Hey, Im not sure if you guys already discussed this but I was wondering if any of you played "Legend of Heroes" yet. I like it, I got it for Christmas. I read some bad reviews for it but I am playing it and enjoying it right now. I like the premise of the story and the old school style rpg.

thx for the help with the net but now ive got another problem, sometimes when i play TMHO the game seems to "pull-to-the-left" it doesnt car control but when selecting a car sometimes i have to move the analog stick cuz it keeps switching back to the car i previously had selected, and in-game when i do energy attack (sometimes when i do shield it cloaks) its really just a minor neusance every now and then but i dont know if it will get worse or if its just the game (everything else i do on my psp doesn't pull left) im getting socom soon so ill see if it does it for that game any but do you guys think maybe i should use the 1-year warranty?

hey guys when i updated to firmware 2.60 when it got to 99% it said the update failed but when i restarted my psp and tried to redo the update it was already at 2.60 (even though it said it failed) could it have been becouse i didnt have the charger plugged into it? should i be concerned about this?
regus 5000

the fact that u can now update without the charger is a little scam by sony to get people of the homebrews. so when u play a new game that requires a new firmware it would start without your charger being in.

Homebrew itself is a scam. They should have the right to stop you from doing illigal things.

so if you update without the charger you will get the error msg at 99%?

Yea, they messed up their update thing, all their previous versions will not let you start the upgrade if the AC Cable isnt plugged in. So it may be because you didnt have the AC plugged in. I gotta say you are lucky, most of the ppl who have had problems at 99% and had to turn off their PSP's had their PSP's bricked by doing so.

homebrews are acctually pretty fun. it like going back to the original days with games like pong or pac man. even though the graphics arent up to date the games are still alot more fun the some of the current games in the library *caugh* untold ledgends*caugh*. there is nothing wrong with them as long as they dont pirate games through iso rips and emulators. but im not going to get into an arguement over this with u.

i downgraded to version 1.0 and upgraded to version 2.60 when i got the 99% error it totally didnt warn me or try to stop me when the cable wasnt pluged in, those other peaple with the 99% errors was it becouse they didnt plug in there AC's plugged in? im just freaked out that when version 2.70 comes out and i try to update its gonna get to 99% and do the same thing and brick on me. Yea, its looking really dry as of late. Only 3 games coming out this month, and the only decent one it seems is Tales of Eternia (unless you're a big Mega Man fan). February is looking pretty good, Advent Shadow, Guilty Gear, Mortal Kombat, Syphon Filter, Winning Eleven 9, Street Fighter Alpha, Gran Turismo 4.
Shame that none of these games will be playable without upgrading to 2.5 (and possibly 2.6), hopefully someone will crack the higher firmware enough to create an ISO launcher.

GTA comes with 2.0, its the highest firmware that you can get that is still able to downgrade. However, all of the recent releases require 2.5 in order to play, so the only way to play (right now) is to buy/rent the games.

Yea, you have to import it, only chain store that i know carries imports is Fry's. I got mine on ebay for $55 shipped. The game is really interesting, has diff areas where you may need to say certain things (Ie, "general chat", "entertainment", "on the airplane", "at the movies", etc). Then there are mini games that have to do with pronunciation, memorizing things, etc.
Not sure if they ever plan on releasing it in the US, i think if they did, they'd be better off making one with Spanish - English, for anyone who ever plans to visit Miami in their life (gawhah)

sounds pretty good, DS is definately better made for a MMO game, just have a ingame keyboard that you can use the stylus on, and diff commands when necessary.
Supposedly Sony Online Entertainment was supposed to be working on everquest for PSP. But that game'd probably be really hard to play without a keyboard (though i think that logitech is working on a PSP keyboard.)
The game i cant wait for is Metal Gear Acid 2. Gonna be cool with the 3d viewfinder thing.

meh. i dont have a ds so either way.........
but on a high note. a psx emulator has been created and a beta version is on the way. final fantasy VII will makes its way to the psp soon
that wouldn't work to well, the rule of thumb of emulation is that the specs of machine that does the emulation has to be around 5 to 10 times that of the source, well it really depends on the software, but its not gonna play very well it'll be interesting to see it run though

Try to adjust the settings, it varies by game. I found that turning the sound off, and shrinking the size, and turning on the auto frame skip helps greatly with the framerate.

Well I decided hard cold that I want a PSP instead of an Xbox, but I have to wait till next month when I get even more money. But this coming Month in Febuary 1st I'll buy Megaman Maverick Hunter X, just to show myself that I will buy a PSP.
Oh and about hacking the PSP software, I would never do that, I don't want to get any virus or trojan that will screw up or destroy the bios and bootup of my PSP and have a permanetly useless PSP. Plus I don't want to use a PSP for illegal things. The only thing I'll do is probably use offical updates by Sony.

Yes I have a DS, and I love that thing.
The PSP is starting to get alot of great games now. It started out slow, but now its picking up, like the PS1 and PS2 did. All video game systems start out with games that aren't what people really want, but then many months later it picks up. Now the DS has lots of great games even with a slow start.

The only real reason to have 1.0/1.5 is because its the only firmwares that can play downloaded PSP games.
Though sony has been doing a good job keeping us from being able to play downloaded games. 90% of the games that have came out since GTA are either non-playable or after some prx modification, playable, without the save function.
Im hoping someone will find a way to make an iso loader that'll work with the GTA exploit, god bless Rockstar/Take Two and Fanjita.

Attention Initial D Fans (ME)
Yay and we dont need to do mods.. just insert and enjoy! PvP via Ad-hoc and more bonus stuff for us. Btw, controls are just as good as the PS2 version.
http://www.toysnjoys.com/importpsp/initialdstreetstage.jpg
Article Here (http://psp.ign.com/objects/770/770341.html)
Just in time for the Japanese release of the Initial D movie, Sega has a PSP version of its hit arcade racer Initial D Arcade Stage. Initial D Street Stage will be based off Version 3 of the arcade game, giving it some gameplay bonuses over Sega's successful PS2 version. Street Stage has all the characters, cars and tracks from Version 3 of the arcade game, and then some. In addition to wireless ad-hoc play, the game will include a new card element. Following each battle, you earn a card. Cards come in three flavors: rival, battle and tuning. The rival and battle cards are just for show, giving details, respectively, on the characters and classic battles from the series. The tuning cards, however, contribute to gameplay, as you can combine these to customize your car. In all, Street Stage will feature over 200 cards to collect.

some awsome news abbout the psp and some not so awsome news about the ps3 from pspupdates.com
On today's PlayStation Business Briefing 2006, Sony Computer Entertainment has announced an upcoming revolution for the PlayStation Portable. There will be tons of new features to be added to this divine object of glory in the upcoming months. A delay to the PS3 release has also been announced officially.
The users will be able to add new exciting functions, such as the Macromedia Flash Player, and will be expanding the current RSS channel function to support streaming and saving internet radio and videos, by updating the System Software of the PSP (the firmware) to the latest version.
New official accessories will also be released this autumn, such as the PSP camera "PSP-300" and the GPS receiver "PSP-290". The users will be able to experience the motion tracing function of the EyeToy, which was originally available on the PS2 by using the PSP camera. With the help of the GPS receiver, you will be able to make use of navigation software to guide your way all over the world.
Sony will be starting a new e-Distribution system for the PSP. You may start to wonder what it is, huh? Well, simply saying - to buy and download games into your memory stick, and run them directly from it!! Bye-bye, loading times... But wait, that is not all the fun you can get from the new service. There will also be an OFFICIAL PlayStation Emulator by Sony itself (PacManFan, don't cry)! Sony will be distributing modified PlayStation/PlayStation 2 games through this system.
Also, the "Ceramic White" PSP will be sold in a normal pack (PSP, 1 battery, power adapter) from April in Japan, at a price for 19,800 JPY (167.8 USD). North American and European users will be able to buy a "Base Model" pack (PSP, 1 battery, power adapter) of the PSP at $199USD/199 Euro. The actually dates are: Europe from March 22, North American from the end of March.
So much for the PSP side, now here is a bad news for the PS3 fans. Sony has officially announced that the release of the PS3 is postponed from this spring to early November of 2006. However, the release of the PS3 will be global - Asia, North America and Europe will be getting the release in the mean time. Sony will be able to offer 1 million consoles per month after the release, to meet the need of the users around the world.

It's getting a lot of PSX remakes already though. It'll be interesting to see exactly what limitations the emulator faces. Full access to the PSX library could no doubt diminish that DS lead real quick, but that's far too convenient to actually happen.

Anyway, I kinda wanted to get into games for PSP that should be. Maybe like a few more anime style fighting games. I loved the Dragonball Z game for PSP, and go to to thinking, how much awesome would it be if there was a game like Shounen Jump Superstars for the PSP?

I'm not too keen on a lot of the PSP's lineup myself at the moment (it's hard to be with Metroid coming out next week on the DS), but if there's one thing it DOES have, it's fighters. Guilty Gear is a pretty awesome anime styled one. SFA and Darkstalkers are classics as well. Even Tekken looks like it's gonna be great. And to be quite honest, that's the last thing the system probably needs, because I've at least played a friend's PSP, and I cannot imagine playing fighting games on that thing. At least, not "well".
VidelCoolGirl

Fighting games for the PSP are very fun indeed. Right now, it seems as if thats all they have to offer. The many puzzle games are fine, but get annoying quick. and the only Adventure game I look forward to is Daxter. I assume that really good games are going to come out later in the year, maybe in fall, but right now, I honestly would rather wait for better games and just get some for DS.

Right, im a fanboy because i have the common decency not to talk about the DS in a PSP thread *rolls eyes*.
The only thing i am a fanboy of is Fullmetal Alchemist. As far as consoles go, its the games that matter, not the system you play it on.
PSP is taking up too much of my time these days, soo many releases, Ys a couple of weeks ago, DBZ last week, Daxter & Syphon Filter this week, Untold Legends next week, then Metal Gear Acid 2 the week after that. This guy says that the best thing the psp lineup has is fighting games (which isn't true) and then he says he "can't imagine playing fighting games on that thing" because he played one game that one time for what maybe 10 minutes? Yeah that's enough to make a generalization like that.

It was a followup to the comment on the post directly above me and I for one think my comments make perfect sense. She said "wish the PSP had more anime based fighting games" and I basically said "I for one think the selection is pretty good, but I think I'd have a difficult time playing them on the hardware." Am I really that ambiguous and illogical?
I know I have a habit of playing devil's advocate, but I've tried very hard lately to turn that into sensible and reasonable arguments for both the positives and negatives for all the systems involved. Somehow, I don't think I'm catching any less flack for it.

Alright, I'm done arguing about the DS thing, I just said something about it, nothing to it.
The PSP is hard to play games on it a bit. I don't know why, but the shape of it makes it a little hard for me to play fighting games, like the DBZ game is a little difficult. I can still do a good job at it, but you cant hold it like the PS controller, so I think I'm too used to that. Also, theres something about the shoulder buttons that seem a bit off also.
If there was some kind of accesory where you could put the PSP on it to make it look like a PS controller, I'd buy that in a minute.

Can you hook up an external 2.5 inch Hard drive to the PSP?
You can hook it up to the USB port, however, the external drive will have to have a LCD screen and buttons to select media to transfer/etc, and all you'll be able to do is transfer things to and from your existing memory stick. The only way you'd be able to use the harddrive as a direct source would be to solder yourself a HD -> MS Duo data adapter, which no one has been able to do yet.

I thought for sure that was an April Fool's joke but there's so many replies on there it very well may be legit.
While a 1.5 can certainly be used for illegal purposes, I definitely prefer to play my games off the memory stick. Graphics on the PSP are about halfway between the PS1 and PS2, but the load times are as horrendous as PS1 load times. My copy of Eternia just feels a lot less disjointed playing it from the stick.
If this info is true though, it kicks major arse. I'm a huge Street Fighter fan, but have yet to pick up a copy of Alpha 3 due to not wanting my PSP updated past 2.0. I'll give it a few days to play out then if this is still being called legit, I'll go out and finally snag me a copy.

Do you know any details about the ps1 emulator? Like will it only support a sony specific format or any roms and how much will the emulator and individual games cots?

They havent told us anything about pricing, what games, etc. But supposedly the rom saves onto your memory stick, meaning, unless they make some kind of ultra encryption, somone can just go and put it up on the net for ppl to download instead of paying for it.
SUPE12MAN23, buying another psp is a good idea. I have 2 PSP's one is 1.50 one is 2.60. The 1.5 is for homebrew/ISO's and the 2.6 is for AVC video, Itunes, and Katamari (since they cant seem to get that game to work on 1.5, yet.) Though you might as well wait til 3.0 comes out. For all we know, theyre'll be another price drop by then, im sure Sony's gonna try to come up with something to compete with the DS Lite.

Here are a couple "leaked" screens from the PSX Emulator, no idea if they're fake or not, most likely, yes.

Yea, $15 for an emulated game is a bit much, but according to the story, the source of the pics also said that the files would save to the memory stick and run off of the "Game" tab. So most likely unless Sony heavily encrypts the files, you'll be able to share them on the net with other people.

Which makes sense to run it off the game tab. Sony did put it there after all for a reason.
And 15 dollars isn't much. You're basically paying the same price for a greatest hits game. Not too bad. Oh lord, when FF7/8/9 and FFT come out for this thing I'm gonna be in heaven. BUT, all that gets cancelled out because of MGS1. Too many gaming possibilities.
My question is: Will the games have slightly better graphics? As in, smooth textures rather than pixelated ones? Cause you know, PSX games are pretty old.

Acctually I think they won't look that much different then current psp games. If you were to blow a psp game up on a tv, you would see it's apperently really jaggy and I read in a game magazine that it doesn't look much better then ps1. It's because of the small high def psp screen makes it look better.

I was about to say the same exact thing. Watch an xplay PSP review for instance. Some games look smooth on the PSP but they're all a little jaggy on the Xplay reviews, so for games that looked a little jaggy on the big screen, I'll bet the reverse is true.

Wow, the portable MGS looks stellar. Judging from the pics, and considering how much smaller a PSP screen is than a moniter, it appears it will look about as impressive as the PS2 games.
Who knows just how Crisis Core will turn out? Squeenix is pretty hit or miss on the action titles. But if it doesn't turn out so well, it looks like MGS might be able to pick up the slack. PSP needs another top tier title.

I've been playing the new Tekken: Dark Resurrection game nonstop. This has gotta be the BEST handheld fighting game out there. Great graphics, very smooth gameplay, low loading times, and more modes that you can shake a stick at (yea, overused saying). You can create fights for 1 vs 1 all the way up to 8 vs. 8, offline & wifi. Theres story mode, arcade mode, "dojo" mode, time attack, survival, etc. You can also customize your character to how you see fit (you gotta buy stuff with money you earn from winning fights).
I took a few screenshots, they do no justice to how good the game really looks.

I'm selling off my 2.71 PSP today. I really have no use for it now that 1.5 can emulate 2.71. Ill probably wait to see what happens with the official ps1 emulator, and other firmware upgrades before i decide to rebuy (and ill most likely buy one of the ceramic white ones instead).

I'm curious about it, but at the same time I'm worried the lack of a 2nd analog stick will kill the game. The camera controls were never very good in the games, and I can only imagine them being worse on the PSP. I think I'll get the Wii version eventually, when it drops to $30 or so.
As for PSP games I'm looking forward to, I'm going to import Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 3 (http://www.otakuwiki.com/index.php/Zettai_Zetsumei_Toshi_3) (Disaster Report 3) next month, and I'm really tempted to import Toradora! Portable as well. Toradora is more of a visual novel with some mini-games, so I'm not as tempted to drop the money on it, but Disaster Report 3 is great (played the demo a few times already).

Unless it's for the eagle eye technique, there never has been a usage for the second analog stick for Tenchu, or at least from my playing experience. I own the first PS-1 Tenchu games and WoH and Fatal Shadows for PS2. The controls for the earlier games were hard, because they used the d-pad, but the camera angles vastly improved on the latter two. Either that or I've never had problems with them. So, I guess it depends on the player and what the player is trying to do. I personally believe it's a better port for the PSP, because of the controls. From reviews and comments, I heard that the absence of the grappling hook as well as one-on-one combat has made it more difficult or hard to swallow. But, with all of the new and creative stealth kill methods added and a good story, I'm only thirsty.
You can also pick up the used Wii version for just around $9 at some GameStops.
I hear the draw distances for the Tenchu PSP game are horrendous.
That's for "Tenchu: Time of the Assassins" which was the first Tenchu game released for PSP. It's only available in Europe and Japan. The draw distance in that game is ridiculously short and the area is surrounded by fog. It's sort of like "Tenchu 2: Birth of the Stealth Assassins."

It depends on what kind of games you like. There are a lot out there, but I personally never liked any that everyone seems to consistently list in their choices. The PSP is worth getting if you enjoy portability capabilities/features such as music, videos, photos, internet and video games all in one. The later models also come with Skype and the 3000 comes with a very high quality screen and built-in microphone. The cons are very few. The battery life goes for about 4-5 hours tops, I think. And, the screen needs protection 'cause it can get scratched easily and whatnot. Those are the only bad things I've noticed. Oh yeah, flash support sucks, so if you're one of those people that enjoy playing flash games, then they run really slow on the PSP.
These are some of the games that I enjoy, but you might not.
1. Infected (Third Person Shooter/Zombies)
2. Tenchu: Shadow Assassins (Stealth/Ninja)
3. Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure (Action Adventure)
4. Sega Genesis Collection (Collection of 28 Sega Genesis Games including Phantasy Star II, III and IV)
5. Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (Stealth)

If you only want to play games, then the Nintendo DS is ideal for that. Unless, of course, the games for Nintendo DS aren't to your liking and you care about better graphics and quality found in games like God of War. It's your pick really. The one thing good about the DS is that it has backward compatibility with GameBoy Advance games. So, there's a wider selection of games and they're cheaper. Also, the DS seems to have more kiddy titles, so if you want more mature titles and intense gameplay, PSP is better for that.
Wide assortment of games and not much care for graphics or intense games? Nintendo DS.
Narrow assortment of games and care for graphics and intense games? PSP.

Well old gameboy games are expensive at EB games and that is the only place where I live that sells them and I don't have any interest in the games that come out on the DS. PSP on the other hand I have a ton of games that I'm interested in playing. If you can list DS games that ARE GOOD not some crappy quality games that I keep seeing on the shelves then maybe I will purchase a DS but until you list them the PSP seems to have my interest.

If you have games that you want to play for PSP, then I don't see any further need to wait. The majority of Nintendo DS' good games are RPGs and puzzles. I don't know what kind of games you like, but if you're looking for better graphic quality and mature themes, then the PSP is your bet. If you only have EB Games available, then it's a mixed chance that you'll find what you're looking for. Do you already have a list of PSP games that you want to get and know that they're available?
Also, if game prices are an issue, why not just find the used ones?

PSP games are more fun majority wise than NDS imo. NDS is too much like Wii, in terms of game quality, imo.
The PSP and NDS are kin of like the N64 and PSX in reverse for me. The DS by a huge margin has more games that I'll play, but the PSP games I'll play are so much better its smaller library balances out.

If the PSP would release more games like Syphon Filter and Crisis Core, the DS wouldn't have a hope of a chance.
