I've been looking for this boxset for a looong time now and all i've been able to find are some cheap looking bootleg versions(4 disk, no mini disk). I've been searching for a legit copy(4 disk and mini disk) for a little over a year now and as a last resort i'm asking anybody here if they have an extra copy of it or have a copy but never listen to it or has no real interest in owning it anymore.

Like I said this is a last last resort so if anybody can help me PM me so we can work something out(maybe order it through animenations pre-owned system?). Being a huge fan of Yoko Kanno's music(not just on bebop) I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Theres a reason why it's cheap, they deal in bootlegs. :|

So no I don't think I will.

If the Catalog No. is anything other than 'VIZL-64' then it's a bootleg.

Whoah, man... That's just really tough luck for you!... I just looked at cd-japan and their's is unavailable too... Too bad, cuz you're missing some really great tracks that weren't available in the other OSTs... Plus, the alternate version of "Digging My Potato" was better in the CD set...

I wasn't aware that it came with a mini-disc. Mine didn't- and yes, I bought it from a legit Brick and Mortar store. What's on this mini-disc?

I'm afraid you may have bought a bootleg then, the store could have sold it not knowing it was fake. Either that or it was second hand and the mini disk was lost.

Mini disk tracks
# Track 01: Sasurai no Cowboy (Cowboy Bebop Theme) (sung by Ed)
# Track 02: Miwaku no Horse Riding (sung by Andy)
# Track 03: Sasurai no Cowboy (Cowboy Bebop Theme)(Sung by Ein)

The set was released by Victor Entertainment and only them and every legit version of the set has the mini disk. Some bootleg copies have the mini disk tracks stuck on the end of disk 4. Basically if you see this set for $15-30, it's a BOOTLEG. I found out the hard way.

Living in the UK it's even harder to get hold of anything decent anime related so again I would appreciate anybodys help.

EDIT: A pic of what the real set looks like.

I love the version of Tank! performed by Ed, it's cute and catchy :)

As far as the boxset goes. I believe it's OOP, so good luck finding it. It IS available to download though, in fact, a rip of it was just released this past week (available via BT and IRC).

That boxset was only produced for one year only. After that they stopped making them. I got lucky and got mine legit from CD japan right before the end of the year.

Mine looks similar, but came in a quad box (i.e. a true square, not the rectangle you see). All 4 cds are different colors. Also came with the booklet (which is entirely in Japanese). Was there perhaps a Japan release different than the one you describe? Mine was from a B&M which specializes in such things (and I might add the price was closer to $70).

I'll now have to check around as I detest bootlegs.

I too have hunted high and low for the real set. It's hard to find. You might want to check out Yahoo Auctions JP, that's the only place I've found any legit ones. However you might want a deputy service if you don't speak Japanese/don't live in Japan (see the R2/R3 discussion thread in the DVD forum). And expect to pay over $200. Maybe over $250 these days. Yes it's expensive, but that's what you get for paying for the real thing.

And Telgar, sorry to tell you, but you have a bootleg. I own the same thing, bought when I was still ignorant to CD bootlegs....

I gave up on finding the real set. Yes Bebop is quite possibly my favorite series... but I can't justify spending over $50 a CD for the music. Spending that much for the R2s is one thing, but for a CD? No thanks. And I am very much against bootlegs. I may hunt down a set if it's moderately priced when I go to Japan in a few weeks.

I remember after the set was out of print in japan, i saw a amazon.jp set that claimed it was the overseas version. As I already recieved mine, I put it out of my mind, but i found it odd that their could be an overseas version of a supposed limited edition cd set.

Just so I'm clear, the version released in the U.S. and the version released in Japan are identical?

MacrossV

That's just it, I really don't know. I wasn;t sure of amazon.jp was selling a bootleg or what. I always thought it was a bootleg. Any 5/4 disk set claiming to be the Limited Edition Cowboy Bebop set sold in the United States is probably a bootleg.

That is most definetely a bootleg. When did you get it? I'd try and get some of that $70 back.

There is only one version of the set, there is no special version for other countries. Just the Japan version. The copies that claim to US import copies are fake.

Unfortunately I got it several years ago- I believe in either 2000 or 2001, right when the legit version came out. Bought it from a reputable import shop. Best looking bootleg I've ever seen. Booklet, cds, even the jacket look incredibly professional. And the price wasn't your typical bootleg price either. Never even occurred to me it might not be legit.

Ah well. Nothing I can do about it now, and I'm certainly not going to throw the set away. Bebop and a few tracks from His and Her Circumstances are the most played songs on my iPod.

I just got lucky and managed to a legit copy for ¥9800(about £50). Ahhhh I can rest now. ¦D

I can start off that list. Son May, Miya Records, Ever Anime and FX. Thats all the ones i'm aware of anyway. Anything other than Victor Entertainment is a bootleg.

I went to the local Hastings today to buy a DS game.
As I was standing in line, I was glancing over the stuff they had piled up in the clearance rack next to the line. Something cought my eye.
It was the vizl-64 cowboy bebop box set that said -'used promotion' for $4.99.
At the time I didn't know whether it was a bootleg or not (I never even knew there was a box set)
It rang up at $2.99.
I took it home and realized it was still in it's original shrink wrap and everything.
And now after looking online, I'm 99.99% sure it's not a bootleg.

What are the odds of finding this set for $3 unused anyway?

Of all the tracks I'm listened to thus far.
Ed's version is Tank! is my favorite!

What's all this talk about bootleg CDs? According to you guys, mine is a "bootleg." But I don't care, 'cause it comes with the freakin' songs anyway. :uhh: And for any tracks that aren't on there, I go to a website for. Sheesh.

I got the box set...comes with a booklet (mostly in Japanese) with pictures of Spike's Jericho pistols on the covers, and 4 discs (the fourth one has live versions of songs and the actual make of ASK DNA and others).

I hate to necro a thread like this, but is there anyone that knows the difference between the version released by JVC/Victor (http://www.amazon.com/Cowboy-Bebop-CD-Box-Limited/dp/B000065EFX) and the one released by Pioneer/Geneon (http://www.amazon.com/Cowboy-Bebop-Box-Yoko-Kanno/dp/B00006JJ4L/)?

(Note, that all the copies available in the marketplace that are reasonably priced are almost assuredly bootlegs.)

The Pioneer/Geneon one is a US release, the JVC/Victor one is a Japanese release.

I don't know if there are any differences beyond that. Probably all the writing in the big booklet is in English in the US release....

Good day everybody,

I'm new here, this is my first post. I have been dying to get myself "Cowboy Bebop Boxed Set" for somtime now. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowboy_Bebop_Boxed_Set_(album)

I know I have really tiny chance to get myself an original copy of it. I have manage to find one in amazon.com. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000065EFX/ref=ord_cart_shr?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=AHDFJL1JDBOSJ&v=glance

I'm just not really sure is this NOT the fake/bootleg version. If anyone out there could help me out varify it.

Millions, millions of thanks in advance :)

Cheers.

It's a 3rd-party seller, it's very very cheap, and some of the reviews with low stars on that page (on the right-hand side) say they got a bootleg. Bad luck, I don't think you found a genuine copy.

The real box set is much longer, not ordinary CD shaped. You might have better luck on Yahoo Auctions Japan (http://page6.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f67068741), but expect to pay A LOT for it.

wow, thanks alot tenshi_a. I actually sent you a PM. Sorry for the duplicated request.

Thanks again, it helps. Yeah, I wasn't so convinced of the product available, thus I have not made up my mind proceeding with the payment.

Guess my luck for it will be really really little.

Thanks for the info.

Cheers
