Kind of teared up, so I'll let that go as shedding a tear. Actually that episode where tucker made the chimera it really pissed me off that he wasn't summarily executed by Ed.

That's the ep. that got me. Also, when Scar killed the chimera (the daughter and dog) at the end, when Ed and Al found the body, my body started to feel weak, it made me emotional. That episode got me addicted to the series.

I was kind of relived when the chimera was executed and decided that scar wasn't so bad... I mean, I couldn't stand to see Nina+the dog like that.

Are you kidding? Has FMA ever made me cry? Seriously?

1) When Nina is turned into a chimera and when Scar kills her.
2) When Hughes is killed and his daughter is at the funeral. (Dear god)
3) When Al starts to freak out thinking he is fake and he ditches his bro.
4) When Ed gets pissed and throws the cup at Al and Al just says, "Brother."

Yeah. That is a sad fooking show.

Nope, I've only seen the first twelve episodes and I haven't cried. I somehow doubt that I will cry anyways from seeing the rest of FMA. The only time I actually felt sorry for an anime character was in G Gundam when Master Asia died.

DragonBanes right about Nina's father being a jerk. I was crying during that episode..and when Hughes dies..and the episode when they remember their mother (course that was only a tear.) The only anime to ever make me cry >.< I swear I wanna go over to japan and re-write the part where Hughes dies. He was so cool. Darn you people that made FMA!

I cried on the Chimera thing. But something interesting, on the one about their mom. I was watching with my dad (who doesn't watch anime) and he cried! Because he lost his mom in a car accident in his early teens. He could relate to Ed and Al. Isn't that depressing?

August 19th, 2005, 05:36 PM
omg, don't mention Wolf's Rain. that was SO sad... but FMA is the anime i've teared up the most on, and actually shed a tear. The chimera ep (and i also would like to kill Tucker over and over, in a most painful way :ssj: ) and when Hughes died... i almost lost it when his little girl started yelling all that stuff, cuz she reminded me of my little 5 yr old sis... :'(

Rai Kumo
August 19th, 2005, 06:24 PM
Yes, I will have to admit to crying once like a baby, and getting tear-full once.

I was Okay through the whole Hughes episode, but then at the very end when his duaghter was cryng that he had a lot of work to do and she didn't understand why he was being buried, I got a little tearful, but didn't actually cry.

The thing with Nina just made me mad, and made me think about how sick some people are. It also made me feel sick, but I didn't tear up even a little.

But when I really, really started bawling was at the end. SPOILER!! (This is the ending to the series, so I'm not sure if you really want to spoil yourself on it!) (highlight) [When Ed brings Al back to life, but the cost is Al's memories of their past years together since their mother died. He forgets it all. He then doesn't know what happened to his brother, and goes back to Sensie to study alchemy and try to find his brother.] I was seriously crying then....

I'm lighthearted, so I have always cried when a main (or important) character dies in FMA. (or, it may just have to do with my strong attatchment towards the series. XD) So far, the episode with the flashback where the elric's mother died and the episode where Hughes is killed have made me sob. They were both so heartbreaking. :crybaby:
I couldn't help but also cry at the end of the episode, 'the night of the Chimera's cry', but not as much for a reason. Heh, I actually hear that the end of the series is more depressing than those three episodes put together, so I really dunno what I'm in for.

As emotional as I am though, FMA is the only anime series that has really made me cry. =/ (aside from some of Samurai X) Its sad, yet can be so funny at times too. XD Can't help but to giggle when someone calls the blondie a 'pipsqueak'!

 You're just like me! I cry during Fullmetal Alchemist a lot. (It balances out the laughing, I guess...) "Night of the Chimera's Cry" had me crying...It was sad...I haven't seen the episode with Hughes's death, though...That one will probably have me bawling.

And, yes, I heard the end of the series is sad...Even the movie. Guess we have to prepare ourselves, huh?

(Oh, and I cried a lot at the end of Samurai X: Reflections.) :)

My saddest moment was when Hughes was killed. The funeral scene did me in. I was crying hard. ^^ And the only other time I've cried while watching TV was like when I was 12 and watching a certian part of the Fox and the Hound. XXD

I teared up during "Night of the Chimera's Cry", but that was tempered by the fact that I wanted Ed to beat Tucker to death with his bare freaking hands.

I have. Once when I saw Night of the Chimera's Cry for the first time, the second time I just teared up for a second.

Episode 25, when Maes Hughes was killed by Envy transformed as his wife. Imagine how sad that'd be to see your "wife" shoot you just before you die. His daughter added to the atmosphere so much. Each time I see that one I cry.

Near the end of the series where: Mustang and Riza find out the furher was a homunculus and went to his house. He killed his own son. Roy gets his eyepatch. o_o

Lastly, at the very end. Al didnt remember Ed or anything at all about their hardships and everything they went through. The music in the background didnt help either.

So, yes, I have cried or teared up a few times.

[edit] Also, Mustang's entire military history makes me a bit sad. (Ishbal, Rockbell's, Hughes, etc)

Everything about this show makes me depressed in some way or the other. The complexity of Roy's actions and feelings really makes me sad sometimes. I can really feel the hardship that he has been through when I watch certain episodes. It absolutely killed me when Ed knocks Roy's hand away when they're going to shake. The looks on their faces, you can tell that Ed is being too stuborn to say goodbye or thanks since he wants to believe he'll survive with Al and Roy looking at their situation realistically and realizing that it's probably the last time that he will see the young man that he's tried to protect. The conversation in the car also made me sad
I bawled when Hughes died and Roy comments about it raining. His daughter didn't help much at all. Let's see... I got really really antsy when Ed faced off against Roy and company and Roy and Armstrong were unnervingly serious about it--makes you wonder if they were, somewhat?
And also, I teared up when Al forgets all of the hardships that they've gone through T_T That's not cool at all!
The whole thing about Roy being haunted by all the things that he has done and consequently trying his hardest to rise through the military ranks only to give everything up to do the right thing in the end (including one eye...yeouch) was really depressing and made me tear up. I loved it when the Fuhrer steps forward and Roy's just standing there beside the door--So cool, but so sad. I teared up when Roy was revealed as the person who killed the Rockbells, too.

And so many many more things (Like Nina, but who *didn't* get sad and tear up just a little at that?) that it's not even funny.

I'm a crybaby when it comes to FMA, and I tend to read forever inbetween the lines and am usually very sensitive towards the relationships between characters. Sometimes, little things that rests around the "outer edges" of the story gets to me more than anything else. This series absolutely killed me just for the fact that so many characters have interwoven relationships and horribly depressing happenings in their past. T_T It makes me dread re-watching it for the movie (even though I love it).

When something sad happened in Naruto it gave you a "wow that really sucked" or "man they have it bad" feeling but in the FMA anime it just seemed forced not the Hughes death mind you but other things like the town with that disease it wasn't necessary to the plot or anything else for that matter it was just there for tears.

I actually liked that episode with the people having that disease changing them to stone. It wasn' t necessary for Ed' s side, but we learn more about Lust. I think it' s a good thing. That episode was necessary because she begins to have doubts and starts remembering thing from her past. The episode had to be there, cause very shortly after that, she really wasn' t the same Lust as in the beginning. She' s softening up, and even betrays Dante and the other. If the episode wasn' t there, there' ll be a gap.
I don' t think the episode was there for tears. There' re even sadder moments than this one. It' s mostly for us to learn more about Lust.

So Naruto jerked tears? The only thing that jerks tears about that show is the horrible filler. Oh and here's the part that almost made me cry in Naruto When Choji was going to die after taking the "red pill." The sad thing though is that they can't actually kill off a character in the show. In the 160 episodes that I have watched there's only been two good guys that have died. The one guy that had the straw in his mouth that did the chuunin exam and the fourth.
Anyways, there's my two cents.

June 9th, 2006, 10:02 PM
You make it sound like it's my fault Naruto does a better job at working up emotions. Tell me one part in the Fullmetal Alchemist anime where a so-called tear worthy moment didn't involve someone dying. The fact of the matter is there are other series that do it better and they don’t have to resort to people dying left and right to do so. I will tell you right now I could watch the episode of One Piece when Luffy and Usop have there fight and have to holdback the tears because that fight meant something but, when you push some town in my face that isn’t relevant to anything and have everyone die it’s supposed to be better because...people DIE!!! I’m sorry if the only way you can get people to feel sad is by killing a puppy in every episode you fail. I’M A JERK THAT GETS PLEASURE FROM WATCHING PEOPLE SUFFER DAMN IT AND EVEN I KNOW HOW TO FEEL. That fact that you have a problem with Naruto because it can have a beautiful tear inducing moment without having to kill someone makes me wonder what’s the color of your blood.

Also I didn’t say jerked tears that takes some kind of force like what Fullmetal Alchemist does.

And that my two cents.

Sorry but I'm not a bloodthirsty jerk but I do understand where you're coming from. A character dying isnt' essential for sadness, it's just the way FMA pulls it out. However, the moment I cried the most in FMA was the end and it was because Al didn't remember any of their adventure. That was the saddest part to me.

I've never cried in what I have seen so far, but the first couple of episodes were very depressing. I can't help but feel so sad for Al being stuck in that metal armor. For myself, the scene in which Hughes was waving to Ed after-death and Ed had thought he'd seen something while looking out through the train window was also very evocative and shed more than a few tears. I also found the following scenes similarly moving:

The scene in which Ed and Al were racing back home to their mother after their conversation about the death of Winry's parents.

When Ed and Al were sparring at the waters edge following Ed's recovery from their attempt to bring their mother back to life.

During Al's narration of what he and his brother had been through the moment depicting the start of their journey from home and their home burning in the distance.

The scene in which Winry was trying to tell Ed how she feels near the end of "Her Reason."

When Izumi confronted Ed and Al at the graveyard about what they had attempted.

The moment when Ed realized who/what Wrath was/might be.

The scene in which Scar had sacrificed himself for Al.

The scene in which Ed confronted Tucker in his "laboratory." In particular, the moments when Ed realized what had happened to Nina and his reaction when faced with the possibility that, in part, he had tried to bring his mother back just to show that he could.

All of the final scenes of the very last episode.

This is by no means a comprehensive list, though.

Its hard to make me cry, but i'll say certain things saddened me.

Sewing Life & his daughter
Maes Hughes
Izumi's backstory (although learning all that stuff about the gate made it kinda cool)
Sloth vs FullMetal
FullMetal vs Scar (after Iron Blood got his head blown out)
FullMetal vs greed

If i was a person that cried at sappy/sad movies i'da probally teared up for some of these things. I'll also say that the music is really what saddened me about alot of these. Excellent excellent music in FMA.

Yeah yeah okay we get it, if we have even the slightest capacity to cry then we will have a hard time holding it back during the episodes "The Chimera's Cry" and "Words of Farewell". I wasn't surprised to find myself getting a bit teary-eyed during those episodes. But FMA has surprised me on many other occasions by jerking a tear or two from my reluctant male eyes during scenes that I would consider anything but sad. Has this happened to any of you? Have you ever found yourself getting emotional during unexpected parts of the show?

One example I can recall of an episode that really struck a chord, for me at least, was the episode entitled "Sin". In this episode the homunculus boy destined to become Wrath encounters Ed and Al. I've only seen this episode once so I may be unclear or confused on some of the details but if I remember correctly this is when I first found out what happened to Eward's limbs as it becomes clear that the human arm and leg that Wrath possesses are the very limbs that Ed lost during the failed transmutation of his mother. Wrath recalls seeing the limbs at the threshold of the gate during said transmutation and remembers greedily taking them for himself. He decides that he is going to take the rest of Ed's body in an attempt to become fully human. Al realizes that the only way to return Ed's limbs is for Wrath to die, and he accepts full responsibility for what happened to his brother (Ed did, in fact, sacrifice that arm to give Al some kind of body) and feeling the urge to protect him, decides he will rescue Ed from having to perform a terrible act. He decides that he will do what must be done and charges forward to kill Wrath.

With all of this in mind I tried to imagine how Al must've felt and it became clear to me why he was so determined to kill Wrath. In putting myself in his shoes I felt briefly what Al might have felt, and it was one of those poignant moments that begin with shivers and end in tears. This might not seem very emotionally provocative to most people but I have seen enough of the show to know that this is very uncharacteristic of Al. It seems to me that for Al to decide once and for all to kill anyone, even a homunculus, he must've been feeling overwhelming love toward his brother, guilt for his brother's lost arm, and perhaps anger toward Wrath. Just a small taste of such intense emotion is more than enough to affect me so. You always think that it's the sad moments that are going to overwhelm your emotions. But truthfully, of all human emotions that can be emulated by fiction, sadness moves me least.

Full Metal Alchemist was 1 of 4 anime that ever made me cry (Wolf's Rain, Naruto, and Raxephon being the others) and it made me cry more than any of these other 4, though crying isn't accurate, I didn't like ball, teared up excessivly yes...anyways the obvious Nina incident and Mae's death but to be honest I didn't cry during either of these incidents.

When Marta (in the later episodes) finds out about the Fuhrer and runs to Al and gets in his armor, only to turn around and have Pride quickly slide his sword into Al's armor, having the episode end with Al collapsed, Marta's blood dripping out of him.

When Pride killed his son when Mustang tried so hard to save him.

When the girl with the pink hair (forget her name) was said to have been raped, or heavily implied.

And finally, what jerked my chain the most was when Edward "killed" Sloth and as she dissappeared, for a few seconds she seemed to have become the mother Ed and Al knew, saying something along the lines of "Edward...take care of your little brother, I love you both so very much" and the look on Edwards face when she said that as she vanished, holy man I seriously cried there.

3. nina and all that. esecially when roy talhs with hawkeye and you hear Ed clapping his hands in the background. I started shaking

I wouldn't say that I cried, but Fullmetal can stir the emotions.

So in FMA 2.0:

Last night was where Hughes was killed and sweet baby jesus it was even SADDER than Original Recipe...especially when Roy started to cry!

So...yeah that one.

Yeah it wasn't fair that they showed him in the booth saying he wasn't going to be able to go home.

The scene of Hughes's funeral made me cry and I almost cried at the scene where Ed and Al figured out that Tucker turned his dog and daughter into a chimera and when it was asking Tucker if it hurt when Ed attacked him.

Oh dear.. I cried on so many scenes.. especially in Brotherhood.. v .v My boyfriend was with me and I didn't care if I cried in front of him. I'm a baby when it comes to sad stuff. >.> Luckily he knows this so it was okay. Ha-ha.

Ugh sappy stuff makes me cry so much, I'm so sensitive. =.= But I still enjoyed the anime and and I love it. Even if it made me cray, which in my opinion is what made the story really good..

I teared up when Mustang was about to kill Envy and envy was crying for his life. But soon he kinda deserved and killed himself. What the hel was that for I wondered. Then there was the last episode kinda because they were leaving you forever till the movie.

FMA can really touch you. Got me into teary eye myself by watching FMA. From the start of the story this series is really emotional. Giving up the body of Ed for just a hope of getting their mother back again.
