As most of know the DVD release has a new track with all diffrent soundeffects & music. Music is changed around & IMO doesn't feel as good, ethier when there is an action scene or just a calm drama scene.
I made a clip from a VHS rip I have, if you compare it to the new track on DVD you'd notice in that same scene with that wonderful music on the original track there is no music in that scene, its more of an emotional scene with that music. Although some people might like that there is no music where you just hear the rain.
Its a few minutes long, 7 mb:

This might make you consider buying the subbed version on VHS which has the original track. But the subbed VHS is rare & expensive, I'v seen them for like $30 each.
[edit]- I forgot to say that the voices were of course also redone in the new track as well. Which is pretty obvious but just in case someone doesn't know...

$30 isn't expensive, really. It's what they cost when they originally came out stateside, like every other anime VHS used to cost subbed. But I agree that the original music was better.

Yeah when they came out but $30 now for one tape is expensive when you can get the movie boxset on DVD now for around $28

...I wish I'd found the box for $28 before I bought it for the MSRP. :P
I still remember paying a pretty penny for subbed anime, so it just doesn't seem like all that much to me.

The movie trilogy(subbed) at Ama-zon is selling for $95 :j
Movie III is selling for $40.

I actually do like the music in that scene and for what time period Gundam was made i thought it was very appropriate (i noticed that 70's & 80's anime tend to do that). I also luv the ending of it how it just fades out.

Ah.. there's the Mobile Suit Gundam I wanted to see.
I'd seen a little MSG and played some of the games before buying the movie trilogy, but when I bought the movie trilogy.. something seemed missing.
Then, strangely enough, I noticed that the "something" was actually present in the English dub of the series.
I guess it was the music and sound effects.
hmm.. I might get the VHS if I have extra money some day, or perhaps just the dub or one of the laserdisc releases of the whole series or something..

Huh? The Engish dub of the TV series wasn't missing anything. The original music was there, I'm not sure about the sound effects but I'm sure those are the original sound effects for the most part.

Nice clip, the music coming in with the sun glare on the character's faces was really nice. ^_^

I must get into UC Gundam, that clip was indeed nice. That women was quite intresting, IMO, as I expect the rest of MSG to be.
*Looks for money*

Yeah shes a great character, its too bad we don't see a lot of her. In the TV series theres more of her shown though. For example the Newtype Challia Bull episode(which was cut from the movies).
Some of my favorite quotes from her(that arn't spoilers):
"Perhaps someday, people may even control time itself" - Amuro
"Oh, Amuro....I can see time." - Lala Sune
"I felt you touching my mind captain" - Lala Sune
"I want to protect you captain" - Lala Sune
"But all I love about you are your abilities" - Char Aznable
"I don't care. Thats only because your a man. Thats why I keep my integrity as a women." - Lala Sune

That last quote is pricelss probally one of the best things she ever said.

Levon, do these VHS that you just bought have the same voices from the original broadcast of MSG:0079 TV series? I don't mind the dub myself, and I'm glad that the movies are subbed, but it would be nice to hear the original audio track...
I know what's been said, but I find it hard to believe that it's not possible to remaster the original audio somehow. There was a group doing "fansubs" - more bootlegs, really since it's licenced and released on DVD - of the original audio track, but they seem to have dissapeared. Their tracker has no seeds, no peers, and their IRC FServs are all down.

Nope, they are a different voice cast.
P.S. Coming from a sub fan who hardly watches dubs, I think the dub cast for the MSG 0079 TV series really did a good job.

I also find it a little hard to chew that it's impossible for them to remaster the original audio. I'm sure there are bootleg DVDs of the MSG TV series with the Japanese audio intact.

It's the best dub I ever heard. By a long, long way. The next best is nowhere near as bearable as this.

P.S. Levon sent me a real media video file of part of one of the MSG movies dubbed in english. The voice acting sounded awful. It's amazing one of the best dub VAs such as Steve Blum sounds so awful as Char Aznable. -_-; Not to mention all the other voices sound just as bad or worse.

Everyone knows that the MSG R1 DVD's do not have a Japanese language track or subtitles because MSG has not yet had a Japanese DVD release. Bandai isn't going to allow the most popular Gundam series in Japan's release to be spoiled because everyone imported R1 DVD's.

Then what's stopping Japan from releasing Mobile Suit Gundam on DVD if there are obviously ways to get the original Japanese audio intact?

Then what's stopping Japan from releasing Mobile Suit Gundam on DVD if there are obviously ways to get the original Japanese audio intact?Because MSG has the potential to make Bandai a buttload of money. But that's not much of an answer, is it? Truthfully I don't know. I'm still trying to figure out why they didn't release Star Wars on DVD here earlier, so i'm not the person who could answer that question.

I'm gonna have to get a new video card, I need to get WinTV, I used to have it & it work well for this sort of thing. So don't expect them anytime soon.

I made another clip of the scene, but this time I made it 7 mb instead of 12 mb.

I should correct myself, there is some music durring that scene in the new DVD release. I just checked. I think back when I made this thread I had worse speakers & was watching the 5.1 track & just diddn't hear the music since its very low in the back speakers.
Still, its not the same. In the new track some music will play when Amuro watches the swan & then music will stop & doesn't start until Lalah runs away.
Original music from the scene is better because they play that song just right & its a great song.

And at this time, I now have the three subtitled VHS. =P
Personally, I loved the way it did the music better(and the older voice acting from those both alive and now dead by the time of the re-recording =<), the only part I wasn't really "used" to was "Encounters" being an insert song instead of a ED on the DVD.
