I apologize in advance because I don’t know if the Mods will allow such a thread and if it violates any rules please delete it. anyway what do you rather Sun Coast or Best Buy.
For me I rather BB, but I'm doomed because SC only anime retail shop in my area and the SC in my area is not even that close, so I always have to go to SC which I hate, but SC does have an upper hand on BB with it’s selection in my area.

And again, you can't "rather" something.

I'd say between those two, Suncoast cares more about anime than Best Buy... Though, all in all, it is best to buy from places that are there for us fans and care about what we want and like; I'm an AnimeNation gal.

Suncoast is like 5-10 more expensive on every DVD. Why in god's green earth would anyone prefer Suncoast?

Because of the selection, I've seen a lot DVD's at Suncoast that i've never seen at Best buy.

I mostly buy online. I'll go to Best Buy if I know something just came out or if I want to get a more popular movie. I'll buy stuff from Suncoast occasionally, but only if I can't get it online or at another brick-and-mortar store.

Used to go with SC when they were the only local retailer to carry a decent selection of anime, but the only thing I've tried to buy from SC in the last five years was the Zeta boxset. (mad Impulse buying urge to see it at the time.) I conviently ran out of cash with the added tax...
Only go to BB on occasion if I am in a rush to see something new, but they've really cut back on their anime selection recently. So now I mainly just float around to whatever online site has the best deals..

I buy all my anime online, Sunncoast and Best Buy are too expensive, I can get all my anime DVD's ridiculously Cheap off the retailer I use, and no bootlegs. A liscensed retailer. But, sometimes, I manage to find some DVDs at mom and pops stores in my city and they sell stuff cheap. I do though, buy stuff from AnimeNation as well, I happen to by some figures sold online, although I never buy anime DVD's from AnimeNation, just merchendise.

I actually have one of those replay cards. It would be worth it if I actually bought most of my stuff there, but I regret buying the damn thing.
Also, the staff at the one by me is actually good about not pushing you to buy random stuff you don't care about. Plus, a few of the people there actually know about anime, so that's always good.

Albiet, That is a good plus with Suncoast, They actually know their Anime and Manga. I remember talking to one of the workers there about an anime title I wanted to buy and he told me the pro's and cons of the series which I thought was very nice and kinda unprofessional of an employee which was kinda cool.

no problem. :)
I remember all the annoying things I used to go through when I used to be a victim of Sunncoast. I would buy anime there and of course saw my leg off and give it to them in exchange for the anime, and they would pester me: would you like to join the masses and participate in our pointless replay reward that gets you some good gift vertificates at the end of each month when you spend X amount of dollars you get X amount back on a gift certificate, but you have to spend ALOT to get a decent check. not worth it, Sunncoast is too expensive for that.
The store I order from online has a gigantic selection and they are cheap as dirt. no problems here.

I prefer to buy online, and rarely go to a retail store. But between Suncoast and Best Buy, I usually go to Suncoast, because their selection is broader, and therefore they are more likely to have what I want, even if their prices are higher. And the Suncoast near me, because of where it is, happens to be, more often than not, a little more convenient.
When I go to a retail store, it's because I'm possessed by the devil of impatience and the demon of "I want to make one phone call, and one phone call only." I have not had any problems with Suncoast, and some of the employees at the one near me actually have knowledge of anime, which is a plus.

How does Best Buy even sell their anime so cheap?
Bulk. They probably buy an amount of dvds of a new release for cheap, and distribute for cheap. Stuff online their website is cheaper than in-store. For example, Stellvia dvds were $25 in-store, but $15 online BB.
No one in their right mind goes to suncoast, unless that is the only option available.

In other words me, I sometimes have to go to Suncoast for my anime fix b/c A) I don't have a credit card and don't plan to get one in the near future, So I have to go with Money Order.
B) The wait from internet is sometimes unbearable and I'm not paying an X amount of dollars for next day delivery.
and C) there isn't any other anime retailer anywhere close to me, The closest BB is like 2 hours away...and thats if the trains and busses run on schedule.

I buy 100% of my anime and related merchandise online, mainly because that's my only option. I'm practically surrounded by orchards and wheat fields (incidently one field caught on fire a couple days ago >_< that had me a little nervous). It would take me about 3 hours of driving to get to the closest Best Buy or Suncoast, so with gas prices as high as they are here, it's much more practical for me to go online for my stuff. ^_^

I almost always get mine at Best Buy. They are the cheapest when it comes to stores selling anime. Sun Coast does have a better selection, but I can get the stuff Best Buy doesn't sell online for much cheaper.
The reward zone card I got for Sun Coast isn't even worth it. Even when I get the gift cards in the mail, it's still cheaper to get anime from Best Buy. The only thing the gift cards are good for is if they have a manga I want.
I don't have a credit card (too young), so I on the rare occasions I do order online, I buy it from uh...the 3 D's (I know some of you know what that stands for) because they sell their stuff very cheap.

I get most anime from Amazon.com really.
Animenation's service is top notch, but Amazon is pretty good with their service too.
Also, Amazon's pricing is sometimes $5 , $10 and even $20 cheaper than some Animenation prices.
I miss the old days when I had to pay no tax when buying merchandise off the web. I still pay a lot less tax when I'm buying over the net though.

I usually go to Suncoast. It is in a mall really close to me. The closest best buy, on the other hand, is almost as close as the AN store! So I rarely ever go there.
I'd love to move to the part of the city that is rather close to that Best Buy and the AN store, as well as to my church, Borders, and my fave restaurant. Too bad it would be an hour away from my job, while right now I drive only slightly above half an hour.

i used to get all of my anime online because i could find good selection and good prices. however, although the selection is limited, best buy is a better choice for me now. this is mostly because i get the employee discount and can get box sets for prices that i couldn't hope to match even online. this is just a personal bias really... maybe i need to start working at a bookstore so i can get cheaper manga...

One reason I dont usually shop at Suncoast is they always try to persuade me to either:

I never shop at Suncoast. Not only is the Suncoast be me expensive, but they actually don't have such a great selection. That store location happens to be a small suncoast though. I have been to bigger ones, but that was before I even was a fan of Anime. I like getting my anime on sale or discount. I would only use Suncoast as a last resort. I am sure that other locations near me do have a bigger selection though. The 2 Best Buy stores near me actually have really good selection along with good prices. But, I still always check online first for any product I think about purchasing to check prices, availability, and information about the product. In other words, it depends on the best deal I can get on an anime product I am interested in.

Suncoast is just to high their dvd sales are like around 29.99 while BestBuy prices are around 18.99.
I purchased Shura No Toki age of chaos at the price of 18.99 while at Suncoast there like 25.99 and up.
The only thing about Bestbuy is that there not in many locations because BestBuy is just starting to up rise from the shadows.

Any retail outlet that has a "membership" program tells its employees to pimp their cards to every single customer. I used to work for Canada's Largest Book Chain/Monopoly. We were told to sell it to every customer. I would ask if they had a card and if they wanted to hear about it I'd tell them, otherwise I'd shut up and not bother them, which got me into trouble quite often.
Thankfully we have our own store now, and we don't fuss about with card programs. Why not just keep prices low for everyone? That's our philosophy.

Yes you always have to ask people about Replay and Entertainment Weekly magazine subscriptions (and yes there is a uniform way of asking.) ^_^ If you don’t you will loose your job rather quickly (you get points every time you sell one of those including DVD Doctors, DVD cases ect. and if you don’t make a certain amount of points you get talked to.) I used to work for them when I was in high school and 1 ½ years after; but once Best Buy bought it out it wasn’t fun anymore. (BTW Best Buy no longer owns Sun Coast anymore.) ;)

Best Buy. I'm pretty sure there isn't a suncoast near anywhere I live. I never buy off the internet, because I would have to pay shipping and handling and then I would have to wait for it to come in the mail. I hate waiting. Really? The people that work at the SC I go to never asked me about subcriptions........Only Replay....
That’s interesting....... -_-; Every Sun Coast I shop at always asks me about Entertainment Weekly (but you have to be paying with a Credit Card for them to ask you if you would like the 8 free week’s trial; then after the 8 weeks you get charged on your Credit Card for the rest of the issues or until you cancel the subscription.) ^_^

You know, there are better sites out there to get anime DVDs from than Animenation. -_-; The site I shop at has just a good of selection of anime DVDs as Animenation and their prices are dirt cheap, not to mention it's all legit and I've had no problems ordering from them. :) Unfortunately if you are looking for manga, that perticular site doesn't sell any and just DVDs.
Maybe so, but how many of said sites deliver to APO adresses? Really haven't seen too many, that l am aware of. Won't be a problem for me anymore in the next few days, but has been the last four and a half years. Nothing more frustrating than finding a site you like that doesn't ship to APO adresses. Military mail is notoriously slow, especially when in a combat zone.
For me it was a matter of convience that AN shipped to my address.

Best Buy and Suncoast don't exist to my knowledge in Mexico. Frankly I rarely buy anime on DVD in Mexico because they are so expensive (how bout 70 dollars for a 20 dollar DVD?). I only buy DVD's on sale down here. On sheer luck I got Spirited Away (legit) for only 100 pesos (9 dollars) at Gigante. The normal price of that DVD is 250 pesos. I'm pretty good at finding bargains. :)
However when i was in LA, I loved buying at Best Buy. I don't see why people complain about the dvd selection, it was just as good as Tower Records only far cheaper. I am a sales scavenger and found the first Fruits Basket DVD at BB for 13 dollars. I now only have one FB dvd left to buy.
Taking resale dvd stores aside, BB was my overall favorite place. target isn't bad for the prices but the selection is pretty poor. I also heard that Target will eventually stop selling anime DVD's alltogether. That sucks.
I don't recall seeing any Suncoast stores in LA.

I mostly buy online these days. Oh wells.
BB is slipping lately though. Their anime section has become smaller and is being pushed towards the back of the DVD sections. Seems their movie DVD section is getting bigger and they're shrinking anime shelf space for it. At least at the one BB closest my house.
Suncoast is still the same. Big anime section really, but prices are retail. Good to buy there if I absolutely need to have some series thats not that big since SC will likely have it. I don't buy snacks from them though, I have tons of oriental stores here that sell them for much cheaper. Manga too, I go to a bookstore for that.

Yep, I really don't like their store. Great forums, but I won't take a chance ever again buying from them. I think it's stupid I had to wait over three months just to get in a few DVDs that I coulda gotten anywhere else in probably a week or less.

I usually go with whoever has the cheapest price I can find. (I voted that I use online sites BTW). I'd say 95% come from an online site that I've had super good luck with, they carry everything (manga, dvd's, cels, etc.) and thier standard shipping (while kinda expensive unless you order $100 or more, then it's free :)) is very fast.
A few times I've bought stuff at Suncoast but it is only when it's the first week a titles is out and it's on sale (even then it's still almost the same as BB's standard price -_-; ) or I dig through they're used stuff and try to pick up old titles for cheap. Other then that I avoid Suncoast like the plague they're insane ($150 for Hellsing boxset! who buys this stuff?).
As for BB I go there once in a while usually to get a single dvd since it doesn't make since to pay shipping for one dvd. But I have noticed that thier selection is kinda going downhill they seem to have tons of dvd's for one series then nothing for 5 other series that are just as popular. personally I just stick with my fav online store, and make big orders for the free shipping. :)

Back then, I used to buy my anime from Suncoast most of the time. They had such a great selection from titles that I never had problems finding what I wanted. On the other hand, Best Buy tends to have lower prices but there anime selection isn't as varied as Suncoast was. When I bought anime, I carefully looked at the prices at Best Buy and Suncoast to compare which disc would be cheaper to buy. Most of the time, I'd go where it was cheapest.
Sam Goody is owned by the same company that owns Sun Coast. (Music Land) ;)
Correct, both Sam Goody which is more universal to music, movies, and videogames, and Suncoast which specializes mostly in movies are owned by Music Land. The Music Land chain itself totally specialize in music.

All of the above. The internet, Sun and BB. Lately, I have noticed that my local BB has been lacking variety, so I had to go to Sun. If I am not anxious to see a title and want to save money, I'll order from the net. So it all depends on the situation.

I usually shop Amazon, since they not only have the pre-ordering, but their free shipping is set lower than AN. If AN lowered their free shipping to $25 or even $30 on DVDs, I'd shop there, because I would prefer to give my money to them than Amazon. But I have to think about my wallet with the amount of anime I buy. I usually buy in blocks of 2 to get the free shipping, which is quite a juggling game with release dates.
If I'm impatient and I see that BB has something for roughly the same price as Amazon, I will just buy it at BB and pay the sales tax.

This is one of my worst fears while shopping online, another is since I don't have a credit card I have to resort to money order and I'm always scared that my check will get lost in the mail or the place I'm sending it to doesn't recieve it. This is one of the reasons that I don't shop online more than the normal.

I've ordered probably $800 worth of stuff from them (dvd's manga, wallscrolls, shirts, figures) over the last 6 months or so and have yet to run into trouble. Definately Suncoast (sorry AN...). I'm a Replay member and since I buy so much manga and (occasionally) CDs and magazines there, it really pays off. I like the atmosphere a whole lot better, also, and at least the clerks know what you're talking about (it's a small store with minimum variety of medium; they get to know it after a while).
I mean, I highly doubt that if I ask a clerk in Best Buy "What's a good manga series out right now?"--and unless they're a manga nerd...*ahem* fan--then they'll know how to answer that. (BTW, Wallflower is a lovely series~ XD)

as far as i know, Best Buy doesn't sell manga, at least the one i work at doesn't. (well, we have like 2 copies of Ragnarok that nobody has bought for about 2 years now...) but i'll agree with you on your point, most Best Buy employees don't know the first thing about anime.
the full time employees who work in media know more then you might think though. anyone who has been working there long enough will start to figure it out. but yeah, certainly part timers don't care about anime for the most part.
i, on the other hand, work there part time but would love to have someone ask what anime are good... most of the time when i check to see if the people in the anime section need help, they seem pretty scared. begin fearful thought train: "oh man, why is he talking to me? maybe if i just don't say anything and stare at the new GitS he'll leave me alone..." :naughty: i guess they don't get out much...

my problem w/ SC is the $5 reserving thing. it doesn't seem like i'm saving a lot of $$$ cuz when u add the cost, tax, and then $5 reserve fee, ur pretty much paying retail price. i just don't see the point in these "buy more and u get a $5 coupon" memberships. i mean u basically spend $100 and get $5 back, which can only be used at their store, and can be used to take off taxes. just give me 25%-50% discounts and free shipping anytime

I typically buy the DVDs as soon as they come out, or I've had them preordered, so I pay the same price as I would at Best Buy, not to mention Suncoast has a superior selection than the BB near me, and if they don't have a title in stock, they'll order it for me. Suncoast. When you reserve DVDs, they are the same price as Best Buy. And they have manga, anime soundtracks and other anime merchandise. And then there's the Replay Points. Best Buy is only good for box sets, since you usually can't reserve them and Suncoast's sale price on box sets isn't as good as the BB price.

like i said, it isnt a FEE, it is a DEPOSIT. you basically pay for a part of it up front.
alright, fine, i'll accept that. then where do u save the $$$?
even on those triple points days there wasn't enough incentive for me to pay for dvds/boxes at regular retail prices. sorry, its all about $$$ w/ me. i guess it stems from my DBZ VHS/DVD days when i felt i was getting taken from SC

You save the $$$ when you buy DVDs at sale or reserve prices (or manga at the regular price) and get the points for the gift certificates.
What you do is reserve things (and pay for all of it, not just the $5 minimum) on triple point days. That way, you get it at a good price and get the triple points, plus you'll get points again when you pick it up.

Suncoast sucks in my opinion. Generally, you have to pay around $10 more at Suncoast than you do at Best Buy. Granted Best Buy doens't have the kind of selection that Suncoast has, but it sure is a hell of alot cheaper.
It shouldn't matter anyway since the cheapest prices for anime are from online retailers.

The majority of anime fans that I know of hardely ever reserve anime. I have never reserved an anime myself. If you are a casual fan of anime or are looking to get into it, then Best Buy is the clear cut winner.

I agree with Joeshie. I'm the kinda person who hates shopping and when I go to buy anime, I just get what I want and head off to the register and that's that. I don't feel like taking even more time having to tell the cashier what I want to reserve and etc. Most of the time I don't even need to bother with reserving stuff because it's always there the day I go to buy it if I don't buy online.

I absolutely agree with you, Why do I feel I have to reserve a title that I can get for the same price if not cheaper at other places, Also the waiting, If I’m going to wait might as well get it online where it’d be a lot cheaper.

it is business. I work for that company, and i did a lot of shopping there before hand. I even said that their prices were a bit too high. But since i reserve, i get them for really cheap. Media Play is more about customer service than price.

You save the same amount if you buy it the week it's released too. Reserving is just the easiest way to insure that you remember to buy it when it's first released. And you get the discount even if you're not an employee. I'm not affiliated with the Musicland group and the DVDs at Suncoast cost exactly the same, or in many cases cheaper, than they are at Best Buy when you get them when they're released. I'll not argue that they're cheaper than online, that's just silly, but they are the same price or cheaper than Best Buy. That is fact, and to argue that is also silly. Examples: Chrono Crusade vol. 7 BB- $19.99 SC- $19.99 Kodocha starter set BB- $35.99 SC- $34.99 DearS vol. 1 w/box BB- $34.99 SC- $34.99 I could go on, but even a garden slug can see the point I'm making. Out of that sample of recently released DVDs the oh so expensive Suncoast is actually cheaper. Perhaps you can't always buy DVDs when they're first released, so I'll concede that Best Buy would be your better option then, but for people like me who buy as soon as a title I want comes out and doesn't like buying online, Suncoast is the way to go.

I cant choose any of those options. Suncoast ((or Sam Goody)) doesnt have much of a selection, and they are high-priced. Best Buy's selection is simply put, barely anything to choose from, even with the low-screwed up prices. I dont order online, because Im not allowed.
((So I download or get really lucky at Best Buy and find what Im looking for))

That's true, I can understand that. But I'm more like you, Bishoujo Senshi: I want my anime right when it comes out, so reserving at Suncoast makes the most sense for me as there is no guarantee that BB will have what I want when it's out.

given, BB employees won't know as much as the Suncoast guys since there is a broader product base, but people in general (not just store employees) are willing to share their knowledge and talk about things they enjoy given the chance.

Bah! This is an impossible poll for me.
Really, it depends on what city I am in, and what title I am looking for. Some distributors of anime are focused on more in one store than the other. Anime soundtracks though, that's a Suncoast/Sam Goody/Media Play-only deal, since Best Buy refuses to deal in that niche music genre. I would buy soundtracks online, but I don't deal with imports....way too expensive for me, otherwise, I'd buy imports online.
Niche anime titles, and some series I'm revisiting (Fushigi Yuugi, the forthcoming Slayers rerelease), I usually buy online, unless I'm at one of those two stores that would maybe carry them, and I have the cash.
My city will be getting one of those new 'small town' format Best Buys soon....just went by it the other day, and the exterior of the store is nearly finished. It'll only be 20,000 sq ft or so, so I'm doubting they'll carry anime, which would stink, but oh well. That's what online stores like AN are for. :)

I dont talk to many people about anime, they usually know about what they want though, and dont wanna talk to a salesman.

Like peopel have said, we get some people complaining about prices (but regular movies are prices quite reasonably.

Here a little info about Best Buy a lot of time's they do not put Anime DVD's out when they have it in stock because they do not have the shelf space. The best thing to do is to ask someone who works there to check on the computer it is usually best to find what you want on the computer by the music section then show them they can run a stock check right from there.

Suncoast is just really expensive if you don't get the DVDs on sale. I like their selection of soundtracks, though. Plus, I get a lot of my anime merchandise, such as figurines, from there.
That's kind of the same with Borders and Waldenbooks also. I go to Borders because they have such a bigger selection of manga than Waldenbooks...

I've been a member of the Replay Rewards program since October 2000 and I have to say that it always that good. For every $100 you spend, you only get $5 back. Every penny normally counts towards 1 point, and when you reach 10,000 points, you get a $5 certificate. There are many other benefits too including bonus points even for just renewing your membership. I've gotten over $450 in total already.
On the plus side, when double and triple point promotions come along, this is the time when Replay rewards are at there best, because every penny would count towards 2 or 3 points instead of just 1, and you can save alot of money, do the math!! I love those multiple point deals, they are great for buying alot of anime at one time and I've turned out to save alot of money from it. I defintiely take advantage of this benefit.
Even though the prices at Suncoast are at there MSRP price, and I don't gain almost anything back from my replay points at 1 point, they have such a huge selection of anime, and thats why I like shopping here.

After I looked it up on the website I called the 800 number and asked why the in store computer system has it listed for $9.99 while the website has it listed for $36.99. Got told were not really the same company the store's are the store's the website is the website and my local store's manager got really ignorant when I ask if they could special order it. So I say :censored: you Best Buy of Dover, Delaware and bestbuy.com you lost a customer. Best Buy since the beginning of this year even at the one's I've been to out of state have been discounting alot of the anime and the shelf in my local store has been getting smaller and smaller it use to take up 4 shelves ,then three ,and now two. And they use to take pre-order's on anime at least at my local store but, as of the end of may of 05 they stopped.
I did get some good new's today the local suncoast looked like it's anime and manga got a bigger and better section and selection.

One touchy subject I want to talk about here, hentai sold in stores. A few years ago when I used to shop Sam Goody for anime, they had rows upon rows of anime, not to a point of Suncoasts variety though, but still large enough to be considered ok. Nowadays, I walk in to a Sam Goody store, and I've been seeing alot less anime variety and more hentai titles available. Is this the trend anime is taking nowadays?!? This goes to show the anime market really is degrading. Sam Goody is a subsidiary of Media Play so I hope this isn't happening anywhere else in Media Play stores, because I don't like hentai!! I have not bought any anime for 2 years, but I've noticed that the anime market has definitely changed somewhat.

Actually, I think it's a good thing that Suncoast and the rest of the family of stores are carrying more hentai. To me, it means that Suncoast is respecting the anime as a whole instead of just a bunch of DBZ/Pokemon/Next big Thing titles. Granted, for several years now, I have been impressed at how Suncoast has been treating anime in there stores, but now that they openly carrying hentai titles increases my respect of them.
I don't shop there nearly as much anymore, nor willing to buy hentai from them(no desire to/way to expensive) but at least they are willing to cater to everyone, even the "perverts"

you know it's funny, I actually got into hentai a while ago and suncoast was actually the only store I knew that sold it, but know that the SC in my area closed (Along with Sam Goody) theres no place other than the internet to get my Hentai...and I wasn't that into it to do that. Ironic huh?

Most of my anime is from the internet, one from Best Buy, and none from Suncoast.

I mostly use online shopping now, but I occasionally but stuff from Best Buy. Suncoast is no longer an option for me.

I have to shop online for my anime, no one really sells what I want in my area. We don't have Best Buy or Suncoast over here.
When I went to Oregon to visit my parents, they have both nearby and I have to say, that even though Best Buy is cheaper, they don't have nearly as much as Suncoast has, so Suncoast wins.

I've only bought two titles at Best Buy and one at Suncoast. Unless there is a compelling reason not to, I buy virtually everything online except food.

Niether. I only buy anime on the internet, at hastings (www.gohastings.com) and on the discount rack in Gamestop. If I had to chose though I say Sun Coast.

Best Buy hands down. Even the stuff is at least 19.99...though why are Geneon DVDs higher???!!

Because it's Geneon who released them; they're always known for ridiculously expensive DVDs (even their thinpacks quickly drain my wallet.)
It seems I get my anime mainly at Best Buy now, since Fry's doesn't have any of the anime I want anymore, and every other store is too expensive. Too bad they have a rather limited selection (I can't find Cardcaptor Sakura ANYWHERE at Best Buy.)

I 'buy' all of my anime from netflix.
Oh, and when netflix doesn't have it I buy it from AN, RS, 3-D's, or Amz. Best Buy and Suncoast can kiss my bum.

Well, I know I posted in this last year, but with the demise of Suncoast in my area, I switched to online exclusively. I don't care to do any shopping at Best Buy because their customer service is awful. Heck, only reason why I kept going to Suncoast was because I was on a first name basis with everyone who worked there due to my hefty spending habits.

I've never even heard of Suncoast. -_-;
It depends...I don't really get as much anime as I used to, but when I got it, I got it from Best Buy...they're pretty chreap and have a noteworthy selection...they also have a great music section...
But for JMUSIC I always import offline.

Pretty much the same thing for me, I'm not even close to a BB and my local SC closed down, and even though I didn't like SC prices they had everything an anime fan needed, Manga, Magazine's, Jap. snacks, CD's, DVD, Apparel, etc.
Funny though, with all that they were charging for DVD's it was a shock they'ed close down so much stores.

I guess it all depends. I definitly go to bestbuy for the cheper prices. The only problem is that sometimes i can't find the rarer titles i sometimes look for. Thats when i go to suncoast. But there is like only one within a 50 mile radius of my house. Thats when i go online a purchase my stuff a lot cheaper. Especially boxsets :)

Easy for me to answer this. All Three!
Best Buy usually is my first stop though, since it's based on price. I'm set on boxes now....I won't buy series on single discs unless I'm forced to for series I like. (such as Ah! My Goddess TV). A decent sized store in a big city usually has me coming home with a box of anime goodness.
Suncoast: Sadly these are becoming quite a drive for me, and to go to one (nearest to me is the only two left in Wisconsin...both in the Milwaukee area) just to buy anime is ridiculous, what with gas prices and all. HOWEVER, if I'm in that city, it's almost always a required stop.
Today I went to both BB and Suncoast...searching for that Naruto Uncut (set 1, of many) that it seems Best Buy refuses to carry in their STORES! (Which shocks me, or perhaps it's just a plauge of Wisconsin-area Best Buys to not have the newest things...I don't know). Such was the case with the Naruto set.
Hit up Suncoast and they had plenty in stock.
Suncoast wins me over on niche titles, and it seems FYE is really trying hard to keep Suncoast's niche (and only saving grace of the chain) of anime alive and well, and it shows. I do hope they get a location closer to home with time.
For anything else I can't find at either store, or where I'm forced to buy online (due to exclusive arrangements, like that with Viz only offereing Maison Ikkoku on its own store or on order through RightStuf's anime catalog)....or if I'm just plain old impatient and wish not to drag myself to a faraway city, I shop online.
Edit/addition: As for 'frinding' Suncoast stores, good luck. They closed all small and mid-market stores. They are only in the largest cities now. Just look at the store locator on their website. Mostly concentrated now in the New England/NYC metropolis, Ohio Valley and scattershot 'metro areas' across the rest of the country, each only having 2-4 locations covering millions of people within said areas. In short, if you do not live in the likes of NYC, the Ohio Valley, Chicagoland, the LA area, or various large cities of millions....you've got a drive of an hour or more.
D'oH! I posted to this thread last year! Oh well, consider this a little 'update' then, post-Musicland (previoius owners of Suncoast) bankruptcy/FYE takeover.

The Suncoasts around here all closed down and BestBuy was never here in the first place. We just got a new place called f.y.e (for your entertainment), though, that has a wonderful selection of anime. It keeps its shelves up-to-date with all the newly licensed anime, along with all the classics like Maison Ikkoku and Urusei Yatsura. I'd never seen UY in a store before.

Funny, my FYE has just about the sh*ttiest anime selection I've ever seen; all they had was a couple Yu Yu Hakusho DVDs from what I can remember.

That blows. Over here they've got shelves and shelves of anime. I was really surprised when I first went in. Before f.y.e my only source of anime was Media Play, which had a horrible selection. Then it closed down and f.y.e was opened in its place. Much better. :) No need to order online anymore (though I still do, I like getting the lowest price I can get).

I'd vote for the third option, except I don't buy anything from anime nation, and do not want lead others in thinking I might. I don't understand buying from B&M stores anymore.
Granted, standing in the anime isles can be rather heavenly, it doesn't make me want to buy anime there. I see a bunch of dvds I want, until I look at the price, slouch in dissapointment, and put it back on the shelf. As far as I'm concerned, physical stores are only good for getting an idea of what boxset packaging, etc, looks like.

I preffer Best Buy over Sun Coast simply because BB has better prices and the selection of anime they have depends on the store you go to. Some have a good/descent selection while others don't.
