This is the place to talk about Guild Wars.

This is the first game of its kind I've played (Other than Ragnarok Online) and I love it.

Im and Elementalist/Mesmer and I wanted to know if I should keep using the Starter Elementalist Rod (Im Level 3) Or if I should switch weapons? It does 3-4 damage, and I ahve weapons which do more but the rod say plus 20% damagae, and I dont know what that means, so I havent chaneg my main weapon. Can soemoen help me with that.

Anyway,anyone else play this game?

Change your weapon. Sometimes enemies will drop weapons. If there is a nice staff or something with higher numbers then equip that instead. Go back to Ascalon and talk to the NPC with "Weapons" next to his name. That way, you can get it customized to do more damage.

If the item is colored then definetly equip it or go with what Malon said and equip it with a higher number.

I have E/Me and R/Mo. Both of them are rpg characters and I really need to find Frozen Soil so I can use it in the Hall of Heros battles.

There is an free expansion coming out later this summer that will allow us to explore 2 new areas.

You know I might play Guild Wars once I upgraded my PC again. Yes I made a topic about me not playing online RPG games again, but I changed my mind. Long story short, the reason why I might start guild wars is because its more new and the game series just started not long ago, so I can get right into it. Plus it doesn't have any Online fees.

It says +20% dmg due to the fact that it is already customized. (it can only be used by you) I would suggest you go to Tydus after you reach aroud level 7, it puts you in good position to improve the "actual" game. Also, another good idea is to get Ventrilo when you're ready for PvP but that's a loooooong way from where you are...

Or you can get Team Speak.

I suggest that you customize the weapon only if your going to use that type of class since it can only be used by that character. Because if you get a better one, you would probably want to sell your old one but you can't because you already customized it.

I heard levels weren't a big factor in this game and that you have to use strategy instead. Which is cool. In FFXI I had to level up for 50 hours until I was strong enough to do a few missions and quests *Yes I suck at leveling up in FFXI*. Also I heard in Guild Wars you level up really fast, but the side effect is that levels don't really count that much, but skill. I ordered Guild Wars along with 2 sticks of Ram, which should be coming this week on July 7 *hopefully earlier*.

The fun thing about GW is the pvp matches, guild vs. guild matches, and Hall of Heros matches. You have to make a plan before going in for gvg and HoH. Plus they make updates and resetting the ladder after every season or something like that.

its more so like a true mmorpg but it has a bit of diablo2 flaver to it i think im not sure but i think there is a maximum cher lvl but other then that its all skills but what makes it really cool is the fact that you dont have to stick with abilities for instance you can change like u could put all your skill points in air magic and if you need to switch later it lets you at no penalty but to answer you question it feels more like a true mmorpg

No, you don't make games like in D2. When you go into town, your like in one big server, or something like that, where your with everyone. When you leave the town you automatically play in one server, I guess if you want to call it that.

The game is fun and definetly the guild battles and Hall of Heros when your trying to win the favor for America or other country. Beware of Korea, you will loose if your not organized against them.

This game isn't true mmorpg since you don't adventure in a single connected world. You campaign with up to 8 in a party on custom instances of the world. The only places this doesnt happen is in towns, whch are standard mmorpg affair.

Best thing about this game is the fighting system. I cant even play WoW anymore because it bores me so much compared to GW. Not to mention GW's art style is absolutely great and the mob AI is fun to plan against.

I'm guessing your at Druid's Overlook right? If you are then do one of the quests and it'll take you to The Wilds where the next mission is.

You can solo doing quests and get henchmens to help you out. As for missions, you would want to party up with other people because if you don't know the bonus or how to do the mission then you can just follow them. For PvP, you must be in a party. That's a no brainer. Only 3 arenas are random picks so you don't have to choose but at the Team Arena and the Tombs you must get people so you can pvp.

I have a question, can I join with another member and combine henchmen together like for example me and a friend, can we have henchmen and make our party huge? Or is there limits to that? Like for example 2 real player with each of us having Henchmen?

There is hardly a waiting period during mission towns. Well not untill you get far in the game like, the crystal desert, where Monks are harder to come by, but still waiting isnt terribly long.

You can solo through most of it. I do; even many main missions. And yes, you can combine real people with henchmen. But there are limits as to how many people can be in one group. In the noob area you can only play with another person. In the beginning after that you can group 4 people. Then later in the game 6 and then later 8. I consider GW to be a solid purchase.
Here are my ups and downs:
+Great, scalable graphics engine. My laptop sucks and it runs well.
+Stratey and tactics are more important than just leveling up. The level cap is fairly low so the gap isn't so big between new and old players.
+Quest oriented gameplay. Not everything is just kill, kill, kill!
+No monthly fee.
-Bizarre economy. UNorganized and you never really know how much to sell any given item for. It's a big guessing game.
-Limited customization when you start. You have to earn items and give them to a NPC to gain your choice of armor. When you begin, everyone looks the same.

I tried out Guild Wars and its great. Its the fastest online RPG I ever played. And I got right into a mission and beaten a few of them already and I'm at level 3 status already. Plus I got 2 skills already. This game seems to me much more faster pace then FFXI *sorry but it feels that way...Fears of being flamed to death*...

You know when its a mission, there is a button in your party list that says "Enter Missions" places that have missions are commonly called "Mission Towns" and missions contain cutscenes and move the storyline.

I have a question and It may sound stupid.

Im an Elementalist/Mesmer in the game, and I use Fire magic. Would it make a difference if I took all my attribute points from Water. Air, and Earth magic, and added them to Fire? Do they in any way increase my stats even if I use only Fire magic?

You're better off using a wider range of attacks because some people might be immune to fire attacks, then what happens..

No, water, air, and earth wont effect your fire attacks, if you want to go all fire, dump it all in fire and energy.

And as long as you have a ranger with winter in your party, you dont need to worry about people immune to fire dmg. counter their counters!

If your an Ele then your better off using one type of attacks. Being a combo of the four won't do any good.

I have another question. Im level 10. As I said Im and Elementalist/Mesmer. Should I keep my fire wand/staff (I dont know which oen it is) or switch to another weapon. My current weapons stats are

Also what about armour?

Switch. Now. And armor can be crafted by NPCs in big cities like Ascalon. You have to give them certain materials and money in exchange for the armor you want.

5) lastly....what class do you think is all 4 of the above questions??

Ahh I never got Ignite for some reason. I've been using Kindle Arrows. It's a little better for my character. (like +2 more than Ignite, barely any diff) I'll pm you in game to give you crap. I have a few bows so it'll depend on your marks level.


And I love fighting those huge bone dragons. The area they're in is all surrounded with butterflys and a random cabin that you can't enter. I was like WTH?


And your Qs anime____4ever. Monks are easily the most wanted person for big missions. Sometimes monks will sell their services if there's a massive drought. And people will pay. Most fun? Difficult to answer. I love all the options I get as a R/E, but rangers/necs/mesmers can have a tough time getting into missions with groups. It's not like it's impossible, but you might have to try a little harder than a monk or warrior who will get picked right away. And I wouldn't recommend Mesmer as a primary class for a new player. It's seen as one of the more difficult(most?) classes to master in the game. Stick to mesmer as a secondary if it's your first character.

Searing is what happens when you leave the beginners area. I think you talk to Sir Tydus(sp?) in Ascalon and then you leave that world forever. The Char invade and the sky in Ascalon City turns from pleasent blue to dark red. Then you have seared. After that you have access to dye traders and storage etc. Anyway, any fire staff/wand with more damage would be fine. 3-4 is really low for a lvl10.

(A wand is one handed and a staff uses both hands btw)

None are all four. I guess elementalist apply to all of them a little bit.

1. Purely opinion. I don't have a personal opinion. I think they are all fun. But many don't like healing with a monk....

2.A monk is very desirable. You get offers all the times to join parties. Also you need to be a monk or part monk to farm.

3. If you want to tear up PvP make a mesmer.

4. Warrior I guess for PvE since they can solo most of the times.


Keep in mind that all classes are balanced so you can't go wrong with any. However most people want monks. If they don't want a monk they want a warrior. If they don't want either of those they'll want an elementalist. Rangers and necromancers have a harder time during most missions but they can still get into a group pretty fast at Temple of Ages.

Mesmers can join groups fast in PvP but in PvE it's a different story....

1) All classes are fun to play.
2) Healing monks are easy to get in groups but if you do 8v8 pvp then you can be either healing or prot.
3) There really is no "best" pvp class. It all depends what you like and what your good at. Even though necros and rangers are hard to get in groups you can still be in Ranger teams or hopefully someone wants a necro for there smiting team.
4) I think the best PvE class is a fire elementists. This is what people also look for in PvE.
5) None.

I think you would like it. Yes it will work with 56k. There's going to be a free summer update later this month that's featuring 2 new areas for us to explore and also expansions would be coming out about every 6 months or so and those will probably cost $20-$30.

You can either buy them from people just by saying your looking for a good one, farm them, or go to the collectors.

1) Its free (other than buying the actual game)
2) There are districts so that there wont be two many people in one area at once, thus slowing the game down. You can choose what ever district you want. Also helps if your meeting up with someone. You don't join game like as in a server where theres a list. You choose a mission or quest from talking to different people and can go on it with a party.

No cost beyond buying the game. Cities/Outposts are the only places people can gather in large numbers. In gaming areas, a spawned area is dedicated to you and your party only.

Really? Are you sure, because now that I realize that the damage on each weapon varies and that it's not one specific damaga for each weapon, I can always look around now.

The photobucket shrinking the images thing use to always happen to me, then I used I think Imageshack and it makes the images into thumbnails and they're bigger.

Yeah, you'll end up getting so many random weapons from quests that you'll never need. Anyway, I may be able to get ppl decent weapons if they whisper me IG.(depends on what I've been getting) I just ascended and would like to get into the UW or Fow, but you can't take henchies and getting together an 8 person group is tough in a small guild.

At first I was offered a max damage fire wand for at least 1000. Then that person said theyll be back in a second (never came back). Then I found another person and I got it for about 840 gold. Its blue and max damage (11-22) plus it has a 20& chance of skill recharge.

Now I need to get money to get a salvage kit then get some items for armour. Someone told me I still have pre searing armour (except my flames eye and boots)

Where do people find these, especially the ones with all the effects (the gold and purple ones)? Do they find them in missions that are towards the end or what?

The weapon you just mentioned can be found by collectors in high level areas.

It depends where you get the rare items.. You can get good ones from high level monsters by killing them yourself.

1k for a maxdam weapon is reasonable. Of course you'll see a lot more or less depending on how desperate they are and the stats on the weapon. I sold an axe for 10k last week. The farther you are in the game, the better the drops. And Underworld/Fissure of Woe drops are supposedly great, but I haven't been yet.

Definetly need to do something about your armor if you still have presearing. I got mine first at Ascalon, then uprgraded at Lions, then got different peices of my armor from collectors, and finally upgraded at Forge. I've gotten to the Grotto(where armor is 15k a piece) but it only looks different than forge armor. Same stats, just different cosmetics. So I'm sticking with Forge.

Skill Trainers in certain cities. Buying a new skill costs you some gold and 1 skill point.

That's an area outside a city, right? *never remembers explorable area names...ever* If so, the only skill trainer that comes to mind outside of a city/outpost is a man in the ascalon settlement area(area way above Seaboard). There could be others that I don't remember though. XD What are you looking for?

Do the quest that takes you to Serenity Temple, there is a elementalist there, and she probably gives skills for quest reward. Also there is a hermit in the caves in the Ruins of Ascalon, head north westish from the Sanitarium.

Only use skill trainers if you can't find the skills they have anywhere else. Most skills you can find by doing all the quests in the area. I believe that quest Neo0tak0n is talking about is called Shalev's Task. You have to bring him a fiery unguent from a char near piken square if I'm remembering correctly.


edit: I say only use skill trainer if you can't find them through quests just because they get more expensive each time you buy one. Not too much, but its still something to consider.

If your still around the Ascalon area then the only skill trainers you will find is in Ascalon and Grendich Courthouse. I recommend you do all the quests first and then buy the skills that you don't have.

Once you can get to Lions Arch, you can buy a Capture sig from the skill trainer. Each boss have different elites and are at different parts of the map. You have to kill the boss first and then use the sig in order to capture the elite skills. Each boss will have a different color aura on them indicating which profession it has. There are no "secret" skills, only elite skills. They might be adding more skills in the next chapter but for now I just want them to release the summer update.

Duke's Daughter and Angel's Ashes? I finished those both in one day, I just waited for people to gather a PT in Piken or the Court. :) Just make sure 1 person in your group has done it before. You may die a few times doing 'Ashes', but the respawn point is RIGHT by the altar, so it's not too bad.

Tranquil Tiger. Pure healing monk. Though when I PvP I put defensive earth spells so I am not killed so quickly. When I farm I use defensive water magic.
Furthest location is Thunderhead Keep.

Stormy Rainblade. Warrior specializing in axes and beast mastery. She fights alongside her bear, Viktor.
Furthest location is Aurora Glade.

You go to 3 mission towns. Elonas Reach, Thristly River, and Dunes of Despair. After doing all the missions you come back to Augory Rock. Then you go talk to the priest and say yes. Once you go in, keep going straight until you see 3 symbols. Step on all 3 and then you'll fight your mirror self.

Yes. Before you enter the area through the ghost guy in Augury Rock, equip crappy skills. Other classes have other tactics, though. ^^ It just happens that the Ranger clone likes to cast the rituals you equip, which are useless to him :D

I`ve been playing a lot of PVP this weekend because of the PVP Extreme Weekend.I got 4000 factions points and each time I would reach 1000, 2000, 3000 etc, it would say go to balthazar for your prize. I did and I got nothing also there were no good skill I could buy .Just Elementalsit Superior Energy storage but that took away 75 health.. There are no goos runes to buy and all the weapons are warrior ones (my PVP character and RPG character are Ele/Mes). I need help with ideas of what to get and where to get it.

If you want to have a runner take you to Forge or Grotto then you can find them at Beacon's Perch but it's going to cost you couple thousand gold and make sure you don't give them the money first if you decide to do it.

Believe me I had the exact same problem (look at the early pages of the thread). I finally found someone selling one, thats max damage with 20% chance fast casting. Requires level 8 or 9 Fire. I want a better one now, more effects. Im gonna start looking soon

Why did you pay someone to join your guild? I don't mean anything against you but that's just a stupid way to have someone join your guild. You can't report him for doing that because it was your own fault and basically you scammed yourself, or something like that.

You can report runners if they did certain things, which I forgot, but it was in last week or two interviews.

The underworld is impossibly hard. I have 3 lvl 20 (max) characters that are all ascended. All of them have died in there. It is ridiculusely hard unless u have an amazing party of super-experienced players. It costs 1000g ( 1 platinum piece) to get in as well. As far as i could see all the enemies when i entered were ghosts, but as i only lasted about 20 secs i didnt see all that much!

Since the update, they added the invisible monsters so people would stop soloing. If your looking to get XP for you character so you can get skill points then I recommend Sorrow Furnace because the quests are easier to do and farming is pretty good to.

I'm a Trapper Ranger, so I have a lot of fun in the underworld. :D Usually hop into a party of 4 or 5, then we just lure enemies over traps/spirits we had set up. BAM. Dead.

i reached level 17 today, but i'm so angry that i missed one guy in the bonus for Divinity Coast... i replayed it with henchies for half an hour but i left one guy behind... dammit

plus i have all these cool mods for weapons that i'll probably end up selling.. usually i try to give them away to new players, but that usually doesn't work out too well

What is the POINT of buying platinum, seriously. There is nothing in the game that you desperately need enough to spend real money. I'm fine without fissure armor, and have received plenty of end-game bows from the UW and Sorrow's Furnace bosses.

Don't use a sword for an elementalist, because your a lot safer and will do so much better if you fight from a distance (ie: wand+ artifact, staff) and use skills. Thats what I do.

That's the problem I see in what you described. If your an Ele then you should be using wands or staff unless your a E/W, because you'll have sword skills. If you like using swords or doing melee action then I recommend making a warrior.

I was playing not long ago and a guy asked Ill give 6 dyes to the first person who can answer this question. What is the speed velocity of a unladled humming bird? At first I thought eh meant whoever can type this to me first so I did, and he said you need to answer the questin. I minimized Guild Wars and typed it into google and it came up with soemthign from monty python saying first you need to know if its an Afrcan or European bird. So I asked the guy and he said you got it right! I was surprised and he actually gave me 6 dyes (red, orange, yellow, green and 2 silver I think) and i asked why are u giving them away and he said my inventory was full and needed to make room ad who better to give it to than a Monty Python fan (Ive never seen the films but I know about them.) I said thank you so much. They enevr usually give you anythign for things like that so I was so surprised :)

thats what i usually try to do first. i try to give away things i've salvaged and don't need. like bow strings and staff handles. they aren't worth that much, and with the new upgrade, these things are usually much easier to come by. i try to give them away to new characters, so i usually go to Pikens or Ascalon City.

Bought no. I had a little bussiness with my clan selling certain items. We got investors in the game to give us about 50k and we would tripple it within a week and give them back 100k while we kept 50k. We did that until we had enough money to fund ourselves entirely. I hit 1000k I didnt suddenly obtain 1000k. I would never pay for game money. I looked just for the sake of this thread and it costs about 120.00$ to get 1000k Im not crazy!

Monty Python's old time TV Show was much much better than most of the films produced by Monty Python. John Cleese had Faulty Towers which was also very good IMHO.

The closest is Aurora Glade mission town. There's a quest that leads to that place. You can look up towns and see where there are by going to this site.

Every time I play guild wars i keeping a pop-up window saying "Not enough memory" I am using a computer with a 2g celeron, 512mb RAM, and a 128mb Nivida FX 550. Could it be my video card? Do I need a 256mb?

Do you have any other programs or windows open? If you do make sure to close them. That may be the problem. I often get this problem while using TeamSpeak and someone I suggested that I upgrade my video driver I think. Maybe you should do that.

You just minimize GW and then open up TS and connect to the server that they give you. After doing that you just minimize that and start pvping.

I don't think you can make white dye, yet. But the only suggestion I can give you is go to GuildWarsGuru forums and ask, and that's where you will get lots of results.

Sorrows Furnace is good for money making, as you can get some shiny stuff there to sell.

Personally I'd get all the same type, looks nicer.

Fissure for sure, I have the money for the 15k armour pieces but the Ectoplasm kills me. My friend got his Ecto when the market Crashed and restarted so his Armour was relatively cheap
about 200k

Depends on whom you learned the art of the arcane from. Most elder wizards prefer the staff because it is a dependable and strong weapon that represents the stoic of their magical skill. Wands are used by young sorcerers who carelessly throw magic about as if to impress the opposite sex during Magic School festivals.
