Recently I have experince alot of ditchers. People who join you on a mission just so they can get good weapons then they leave right in the middle of a mission.

I honestly think that people that rely on runners are seriously lacking in skill. However, there are exceptions: when one is entirely unable to create a party. However, I warn people getting runners: try to make sure the runner is reliable and he is not ripping you off. I saw one guy offering to run from Iron Mines of Moladune to Copperhammer for 2500. That was a complete rip-off considering that you could make the run yourself with henchmen easily provided you knew what you were doing. A run to Copperhammer should not exceed 500.

Ditchers are the most annoying thing in the game to me right now. People kept ditching in the Dragon's Lair quest after capping, and I managed to beat the mission... with two others. Granted, we did not kill Glint...

It is much better if you do quests with your guild in that you should have a party always. However, there are crappy/scammy guilds to worry about along with being cheap i.e. having your guildmates run you through missions.

well, i've been blessed by the GW gods to have never gotten into a bad pug before. all my pugs usually work together, use strategy, and finish together. even when its bonus only, if theres a guy who needs to finish the mission, we usually finish it with him

My monk is at THK right now but haven't had much time to play him and probably won't this week but I'll give you a tip and see if it works with henches. Getting there will be easy if you know what targets to kill first and etc. Once you get to the base/fort, DO NOT attack the little mob where the boss is. First, you kill the mobs that are near the catapults, after killing them, you then lure the little boss mob in and kill em 1 by 1 if you can. Always stay around the king. Go to the catapults and shoot them off whenever you can and hopefully you'll kill something. If they are coming in, just stay by the king and let them come to you and then kill them. Just keep doing this and you should be able to complete it. I recommend bring a human monk so the King will be healed.

Some tips if you want to be runned. Always go with "running for tips" runner. You can give them any amount of gold when you get to your destination, some might have a minimum. I did this with my 3rd PvE charcter, I'm tired of walking there with henches. I payed the guy 500 gold to each destination in the desert and the same amount to the Elona runner.

Whats the longest that you played Guild Wars in one sitting?
I think the longest for me was 18 hours straight. I just took breaks to go to the bathroom and and ate at the outposts. Now I just play long enough to complete a missoin or 2.

probably 4 or 5 hours during the summer. i just ran around every area in post sear ascalon then stopped at the first stop in the shiverpeaks.. forgot the name. it was quite interesting, cause everything was so low level.. i did it with my e/me20 before they nerfed aoe

^^ thats because the a large portion of the people who are level 20 are people who got guildies to run them through everything, buy them the best armor, and don't know how to play the game the way its meant to be played.

guild wars is made so that to do the harder parts of the game, ie sorrows furnace, underworld or fow, you need a party to do it.

I wouldn't count on anything but "uber" guilds doing that.

I'm surprised that I didn't include a reason in my last post. Guild Wars is all instanced. It's either you group with people or group with NPC party members with bad AI. People don't have to go to instances in WoW, which helps keep people away who will get your party annihilated.

On top of that WoW servers at the most have about 20,000 people but most of them have less than that and some a lot less than that. On Guild Wars there are a million people running around and so it makes it even more likely that you'll run into someone.

And that is why.

Have you tried the tip that I wrote earlier? I did it earlier today the same way and it was easy. I was a monk so calling the target and healing at the same time was pretty hard but I got through it.

How soloable is this game, and how is the PvP?
You can't solo this game, the only solo portion is farming. Other than that, you need henchmen or other players to help with missions and quests.

For pvp, it's really hard now to get into groups for Hall of Heroes, with all the rank and stuff. I recommend finding a guild if you want to do pvp. It'll be easier. Other than that, pvp is really fun except when you gvg for about 30+ mins for one fight. I get tired whenever I fight for that long for some reason.

I have about 815 hours in this game, an estimate of about 80 hours per month. I usually come on everyday to help out or pvp for a bit.

hehe.. i just soloed my lvl 9 monk from old ascalon to the courthouse.. my god, it was interesting... so many gargoyles and charr... basically mending + healing breeze + the here and there executioner's strike..

Awhile back I saw a warrior at level 14 in pre Ascalon. Since then I tried to reach it also but the highest I got was at level 9. I don't how that person did it but he/she did.

OK I think I made a "wrong turn" somewhere. I was first trying to ascend and did the first mission(Dunes of Depair). But then I saw that I forgot a mission called Thunderhead Keep, so I went back to do it. So one mission led to another and now i find myself in the Hell's Precipice mission. Do I keep going or go back and ascend first?

What the heck? How did you go from Dunes to THK?

To ascend, go back to the desert and do Elona and Thristy River missions. Those are the only 2 left if you haven't already done them. THK leads you to the fire islands, as you have done. Since you got to THK w/o ascending, guess you got runned to Droknar, you could just finish the game and go back and ascend later. Althought I'm not 100% sure about that since I haven't done that before.

Man the mirror match is hard. I am getting beat downed in like 15 sec. Any tips for E/Me to beat is mirror image?

Hmmm....I forgot how I did it with my E/Me. I don't have time to try it out but try maxing your fire attributes. Bring Inferno, Flame Burst, and Pheonix. For the rest just bring enchants, even if you don't need it, except for Aura of Restoration. Of course you need fire attunement and try to bring Illusion of Weakness and put some points in Illusion so it will at least take out 100hp. I never tried it with IoW but it could work. He should start casting enchants and while he's doing that go up to him and use the 3 attacks that I said in order, and keep spamming them when you can. If this doesn't work then I'll get back to you tomorrow if you still can't beat it.

If that doesn't work then use your mesmer skills. Max out Domination and bring, Backfire, Empathy, and Wastrel's worry. Also bring some other skills like flare, stone daggers, or something like that so it doesn't do too much damage to you. Once you start, cast Backfire then Empathy and then keep spamming Wastrel's Worry. Since you have the other skills that you don't need. He might keep spamming them or keep attacking you with his bow. Either way he hurts himself. Just hope he spams spells so you can get the bonus too. Don't forget, if he casts Backfire on you then just don't cast anything until Backfire is over.

Well for my E/Me I equipped myself with all the useless air and earth spells that I could find. I put all my points into fire and used Fire Attunement right before I started the match. Then I hit him with Meteor shower, FireBall, Fire Storm, and Flame Burst. That made short work of the doppleganger.
Currently I am in Hell's Precipice trying to find a group.
Quick question, am I near the end of the game yet?

No it's not beat it with another class! until the Guild Wars: FActions come out. its actually quite fun use a class you dont ever use basically and it remakes the whole game like *cough* necro *cough* monk *cough* monk is good if you like blood magic

Actually, you still have the Titan Quests left. Go to Droknar's Forge, go to the Statue of Glint (directly ahead of the storage), kneel in the circle, and the Vision of Glint will appear. Then, talk to Glint, you'll get your first Titan quest: "Defend Droknar's Forge." After you beat that, go back, you'll get another Titan quest. After you beat that, go back to Glint, and... So on and so forth until you beat all the Titan quests.

Also, there's PvP to get into, along with UW, FoW, Tombs, maxing out...

At Dragon's Lair, there is an exit called "Tomb of the Primeval Kings." Go through it, and you'll end up there.

Ya, it's a lot but if you want to "complete" the game, then get FoW armor. It's hard but not many have it. Besides, shards and ectos got cheaper.

Anyway, yes FoW armor is very expensive but in my opinion, WELL WORTH IT! It looks seriously cool and I highly suggest investing in it as soon as possible.

Spend a good amount of time in the Underworld, Fissure of Woe, Tombs, and also Sorrow's Furnace and Grenth's Footprint, but of the latter two, more of Sorrow's Furnace. Tombs is especially good as its free and highly spammable and you should get good drops.

its the mappack for the factions weekend thingy thats coming up soon. and while you're playing, you'll notice that its coming for quite a while.. the whole package is around 400mb...

Well damn, a Guild Wars thread. I just started playing recently after quitting FFXI. I enjoy the game, but I'm a melee guy, and there is only one melee class. You can make 4 characters on one account, and 3 of mine are Warriors.

^LOL. Rangers are consider melee with range, which is my favorite, and if you get Chapter 2, the Assassin will be melee type. You did know you can change secondary profession right? Because you wouldn't need to make 3 with different secondary professions.

Na, I'm right. Go to GW site and they have it on their main page. "Factions will be released on April 28, 2006." Releasing it right after the beta makes no sense at all.

They say that because if you are not sure you want to be monk secondary or mesmer, then don't accept and try it out more, until you decide which one you want to take in.

I got mine at Best Buy but I suggest not pre-ordering, if you want to even call it that there, from them if you want the collector's edition. This is going to be my very last time of pre-ordering anything from them because they don't even hold the game from you and it's first come first serve, which is the most dumbest thing ever when it's called pre-ordering. Call your other game shops. If it doesn't work out then try Amazon. Most people just bought the pre-order box there and pre-ordered the game at a game shop.

Rocker: Primary warrior is an automatically a tanker, if you know how to use it properly. As for assassins, I don't know since I haven't been able to play it in PvE but from PvP, it can't tank well like a warrior can.

I guess I'll ask this here, since there are some of you who seem like seasoned Guild Wars players. The only class I like to play are melee classes, so that leaves me at Warrior. But I seem to be having some trouble losing aggro when in a big multi-monster battle. I played FFXI for 2 years and I know how to be an excellent tank in that game, but Guild Wars doesn't seem to even have any kind of enmity scale that the monsters build for your party members. It seems like they just pick someone at random and attack them.

Basicly my question is, how to I tank properly? I can't seem to steal hate back from any mob that is beating on our Monk. I will take the monster from 100% HP to death and it will never once turn from the Monk to hit me. I don't understand Guild Wars' enmity system.

As in benefit from your secondary profession? Yes, you just need to know how to use the skills, that's all. Most popular tanks are W/Mo, I'm sure you already knew that though. Plus, if you unlock skills from your secondary, it'll be unlock in pvp also.

During one of the skill balance updates, Anet has increased the AI on monsters. That's the reason why they just don't stick to the first person that aggros them. What you have to do is tell your casters and everybody else to stay out of the mosters range, make sure the monsters don't get in there aggro bubble. If the monk did get the monsters in the aggro bubble, then they will start going after him which leads to attacking other casters. Also make sure if an Ele uses an AoE spell, like fire storm, then make sure he/she tells the other people because you will never know which direction the monster will flee.

How many are playing thr pre-order disc? I have a question, if you had the first guild wars already installed on your computer do you need the access key that came with the pre-order disc? I just pop the CD cliked install and started playing.

Also they are no longer takeing pre orders for the limited edition version! :'(

You don't need to install nothing. What you have now is already the Faction version. The only thing the pre-order key gives you is 2 weapons. So when you get the game, all you really need to do is put the key in and that's it.

That gotta suck, no more CE pre-ordering. I just have to wait if Best Buy will get any since they don't hold games for you.

I'm guessing you want to link both accounts. You can do this now with your pre-order key to get the weapons and have to do it again when you get the game. On the login screen press the "Create Account" button, there will be something about the entering a key, check it and press next. After putting your key in, it'll go to a section telling you what special items you got and your finished.

So I decided to upgrade my crappy video card on my desktop PC for the upcoming Guild Wars Factions. My PC is a HP 500w with a built in 64mb card.(I'm tired of using my laptop to play GW already). Anyway, my motherboard only has PCI slots. So taken that into consideration I have narrowed down my choices to 2 cards. ATI 9250 and a Nvidia FX5500 both 128mb. Wich would be better? I really don't what to spend to much money on card, since I plan to buy a newer PC. Any info would help. Thanks

Factions is coming out on the 28th. I really want more RAM, because I only have 256 mb, and it mwould just be nice to see a really good framrate while playing it and it would make Battlefield 2 much more enjoyable. I think I can fit 1 gb of RAM in my comp

Haha well I haven't played it in a long while. The good thing about GuildWars is it's still pretty playable even if you don't have lots of RAM. I beat the RPG portion of that and the PVP's great.

I just upgraded my PC and even though games like Doom 3 and Quake 4 run at 60 frames a second on my PC at high res and with AA on, Guild Wars seems to have alot of choppy lag these days. I remember when I played it with my AGP ATI 9600 card it ran smoothly, but then my AGP ATI card died because it was a used one.

Right now I'm actually using an even more powerful graphics card a Nvidia 6600 AGP card and the speed doesn't seem right on Guild Wars. Even my friend said that Guild Wars feels slower these days and she remembers it being faster and smoother.

I guess that what happens when there is alot of people on the server.

Most wield swords for some reason. Whenever I play a warrior, I perfer the axe because of damage but with a sword, you inflict conditions on the enemy. Just play one of each and decide which fits you. With swords, most always carry Final Thrust because it does double damage when HP < 50%, for axe Executionar Strike.

Depends on what statusses you like axes get in relatively good damage quickly swords do bleeding and such hammers knock people over so using that over and over after they get up can be brutal...

Ya, I did. I got a free shirt too from Best Buy.

I'm not able to play it much due to exams and other busy stuff. But from what I've played, it's fun and gets interesting. When you move to Cantha with your Tyria character, there are a whole bunch of quests. You have to go all over the place, which annoyed me for some reason. The good thing about these quests is that they give you good XP and 1 skill point.

IMO Factions is way harder the the first one. I started a new character and is currenty a lvl 15. But only after 2 missions they have you up agianst swarms of lvl 20 or above monsters when your still a low level character.
You'll see what I mean once you reach the main land.

Go to Lions Arch and talk to a girl npc there. She is by the port, I don't know the name but there should be an exclamation point above her.

For my present, I got a wierd looking thing. It looked like it's a Canthan thing but whatever. It's small and walks around.

Viru is good, but as a W/N, the Disease eventually finds it's way back to you. Weakness gets wasted on a Monk/Elem. I've tried countless W/N builds in the 4v4 and the W/N just doesn't seem to excel in anything that an R/N or N/Me can't already do better.

If establish still needs a W/Mo build, an adapted farming build works great for 4v4 (Getting an 8v8/TeamArena group as a W/Mo is tough, don't bother). This is the one I use:

12+4 Axe Mastery, 8+1 Strength, 10 Healing Prayers
Sundering (20/20) Axe (+15% while Enchanted) of Fortitude (+30)
PvP Shield (req 9 Strength) +45/-2 While Enchanted
Knight's Armor (Body and Legs with Sup Absorpts), Stonefist Gauntlets with Min Strength), Knight's Boots (Sup Vigor)

Penetrating Blow, Executioner's Strike, Eviscerate, Rush, Bull's Strike, Live Vicariously, Vigorous Spirit, Ressurection Signet

Combines great damage output with high armor/damage absorption and fast self-healing. (Mending is 6 health per second, LV/VS is 22 health per second as long as you are always attacking. 11 when Fainthearted, 10 when Blinded. Still faster than Mending by a long shot.)

This is the A/W build I'm running now, it's hilarious against everyone but Boon/Prot Monks. (It can also work W/A, but energy will be a problem) If your target isn't packing a +block/evade stance, they're pretty much dead.

+% while over 50% equipment. Use any combination of equipment that gives you 30~35 energy.
12 Hammer Mastery, 10+1 Deadly Arts, 8 Tactics (W/A should use 12+4 Hammer, 8+1 Tactics, 10+1 Strength, 3 Deadly Arts)

"For Great Justice!" (10) - Adrenal skills charge at 150% speed.
"To the Limit!" (5) - Gives you one strike of Adrenaline for each enemy in the area. (maximum of 4 enemies)
"None Shall Pass!" (10) - Knocks down nearby moving enemies.
Devastating Hammer - Knocks down and causes Weakness.
Iron Palm (5)- Counts as a lead attack. Knocks down if target is suffering from a condition.
Entangling Asp (10)- Must follow a lead attack. Knocks down.
Heavy Blow - Knocks down if target is suffering from Weakness.
Hammer Bash - Uses up all Adrenaline, but knocks down.

Simple idea, but it has to be timed right or you won't have the energy to use Entangling Asp. Be sure to tell your allies to attack your target, because you won't have the damage output to kill a Monk by yourself. FGJ and TTL will give you 6 strikes of adrenaline. None Shall Pass, attack for 7th strike of adrenaline (alternatively, you can wait on NSP until you have Dev Hammer charged, this will also give you a bit more time to charge up Entangling Asp/Iron Palm's energy cost), attack, Iron Palm, attack, Entangling Asp (Asp is a spell, so you can let your opponent run away a bit because it is ranged), attack, Heavy Blow, attack, Hammer Bash. A W/A won't be able to use Iron Palm/Asp if he uses FGJ and TTL (also, a W/A should use Heavy Blow before Iron Palm->Asp), so think up two other no-energy skills to use instead. :p

Concentrate on warrior. You don't have the energy to really use many necro skills so pick 2 (in one skill) and learn when's best to use them. Vampiric Touch for example is useful for a quick bit of extra health in a fight (since you're in close range anyway), while Plague Touch gets rid of conditions others might put on you. As long as you don't have too many skills, EN isn't really a problem. You just have to remember that a W/N can't really be a proper necro and use your necro skills to augment your fighting rather than use them to fight.

I've just gotten to Eleanor's reach. And all these missions now you need a good team to do them. I did the last mission with 3 ele's 1 necro and maybe a ranger. I'm a W/Mo. so it wasn't a very balanced team, but the damage we put out, we didn't even need a monk to heal most the time. I say that, but the ele's did most the damage....lol
any tips on my playing? This is my first char, so I don't know very much.

Since you're a W/Mo. Most of the W/Mo's these days, that I've noticed, concentrated on getting the mobs together and have it concentrated on themselves. Then the ele's or casters can do there damage as quick as they can. Since, it's a pain for a monk to heal the mulitple casters at once, cuz they have weak armor.

Heck, I even ask if they need to recharge(which loses me my adrenalin). Most people don't even ask me If I need to recharge!

As for me, I just got back, couple of my officers in my guild were still active, glad to hear. So I'm gonna try to revive it back after getting used to the GW that is happening right now. As of now, I'm just doing random arenas and unlocking all of my skills for factions. I would do PvE, but will not do so until Anet implements the new LFG feature.

They are already into the 3rd installment. It would be dumb and stupid to raise the max level. That would just completely change the game play.

Lvl 20 is good enough, I rather be at lvl 20 then grinding all day to become lvl 40 or whatever.
