Theres this new Anime thats about to start airing on Nick called (Avatar the last Air Bender). They said this Anime should be really good.
This is the Description of the Show:
Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Only the Avatar was the master of all four elements. Only he could stop the ruthless Fire Nation from conquering the world. But when the world needed him most, he disappeared. Until now... On the South Pole, a lone Water Tribe village struggles to survive. It's here that a young Waterbender named Katara and her warrior brother Sokka rescue a strange boy named Aang from a cavernous iceberg. Not only is Aang an Airbender--a race of people no one has seen in a century--but they soon discover that Aang is also the long lost Avatar. Now it's up to Katara and Sokka to make sure Aang faces his destiny to save the tribe--and himself. Did we mention he's only 12?
It Airs on Feb.21 at 7ET on Nick

This is the Main Character's description of his background
His name is Aang
Aang is a hero—a 12-year-old hero who likes to stir up trouble. Raised by Airbender monks in a temple hidden in the mountains, Aang is the last Airbender and the only known survivor of the Air Nomads. It's Aang's destiny as the Avatar to master all four elements—Air, Water, Earth and Fire. But he'd rather search for adventure than save the world. Though he's very spiritual, Aang doesn't like being known as the mythical Avatar or being the center of attention, he just wants to be a normal kid. Aang loves animals, especially his giant flying bison, Appa, and his pet winged-lemur, Momo. He's quick to take detours along his journey, much to the dismay of Katara and Sokka, and he's a master of getting himself into sticky situations. Luckily for all three of them—and the rest of the world—he's pretty good at getting out of them too.

Either way, it isn't anime. Anime is from Japan. It doesn't matter what it looks like. Big O and the Batman cartoon series are drawn almost exactly alike, but only one is anime. It's more of a cultural thing than a visual one. Either way, it doesn't sound like a terrible show and considering the crap Nick used to air it sounds like a step up. I remember my childhood Saturday mornings being spent watching Garfield and Friends, X-Men, Spiderman, etc. Back then Nick had some great stuff going for it too. Ren and Stimpy, Doug, Rugrats... then it just went downhill, which oddly enough coincided with the same time I started to sleep in on Saturdays.
Go figure. Still, I won't watch it.

Okay, hate to be technical, but the literal definition of anime is Japanese Animation, so unless it's produced in Japan, then it isn't anime
A style of animation developed in Japan, characterized by stylized colorful art, futuristic settings, violence, and sex.

I just finished watching it with my little sister. If you ask me, if the creators were looking to imitate anime's art style, they did a pretty good job of it. However, it was easy to remind oneself that it WASN'T anime by the Nickelodeon logo, some of the voices, the goofy sound effects, and how the name 'Sokka' was pronounced 'Sakka'. :P Anyhow, I liked it.

I really like this american anime. It is different than the other amercan anime because it has more detail and it is animated like other anime from japan. One could mistaken it as an imported anime. some people thought nick bought the anime and wished it to have been bought by cartoon network instead, but it was actualy made by nick.

Though if it is a cartoon mimicing anime, this could indicate that he is going to side with the good guys later. He acts more like a spoiled kid than a truly bad guy, so the possibility of him growing up to realize that what his people seek to accomplish is somehow wrong.

I don't get it. I honestly don't get it. You complain about "Americans" (who commonly turn out to be French, as in the case of Code Lyoko), but never once has anyone complained about the lack of originality of the Japanese artists who reused the same style to the point that it became recognizably 'Japanese'.

This actually looks pretty decent for an American show. Looks to be one of those first American cartoons to actually have brains of some sort.
EDIT:
After doing some checking, I found out that the people that do this are the same people that did the Robotech comic book.
I also found their studio site, and it looks like they're really into Japanese animation. Here's what they had to say about it:
Q: Manga is a Japanese art form. What right does Tavisha have to draw in that style?
A: Manga is more than a Japanese art form. Manga is a Japanese Art Movement, as legitimate as the Art Deco and Art Nouveau Art Movements. Just as Japanese artists have harvested and used European and American Art Nouveau and Art Deco to their advantage, Americans and Europeans are now doing the same with Japanese Manga. Yet, this is simply a general privilege, a right in cultural exchange every artist on Earth shares as a natural given. It is unalterable.
Let me speak now of Tavisha's personal right to contribute to the Manga Art Movement. Tavisha is an American of Japanese and German decent. Her father is Wolfgarth, her mother is Kubota. Both her parents worked away from the home, thus she was mostly raised by her nissei grandmother and her issei grandfather. There was a heavy leaning towards Japanese culture throughout her childhood years in the 1960's and 1970's. When she first started drawing in the "manga style" she was 5 years of age, and over the years she become convinced she should only draw in this style because it was part of her heritage.
Tavisha never believed that interest in anime and manga would ever grow beyond the Japanese-American community and she is still shocked to this day by its popularity - and even more shocked at her own popularity as a manga artist. Despite her growing fan base, there are those who, knowing nothing about her other than that she is an American, see a European last name and decide that this is enough to judge her work by. These same detractors would nod with approval if she had used her mother's maiden name of Kubota. Why do they do this? Simple idiocy requires a simple response: they are racist and prejudiced, in part, because they in their adolescence (or adolescent-mindedness), seek an intellectual elitism in the "secret" art of manga. How dare a European-American or other ethnic think it in their right to tell a Japanese-American they aren't allowed to contribute to their own heritage simply because of where they were born! Really! Tavisha doesn't break into Octoberfest in Alpine Village, California and jeer at the dancers because they were born in America. She doesn't roll her eyes at the chef at our favorite Sicilian restaurant, looking down her nose with a, "Humph! This chicken parmesan is obviously American!" Get over yourself racist manga fan. If ignorant hubris is your only privilege, fine. Just understand that that your dim view is a tired opinion, older than you, debated, recycled, and tossed out years before you were born. It is not manga law.
I understand that this style of offensive defense can seem rather arrogant but then when it comes to detractors of American-made manga, Tavisha and I sometimes find ourselves, on rare occasions, up against an often belligerent and fanatical sect who appear happy to treat you as a friend as long as you remain simply a fan of Japanese, Chinese, or Korean-made manga, but turn on you as if you've committed some kind of real heresy if you dare to be an American of any non-asian surname and desire to contribute to the Manga Art Movement.
Regardless, as I once stated in an interview with Anime Insider concerning ShutterBox: If it (ShutterBox) is indeed successful, then I hope it inspires many more hopeful creators living and raised outside of Japan to understand what makes manga, manga, (the pacing, the staging, the timing, the panel count, the masking, the toning, the consistency of character design, the quality of emotion, etc.), and that they in turn can contribute to this art movement. Japanese play American baseball and wear American Levi's. Americans eat Japanese sushi and sing Japanese karaoke. The manga art movement is simply another extension of the great Pacific cultural exchange. There is no reason why an American should not be allowed make their own "authentic" manga.
These guys seem pretty cool. I'm gonna have to check out this show.

"Lightened the situation"? I think you forgot what happened when he tied to catch Momo. Huge little hissy fit, destroyed a wall, and freaked out. I think he's going to probably befriend the Earth something-that-I-forgot-what-their-regions-are-called and the North Pole Water tribes, and he's going to try and learn water bending but before he learns a lot, he'll have to go up against Prince Zuko and the ther firebenders and (of course) he's gonna win, or narrowly escape and Katara will have to save his a$$ a couple of times at least.

I'm kind of "meh" with it right now, so I'll have to decide after I watch 4 and 5 if it's worthy of watching regularly. So far it isn't bad though, just not amazing.

Proved you wrong right there. It premiered Monday last week. It's Tuesday and the second episode was in a rerun today, so it's not canceled. And they have a new eppy Friday. "kiddiefied"? Is that even a word? And how old are you anyway? Which eppy did you see? The hour one or the half-hour one? "cause the first on is a little sillier than the second one so....
AND MOMO RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone who disagrees with that will feeel a wrath like no other. *sharpens swords and pulls on the cords so the chainsaws revv* Any takers?
I didn't mean a week, I meant "at some point in the near future". Duh. Anyway, I'm much older than you probably are if you like that show. "Eppy"? What are you, in kindergarten?
And, uh, your swords and chainsaws aren't allowed. There's a rule on this board that states "No weapons of any kind are permitted here, including swords, guns, rocket launchers, and bombs." ^_^

Hey now. Basing someone's perceived age on what animation they like is a bit biased. I know a 24 year old who likes, no loves Spongebob Squarepants. Yuck.*shudder* I know I'm older than you, but I still like Avatar. Though I do revel in my immaturity. :P

That's... really harsh. Oo; It really is.
And how old you are really doesn't play a role in what things you like, like Devyndrynn already stated.
And I think the forum administrators would be more worried about logic bombs, viruses, and the like, instead of role-playing weapons which do no harm to others. o_o; You need to chill.

First of all, Momo's a lemur. Second of all, why don't you go die and do the world a favor? I'm really pissed off right now, so DO NOT MESS WITH ME. And anything can be used as a weapon. You can die from me shoving a stack of Post-its down your throat. Kindergarten? Nah, I don't think so. 6th grade, but I still feel pretty young. Eppy is just because I didn't feel like typing out "episode". Yeah, I'm lazy, but get over it. If you don't like Avatar, get the f*** out of here. Okay, solving the weapon thing: *tosses revving chainsaws and swords over her shoulder and hears person scream"AAAH! MY ARM!"*
Woo-hoo! New episode! Yay! I can't believe they threw Momo in a bag. What's it gonna do, pee on you?

The fourth episode just aired and it was pretty good. Sokka finaly stops being sexist to girls and realized his *** got handed to him by a girl. It looks like Aang is trying to get Katare's attention and impress her but she just wants to leave before the fire benders come. This episode seems to have more comedy than the last three, like the painter gives up trying to draw Aang when girls keeps showing up and Sokka crossdressing.

I know ang is just like naruto in that the people expect great things of him and sokka is just like saske never brooding never plotting revenge always boasting about the great warrior he isnt and katara is just like sakura always trying to hook up with sokka.
Naruto and gang always on the run from the evil garo.
And their powers are erily similar being saske and sakura are clearly water elementals and naruto is multi-elemental.
The only real diffrence I see is that everybody knows about narutos hidden overwhelming power but nobody knows about angs.
But I like any show that integrates "magic" into fighting style.

I hope you're being sarcastic... if not, I beg to differ.
Sakura is after Sasuke yes, but Katara is Sokka's sister. Hooking up...Ew. :x
Naruto has never really run from anybody. Maybe been dragged away by teachers once or twice, but never run away.
Sasuke, if anything, uses fire jitsu. After all he does that 'breathing a gigantic fireball' thing quite a bit.
Sakura, I'd call earth based. I won't go into why. It's based on things that happen later in the manga.

Wow. I didn't know dumb people had opinions!
When you post next time, try using some punctuation and putting some thought into what you post.
OK, the hair style thing. I have an answer to that. You're thinking of the waterbenders, right? They all have the same hairstyle because it's like a tradition thing. They all have the same clothes and hair style. It's supposed to be that way.
Try thinking when you start flaming something, OK? What is it, amerime or anime? You said it was amerime in the beginning of your post, and anime in the end.
We can watch whatever we damn please. If you don't like it, deal with it. We're not making you watch it, so what's your problem?
And what makes you think just because we watch Avatar that we don't watch "real anime"? Huh? We can watch both!
Finally, 2 more things:

and
2. Go screw yourself.

Actually it seems to be one of the biggest continuing arguments on this forum (Right next to the morality/legality of fansubbing/downloading). :P
Other arguments pop up and then go away, the anime v. non-anime argument crosses threads, and pops up like a bad case of Space herpes *snicker* (Anyone who's seen the movie Ice Pirates should get that obscure reference. ;) )

I have a question here regarding Earthbending.
OK, so does anyone know what rocks are made out of? Sand.
And what's sand made out of? Silicon.
OK, so if silicon's in our body, so shouldn't Earthbenders technically be able to like throw people across the room or levitate or something? Just scientific curiousity. And what about iron? I dunno what it is, but I think it's Earth. And that's also in our body. Not much((seriously, trace amount)), but it's in there.
And new question, this time for Airbenders.
OK, so all the crap in the air includes this stuff: Nitrogen, oxygen, argon, CO2((whatever the hell that is)), helium, neon, kypton((no, not the planet that Superman came from)), xenon, radium, and water vapor. ((my science teacher is very imformative)) So shouldn't Airbenders be able to control things that has any of those elements in them?

I'm getting the feeling there won't be to sciency a logic behind the bending skills. I mean look at the fire coming outta nowhere and before somone thinks to compare living beings to fire, air and water are often the same thing in diffrent states so a water bender should be able to bend water vapour and steam, and were oxygen in its many forms bendable by air benders that would include things like water and rust.

Well, actually, they do explain the fire thing in one episode when Zuko spazzes out because he has to learn "the basics". And remember that...what was it called? That match thing between him and Commander Zhou? Oh! An Agni Kai! "Break his route!" or something was what his uncle said. Based on that fight, I think that the firebenders get the fire from the core of the earth, like the heat and stuff, and sort of mix it with their enegy to create...FIYA!!! So...that's kinda logical.
^ you can be the periodic table alchemist if you'd like Well, that's basically because we're studying the periodic table of elements in Science class. Along with atoms and stuff like that.
Technicaly, we're 70%(?) water, so waterbenders ought to be able to throw people around easily, and considering the amount of air in our bodies, airbenders should be able to, too. Then, there can be a lot of water vapor in the air (depending on where you are/the weather), so waterbenders should also be able to control the air to a limited exstent. And if firebenders use anything other than just magic to control fire, that'd open a whole new avenue. And it goes on from there.

Water can be extremely hard.
Water jets are used to cut many hard things such as stone.
A water bender could posses strength and jumping height and perhaps some level of enhanced healing.
Two warriors limblost in epic battles but replaced by ones created of there element water and stone enter battle.
They hit and dodge one anothers limbs the water breaking on the seemingly impervious stone both tire and boths powers dwindle the water bender expending cuntinued effort to reform his limbs the earth to move his.
The earth bender notices the smallest wearing in his hardend arms and reforms to reinforce it the next clash and now they've both noticed a greater wearing to them.
The earth bender grows concerned has his oppentent been holding back or has he caught a second wind it apears not but clearly somthing has changed.
The water bender knows why. He can feel the tiny shards of hardend rock in the water and with each continued swipe they grow larger and more numerous.
The earth bend knows not how but that he is beat and tunnels away leaving the water bender a hollow victory.

Wow. Good logic. And considering that whole 70% water thing((I thought it was 75%, but oh well)), since water is a compound((my science teacher will be so proud that I remembered that, lol)), it concists of 2 hydrogens and an oxygen. So since oxygen is in water and air, shouldn't water benders be able to control air, too? And shouldn't airbenders be able to control water? And what about polluted water? depending on what's polluting the water, shouldn't the earthbenders be able to control water? And not to mention polluted air. Once again, depending on what's polluting it, shouldn't earthbendes be able to control the air? And I have no idea what's in fire, but I know that oxygen's in it, so shouldn't firebenders be able to control air, and airbenders fire? Beat that logic.
God, I love saying that.

Just got done watching the first episode(I downloaded it, sue me) and I must say I was very surprised. I loved the first episode so I'll continue to watch. It was actually original, not cliche super hero or silly comedy stuff like most American shows. I do like the comedy, some can be kinda childish but that girls brother was pretty funny I thought.
I havn't seen such a great American cartoon with a plot like this in a long time since ExoSquad & Beast Wars.
I just hope the show won't become very filler based, but it doesn't seem like it.

Wow, you violent people.
I went to my Uncle's house last night and I was watching Dragon Ball GT on his new bigsceen TV and I was like "This is the kind of show you watch on a big screen. Lots of bomb-ey stuff." It looked so much cooler.
I stayed up last night and I was watching like adult swim and stuff(for like the 3rd time in my life. I either fall asleep by then or am watching SNL or the Comedy Channel). I saw Inuyasha which I have never seen in my life and the 15-20 minutes of what I saw of it, I thought it was great. OK, a little off-topic here, but who cares. 2 things: 1. Is Shippo a boy or a girl(really hope it's a boy, otherwise-Ew!) and 2. What time and what days does it come on? Thanks.
I can't believe that they're not having a new ep of Avatar on Friday! Of course, now my friend can finally catch up, she called me on Friday in the last 20 seconds of Avatar and I was like "Why aren't you watching?" and she was "Oh my god! It's on?!" Then it ended and I'm "Haha, you just missed it.". So people who are in dire need of a watch can catch up with the 2 hour showing of the 4 eps of Avatar.

Lets say if you were the creator of Avatar the last Airbender how would you get your show to be favored by more people and what other adjustments would you give Avatar the Airbender to make it a top notch show like the animes Fullmetal Alchemist, Samurai X, Inuyasha, and so much more great anime titles???
The only thing I can think of right now is to probably advertise more like when the show first came out. I would try to get my show in more magazines so people could check out my show to see if they like it or not. Not only would that help boost up the company's tv ratings but the show itself. I would try to get Avatar the airbender in magazines like New Type USA and Beckett anime even though its an American anime, but it should still get some recognition in their magazine because it does have the word anime in American anime. I'm not trying to say Avatar the airbender sucks are anything its really a great show to watch. Avatar is one of my favorite shows out there its in my top 5 list of animes even if its an American production.Thats basically what I would do if I was the creator of Avatar the last airbender

I personally think it's not that great.
I do the same thing with Japanese anime so don't get mad at me.
I don't hate Airbender for being American, I just hate it for it's poor quality
1. The animation is just crap. It's choppy most of the times, and when ever theres fast movement, the animation becomes 5 FPS
2. THe voice acting is just terrible. The childish-like sound effects, and the VA's just sound mono-toned.
3. It wasn't really creative background wise. It reminds me a whole lot of Golden Sun and Naruto(Sasuke)
I'm just not impressed with it. I'm trying to watch it every friday, to get into it. It's strange. I'm just not getting "in" to it. Even though this is a new innovation, it just doesn't cut it.
I'm going to give it a 5/10. Any one who says that I Shouldn't be posting in this topic is an idiot. This topic is supposed to discuss your opinions on Airbender.

They're called anime conventions, not festivals. Also, for the hundredth time, Avatar is not anime, so why would it be at a con? Go ahead and ask where the Avatar panel or screening is; the staff will either go "Huh? What's Avatar?" or go "That's an American show that tries to look like anime but it isn't, so WE DON'T HAVE IT." Get it through your head that the show is in no way Japanese, thus, it is NOT anime.

It's just a show that takes ideas from other hit shows and adding it in. I see a huge Resemblanse to Naruto when ever i "try" to watch it.
Avatar the last Airbender doesn't take other ideas from other shows. It has unique things and ideas that I haven't seen in other shows IF YOU EXACTLY TOOK THE TIME TO WATCH THE SHOW YOU WOULD KNOW.

Well, he's young, and stuff. I give him the benifet of the doubt.^^;
Don't worry your brother is doing a good deed by watching Avatar the last Airbender. It's a really great show to watch.

You don't need to use caps all the time. There's something called a "bold" option that you can express your feelings and opinions 'without' using Capslock. Atleast try to make yourself look more mature than you really are.
And I have taken time to watch it. I'm just sick of it.

For your info the bold doesn't work on my computer all of the time plus I can do whatever I want so I don't need any advetise from the likes of you.

Is Avatar the last Airbender in Japan and is it popular or doing well just like in the United States???

The bold options works on every computer. It is a HTML preset that you can choose to put a phrase in, and poof.
When you reply, not in quick reply, there is a "B" button. And if you are in guided mode, a pop-up appears and allows you to type in it.
I'm not advertising. I'm just telling you the options you can choose from to modify and make your posts look alittle bit more "Grown-up" if I might say.

To the pots and the kettles... I am finding your shades rather disturbing as well. Perhaps you should inspect yourself before pointing out each other's problems, yes?
And Avatar never reminded me of Naruto. Where are your comparisons coming from?

Are you sure you don't work for Nickelodeon, sicklelee?

I saw most of the episodes, & I thought they did a great job. Of all the American animated series that try to be like Japanese animation, this is the best one. It had an interesting, arc-type story, & it was fun to watch.

After watching more episodes, I think its a pretty decent show. Whenever I see it on, I don't mind watching if I'm not busy and do enjoy it at points. I do miss some episodes so sometimes I'm a bit confused but I still get it. I do hope Nick airs all the episodes one day once they've completed the first season, if they haven't already done so.

The first season is still going there only up to the 12th episode the thirdteenth episode is this Friday.
Ya on the commercial they had Avatar the last Airbender under the marathon section so I guess they will show all of the episodes again. Just check the Nick schedule.

You're just pissy 'cause you think sicklee's got a job.
Why can't you people either say something nice, or bugger off? Really why come into a topic for the sole reason of spouting hate over the topic itself.
It's not like it's not clearly labelled. If you don't like it, don't enter. :$%&#!:

Nah I'm pissy because he won't stop bumping this topic that people have clearly showed a lack of interest in.

Because it has no place. If he learns this, then maybe he'll delete it.
That and a combination of this guy's posts are annoying me and I have nothing better to do at the time.
It's not like it's not clearly labelled. If you don't like it, don't enter. :$%&#!:

At other message boards I frequent, threads that are repeatedly bumped by their starter are closed. I say leave it open for now and let it sink and if he does it again, then close it. There's obviously no interest in this show here. The only reason this thread has gone on for so long is you keep selling it over and over again, and of course due to the initial interest in an "American anime."

Bah. the other shows I like have nothing to do with my defense of this one. I don't try to convince people that a show sucks just because I don't like it.
And I'm top heavy, not bottom heavy (ie.-I am a woman)
