Try here. There might be something on the message board that gets you to it. Oh, and I disagree about it being better than Maria-sama. But they are very different stories, so comparing them doesn't really work. The only thing they have in common is the yuri.

Let me start with the worst then go to the best.
Kingdom of Selfish Love 'C'
The plot was confusing, I found one character likeable (Nandi) out of at least ten main characters, sex scenes weren't very graphic (dispite all the warnings), and I really didn't like the way they spoke. It just wasn't very plausable. I did like the short story at the end a little better (the reason for the 'C' instead of a 'D'). It does have some topless female shots.
Level-C volume 3 'B'
An attempt at a plot?!? *faints* Minimal sex and a real story line. Not the best storyline, but at least 'a' storyline.
Antique Bakery volume 1 'A'
A boy's love title. I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying this title. The start was a bit confusing, with the introduction of the characters. However, once you figure out who is who, the interactions become much more amusing. Two frames of a brief sex scene (between a major and a background character). But, I really like the characters and the situations. I can't wait for volume 2.

Okay, again worst to best...
Prisioner of the Immortal
I think I'm going to give up on this publisher for now. The first story was confusing, poorly drawn (kept getting the characters mixed up), and not a happy ending (grrr). The only redeeming quality of this book was the second story which I really liked: a young messenger of the gods (priest) is sent to a 'dark' planet to help the settlers with their demon problems. He later finds out he was really brought there to be a sacrifice to those very demons (a demon general in particular). One thing leads to another (and a very nice sex scene). The last story is very forgettable (left a very bad taste in my mouth). I think this publisher really needs to think about what Yaoi is (in my book: likeable characters, a good plot, steamy sex, and a warm/fuzzy ending).
Yellow
I may stick with this one. It does remind me of a more touchy/feely FAKE.
X/1999 volume 16

Kizuna OVA 1. I just got this in the mail today. I've heard many people say this wasn't very good, and now that I've seen it myself I must agree. The third OVA (aka "Much Ado About Nothing") was MUCH better. This one just felt like too much was crammed in it, and if you haven't read the manga it would not make much sense at all.

Yep. It was released back in May. It's much better than the first OVA, in myt opinion. You should definently see it if you really like Kizuna. It was under the title Kizuna: Much Ado About Nothing. If you want, I can give you a link to where I got it from if you PM me because it seems like AN doesn't have it.

Wow, did I get a wierd look this week picking up three "shrink wrapped" books at my local bookstore. Oh well. They already know I like unique items. :)
I really can't tell which of these three I liked the best (all are graphic, rated M or 18+):
Yellow 2 More tension between the two main characters (nice deep kisses, but nothing graphic between the main two, yet)
Shinobu Kokoro (Hidden Heart) by Temari Matsumoto Two stories each of three couples (six stories in total). The first is of a ninja master and his young student. The second is between two ninja trying to complete their job. The third is between a young man who gets injured in the winter and a snow spirit who saves him. All the stories are just adorable. Lots of blushing.
Love Mode 1 by Yuki Shimizu is what Level-C should be. Izumi is mistaken for a male escort by Takamiya. As Takamiya tries desperately to repent for his mistake, the two slowly come to realize feelings for each other. Lots of humor and bumps on the head. And one final, steamy story with chocolate aphrodisiacs to send you on your way.

I read Shinobu Kokoro last night too... I enjoyed the short stories but in retrospect, like April-san said, the first two stories did seem to be borderline shota. I'm not sure how old Subaru was but he was very naive either way. I was surprised anything close to shota has been licensed, I thought it was being avoided.

I've picked up at least 15 new books in the past 2 weeks; many from yaoi-con and a few that just got released at my local Borders.
Out of the bunch, I liked Yellow 2, Embracing Love (Haru wo Daiete Ita), Kizuna 4 (got it signed by Kodaka-sensei herself, yah!), Shinobu Kokoro and Love Mode.
I also picked up several western-style yaoi books from the publisher Yaoipress at the con, and I have to say I'm not impressed with the art. The only one that I found interesting was Yaoi Hentai, which included tentacle sex and some 2 on one, or rather, 2 *in* one action. -__-;;; That's always interesting.
anime-wise, I've just finished watching Kyou Karo Maou. Very funny and cute.
Oh, also picked up the uncensored Sensitive Pornograph and Legend of Blue Wolves dvds at yaoi-con. *NO* pixillation, which makes seeing them again an entirely new experience.

*flips thru copy of Yaoi Hentai* Well, it reminds me of badly drawn doujinshi. It's graphic, has BDSM, 2 boys in one...hole...action...tentacles...but the art leaves a lot to be desired. It's good for a laugh, I suppose, but not even close to the beautiful art of Kizuna or Haru wo Daite Ita. It seems to me the publisher is just jumping on the yaoi bandwagon and recruiting whatever western yaoi artists they can find.
Haunted, I got my copy of Love Mode at my local Borders. Apparently this is an older series, originally published in 1995, so the art is a bit dated, but the story is very cute.

If some of the Western releases would brush up on their art, I would give them a try. There was this one called Kingdom of Selfish Love (though I think it was Australian, if I remember correctly. Not completely sure though). The cover looks like it was drawn by a kid, and colored using MS Paint or someone who was not very experianced with Photoshop. Ick.
There was one recent one that was good. It doesn't fall into the yaoi category, or maybe not even shounen-ai, but it has major hints. It's called Off-Beat (first volume was released in September). I actually really like the art, because it's very different compared to Japanese art, but in a good way. The guys were very pleasing to the eyes.
I am curious. Is anyone else having trouble finding DMP stuff? They had five new releases back in October, and I have yet to find any of them. It seems like everything they have comes out a month later than the intended date.

And Off Beat from Tokyopop...sadly I purchased it but I haven't gotten past the first five pages. *sigh* I'll give it another try since you recommended it.
And I've had to directly order all of my DMP stuff. *double sigh* Shipping costs...

Just received Level C volumes 3 and 4 in the mail today; I don't know why I keep buying this series. I'm not crazy about uber feminine uke boys with big saucer eyes. And it seems that almost half the ukes out there are depicted like that. But it's cute, smutty, there's some semblence of a plot. (I think)
Also received Cage the Finder by Ayano Yamane-sensei; beautiful art, interesting back story about Asami and Fei Long. And of course some smut between Asami and Takaba. Not as much smex this time in this volume as the first Finder book. The third Finder tankouban was just released in Japanese, I might just have to order the book in the original language to see all Yamane-sensei's pretty pretty pictures.
Scans are all fine and good, I just prefer the hardcopy version, plus I try to support all the wonderful BL managaka who give us all the delish yaoi art. ^^

I don't mind them as long as you can at least tell they are male. However, I must say the uke (I think he is called Mizuki if I remember right) is sort of annoying. He acts too feminine and always acts like he's being raped.

Did you get the Finder directly from BeBeautiful? I'm trying to find a site that ships to Europe.

I did order the Finder books directly from BeBeautiful website. I don't see why they wouldn't ship overseas, but I don't know for sure.
I'm a bit irritated with BeBeautiful right now, and DMP, for that matter. They both keep delaying their new English releases; the 2nd Haru wo Daiteita book and also the 5th Kizuna English manga books were both postponed until Jan 2006. And DMP delayed their new releases by a month also. *growls* I've got some of them in scanslations, but I prefer the hardcopy version that I can read over much better.

Well, their "shipping" menu only got US and Canada, I can't find anything about international shipping on the site. I got the first Finder from animenation, but they don't carry book 2 :-(

Been gone awhile again... waited for my copy of Jazz so I could get my discount...I must say I'm disappointed.
This may be the first yaoi manga that I got and didn't like anything about it <_<
the art was sketchy and airy looking, non-existant story, sex scenes were random with no rhyme or reason.
The seme of the story is really pushy and the uke is unemotional yet fickle ... keeps saying that people are drawn to his personality but he doesn't like people in general.
Here i thought with the story scenerio of Doctor and Patient it would be a sneaky naughty NoNo kinda thing X|
romp in the office so to speak.

Thanks for the heads up Merryl, I wasn't too sure about Jazz in the first place and I know DMP has licensed at least two manga I wouldn't consider buying, so I didn't want to go out and be the first to buy Jazz without knowing what others thought of it - now I doubt I ever will buy the manga.
I went with Our Everlasting and Kimi Shiruya - Dost Thou Know? when I was ordering two of the new releases last week. I know I'll love Our Everlasting, and Kimi Shiruya - Dost Thou Know? has lots of elements I enjoy, like rivals. I'm still waiting for them to come in, when they do I'll post my opinions about them as well so others have an opinion to go on of their new releases :)

Fruits Basket 12
Alone in my King's Harem
(what was waiting for me) Cage the Finder (Finder Series #2) This one wasn't as graphic as the first one. Of course, there was a very nice bondage scene in the first story. Then, it went on to explain the relationship between Asami and Fei Long (Two strong semes = non-physical relationship...sigh). I'm already waiting for the third issue.

I might as well give the short version on Jazz...
Overbearing mother brings in son (looks older than characters age) with asthma attack ... the Doctor sees him notices that the mother is most of the kids problem and makes her wait outside.
Because of this the Patient become fixated with Doctor... almost stalker like in zero seconds.
They don't see each other for months .. upon graduation they celebrate his asthma total recovery-- he drugs the Doctor rapes him and then everything is like ok
they both move to another city-- live together -- one obsessively in love the other not capable of emotion -- always forced sex.
No romance in this one.
Story too disjointed to get a feeling for the characters anyway.
The Doctor moves to the States for more schooling leaving his stalker/captor ... whatever.
the decent part was the ending ... one of the kids' friends says if he loves the Doc he should move to the States too...
He finally does and they do end up together ... apparently in love for real this time
Carmel
December 17th, 2005, 12:41 PM
Err, that sounds horrible! Really. I'll never buy it now with that summary, I don't like rape at all. The doctor was the one that had no emotions? I thought he'd be the seme! So in the end the doctor moves away as unemotional as ever and the stalker follows him again? How does that change that they're in love for real? If it were the unemotional one following the other I might understand... but it doesn't seem like anything would've changed if it's just the stalker following the poor raped guy again.

Just finished reading Akisato Wakuni's Nemureru Mori no Binan (Sleeping Handsome-- like the title of Sleeping Beauty but with a man rather than a woman) last night; I'd say it's one of the better BL manga I've read. It's about a Japanese doctor who goes to the US and ends up falling for a German doctor there. What really struck me about it were the real-world issues that came up-- it takes place in 1982, and AIDS plays a minor role in the manga. That and the difference between it (it's from the late 80s, I think) and current BL drawing styles-- both of the characters have mustaches, for example.
If you're looking for a slight change of pace and can read some Japanese, I'd highly recommend it. I think the original version is out of print, but it's available together with the sequel (Tomoi) in one bunko volume called "Tomoi." The ISBN is 4091910440.
Now to start reading the sequel... :)

Well, I don't know. I have many friends; straight, gay and bisexual, and those that are lesbian and who know of my yaoi hobby, seem to be fine with it. In fact, I have an online lesbian friend who publishes yuri material and also personally collects yaoi doujinshi. Most of the yaoi friends I have are at the very least bi-curious. It's truly a pity that everyone cannot be accepting of each other's preferences, but it's not a perfect world.

Beyond My Touch
I admit I liked this title a lot more than I thought I would. The story was cliche, but it was very enjoyable. The art was very good. I loved the side remarks from Mamoru ("Then, let's go find a fresh dead body somewhere...and if I possess it... CENSORED" *WHAM!*). The end of the story was so sweet, it made me melt.
It was purely Boys Love, with nothing graphic more than a few sugesstive remarks. There's three main stories: Beyond My touch 1-3, Cool Lips, and Recipe. Same character design in all three, but all very cute stories. I did like the first the best.

*snort* Plot is optional in yaoi manga, methinks. (eg: Level C series. XD) Of course, it's fantastic if a mangaka can combine a decent plot, beautiful art and delicious smex all together in one series. ^^
I finally received from Amazon the titles I pre-ordered months ago; Our Everlasting, Dost thou know, Jazz, La Esperanca, and Beyond My Touch. Out of the bunch I think I liked Jazz the best, although the uke, the Dr, seemed to have very little backbone against his possesive patient/lover.
Las Esperenca seems to have good potential, no pairings yet in the first volume. The setting is interesting; an European all boys school, but it works.
Beyond My Touch and Dost Thou Know were both cute, fluffy BL stories, Our Everlasting was a bit more angsty, but good also. Rather feminine ukes in Our Everlasting, IMHO.

Rising Storm is drawn by the same Mangaka who drew "Brother", so there's a lot of graphic smex, and a somewhat cracked plot. Her art is good, not the best I've seen, but still enjoyable. Fun and sexy.
I'm so glad to see Masara Minase-sensei's books published in English, I love her art, and I like her storylines. Just got the latest BeBeautiful releases in the mail: Kizuna 5 and Embracing Love 2 (Haru wo Daiteita). I don't know, but I think I like the scanslation of Haru wo better than the official English release.
The very ending of Embracing Love 2, where Iwaki finally admits to Katou that he loves him, is changed to "Katou...I like you..." and then they proceed to have incredible sex. The Haru wo scanslations and the OVA both translate that moment as "Katou...I love you..." which I think is a better translation for that moment. JMHO. :P
Kizuna 5 is great, anything by Kodaka-sensei is wonderful. I think the original series is 10 volumes long, so the English version is halfway done.

I know what you mean Cve. I don't really buy BeBeautiful titles (over priced, edited... bad translations), but when critical moments are happening and the translation goes for the lesser of the two between love and like it can feel really weird for the situation. Where someone is proclaiming "love" instead of "like" I never have a problem, but the other way around often just wrecks the mood. I feel like going "... that's it, huh... professing undying... like"
The most recent for me would've been Wild Rock ^_^ I enjoyed it... nothing amazing, but I love the art. The total lack of color images when they're advertised made me extremely mad however, because I find the colored pages inside Wild Rock to be some of the most stunning and memorable art, yaoi or otherwise, I've seen in manga.

I was curious about this one (I don't know much about it). I love Yuu Higuri's Cantarella. Can you give a little descriptor, cve? Thanks!

February 14th, 2006, 09:14 PM
Well, let's see. Gorgeous Carat is set in 18th century France, where the Florian, the main uke-looking chara is the son of an impoverished aristocratic family. A distant relative, Ray Courland, (eventual seme) bails the family out of debt by 'buying' Florian. Seems like Courland has a thing for jewels, and is quite taken by Florian's amethyst eyes. Courland and everyone else is after the lost family heirloom, a cursed 120 carat diamond. No real BL in this volume, only Courland declaring to a resisting Florian, "I bought you, you're mine." Typical possesive seme behavior, hah.
There're more to the story, it's rather interesting. I hope the next volume has more action, since there's so much potential between the 2 bishounen.
Was always curious about Cantarella myself. Is there any BL in it? It wasn't labeled as a BL/yaoi manga when I leafed thru it, so I wasn't sure. Art was beautiful though. ^^

Art was beautiful though. ^^Well from what I know (which revolves around mass confusion) Gorgeous Carat is 10 volumes long, so there's plenty of time for things to happen, and Gorgeous Carat Galaxy is the sequel, which makes no sense as it'll be released at the same time as the prequel but from a different company <_< I don't know how long Galaxy is, though... I think it was continued as Galaxy because the mangaka switched publishing companies but wanted to continue the same story, or so I've heard.
Cantarella I don't know much on either, I've only read until the first chapter of volume three, but I do know in a much later volume (8?!), there's a kiss... so if that counts for light shounen-ai, then yay! I think it's shounen-ai enough ^_^ And the plot is good.
Ah, and to stay on topic... I'm starting to read Earthian volume 2~

I'm so glad I picked this one up. It made all my fan-girl senses go tinglely. Beautiful artwork. Much, much better than From Eroca With Love.
I really, really like these BLU titles. I'm not sure how good the translation is, but it seems well thought out. Just a little side note.

I read Sequence scanlated, I enjoyed it for a light shounen-ai read with the cross dressing and sharing a bed and everything. The only problem with it is it's only 1 volume, some of a second volume was released in Japan, but not enough for it to be made into a manga of its own and then it was cancelled or something (so its a good thing there's scanlations for the extra few chapters) :( I'm looking forward to Tokyopop releasing Yorozuya Tokaido Honpo, it's a finished work by the same mangaka, I think 9 volumes ^_^

Just received Embracing Love 3 (Haru wo Daiteita). The translation was very similar to the scanlation, so I was pleased. What I particularly liked was that they translated all the author notes and the "interview" of Iwaki and Katou. It's interesting to see what goes on in the mangaka's head, and in this case, her version of what goes on in her characters' heads. ^^
I don't see a release date on the rest of the Haru wo series though, it looks like BeBeautiful is going to release Boku no Koe instead. (don't remember the English title) hmmmm...

Sukisho 3 DVD
Love Mode 2
I'm very surprised I like this one since I really didn't like B&B's owner, Aoe Reiji, in the first Love Mode. This one mainly deals with Reiji after being dumped by his girlfriend who takes in a stray "kitten". The "kitten", Naoya (a high school student) was in the wrong place at the wrong time when Reiji's former girlfriend attempts to throw a flowerpot at Reiji and instead hits Naoya. Reiji feels guilty and takes the boy home after he is released from the hospital.
The last story has a short yaoi story between the real Izumi and Takamiya from the first Love Mode.
The teaser for the third has the B&B club's #1 host "Izumi" falling in love.

Earthian vol. 2 and Loveless as far as shounen ai goes. And I'm yet to see any yuri/shoujo ai. Normally, if it isn't dubbed I won't bother with it.
I haven't seen any yaoi anime yet, but I have been buying a lot of doujinshi. I'm in love with Raito and L from Death Note (read up to volume 3 so far), so I basically buy everything involving them them on Ebay. I can't remember the names but if anyone's curious I can show which books I bought.
Haha, I just love it when they draw Ryuk properly. He's also one of my favorite characters. And I found it so amusing how L is always seme. Very sexy. All I need are some translations!
I do have a bit of a pet peeve with doujinshi now though. They always put 'hard yaoi' when it really isn't. I haven't seen any doujinshi with full-frontal nudity or graphic sex yet.
Really makes me want to draw my own. x-x;

I just got my fan-subbed copies of: Tsubasa the Movie and Haru Wo Daite ita ova 1 & 2 ("Embrasing Love" US manga titles)
Tsubasa: Too short! Too little Kuro/Fai fanservice! (well, there was a little, so that makes me a little happy)
Haru Wo Daite Ita: This is a good one for those who don't like their ukes "femine". I would say the first ova followed the manga very well (for what you can fit in 25 minutes). The second ova was very good, but I cannot comment on the storyline (I'm not up to that manga issue, yet). No body parts shown (not even nice shots of the butt), but the character designs were very masculine and both voices were absolutely male.

I finally got around to reading Shout Out Loud vol. 1 and Sweet Revoluation afterwards. I have this tendency to 'save best for last', but it didn't really work out this time.
Sweet Revolution was really disappointing. The story felt so....recycled. Like I had read this story before in other books. It was so bland and predictable. The relationship wasn't developed at all, and at the end I felt like I know nothing about the characters. Such a shame, because I had high hopes.
Shout out Loud. Ironically, this one turned out to be really good because I was kinda iffy on it. The whole premise behind it was very interesting and I am curious to see what kind of relationships will happen in future volumes. Plus, you really don't get to see many older men (in their 30s) in many yaoi manga. I rather like the idea.

Forgive this post. I've had a long day.
3 DMP this week: Our Kingdom 2, Almost Crying, My Only King
I'll go from worst to best.
My Only King (boys love)
A collection of short stories including a very feme looking alien sent to protect his king, a VERY feme looking ghost haunting a bathtub, and almost a shota one at the end, a king who sells children becomes attached to a young boy and albino girl.
Cute. I wish I would have read this one before Almost Crying, since I like the art and storylines more in Almost Crying.
Almost Crying (boys love)
I didn't realize it was also a collection of short stories. This manga was all fluff and really made me smile. A young insecure boy becomes attached to a reluctant poet, AFTER the Little Mermaid where the prince becomes attached to the Little Mermaid's brother (LOL), a servant becomes a robotic dog to please his master, A girl dumps a boy but gives him her brother in exchange, Can't say "I love you" too much, A young man belives a boy is actually "Lily" a doll, and the final title story of an abandoned boy taken in by a family and develops feelings for his "brother". Adorable large-eyed chibi art. Certainly a keeper.
Our Kingdom 2
The further adventures of Akira and Rei. Yoji, Akira's uncle, returns to the complex to meet the two young heirs, ultimately kidnapping Akira. Then, Raoul returns and ends up trapping Akira in a warehouse. Rei becomes jelous and physically shows Akira how he feels about him. (even though nothing is shown, I'm surprised this one wasn't shrink wrapped). And, the manga concludes with a very cute story between Shigure and Okumiya. Even though it's not graphic, the storyline and character design are real treats. Also a keeper.

I just received "...But I'm your Teacher!" in the mail today. Mangaka is Row Takakura, the same mangaka who drew "Skyscrapers of Oz," both published by KittyMedia.
Main storyline consists of the "gorgeous younger seme student seduces and screws older but beautifully effeminate teacher" plot. I've seen the storyline in many scanlations, but I still enjoy it. The rest of the book consists of sexy one-shots, all smutty and cute.
My complaint with this manga: none of the sfx were translated. Not even a little blurb somewhere with the translation. I know what many of the sfx are, but it would be nice to have them available somewhere in the book.

I read Let Dai volume 1, I enjoyed it a lot... I wasn't sure if I would because the first free chapter online only gave me slight interest, but when I saw a deal online I bought it and I'm happy I did! ^_^
The company themself isn't that great, I don't like that way text is often left or right aligned, some of the translations were difficult to understand and I noticed a few incorrect words, but the story beat out the fact that I'm not pleased with the company.
I really enjoyed reading the narration, it mostly was from Jaehee's point of view, and the angst and somewhat twisted relations with a darker story about gangs is quite a nice change from more of the fluffy BL out there. I'm left wondering why it's rated 13+ (I think they're chaging the rating for the second volume), the swearing alone should bump up the rating, and let's not forget everything else like masochism and sadomasochism and a bunch of other stuff in the manhwa. :P
Wow, didn't think I'd write so much!

Just got Play Boy Blues by Shiuko Kano. Gawd, I adore this mangaka's art, so sexy. I really wish a publisher would pick up more of her works for English publication. I own almost all her work in the original Japanese tankoubon.
BeBeautiful didn't mess this manga up too much, it's pretty much the same as the scanlation. I noticed a few discrepancies, but all in all, it's good. Not much of a plot, the main charas are gigolo hosts who become lovers, get jealous of each other and screw each other blind every chance they get. A preview bonus chapter for Gaten na Aitsu (translated as "Manly Construction Training") was included, which makes me wonder if BeBeautiful will be publishing Gaten in English at some point. *hopes*

I got my copy of Earthian 3 at my local bookstore. They know what I like and point out the new manga.
*possible spoiler for end of Earthian 3*
The ending was sort of vague, leaving many questions of who survived and who died, and what happened to everyone (hopefully answered in one of the short stories of volume 4). In the war between the angels and the earthian, there were a few casualties. Whether or not it was a happy ending depends on how much you liked certain side characters.
True spoiler: The last frames of the volume have Chihaya and Kagetsuya returning to Earth, watching the sunrise. Since I really only cared about those two, it was a happy ending for me.

Graphic Novel
A lifelong dream of fame and fortune has been the driving force of Wataru Jouchi's entire life. Now, after much self-doubt, he's decided to fulfill his destiny and become a voice actor for anime videos.
At first, he is thrilled to discover that his long lost friend, Renji Kazama, is considered a top star in the industry. But Kazama does not seem at all pleased about their unexpected reunion. Is he simply wary of this newfound competition, or is there another reason why he seems intent on keeping Wataru at arm's reach?
Wow, that is really bad cover art. Is it liek that on the inside to?

I have one of her mangas and the cover art is always kinda ugly. The inside art is a lot better, seriously.
