I was watching t.v today and saw an anime movie coming to nick. What is this world coming to?!?!?!?!?!?!

That doesn't surprise me. The fact of the matter is, Nickelodeon will always bring programming aimed at kids whether it's American made or it's an anime. They have brought so many kid oriented shows already. If we get to see more anime in this network, maybe it's a sign anime really is becoming alot more noticable ne? ^_^

There's plenty of great anime that are too "kiddy" that CN, or other major networks will never even touch with a 100 meter pole.

To be honest, i'm surprised Hamtaro was aired on CN... seems more like a Nickeloden show to me. It's a fun series. :D

I, for one, am glad that nickelodeon is doing this. A little snow fair Sugar would go great on that channel, imo. :D

BTW, what movie are they getting that made ya post this? Curious.

Oh **** no, knowing Nickelodeon they'll butcher it! Wait... are you talking about the show with the "air rider" or something? That is not anime. BTW, have you people ever heard of punctuation? AN is turning into Adult Swim.com... <_<

I know what movie you are talking about and I will inform you that it is not anime. No worry people, it's one of those, American - made, wanabe anime cartoon movies. No worries.

I can't remember what it was called. But it had something to do with some special magic power that only this one individual can do in the present age. But who cares right?

I totally agree, something that has cute animals interacting in them is just SO Nickelodeon. Hamtaro was a great example of a series shown on the wrong network. I agree that Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar would be a great anime series to air on Nickelodeon. One of these days if the demend of anime is there, it just might happen. The same goes for any series of all ages like Kimba: The White Lion, Catnapped, Dog of Flanders, etc, etc.

Kimba: The White Lion

Ya know...The Lion King used to be one of my favorite movies. When I found out about all the disturbing similarities between that and the old show, Kimba, it quickly shot to the bottom of my DVD pile and off my favorite movies list. It really drags to find out your one time favorite movie is quite possibly a plagiarism of an older work. One of these days, I have to watch Kimba The White Lion, just to see what the original source was like.

I wish that anime was on more networks...but knowing many networks they would butcher it and probably give anime a bad name. Sometimes on cable they'll show good anime movies though. One time on HBO they had Akira and Metropolis. I wish they'd do something like that again.

One thing about pseudo-anime: some of it is entertianing, but the rest will make anime fans cringe. And I wish they still aired Invader Zim.

It's called Avatar and it's not anime.

I've been somewhat looking forward to the show since it seems like it may be different from the run-of-the-mill bad comedy shows Nickelodeon produces.

I totaly agree and can't figure out why they stoped showing that... It wasn't that offensive... well most of it anyway.

Oh and as for Nick and CN, in the daytime those channels are relativley, no scratch that, really stupid. All though CN plays some good ones on saturdays like Rave Master I thought was good. Where I am it's on at 7 where most good shows start at midnight. Does anyone watch Rave Master or read the books or am I the only one?

Ravemaster never really looked interesting to me.

I remember long ago when Nick actually 'aired' anime. Abelt, it was mostly Saban-dubbed-and-edited material, but still, that's where he threw his shows to, before Fox came along in the early/mid 1990s with their kids' block. Noozles, Maple-Town, Mysterious Cities of Gold (French / Japanese co-produced), Maya the Bee? Those should bring back memories.

I never did catch the promo for this "Avatar" people are speaking of here. However, it being 'psuedo-anime' doesn't suprise me. Look at all the other stuff that Kids WB / CN, Disney (through their JETIX block) and now Nick are trying to bring in. You all know the shows already, so I won't run through a list, but anime's niche popularity is rubbing off on American producers.

Knowing how much Nick reruns stuff to death, I'm sure one day I'll catch a glimpse of Avatar.

Edit: To answer your question. Rave Master never really piqued my interest. There's better action/adventure anime out there.

Yuffie
February 5th, 2005, 05:19 PM
Yes Rave Master looks kindof dumb if you only watch like 5 minutes of it. I suggest reading the books then if it looks intresting watch the show. By the way who know's when this Avatar show plays or when it starts? I'd like to check it out even though more than likely it will suck...

I don't watch TV at all anymore... Just anime on DVD.

Personally I am hate psuedo-anime because it's wannabe anime... made by Americans who are trying to appeal to the American public. All they are looking for is money, so they put out something without story or character development: just flashy animation.

Come to think of it all cartoons have slumped down to this within the past couple of years. American cartoons have no substance whatsoever. And the most frustrating thing is that the kids today eat this garbage just like candy.

This is why I am into anime because it's not what defines cartoons today (because they're not 'toons).

I must give Nickelodeon some credit though because they still know how to make cartoons with more of a point then Cartoon Network. They seem to be least conforming to the American public, however if they did come out with an anime clone they too may conforming... *sigh* Kids just don't know SUBSTANCE!

Oh My God! The world will end! How dare they show anime when they'll just butcher it? Bastards...>_>

Now that I got that out of my system, is this the show where some kid changes in to a dragon or comes from a dragon family? I remember reading about it. It didn't seem animeish to me outside of the fact that it has an Asian lead.

Look, the anime style is becoming more popular nowadays so of course more companies will try to make their own versions. We don't have to like it but it's here.

At least no one's said anything asnine about anime being more popular than Nickelodeon cartoons, when, if you look at the actual Saturday Morning Nielsen ratings among the 6-11 demographic (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=1307) (the demographic the advertisers care about on those channels at that time of day on Saturday), Nickelodeon reigns supreme. On January 22nd, Spongebob Squarepants beat One Piece by a margin of 6-to-1.

About Belle and Sebastien, I wrote a little about it once in this blog entry (http://kiyone.blogspot.com/2004_09_05_kiyone_archive.html#109487213 552085640):

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v30/kiyone/belleseb.jpg

...the cartoon Belle and Sebastian, about a boy in the Pyrenees searching for his mother with the help of a huge white dog, which was actually an English re-dub of Belle et Sebastien (http://honeyonly54.free.fr/DA/belleetsebastien.htm) from French-language public TV, which, in turn, was a localized version of the Japanese anime series Meiken Jolie (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=1215), which was an animated retelling of the 1960s French Belle et Sebastien TV series (http://www.thechestnut.com/belle.htm), based on the series of books from French actress and writer Cécile Aubry (http://imdb.com/name/nm0041438/). Since the cartoon was about France, it was another cartoon that I didn't realize was actually Japanese.

Heh, maybe Nick is going back to the good old days, when they actually aired GOOD children's programing and foriegn animation. Like Danger Mouse and that weird french cartoon with the temples and gold and stuff.

Edit - huh, looks like that "weird french cartoon" was actually Japanese as well. I'll be damned.

^ Danger Mouse!! Yes! And do you remember the Bananaman episodes they used to air along with some DangerMouse episodes? I used to love those. I seem to remember another set of short cartoons called Mighty Heroes, too.

The weird French cartoon = Mysterious Cities of Gold. I was wrong on my earlier estimate; it didn't air until 1986. Still, I love that series (Golden Condor and all) and have found very few people who've heard of it.

OH MY GOD, for the longest time (years!) I tried to figure out what "that show with the little fairy people and the racoon" was, and I thought it was "The Littles," but everytime I looked that up the show title I found this thing that was not at ALL what I was remembering. And browsing through this thread I saw someone mention "Little Bits" and I said "I think that's it!" and rushed off to check it out. And sure enough, that's the show I was remembering, and it was anime as well.

Geez. Looks like half the stuff I watched as a kid was anime and I never knew. Also, since most of what I watched was on Nick, that means all the surprise of "omg anime on nick!!1one" is a bit misplaced as well

I have to say, from what I've seen, it looks interesting.
It's set to air at 8:00pm on Fridays, so it'll probably be more mature than the usual Nickelodeon stuff. I can't really tell how the animation is, but I'm hoping it'll be igh quality. There also looks to be some Miyazakian influence to it.

I really enjoyed the pilot episode. I expected the majority of the elements of the show to be annoying and kiddy, but I was thankfully mistaken. The sound effects could have been better, though.

There will atleast be 10 more shows hopefully more. But as i said before Nick has a away with canceling great shows... Hope full if nick cancels it the show will go to cartoonnet work cuase the people who make it work for an indapendint cartoon place meening they sell cartoons as they wish. Also heres a cool fact about the show the directore and producer of this show also directed and produced hit shows like Family Guy and King of The Hill.

Starwind Amada
February 27th, 2005, 05:49 AM
The idiots at Crapelodeon will probably cancel the show because it's "too complex for little kids" and "it looks like one of those Japanese porno cartoons and we don't want little kids watching that stuff". Plus, what better way to bring in the ratings by replacing it with a 20th airing of Rugrats?

Nickelodeon sucks. All of their shows are mindless ********. Spongebob Squarepants? Yeah, like I wanna watch a cartoon about a talking sponge living in the ocean. Crap. Drake & Josh? Two stupid fags who have nothing better to do than play crappy songs on their guitars and hit on ugly girls. Rugrats? Garbage about talking babies that go on "adventures" that's been milked all that it can be, yet they still aire 20 episodes a day (and they probably don't think THAT'S enough). Cartoon Network is SOOOOOOO much better. At least their shows (most of them) have decent plots and aren't kiddie dribble. I don't consider CN a "kids network" anymore, but a "teens network", due to the fact that they show violence (Toonami and other shows) and light cursing (Adult Swim).

If I ever see a REAL anime on Nickelodeon, I will bomb the Nick HQ in Orlando, FL because they will butcher the show worse than 4Kids does.

BTW, 10 episodes isn't really short. There are anime series (OVAs) that are 3
episodes long (like Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz and Gunsmith Cats). Now THAT'S short.

That's my rant for the day.

Air
February 27th, 2005, 12:07 PM
Nice rant. You got nothing on Foamy though.

Well, anyway, a series season for me would be AT LEAST 20-24 episodes. And that's still not many episodes. My mom and I went through 3 seasons of Sienfeld on DVD in about 2 weeks.

I don't think they can sell Avatar to CN cuz it says "Nickelodeon's" thing at the top of evey beginning of each episode. Like they have "Disney's" Kim Possible. But they could probably do some tech thing to get rid of it, i suppose. But I don't think they will. It's pretty high promoted on Nick.

The only shows I really like on Nick is (sometimes) Drake and Josh, Avatar, and-wait, that's it. I only watch Nickelodeon now for hopes of seeing any of those 2 on. otherwise, I mostly watch CN. I will watch Disney channel occasionally if nothing good is on, like Mucha Lucha(shudders) or sumthin'. otherwise, CN. I can't stand TV nowadays. All you have is some mindless reality shows and some stupid thing like American Idol. then you have those pointless cartoons and stupid overly-dramatic shows like 7th Heaven and junk like that. Only the anime and some very rare cartoons and shows are good, except all the decent shows on Nick get cancelled. Like Invader Zim. That was my favorite show when it was on, then it just disappeared. I should really buy the DVDs, they're worth it, but I'm broke, and my parents would think the show absurd. All the good shows get cancelled after a while, like Sailor Moon. they hade shows and movies for it and now they're showing The Land Before Time 6 million n Cartoon Theatre instead of the weekly Sailor moon movie. WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO?!?!!?!?!!?!

Yeah, this movie is something I've been waiting to come out for years! It's been on the radar for the last 2 years, and each thanksgiving since they've been showing teaser's and stuff. It's called Skyland, and there is a movie and then a serries to premier after it, this sat. night. It's completely cell animated. But not anime, think it's made in France. lol

As for Avatar, I watch it every day. It's def not anime, but it's inspired from it. More Chinese based ideas, though. Like most anime it starts out all fluffy and cute, kinda annoying, then gets real serious, really fast.

Nick used to be a pretty great channel. For those of us that grew up watching it in the early 90's there was Pete and Pete, The first season of All that, Ah! Real monsters. C'mon people! Nick ain't as bad as you'd think, it's the kids these days they have to cater to. Most are dumb, sugar eating idiots that can't take a real plot because it's hard to follow.

And Invader Zim is still on nick, but I get like 4 different nick sub-channels, so it's on one of those. They just don't make new epps. of it since their contract on it was up and the creator didn't want to continue because of differences he had with Nick.

Nothing new but finally...Nickelodeon gets a cartoon from Japan! I think it's a good idea. I remember when there was not a single trace of anime on Cartoon Network. Let it go, the kids should start to recognize anime early in life and differentiate it from other animations.
