150 single DVD stored at my parent's home (I keep the space for new books in our apartment), so they don't appear on the photos ;)

Ahhh I haven't visited this thread in such a long time...

I started collecting manga in English in July of 2010. Now my shelf is pretty close to full, but since I'm waiting on a small order of books from amazon, I'll wait for those to come in so I can re-arrange my shelves to take a nice picture. :)

Sad story- I sold my entire collection of Doraemon last year to a dear friend of mine who is a big fan. I know it's in good hands, though, so I'm not too sad. :)
My Japanese collection's been pretty trimmed down...I hope everyone's looking forward to seeing my updated pictures, lol.

Also, Arkiokin, you might have the largest manga collection I've ever seen. Impressive o-o
