Yes. GitS: Solid State Society..... Nice title.
Interesting. That alone could say S.A.C is a prequel to the first GITS film.
If SAC is a prequel to the first film then how could Togusa be a rookie in the first film and then be a veteran in SAC?
oh wait my mistake the Manga takes place befor the show, so it's like a continuation.
The manga, the movie and the series are alternate universes.

GITS SAC 2nd Gig Volume 4 LE comes with three figures, Batou, Jameson type body and a maid android.
The first season of SAC was set in the year 2030 and the first Ghost in the Shell film was set in 2029 so SAC is set after the movie but in an alternate universe.
I have heard a rumor that Bandai Visual have announced that SAC Solid State Society will be a 100 minute film. To get the real answer of what form SAC SSS will take, all SAC fans will have to wait for the Tokyo International Anime Fair.

If its anything like Innocence then sorry to say I wouldn't be as thrilled. While Innocence wasn't bad for a movie, it wasn't good enough to hold the Ghost In The Shell name like the first movie, and seasons 1 & 2 do.
But who knows I would still check it out if it was movie (I'd be a fool if I didn't). Infact it would be amazing to see a another GitS movie with Motoko actually in it. However I'd still prefer another series personally, I mean as smart/gritty/beautiful/sensitive/mature as the show is there is no way they could water it down.

Me personally, would love to see SAC SSS be a full length TV season with more episodes that deal with the character's pasts and the episodes that deal with the season's main plot.
My reasoning for the rumor of Bandai Visual saying that it will be a 100 minute film is that Funianimation (I think that is its title) who makes Full Metal Alchemist have done a TV series with two seasons then they did a movie that followed on where the second season left off, so maybe the people involved with SAC are trying to do the same thing.

I disagree, Innocence was a superb film. The only real flaw of it, may be the constant quoting which can get a tad annoying if you're trying to catch up with the subtitles while also trying to comprehend the big concept behind the film.
It was a bit out of character for Bateau, who normally isn't that philosophical.
But that's a minor quibble, and on the whole Innocence more then holds up.
Whatever it may be, a continuation to the series or a movie, I'm really looking forward to it so long as Oshii is involved with it.

We will have to wait until the SAC SSS movie is over to see if Production IG will do a complete third season of SAC.
From Anime News Network website
The production announcement does not specifically state release format, or date. The movie is being produced in Hi-Vision, a format used by Japanese broadcast networks to support wide-screen televisions. The same production team, including main staff, will be carried over from the TV series. The budget, while not specified, is said to be higher in order to achieve a cinematic level of production.
The 100-minute (tentative running time) movie takes place in 2034, two years after the refugee riot incident. A significantly larger Section 9, with over 20 new officers, investigates terrorist actions related to a wizard-like hacker “Kugutsu Mawashi.”
(Kugutsu Mawashi translated into English is roughly "Puppet Master." Kugutsu Mawashi is not the same as the "Puppet Master" from the first Ghost in the Shell Movie. In Japanese, the "Puppet Master" from the first movie was called "Ningyo Tsukai" which can also translated into "Puppet Master.")

The more I hear (or read) about this the more my blood boils in in joy!
So more than likely there are going to be some new people in Section 9... That's good I guess however I still need to see more on the original team. I can't wait to see how this turns outs out and I also can't wait for the OST.

I wish it didn't focus on yet another hacker, but I'll give it a chance of course. You forgot to mention that in the original manga of GITS that the puppet master was referred to as the puppeteer.
I get the feeling that the English dub won't refer to him as puppet master, if anything for continuity reasons.

The entire "Laughing Man" agenda is a bit hard to understand, now that i bought the entire first volume of SAC i understand it.It is indeed a bit deep to understand.
I love how the United States is called "The American Empire" it shows it was translated right. It could have been called "The States" or such. The USA is shown as a enemy, especially in the 'Jungle Cruise' Episode.

Yeah the last few episodes are the best. The concept of the individual 11 shouldn't be understood after only 4 episodes and i'm sure you didn't understand the Laughing Man after only 4 episodes. The Laughing Man plot was more complex once you see all the episodes. But the 11 is an ongoing plot that they stick to until the end so don't expect a breakthough in the next few episodes. The series as whole is a lot more apealing the non-hardcore gits fans then the first season because the ending involves more large scale combat plus theres more character developement.

I never got the idea that the US was shown as an enemy, just an overbearing big brother thats slightly immoral. Not much different that how they view us now. They still have a mutual defense pact even in 2nd gig. All I really saw was some mistrust.

When I first saw the first 4 episodes I was a bit confused, but trust me once you see the other episodes it starts making sense more and more. Re-watch the episodes whenever possible because you will find new details that will put the puzzle together much better.

So far, what if you favorite episode(s) in SAC series? Mine would be ep. 10, because I liked it when they talked about Batou's past. I also liked ep. 15, because we get to know more about the Tachikomas (sort of), and it's sad that they were sent back to the lab.
In episode 11 (2nd Gig) there is a boy who makes paper cranes. The artwork plus the background music in that episode is just breathtaking. I have never seen anything like it in my life.
For anyone who has never watched anime, or who thinks that anime is "cutesy" or "just for teenagers" I would strongly suggest episode 14 (2nd gig) with the sniper playing poker. They will be in for a big suprise.

Everything you speak is dead on truth!!!! When I saw episode 11 I got chills up my spine from just the raw detail from it (I'm not only speaking of the art). It might sound weird but everytime I watch that episode I have to try so hard not to cry cause it is that powerful.

I also like how even though Motoko knew the boy was a "kid" she really didn't treat him like one until the last few moments in the episode. Watching S.A.C. on AS is like a love/hate thing with me cause while I would much rather view the show on DVD first I can't resist seeing the new episodes. Exactly my thoughts. I know this is a silly April Fool's joke but in all seriousness it is totally ANNOYING. The first couple of times it was funny but hell now I can't even really keep up with the plot and it takes away from the story. Like most cable channels Cartoon Network is suppost to handle their programming in a somewhat professional manner, and yet the air a bunch of noise over their anime block. And even though this is not the first time they have done something like this I think its a bit disrespectful to what little viewers they have that watch Adult Swim. Even as much as a b.s. channel as MTV is I can't even think of them doing anything like this during the airing of their crappy shows.
I'm going to give it another shot later tonight when it re-airs I hope the farting session is over by then.

It's tradition. It has been an agreement between [adult swim] and its fans that [as] will do something for April First. Vetran [as] fans already know that on this day the plot doesn't matter. The only thing that matter is what strange thing they did (this year the replacements and the farts).

Oh, I have a sense of humor, I just thought it was inappropriate to use in a new episode though.
I will give them the benefit of the doubt that at least they played it at it's regular time without any dubbed over farting. Though I did like the fart-version of FMA, it just didn't suite GITS at all.
Great episode, very emotional and superb animation and story. Seeing as they've covered most of all members of Section 9 with an individual episode, hopefully next week we can get back to the Individual 11 case.

Yow, episode 19 was great. I gotta' tell ya' it's killing me that only 7 episodes are left, I'm more then a little tempted to download the fansubs.
Did anyone catch the references to the first and second Ghost In The Shell manga?
Having read the first volume, the demise of a certain team member was of no surprise to me, but I still dug it overall. I'm left with more questions then answers now.
Was Kuze even at the dock? Were the refugees manipulated by Kuze, or by Goda' and his cronies? Did the Major purposely mislead her team and lead them into an ambush out of sympathy to Kuze?
It's getting really good.
Motoko2030
April 9th, 2006, 01:02 PM
This episode was one of the best, I did catch some of the references to the manga in episode 19.
I think Kuze was at another dock similar in design to the one that the Section 9 team infiltrated.
Kuze had left a transponder in the dock that they infiltrated to prevent them for stopping his plans. When the Major touched his conscious and saw an image of the dock, the transponder made her see an image of the wrong dock.
I don't think that the Major purposely mislead her team and lead them into an ambush, she didn't know that when she was trying to locate Kuze, the transponder misled her by sending a false image of Kuze in the abandoned dock when really, he was in another dock.
I am sure that there will be more references to the Shirow Ghost in the Shell manga books in the upcoming episodes.
I really like the new Proto character, does anyone know who does the English voice for Proto.

I have just recently bought the 3rd and 4th dvds of 2nd gig, and i was wondering about a few things, first about Kusanagi's run in with the Memory shop, and the story about her child hood, it's obviouse that she is the little girl explaned in the episode, but the mistery of the little boy is still unknown i've been curious to know who it was within context with the story. But after i watched the 16th episode, Another chance, about Kuze, would he be the little boy? It matches the little boy's description perfectly. Folding paper figures, in posesion of a full prostedic body. It all makes a little sence.
Also in the second episode on disk one Night Cruise, is he the one in Another Chance, smoking the bong? If it is then i have no reason to doubt that every episode so far has some connection between them, at first i figuard that episode was just a fillar. but now i believe that even with a short filler, it connects to the main story very well, and also, the episode about Saito, is just a filler but it ties in to adress one of section 9's member's past, and connection with section 9.
if this is true then i have more respect for SAC then i have before. the first series was good but too many fillers that seem unnessesary. 2nd gig is all connected, and it's my favorite so far.

The episode in the first series with the runaway rogue tank. When the scene came where they played that "Beauty is within us" song, I almost wept openly. Damn, I'm gonna go watch it again right after this post, I think. That is a very powerful, moving scene, and it's a defining characteristic of how anime can say things that normal film can't. How in the HELL would you go about faithfully reproducing that scene in a live action movie, I ask you?
But as to the guy that spoke about a filler episode tying in with the main storyline... If you'll notice, all the filler stories tie in somehow, even if only to explain a concept for something that comes along later in the series. That's the brilliance of GitS.
Thing is... I wasn't able to "get into" the second season of SAC as Iw as the first, for some reason. Dunno why, really. But I still loved it, and that last episode, oh, you lazy no-watching people in this thread really need to see it. The last episode made me cry. Seriously.

I've only seen a few episodes of GITS which were a few SAC episodes. I think I might get into this more. As long as adult swim doesn't remove it from their Saturday night line up. Curse them for removing good anime.

To a degree a very little bit of Pazu's background is shown in an episode of 2's GIG (the episode right before the Saito episode). I also read somewhere that he has past ties to the mafia or some sort of underworld organization. As for the other members I really hope we learn more about them in a third series. *Heres hoping*

Some news on the Solid State Society Movie...
Bandai Visual has announced that the 105 minute long Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society movie will premier on the SKYPerfecTV! satellite television network on September 1st then go on sale on Japanese DVD on November 24th at a retail price of 10,290 yen.
The Solid State Society OVA features theatrical quality animation produced at a cost of 360 million yen (roughly 3.14 million dollars).
So I'm guessing America will see it on DVD between January-April of next year. Crap I wanna see this soooooooooo bad! They better release a soundtrack as well...or atleast that's what I'm hoping for.

From Anime on DVD...
Bandai Entertainment @ Anime Expo (03:22 PM EDT): According to the call we just got, Bandai Entertainment has announced the acquisition of the live-action Cutie Honey movie, the Ghost in the Shell: SAC compilation movies and a series being called the (Great) Horror Family. The last one is apparently a 13 episode series and we're trying to figure out what it's Japanese name is.
Bandai Entertainment @ Anime Expo Follow-up (03:24 PM EDT): Bandai snuck something more into their showing by announcing the acquisition of Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society.
Hope this means we'll see three releases on the GitS front in the US... the compilation moved for the Laughing Man Case and the Individual Eleven Case as well as Solid State Society! I'm really looking forward to Solid State Society! I wonder what the odds are for a third season?
Man, why doesn't GitS have its own individual thread in the Series Specific Forum? This thing is like 40 pages long...

Here is a summary of what Solid State Society will be about
"A.D. 2034. It has been two years since Motoko Kusanagi left Section 9. Togusa is now the new leader of the team, that has considerably increased its appointed personnel. The expanded new Section 9 confronts a rash of complicated incidents, and investigations reveal that an ultra-wizard hacker named the Puppeteer is behind the entire series of events.
In the midst of all, Batou, who was stalking the case on a separate track, encounters Motoko. She goes away after saying, "Stay away from the Solid State Society." Batou is left with a doubt in his mind. Could Motoko be the the Puppeteer?
The series of intriguing incidents that Section 9 faces gradually link together almost artistically. Who is the Puppeteer? What will happen to Batou's relationship with Motoko? What is the full truth behind this carefully planned perfect crime? And what will the outcome be? Mysteries surround the Solid State Society... "

To me, Togusa seems like the LAST person who should be in charge of Section 9. He's a good detective, but he's such a little whinebag and doesn't seem very good at making the big decisions. Personally, I see Ishikawa as the logical person to take over in the absence of the Major. He's been with her the longest (back when they were calling Batou a rookie) and probably has the most experience. Plus he keeps a level head and he knows how to get things done. Although Batou seems to be Motoko's confidante and probably her closest companion in Section 9, even a good field leader, I really see Ishikawa as the 2nd in command behind Motoko and the next to take charge.
Plus we've sorta seen how miserable Batou is without the Major (in Innocence, which I know is not really connected to the tv series). I kinda feel like in the SAC universe, if the Major left Batou would be quick to follow her and not stick with Section 9. His loyalty always seems to be with Motoko... or is that love?

For those of you wondering why Motoko left Section 9, you should read the manga as it handles that side of the story (unless you've already read it). However, that'd only be the case if the series follows the manga closely.
Spoilers concerning Motoko's status after leaving section 9:
This has probably more to do with the two movies than the series, but Motoko, having integrated the Pupeteer (yes, the super hacker of the new series) into her system, has become One with the cyber world. You will remember how she gazes down into the city at the end of the first film and her ending conversation with Batou in the second one. What ensues, I do not knows...

Yeah, and he got rid of his silly mullet too!!! Batou is lookin' good. I agree about Motoko, though... as much as I like Batou, the idea of Togusa not only leading Section 9 but also carrying the movie just doesn't grab me. Also, what was everyone's opinion of the animation? I thought I heard SSS was supposed to have theatrical-quality animation because the budget was so huge, but from the preview, this looks about the same as the tv series' animation. Which isn't a bad thing. I just don't know that I'd say it's on par with something like what we saw in Innocence. Then again, it's a 2 1/2 minute trailer, so it's probably too early to judge.

Hmm...too early to tell really, if this is going to look like a big budget theatrical anime. It does kind of look like the TV series..but I'd like to see it all for myself, then judge it.
As long as they don't nix Batou all together, then I'll be a happy camper!

I think Batou looks sharp without the ponytail. It's Motoko's new hairstyle (if that's Motoko with the longer purple hair) that I don't like. She needs to keep her short-in-back, long-on-the-sides look, IMO.

I picked up the Special Edition Volume 7 last Wednesday. The artwork on the box set is outstanding, I like that OST 3 was included as well as the Motoko B figure. The music tracks on OST 3 are some of the best I have heard.

I agree. I simply adored the music though. Yoko Kanno was as phenomenal as ever. I loved the opening, I'm going to download it soon.
The best scene was with Togasa and his daughter, I was on the edge of my seat. Also, Sci-fi had too many damn commercials. They made a OAV length 'movie' last from 11 PM to 1 PM. That pissed me off immensly.

I didn't think the commercial placement was that bad. I mean, it didn't seem to me like they were going to commercial every 5 minutes or breaking the flow of the story at moments when it couldn't pause (for example, it's not like they broke to commercial right in the middle of the dramatic scene with Togusa and his daughter that the poster above mentioned). The commercial breaks were a bit long, but that was ok as it gave me time to read my Otaku USA or grab a snack. What bugged me though was that they stretched the screen. Seemed like they took a letterbox aspect and stretched and mooshed it to fill standard tv-size screens, and the whole picture looked grainy and gave me a headache. I'd already seen SSS at Anime Boston, so I was relieved I already knew what was going on since I had a hard time looking at the screen now and then. But otherwise, I thought Sci-Fi's Animondays got off to a good start with SSS. Motoko and Batou rock!!

I diddn't think there were too many commercial breaks if thats what you mean, it seemed about the same as Adult Swim with around 15 minute commercial breaks. Which is much better than Toonami.
However the commercials were long, seemed at least 5 minutes of commercials.

Anime Unleashed on Tech TV had ridiculous commercial breaks, cutting to commercial mid-scene every 5 minutes on the dot practically. Compared to that, Sci-Fi did it just right!

I didn't think they would edit anything seeing as it would show late but they did. Funimation channel also has the worse but instead of showing different commercials they just ***** there products every single commercial and every 5 minutes. Make one commercial and then you have about 8 minutes or more to put commercial on after the show is done.

Right around the Buu saga in DBZ, Toonami really started jacking the commercials up. It was five minute intervals... that was painful. Maybe since I was really into the GitS movie, the commecial breaks seemed to last longer than they actually did.
