Just looking around and came across A.I. Love You. Being a fan of the love hina manga I thought I might like this. Can any who likes love hina give me an Idea if it might be my cup of tea ? Thanks ^_^

P.S, The girl on the cover looks like a Mutsumi/Naru Hybrid, and boy keitaro sure is tan.... :P

I've collected all eight. It's an alright title, which thankfully enough, is relatively short.

It's a rather enjoyable manga, but don't go into it expecting first-class animation or a flawless storyline. Don't get me wrong, I really liked it, but from what I've seen on the boards from time to time, sometimes people get a bit disappointed with it, expecting another Love Hina when the truth is it was Ken Akamatsu's first series. Take into account that Akamatsu started this series some four or five years before Love Hina, and keep in mind the art does progressively get better throughout the books, and it'll be a great read.

I'm going to be the voice of dissent here and say that I didn't like it. To me, it was just very... mediocre. The art is average, story average (and somewhat unoriginal, more on that later), and characters average. However, it was Akamatsu-sensei's first manga, so it's to be expected that it would be quite up to the level of his later work. This is one title that just didn't do it for me though. As for the originality of this title, it seems to be heavily borrowed from Video Girl Ai and (to a lesser extent) Ah! My Goddess. I'd recommend reading these two manga first, and if you really love that type of plot, then go for it.

I agree with Shibari. It was an okay manga but not great. I enjoyed Love Hina, Kare Kano, and even Ai Yori Aoshi a lot more. The artwork does get progressively better. Never read Video Girl A.I., but I'd have to say Ah My Goddess is better.

However, you really should judge this on its merits, not compare it to Love Hina just because it's the same author. It's also a little more crude and sexually explicit than Love Hina, causing it to lack some of L.H.'s "sweetness" factor.

In a nutshell, it's worth a read, but I wouldn't pay full-price to collect it.

AI ga Tomaranai (A.I. Love You's Japanese title; roughly translated as "Can't Stop Love" or something similar) is above average, but not anything spectacular. I'd give it, say, a 6.5 out of 10, whereas I'd rate Love Hina and Negima as nearly perfect 10s.

AgT ran from 1994 to 1997, about a year or so before Love Hina began, and it really gives you a chance to see how Akamatsu's writing and art skills have improved over the years. His writing skills were not as good in this title as it was in Love Hina and Negima. Akamtsu's style of humor is still apparent, though in a noticeably unrefined form. His artwork isn't anywhere as good in the first few volumes of AgT as it was by its last volume or the first volume of LH, and is average at best. Just compare Akamatsu's new AgT artwork—including new cover art, new character design sketches, and a character montage at the beginning of the first volume (all seen in Tokyopop's releases)—which was made around the time of vol 5 or 6 of LH (very late 1999), with the original artwork and you can see a major difference. LH likewise saw much improvement in artwork quality throughout its 3-year run (10/1998 to 10/2001). Like Kosuke Fujishima's art in Ah! My Goddess, you can clearly see Akamatsu's character designs evolve over time, not reaching the level of quality approaching what we see in Negima until a bit past halfway through LH.

Despite not having the quality one would expect from its mangaka,—though to be fair it was his first major manga—AgT is still worth a read, especially if you're a Ken Akamatsu fan. If you don't want to spend the $80 for the whole series, you might want to borrow it from someone (if you happen to know someone who does own it), or if you have the time, just read a couple of chapters while in the bookstore (what I do when browsing for new titles).

I can't do anything but agree at this point. It's realy easy to see the progression of his skill from A.I - LH -Negima. It's good but not great. Alot of the story seems to go nowhere untill the last few chapters and the bizzare plot point that starts it all off isn't explained untill the last volume. Hitoshi is alot more perverted the Keitaro but gets hit alot less. The art starts fairly poor but graduly gets better. That said it is unmistakably Akamatsu hilarious, sweet and sad by turns. You'll be guesing on how it'll end untill the last few pages.
